Went here for sunday roast yesterday, waited ages for our food and when it arrived it was lukewarm , the meat was cold the carrots and broccoli were uncooked and cold fortunately the gravy was hot ,my husband had roast pork which came in one lump plonked on the top of his vegetables like a huge chop, also cold , very noisy due to over crowded room , high price for mediocre meal !

My wife and I had eaten here a couple of times before, both midweek, and had gorged ourselves on some excellent food, including the fabulous steak and kidney pudding, so we decided to try the Sunday Roast - especially as there are so many good reviews. Sorry to say that we were very disappointed. I tried the mixed meat version, adding a cauliflower cheese (£4) as a side. The beef slice was sinewy and bland, the lamb tasteless, and the pork reminded me of school dinners. All of the meat on my plate seemed to have been microwaved before serving, giving it a 'boiled' taste and texture. On the other hand, my wife's beef looked medium rare and far tastier - which she was happy to confirm. The vegetables (red cabage, a few green beans, carrots, and a spoon of swede) were all well overcooked and lacking seasoning. They were served in small quantities on a small sharing platter which, again, made for a very disappointing experience. The 3 roast potatoes were piping hot but weren't crisp - and were also bland. The Cauliflower cheese, although cheesy to taste, was incredibly watery - the worst I've ever encountered - and I've had a few! The best part of the meal were the Horseradish and Mint sauces, so I'm guessing they weren't homemade. This was a real pity, as The Church House Inn is a decent pub in a pretty village, with ample parking and great serving staff. My previous dining experiences there had been fabulous. Not sure what's changed, but it certainly isn't for the better and we've been put off from returning on a Sunday. There are several, far better Sunday lunches to be had in the vicinity.

Went for Sunday lunch, beautiful old building with a fair size beer garden, young friendly staff with ready smiles and very competent, the wife had whitebait to start whilst I had the mushrooms which both were meet tasty, mains were roast beef with the trimmings and a side of cauliflower cheese, best roast I've had while I've been living in Devon she had fillets of trout which she demolished, we both had the passion fruit roulade, mine with ice cream hers with double cream, it's definitely a place we'll be returning to and bringing visiting family and friends

Booked at short notice and host very flexible as we were uncertain of arrival timing. Well, what a treat all the six of us had. Possibly the best pub meals we have had with everything cooked perfectly and fresh. Lovely atmosphere ( a proper village pub with no tv sports or music playing) and we could not have wished for a more friendly welcome. Excellent value and perfectly cooked food, and plenty of it, what more could you want. Thank you mine host and staff. We will definitely return. Pete.

Had been to this pub earlier in the week and thoroughly enjoyed a goats cheese flan with cheddar pastry. Returned and reordered the same dish....it was really not the same meal....just an old flan reheated in a microwave that made the pastry soggy and the goats cheese curdle. Should have sent it back but was with friends and didn't want to make a fuss. I told the waitress who cleared our plates and got a whispered sorry but was completely unacknowledged by the chef or management. As we paid I fed back how bad the meal was to the staff at the bar who again seemed to not know how to deal with a complaint. I wasn't expecting any recompense as I hadn't complained earlier but did expect some acknowledged that I'd had a bad meal. Won't be going back.

We are Australians travelling and staying down the road, we dined out for dinner around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. We didn’t make a reservation but we’d recommend to, if you come later as they were starting to get busy as we were leaving. We ordered Westcountry Rump Steak and Lasagna. We requested the steak to be cooked medium rare but it came out more on the medium side, although super tender which was good. We didn’t complain but if we had, I’m sure they would’ve been happy to replace. The rest of the food, sauces, drinks and sides were perfect that’s why we didn’t want to be a bother. Staff were great and locals even friendlier!

Me and my family (16 of us) came here for a holiday, we rented one of the houses in the same village as the pub. We visited on a Thursday evening, the pub is traditional and has a very charming atmosphere. A large variety of drinks to choose from, we were really spoilt for choice! We had table service, I didn’t catch the name of the lady that was looking after us but she was very attentive. The menu had something for everyone, the specials board was very impressive as well. I was torn between ordering the Rump steak or the Fish…. I ordered the Rump steak with a honey and mustard sauce. It was cooked to perfection, the sauce was sweet but still had a punch which matched perfectly with my juicy medium rare steak. Very reasonably priced as well. I had a chocolate fudge cake for pudding, it was delicious. As for the rest of my family, absolutely no complaints. We had the best time, service was great and the food was excellent. I personally hope to visit again soon, but living so far away might make that a little difficult but I will definitely be back! I really appreciate a proper British pub, with proper food and drinks. Well done!

We went in because we urged to by Nigel from the bookshop (no 69, which we also highly recommend) We had a proper pasty, with faultlessly cooked veg, and the right amount of perfectly peppered beef skirt. The crimping was a creation of Cornish cuteness. My friend chose a diabetes inducing (which was what she was after!😂) lovely Mars Bar cake. Sally makes it all herself, and there was not anything that didn't look gorgeous. Sally was warm and friendly, welcomed us in, and made a point to say thank you and goodbye and wish us a good rest of our day. We left, sated, warm and happy.
