Firstly the service is great. The young staff work hard and are attentive. The food too was lovely. Only niggle was we wanted about an hour after ordering, but we were advised there would be a wait and staff apologised after about 30 minutes. It gets busy, we booked and there didn't seem to be any walk ins. Overall good evening, thanks.

Came a few weeks ago just as the new owners had taken over. What a lovely couple and such a gorgeous little dog (Katy). Warm and friendly welcome. We had the mince and dumplings and steak pie and enjoyed it very much. The dumplings were just like the ones I wish I could make, soft and fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. My partner thought the steak pie was fantastic, all served with extra gravy. Really great value for money. Couldn't fault the experience and would definitely return. Please give it a go and support this lovely local business.

The Sunday Dinner is outstanding, thee best iv had in a very long time, absolutely scrumptious with all the trimmings. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the place is full of character and iv never seen such clean toilets! Plus Dogs are welcome. A massive two thumbs up from me.

The new owners have really come in and shown how it’s done. They are so friendly, and after only a few weeks have made a great impression on us here in North Cowton. The food is very tasty. Tonight I had a Pork Parmo, which I’ve not had for over twenty years due to most places now only offering Chicken Parmo. It was lovely, well worth the 2 decade wait. And if you fancy the Chicken version, you can have that instead as they do both. The homemade Steak Pie is to die for - gorgeous melt in the mouth steak chunks with lovely gravy. Proper chunky homemade chips as well to top it off. The next thing we want to try is the Sunday lunch. We were in having a few drinks and saw the plates of food being served and it’s looked really nice - everyone was saying they were stuffed afterwards. The new owners have also started opening from lunchtime everyday, meaning it’s a great place to have a ride-out for a nice lunch, as well as going on an evening.

What a gorgeous country pub. It’s recently been taken over by the new tenent Jo and she’s doing a fine job. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were so friendly us us and our pup, but most of all the food was perfect. 100% recommend this place and we will certainly be returning x

Absolutely the best Sunday Roast. Attentive staff, friendly and approachable, very nice pub interior and very plenty parking and dog friendly in bar area dining.

Having had a good experience here before, we took friends, however the food was sub par. Spring rolls over done and hard, lamb served on mushy parsnips, had been slow cooked the browned in a pan, overdone, steak was poor, the fish and chips was however very good. Service was not. We had to go find staff to get drinks ordered more than once, they passed our table several times where all our glasses were empty. It wasn’t even busy. They just seem to want to chat with friends rather than serve us. Then were abrupt when we disturbed them to take a drinks order. Maybe it was because it wasn’t busy that they switched off. But they have lost potential regulars . We will not be back. Incidentally. The table across from us we heard complaints. They had burger with rock solid bap. And left much of their food also.

Fabulous meal, super atmosphere and really friendly people. Great music too. Thank you so much we’ve had a perfect night.

6 of us for Fathers Day & whilst it was busy the service & food were excellent as always; they even had someone on the piano which was a lovely touch on a special day

This has recently been taken over by a lovely couple from South Shields. And wow. We’ve been a fair few times now for Sunday lunch and it never disappoints. The food, the staff and the atmosphere is next to none. What a lovely place to go and enjoy food. And the sticky toffee pudding is incredible. Never had anything like it !! Thank you all for doing such a fab job and we will see you soon!!

Amazing Sunday lunches served here. Massive choice and all cooked to perfection. Great choice of ales as well as other drinks.

Myself and my wife were staying at a nearby caravan site and The Herdsman was only a 15 minute walk. Its a beautifull traditional pub with a log burner which is very cozy. The landlady and her family/staff were so friendly and welcoming, our dog Bailey was instantly like one of the family. A selection of hand pull ales are on offer as well as draught lagers and beers , I had a 'few' pints of Wainwright and my wife had the Rosè wine both of which were really nice. The first night we had a parmesan takeaway and was one of the best I've ever had. The second night we stayed for a meal , we had two different seafood dishes which were beautifull . The whole menu looked great and we will definitely be back again to sample some more of it and look forward to another welcoming friendly experience.Thank you all very much from Mark , Wendy and Bailey the boxer

The Herdsman is fast becoming our favourite for Sunday Lunch. Everything from the friendliness of the staff when you walk through the front door, to the price for drinks and the food, to the sheer quality of what you eat is just outstanding. Tables are spread out, and everything is table service. You enter through the front and exit through the back, so there is no crossing paths. Such a warm and welcoming village pub, which we absolutely cannot fault at all. Well done Louise and her team.

Since the Herdsman has recently been taken over the food has got better and better.. the menu is great, the deserts are really good quality and so is the cheese board. The staff are lovely and the new Covid restrictions are fully in place with ample room between tables. We took family here that we had not seen for months as they live down south, none of us were disappointed. Would highly recommend the place, even just for drinks. It does get busy though so I would recommend booking especially for a weekend.

Food is great and the staff are really friendly. I have also had takeout from here over the pandemic and the quality was still really good.

We took a detour and found this hidden gem on the way back from visiting Fountains Abbey in Ripon. The Herdsman offers some of the best pub food around! The menu offers up a delicious collision of the local and the seasonal produce and I would highly recommend!

We were welcomed in on a Wednesday evening for our Eat Out & Help Out experience. Not too busy but a nice buzz in the place. Service was excellent and the food was very, very good. Presentation first class!

I visited the Herdsman last night with my family and the food was absolutely fantastic! There were some really intriguing and delicious items on the menu such as the cheeseburger scotch egg and the cheesy ‘chips’, both of which I tried and were very impressed with. I had the steak for my main course and it was perfectly cooked and it came with a very flavourful peppercorn sauce and crispy chips. Lou and her staff were very welcoming and they were very quick to accommodate any requests that me and my family had. I will definitely be returning to the Herdsman and I would recommend it to anyone because there were plenty of delicious dishes to choose from!

Restaurant very nice and well laid out for the covid measures. Staff were very pleasant friendly, easy to chat with and accommodating.Excellent choices on the menu, something for everyone. The dishes were very tasty, well cooked and presented lovely. The pork chop was absolutely delicious. Very juicy and tender. Well recommended. The red wine and strawberry trifle was a delight, one of the best trifles I have tasted for a long long time.

Highly recommend this place for great food and service. We went there for our anniversary and the staff were great and the choices on the menu was varied to suit all diets. I hear the Sunday lunches are also excellent...🙃

This was our first meal out post lock down. We used to love the Sunday carvery here but the new lunch menu didn’t disappoint. There was a small but varied choice for starters, ample mains and some beautiful desserts. We opted for the rump beef main and I have to say it was one of the nicest we’ve had. Staff were brilliant, attentive but not over baring. Social distancing was well observed throughout.Can’t wait to go back !

What a fantastic evening as always. Lou and Brooke went out of their way to make the occasion special, helping me keep the balloons secret so it was a surprise for the birthday girl and the three school leavers. A fuss was made of all the children.As always the food was superb, every single plate was left clean. Just as an added bonus it was Steak night! What a fantastic deal, even included a starter! So glad our village pub is back, we missed you guys xx

My family and I were staying at the local campsite and visited the Herdsman for Sunday Lunch. What a treat! I'm so glad we visited the Herdsman as our first "out of lockdown" meal. It was delicious and Louise and her staff were more than welcoming! We had had a lovely time. We also felt safe with all the measures Louise and her team had put in place. We'll be back!

It was great to be back in The Herdsman on Saturday. We were pleased to see all guidelines had been put in place and we felt safe and very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming as usual and the food was delicious as always. We look forward to returning to The Herdsman to try other dishes from the new menu.

Myself and my partner went to The Herdsman for our first meal out since lockdown. All members of staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food we recieved was delicious and the service was very good. Would definitely recommend the sticky toffee pudding.Later that evening, to my surprise and joy, my partner popped the question! What was a wonderful moment was made even more special by everyone working there who celebrated with us. Thank you x

Been back to our favourite family run pub for Sunday lunch, even after a long lock down they did not disappoint! The food was amazing the staff brilliant as always! All social distancing rules applied! Hand sanitizer and records for track and trace in place ! Excellent thank you

I visited here with family today now some of the lockdown restrictions have eased. We followed the one way into the pub and hand sanitiser instantly available, all the 2 metre distancing is in place and marked areas, disposable menus and the form to leave our details for track. The Herdsman have all the safety and hygiene in place and it didn’t feel uncomfortable or strange, it was really well organised and comfortable, the place has a lovely atmosphere, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. We’ll be back for definite

Wow! Feather blade of beef was outstanding! So, so tender and full of flavour. Pork Belly was amazing too. Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere.

Lovely meal in pleasant atmosphereWe visited the Herdsman with a group of friends for dinner last night (Thursday). We received a warm welcome from landlady Louise and enjoyed a lovely meal. Some ate from the ‘Steak night’ menu and others from the a la carte menu. All meals were freshly prepared and delicious. There was plenty of room inside including a large conservatory, and outside there is a covered seating area. At the moment food is not available on Mondays (darts night) and Tuesdays (quiz night). Recommended

Called in Sunday to this amazing pub, spotless, great service and the Sunday lunch was 10/10. Previously been to Travellers Rest a number of times and you can see the quality is the same already. Well done, we will return.

I don't write many reviews but I felt compelled to leave one after visiting The Herdsman for Sunday lunch. One word.....fantastic!!! Warm, welcoming and attentive staff. Good menu choices and reasonably priced. And the food was amazing...good sized portions with plenty of veg, gravy and real homemade Yorkshire pudding, excellent quality and nicely presented. I would highly recommend this venue and we will definitely be back :-)

Great service and atmosphere from warm and welcoming staff. Roast dinner was absolutely lovely. Served with separate generous portion of vegetables.including cauliflower cheese, proper Yorkshire puds and as much gravy as you needed. Couldn't manage a pudding but maybe next time as they looked good too.

Lovely dinner and friendly staff that went above and beyond for service. Can’t believe we got cauliflower cheese included with lunch! Only suggestion would be to have swede on the lunch and maybe lamb but everything else was spot on!

We recently visited the newly reopened Herdsman for an evening meal and it was first class. We received a warm welcome from the staff, the service was excellent and the food outstanding. We enjoyed it so much we booked for Sunday lunch and we weren't disappointed. The pork and featherblade beef were delicious and plentiful.Well done to the new management and staff we will definately be back and will recommend to our friends.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. The pub has just reopened under new management and the staff were very attentive and the food was outstanding.At first we though the menu looked a little pricey but the food did not disappoint and was well worth what we paid.The beef was melt in the mouth and the pork crackling was amazing.We will definitely be returning very soon to try the evening menu.

we booked our family table of 5 for 7.15. asked to sit in the bar eventually took drinks order.AT 8-10 we were allocated our table...there was only one other small group in.If they had told us they were short staffed wr maybe wouldnt have minded but an hoir overtime is not too acceptableFOOD WAS VERY GOODZ

The menu looks amazing, the pictures of the building look great, this was a treat for the last day of our holiday. After emailing to book and recieving no reply we should have just found somewhere else. But we turned up in hope of getting a table, there was an all bar one table, empty restaurant and the booking sheet only had 8 bookings. We waiting 25 minutes and whilst asking for a table we were told we would be seated once we received our starters. They took a further 20 minutes once finally seated. The kids Nacho's were crushed up crumbs and liquid cheese. Mine and my husband's starters just didn't make sense. The gravy for the black pudding had cucumber and peppers chopped into it? The pork ribs came in a sauce and then had sweet chilli sauce on the side, the two sauces did not go together at all. We ordered the porterhouse to share. It was cooked as we requested but the whole sirloin side was full of sinew and was inedible, we did try. The veg and mash was microwaved which was disappointing, all I can say was that the mushrooms were nice. We did mention to the waitress and there was no apology, she did offer to take 10% off the cost of the steak which considering the steak was £36 and our meal came to nearly £80 this was a bit disappointing. My husband then struggled to even pay the bill because the waitress was too busy to come back to the table. (Her words) The herdsman has everything to make it amazing but it wasn't. Really disappointed that our final day of holiday ended with us grabbing a service station pasty.

Called in for Sunday lunch. The place was very busy and appeared to be very popular with families. We waited for a while at the bar before being served. You have to buy your voucher for your lunch at the bar. There are a range of plates from a baby bowl at £3 up to an extra large plate at I think £13. We opted for the medium plate at £10 and the large plate at £12. You then have to book a table with a waitress. As we were only two there wasnt a wait for a table. We queued for the carvery which did look very nice. There was quite a range of mains including all of the roasts plus vegetarian options. The main choice of roasts was accompanied by pigs in blankets and stuffing balls. There was a good choice of vegetables including carrots, turnip, cabbage, cheesy leeks and red cabbage, three kinds of potato. Usual sauces and gravy. The food although looking very lovely wasnt great. The pigs in blankets werent very tasty and I felt these were cheap sausages. The stuffing balls were extremely stodgy and chewy. The turkey was tasty but the gammon was tasteless. Vegetables were very nicely cooked and the red cabbage was very nice, although I wasnt sure on the addition of raisins. Husband opted for a little of all of the meats - pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, gammon and turkey. You could not fault the volume but I am not sure on the quality. Not for us this place.

Met a customer here recently .We decided to have a quick bite to eat, instead of just having a drink. Some of the reviews on here are quite negative but both my friend and I really enjoyed the food. If i'm passing here again I will gladly call in to sample the Sunday lunch as I often find that its the one thing that many restaurants cant quite get right.

sunday dinner is served with gravy all on the top so you can't see the crap thats underneath . the food was cold and the gravy hot ...what does that tell you served on a plate and warmed with gravy when I said something we were just fobbed off

Visited for there steak night & have been for there Sunday carvery now and must say it's excellent. Both times sam3 staff and have been lovely, great range of drinks would highly recommend.

Tessside Parmo fanatic visit one of the best I have had. It wasn’t beaten to a crisp it was thick and juicy and the sauce on top was lovely. We had two Parmesan, all the trimmings and a huge garlic bread for £20, bargain. Teeside eat your heart out. Will return.

After being told this was the sister pub of the bridge in Stapleton we booked a table of 9 for a family celebration ‘ WOW what a disappointment . The food was not good at all over cooked and fatty steak ,chicken satay like plastic;soggy chips. We waited over an hour for starters then another hour to be served our main course . We were told they had a lot of walk ins asking for food and only 1 chef and this was the reason . Have to say the waiting staff could not apologise enough and were absolutely lovely to us they seemed very embarrassed by the whole situation. Senior management and owners need to get a grip of this beautiful old pub to improve food and support staff . Definitely would not recommend it for food and probably won’t ever return.

Absolutely disgusting We came here, after booking 3 days in advance, as a leaving meal for our friend moving away. When we arrived, they accused us of not booking, and made it out as if we were lying. We definitely booked, they just didn’t write it down - which they admitted to at the start. We were told there would be a wait, as there was a table of 9 in at the same time - but we didn’t expect this wait to be 3 hours, especially in the circumstances of it being a quiet Tuesday night. When we eventually got our main meal at 9:45pm, we were past hungry - as we had to wait for the table of 9 to get their starters, mains and desserts before us. The food was average, and there was a few things that were below standard, for example, the mash potato was described on the menu as creamy and buttery, but when it came it was dry and lumpy. The lasagne was greasy and lacked mince. We understand their normal chef was on holiday, but you shouldn’t leave the restaurant with a chef who can’t stand the pressure of a table of 8 and a 9, and no one else in the restaurant by the time we ate.The experience was made so much worse by the barmaid who couldn’t even apologise once, and quite frankly had a disgusting attitude, blaming everything on us for apparently not booking. (We would never turn up as a party of 8 and not book) The waitress who served us however was very polite. As our bill came to £207, we would have appreciated anything knocked off, but the b barmaid wouldn’t even let us off for £1.40 left on the bill to pay that we had miscalculated, let alone say sorry. As we all work in a restaurant ourselves, we understand how some shifts can be hard, but there can be no excuse for how badly we were treated by the bar staff, and the extremely long wait.We will never be returning, and will not be recommending to anyone. This place should be ashamed of itself and its reputation, and really needs to work on its customer service.

We visited as a party of 11 guests for Sunday dinner. Most of us had the "medium plate" but this could easily have passed as a large plate!! 2 meats and as much veg as you can pile on! Great value for money.(Also worth noting that when booked in for Sunday afternoon carvery the usual menu is not available)

Absolutely marvellous. The food is fantastic,the service was excellent,the beer is cold.Suitable to families,couples with children and you can also take your dog into the bar area. Lovely covered seating area outside.I can't praise this place enough. A little gem in a lovely peaceful village setting.I will certainly be going back for more.Beautiful.

We called in here on the previous Sun afternoon after having had an average cavary elsewhere. We were impressed by the welcome we received and the presentation of the Sunday cavary. So we visited again for an evening meal. The person behind the bar couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. The food was really excellent. I would strongly recommend the Beef Wellington. I have no connection with the pub nor the area and I will complain if we feel the service and food are mediocre. This is an excellent place to drink and eat good quality food.

What a little gem this place is. Not only is it a lovely pub but the carvery was outstanding. Much more of a selection of meats than we were used to and staff were both polite and helpful. The price for what you get was more than reasonable. I would certainly recommend the herdsman to anyone living or visiting the area.

We, on the spur of the moment, decide to eat out. We ended up at The Herdsman & were not disappointed. In short:. Polite, friendly, very attentive & professional service. . Outstanding meal - we had the Tuesday £30 steak & dessert. Both steaks were succulent, the meal well presented & arrived well within a very reasonable time; the sticky toffee pudding to die for.. Enjoyed a lovely lunch here after our walk around the area. As very keen walkers we regularly visited the area to enjoy the treks around, and finish with lunch. First visit today, very charming busy pub, great staff and food to match. Really enloyed he black sheep very crisp, will visit again.

We tried here for the first time on Mothering Sunday which is not the best idea. Nearly two weeks before Mother’s Day I phoned to book a table of 6 to be informed they don’t make bookings it is on a first come first served policy with this in mind we decided to try and get there soon after opening as possible which is 12 we arrived at 1220 and there were no tables left we were informed we would have to wait 30 minutes we accepted. We purchased drinks and our plate sizes as you pay based on the size of your plateBaby bowl £4Small £8Medium £10 (normal size dinner plate)Large £11Extra large £12 Most of us opted for the medium size and that was sufficient. An hour and 10 minutes later we got our table which is a very long time to wait. Luckily the food was nice and compensated for time wasted waiting. There was a good selection of meat and vegetables. We will possibly return but not on a Sunday again. So my warning to you is avoid this pace on special occasions days there is limited seating.

Enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch sat in the sun on the terrace yesterday. Lovely selection of food available at very resonable pricing. Did not manage a dessert but had a few rhubarb Gins whilst the children played on the play park. Had a nice day.

Went for Sunday lunch here for the first time today and we couldn’t fault it. Once we finished our dinners we went and sat by the fire for a few more drinks. 5 stars all round

Called in to try the new 'Parmo Special' 2 for £20.Not many people in the pub when we arrived, (1 table of 5 persons & 1 table of 2 persons) so very quiet and only one person serving.We were greeted chearfully and shown to our table, our drinks brought to the table within a couple of minutes.We ordered the Parmo special, which arrived in a timely fashion.You can see from the picture that they didn't skimp on portions and all was cooked and presented well.All in all a really good meal for the price....

Have visited here many times previously for sunday lunch and evening meals & always found it pleasing. Came for my daughters 20th last night and must say the food was outstanding, came quick, hot and beautifully presented. There new spring menu is well presented with plenty of choice & at great prices, give it ago you will not be disappointed. Well done to the new chef you have excelled.

Carvery Sunday lunch very nice, menue very good choice, reasonable prices and very good atmosphere the service and staff couldn't be more helpful I would definitely recommend that you try for yourself you won't be disappointed.

Booked a table for 4 on there tuesday steak night, and had some amazing food. We had all had sirloins which iam sure there bigger than they advertise, with a abundance of side dishes & sauces all were lovely. The sticky toffee pudding was easily the best i have had, i did ask the waitress for the recipe which the chef wrote it down for me. Great food, great service and fantastic value.

Came as a family of 7 without booking and they were more than welcoming quick drink at the bar while they set a table up for us the food was amazing we had starters and mains but were all way to full for a desert although I was tempted as looked amazing on other tables. Would definitely recommend to anyone

Visited here on Thursday lunchtime and it was pretty empty. We were given menus and offered drinks by a very helpful & pleasant waitress. The menus were huge with lots of choice on them. There was also a set lunch menu. I decided to go for the ‘cow pie’ which was just a larger version of the normal beef & ale pie. It came and it was quite large! I got the jacket potato with it however needed to order veg separate which was surprising and a little disappointing that it wasn’t included. The pie however was tasty with nice cuts of meat in it. Others at our table ordered the fish & chips which was really nice and the normal steak pie which was a bit smaller than mine however there were a couple of poor cuts of meat in that one. Would definitely return here however as it’s such a nice place and there are plenty of other options to try.

Popped in on the way back from the auction last Wednesday evening had a lovely meal. The portions I would say are a little big but excellent value, bet it’s a lovely place to sit in the summer months. Would definitely recommend a trip.

After reading the numerous high rated reviews, We decided to venture for lunch whilst in the area visiting family/friends. Totally at a loss as too where some people arrive at their ratings regarding this establishment!! Poor service which i can only put down to untrained members of staff. Range of wines on offer was relatively poor in comparison to other places we have visited. Food was nothing special, mediocre at its level best!! The overall experience, service and food do not do justice to the owners. Poor!!

Ordered 2 burgers that should've come with pulled pork. After advising the staff that the pulled pork was missing we were told its because we've done you the burger from next Mondays new menu, so not what we ordered.... Just checked the new menu and that was a lie. One salmon meal received still cold.... The staff offered to reheat it. What!!!!! Then to be told we'll just charge you half price as you've eaten some pastry. What a joke. We'll stick to the arden arms

Had a lovely night with the girls here never felt rushed and the food was really good. The lady who made our cocktails true legend they were gorgeous. A very smart eatery will be back.

Go here most weeks for a Sunday lunch and each week it’s amazing. Great selection of meats and plenty of new stuff to try. Staff are so friendly and never forget who we are. Always greet us with a smile and come for a quick chat. Also the macaroon knickerbocker is to die for

Like always I telephoned ahead to check if they had disabled access. The lady I spoke to confirmed this to me. Staying what time I would be arriving, she asked for my partner to go in and contact them, they would come and place a ramp, so I could gain access. A lmember of staff came out ( Linda) who placed the ramp down for me to gain access. We were shown to a table which was beside the fire and bar. The Staff are very attentive and very polite, as well as helpfu!. We both had the carvery which was piping hot and cooked to perfection. Another member of Staff ( Mia ) asked how our meals were and she is a credit to the bar staff. Once we finished the mains we decided to have some afters, my partner had deep fried chocolate bar and sauces, and I had the sticky toffee pudding with icecream. 5 stars for your establishment. The only thing I would mention is the corridor going to the restroom, it's a tight squeeze for a wheelchair. After our meal the ramp was paid down again to allow me to egress the property. The pub and staff are first rate, clean polite and ready to help. There are some very nice real ales aswell, also cocktails. Well done. Mala 1098.

Came here for lunch today with the girls for our monthly catch up and so glad I chose this place after hearing nothing but good things it didn’t disappoint the food was fantastic and the desserts were out of this world

Well this was the worst carvery we have ever been to! I had piece of duck it was over cooked and stringy the Yorkshire pudding was hard and dry the veg was much to hard and no taste at all, non of it was very warm my husband couldn’t eat his beef,! Really disappointed won’t return awful.

Popped in here today through searching on google for a good Sunday roast and had a great lunch. It is a carvery but not like your usual ones, it had everything. What stood out fo me was the venison it was to die for and the chef was very Happy in explaining the options. Two Sunday lunches and a drink each £20 bargain & there was so much food, will most definitely return.

Visited here last night and what an evening great staff lovely food and best of all massive portions which is great for a big eater like me Would definitely recommend

Came here for lunch and food was gorgeous and really reasonably priced too. The pub/ restaurant itself is very smart inside and the lady serving was really friendly. We will definitely return, nice outside seating for summer too.

Overall, a great evening. Good quality food, with large portion sizes, and very friendly and efficient staff.

Fantastic night start to finish the staff were really friendly even went the extra mile to interact with my children which you don’t see a lot the food was great massive portions I couldnt fit a dessert in but I bet they were just as big thank you for a great night the kids loved it just as much as us thank you

All the food was really good, but we waited well over an hour for starters despite the dining room being mostly empty at the time. Hopefully they’ll be able to overcome this as this was the only thing that really let the meal down. The portions are also huge so make sure you come in hungry!

Had a lovely Saturday Lunch here today. Staff were welcoming, helpful, pleasant, attentive and cheerful. The menu huge and atmosphere relaxed and convivial. The food was lovely and plentiful. Thoroughly recommended.

Fabulous find!Up visiting the mother for the weekend and fancied going somewhere we'd never been before. This place was fab! We arrived early (12.30) so the place was quite quiet but more people came in as the afternoon went on. We were greeted by very friendly staff who were both attentive and well mannered. Ordered the heardsman sharer for starters - huge amount of food and absolutely lovely. The sauce with the mussels was fabby! Fish and chips for main was lovely and crisp and chips were great! The only very minor criticism I have or suggestion....would be a couple more bits of bread on the sharer so we can eat all the cheese and mop up that lovely sauce!

A wonderful find. Smart ,renovated pub with friendly staff,excellent dining areas, attentive service and amazing quality food all reasonably priced. A long drive from our home in York but we would definitely go again. Thank you.

Had a awesome Sunday lunch here with the kids, so much choice available. Would recommend getting there early it gets busy. 5 stars from me.

Came here for the opening night and to be honest have been most weeks since. It has a lovely feel where you don’t want to leave & the staff do not rush you to leave. Sat in front of the fire with penny (the dog) tonight and the waitress brought a bowl of water, a treat & a blanket for her, it’s the little things that mean so much. The food is always good and I have never left feeling disgruntled or hungry lol See you all again soon. Miranda

We have been for Sunday lunch both as a larger group and also just as a couple. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming the minute you walk in. The food is always fresh and tastes great. Would highly recommend.
