Nov 2024: I’ve just this minute finished a Sunday roast. Crikey! Perfectly cooked, fresh and really tasty. The best roast dinner I’ve had - and that includes the Chequers at Fingest.

We had a wonderful welcome in this fantastic dog friendly village pub and decided to try out their Sunday lunch the following day. Well, it was absolutely delicious, in fact the best pub Sunday lunch my wife and I have ever had . Roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. I have to say it was all cooked to perfection and presented so well. The staff were genuinely helpful, polite and well, just so lovely. I hope that this pub never changes in terms of its ambiance, character, characters and welcoming qualities. I cannot recommend this place enough…..my wife would be happy to travel from South Wales just to experience the Sunday lunch again!

Absolutely lovely place and is worth the stoll from buckland . (The walk is absolutely beautiful with fresh eggs available at the end of people's gardens ) We came for a roast dinner after having drinks the day before and seeing other people's food ...we had to make the walk again ... and it was absolutely beautiful I couldn't fault a single thing on my plate 😍 the setting is very very vintage and quaint with some lovely features in and around the garden . Me and my partner absolutely loved the beer garden and the beautiful view and settings out back . What an absolute sneaky gem 💎 a beautiful addition to Devon ❤️ thanks for having us guys

We love coming here to have food! It’s about ten minutes drive from our house in Newton Abbot and the service is always prompt and friendly. Even if it wasn’t, the food is amazing! Without fail, ever since I had it the first time a year or two ago, I ALWAYS have the Asian chicken burger! It is the BEST CHICKEN BURGER in the UNIVERSE. I never have the same meal anywhere but here, because it is so good! We always mix it up with starters and desserts, and my partner loves the dishes, whichever he chooses. Due to some dietary restrictions, today I asked if I could have the burger without the bun and with a side salad instead of the fries, and they obliged - still amazing :-) There’s always a good selection of booze available, really nice gin and tonics served here too! Camden Stout also lush. If only we could walk here, we’d be over the moon! Fab local pub, great service, great restaurant! CHEF HAS MAD SKILLS.

Food was ok. The staff were really good. With dogs laying all over the place, it was no wonder that the smell when you walk in was awful. Even when we wanted to walk by, a dog owner thought it was ok for us to step over the dog rather than move it. And then with dog poop all over the garden, it seems to be yet another place where dogs rule. So, I wouldn't eat there again. And I certainly wouldn't bring children. The garden is for dogs and the pub is for dogs.

A very warm welcome with menus delivered, explain and drinks provided promptly. The lighting in the pub is very low but once you are accustomed to the light levels it is a pleasant place to be. Be careful entering on a bright sunny day! The food across the three different dishes we had was excellent. However, it took the better part of an hour for it to arrive. Good thing it was worth waiting for! Will certainly return hoping the excellent meal is delivered in a more timely manner next time.

Fantastic Sunday roast. Good welcome. Cosy and comfortable seating. Great waiter and wine list. I didn't like the bar wine choice, but there was a much better choice on the wine list. We both had a Sunday roast...I had the chicken which was moist and perfectly cooked. My husband had the beef which was perfectly cooked and there was plenty of it. The potatoes were lovely and crispy and there were plenty of vegetables and a jug of gravy. The plates were hot. We shared a chocolate dessert, which wasn't too sugary and had plenty dark chocolate taste. Altogether, one of the best roasts we've had apart from mine at home.

This is a cosy pub tucked away in a pretty village location near to where my son and I were staying. We really enjoyed our evening. We were greeted warmly and taken to a nice table which was tucked away and peaceful. I had baked Camenbert to start with and then cod and prawn mornay afterwards. We used to live locally and visited often. We decided to try it again and glad we did. We had the most amazing vegetarian burger and chips. I hope it stays on the menu as it really was so good. The people on the next table were raving about their food too, so it's safe to say the general quality is good. The pub was quiet ( we ate mid week lunch time) . The bar staff/ landlords were pleasant and helpful. It's an old fashioned pub with open fires, hunting scenes, cosy nooks so it has a traditional vibe if that's what you are after. Accessibility wise there is plenty of parking just up the road in the car park, there are a few steps to get into the building. Definitely worth a visit.

Today's lesson was not to order extra roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy until you've seen the initial portions! Lovely dog friendly old village pub, with parking a few mins walk up the hill. The food was good, especially the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, although we were defeated by the volume of food we ordered, as the portions are generous. Staff were very accommodating as we wanted to be as far away from other dogs as possible as our guy is a bit mouthy at times. I also liked that rather than a separate kids menu they do kids portions of everything on the menu. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

More places need to be like this. I booked, based on reviews and I’m so glad that I did. A traditional pub, with period features and so tastefully furnished. The tables are all a sensible size for all of the delicious food that was laid out on it for our Sunday roast. They could easily get more tables in but this would change and ruin the ambiance that they’ve created. We were extremely well looked after by every member of staff that came to our table. Basically, if you’re local to this place, book to eat here. It’s worth the drive to the twee village and you really won’t be disappointed.

Visited after receiving a voucher from my parents, not normally somewhere we would have thought of going to. Car park is available, but was quite full. There would be a few spaces on the road if needed. Inn is very old looking, but had very friendly greeting and the whole place was very clean and well presented. Decided against a starter, simply because it was my wife's birthday the following day. So dessert was calling... For main she chose the salmon and prawn linguine with lobster bisque. Which was packed with fish and apparently delicious. I chose hake and crayfish mournay which came with fries and side salad. This was one of several gluten free options available. Again, plenty of fish and packed with flavour. Whilst eating, the staff were attentive but not intrusive. Were given the dessert menu and noticed nothing was marked as gluten free. Options were sticky toffee pudding, Clementine possett and Chocolate Brownie with marmalade ice cream. As I'd be happy with any of those, waited until ordering to find which I could have gluten free. Imagine my amazement when told they were ALL gluten free. I had the sticky toffee pudding, just because I haven't had the chance in years. My wife chose the brownie, but I am the only one with gluten intolerance. Again both delicious and well presented. Wouldn't have thought have coming before... but will definitely be back

This pub is a little gem hidden off the beaten track in a village near Teignmouth. It’s full of history, built originally in the 1600s, wonky walls, oak beams and roaring log fires add to the charm. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and we were served quickly. We went straight into the mains with rump steak for my husband and fish and chips for me, followed by St Clements posset with shortbread - absolutely delicious. Good range of beers and very nice wines too. We will be back soon. Our second visit was last week. We sat outside in the delightful patio and garden area overlooking the village church and surrounded by flowers, it was a treat. Our food was excellent - bang bang cauliflower was followed by hake and cod mornay and salmon and prawn linguine which were absolutely delicious. The St Clements posset, with the shortest shortbread ever, topped off our meal very nicely. We left feeling very full and happy. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, we will be back again.

The staff were cheerful and friendly, and we enjoyed soft scones with clotted cream and jam. The hot chocolate for the kids was delicious too. The brownie could have been a bit less sweet, but the cheesecake was lovely. It's a good place to stop after seeing Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. (8 minutes by car) There is a paid parking lot (£1.90 for 2 hours) opposite the cafe, but coins are the only option, so if you want to pay by card, grab the cafe's wifi (no password) and use Ringgo. You can pay through the app. It's a soft, crumbly style scone, and it's large so you can eat one per person. Only the cream tea set (tea + scone + jam/cream) is listed on the menu, but you can also order the scone alone (jam/cream costs extra). It doesn't taste amazing, but the staff is friendly and it's easy to enjoy.
