Enjoyed a lovely breakfast here this week. I’ve actually been a few times and it’s always been good. The service feels like whomever is hiring or training the staff, really wants them to care about their customers. Both of us enjoyed our eggs benedict and watermelon iced tea. The eggs were perfect and runny. Yum. We noticed that there is a happy hour with cocktails, so we might try that next time!

lovely surroundings. Awful food, service and atmosphere. Booked lunch for a friends birthday and paid a £5,00 per head non-refundable deposit. I have been fortunate to eat at some amazing restaurants, and can honestly say that I have only been asked to pay a deposit a couple of times. On arrival, we were surprised that such a lovely space was so empty, there was only 2 other people in the whole place. It is a large room with tables to sit I would say at least 75 patrons. We had to approach the staff as we were not greeted on arrival. We were not seated, and there was no reserved signs on any tables. After choosing where to sit down, we were ignored to the point that one of my friends got up and took some menus from one of the other tables as we had none on ours. We were then told that to order we were to get up and go to the counter. One of our party was unwell, so my friend that had made the booking told one of the staff, her reply was a curt, "well you don't get your deposit back". When we went to order, the deposit caused so much confusion. It went from bad to worse after that. A drink arrived with some spilt on the saucer, and nothing was said. The menu is limited to say the least and quite frankly boring. My friends have been to the tearoom on site, but thought that as this was a birthday celebration, it would be nice to "upgrade". How wrong they were! The food arrived in dribs and drabs. There were no condiments/sauces offered apart from salt and pepper on the table. One of our party had ordered quiche and salad. This arrived with a large portion of chips on the plate, which was unexpected. The "salad "consisited of a lettuce leaf, a couple of slices of tomato and the same of cucumber. The quiche was so hard that my friend could not cut into it, so when our chuck in the oven scampi, chips and dried up peas arrived, my friend commented about it. The waitress duly returned it to the kitchen, returning sometime later with a replacement, which was cold, well frozen in the middle. Our other meals were no better, and we decided that rather risking feeling unwell, we would not eat it. To be honest, it was so tasteless, it was not enjoyable. The waitress removed our plates and we prepared to leave. She returned stating that the "CHEF" was sorry and that we would be getting a full refund. This itself was problematic and we were sent to the reception area in another building to sort one of our party's out. All in all, a very disappointing and unpleasant experience, and not one that any of us will be repeating.

Perfect. Simply the very best roast lunch in a restaurant..and I am picky. I had the roast pork and it was slow roasted and so tender. Two others with me one had beef the other lamb. Both said perfectly cooked and tasty. Fresh veg, delicious cauliflower cheese. 3 coarse meal for £24. Lovely friendly staff, warm and comfortable room. We will most certainly return...once we get over our food coma! Thank you!

My first visit to the Cross Keys and one of many to come. Participated in a chivelrous bout for the ages in the infamous premier pool league. Their tap water and ice is unrivalled and even better still, the owner and his family couldn't have made me feel more welcomed. Carvery is next...

Having eaten well and received excellent service here in the past, I write this review more in sorrow, than anything else. The service my friend and I received this lunchtime, was appalling. Firstly, we waited some 15 minutes before a member of staff actually took our order for two Sunday lunches. We then waited; and continued to wait until we saw other customers, who had arrived after us, receiving their meals. We then spoke to one member of staff who apologised saying the kitchen had lost our order. But instead of prioritising us, other customers continued to receive their orders before us. To make matters worse, apart from that one member of staff, the manager couldn’t have cared any less. In conclusion, it’s sad to see the declined of a place that was once renowned for service and the high quality of its food. If Sheridans continues like this, it won’t be open for much longer.

Oh dear, what has happened to the menu! We have eaten many times here and the food has generally been consistent and the menu sensibly priced and with a good variety of dishes. Our previous visit was about 3 or 4 months ago so I assumed we would get the same or similar menu. My bad for not checking; the old menu has been replaced by pretentious French described dishes (why?!) and a huge price hike across the board. We chose the King Prawns Risotto, overpriced at £18.50. The dish was garnished with one king prawn, no more: the rice was tasty enough but the dish very poor value for money. Regrettably, we won't be returning, such a shame after an association with the hotel restaurant over many years. I suspect many people, like us, will vote with their feet. Nearby Crickhowell has much to offer on the dining front.
