The Crown Inn in Carlisle

2nd Sunday lunch there in 2 weeks! Cannot rate highly enough 🤩 and can say it’s consistently good. I’ve Excellent presentation, delicious food and plenty of it. Served by friendly, courteous staff. Nothing too much trouble. Desserts sounded great - but unfortunately didn’t have enough room to squeeze one in! £13.50 for 1 course, £18 for 2, which we thought was pretty reasonable.

After a little hiccup the wonderful Mathew found us a table in a crowded pub . The food is second to none, we had gammon for our mains looks great then the great Matilda bought us some vegetables . We had a great night , live band but had to leave early because of the lack of taxi situation.

Four of us visited on Saturday lunchtime and all enjoyed great meals. There was a festive menu and we can highly recommend the Christmas chicken meal and the burger with blue cheese. Service was great and nice atmosphere. We’ll be back to try some more of the festive menu

Sadly, a poor and unpleasant experience overall for 2 local families. We called ahead to book a table, informing that would be bringing children along after watching the Xmas light switch on. The table allocated had no menus & after finding some and asking for some childrens ones, we were told they couldn’t find them. We were told the childrens options but informed that kids meals cannot come with a veg option as well as chips? The food arrived completely missing off an adult meal. One adult meal (a £10 hotdog) arrived missing elements and looking incredibly unappetising. Due to the staff’s response and missing meal, we chose not to have this meal changed and instead sent it back. Upon paying for the meals had (which were acceptable but not great) we were met with an argumentative member of staff who wanted us to pay for the meal which was sent back. With hardly anyone in on a very busy night in Carlisle, we’d have thought the staff would like to look after the customers they had. But, we’re left now knowing why it was so quiet, when many other places were fully booked. Mistakes happen, but pleasantries and respect could have made our evening very different. I have left my number with the manager (not on shift) and will await her call.

I have been full of praise in my pat reviews but sorry to say that last Sunday afternoon was spoiled by noisy football fans why don't you switch the two tv's off in the main dining area near gents toilets on match days and let the fans watch on opposite side massive overpowering tv ? The person serving a young male also wants to be told to stop favouring his mates and regulars and ensure he serves properly by asking " who's " next"? We had my nephew and his wife with us recommended by me when had stopped enough route t st Albans to have a rest after travelling by car from Beilfast no cushions outside my beef was pink and chewy had to leave it my niece complained that roast patties were not pro o Dr roast patties but most an no y ing I don't like dogs being allowed inside but for your bar lad allowing a man in witalso wor foodh a ferret is not on !!!!YES A FERRETT extremely dissatisfied on this occasion waitns for food sorry but had to let you know the young lad serving I s not up to it very offhand the blond girl should teach him how to handle customers

Such a lovely clean pub. Didn’t feel dingy or dark but had Lovely interior decor and freshly cleaned bathrooms. Really great Atmosphere and vibe !! Looking forward to eating here soon.

It was my first time eating here, and I was very impressed. The food was delicious we had booked and table and food before going due to time of year and numbers. I ordered the beef which was delicious and well presented. I loved the individual gravy boat! The staff were friendly and food arrived promptly Definitely recommend

What is going on with this place?? It clearly has changed management recently! It used to be such a friendly accommodating pub. Went with a group of mates, like we have done for many years to enjoy a few pints and some food on Saturday afternoon. Was told that we couldn’t start a tab which we have done for years and has never been an absolute issue. The staff were pretty unfriendly and when I asked if we could have the big screen down to watch the cricket the reaction I got from the 12 year old behind the bar was as if I’d asked him to severe his head!! They then proceeded to try and work the screen but failed miserably! Also the beer/real ale selection was abysmal. We left after one pint and went to Stonyholme golf club that couldn’t have been more accommodating to us. I’m hoping things improve or else I won’t be returning…..

My husband and i decided to have a meal at this pub, whilst staying in Carlisle. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. It was one of the best meals we had while in Carlisle. It's lovely inside, very welcoming and nicely decorated. We definitely recommend giving it a try.

Food here was amazing! Not you standard pub food.. we had a mixture of food but we can highly recommend the following Thai curry, Indian pizza, steak pie and Mediterranean burger. Staff excellent and very attentive Great value for money

Popped in with my wife for a drink. Lovely pub. Great beer, can tell they do line clean regularly. Will definitely be back.

Visited with family, staff very friendly right throughout the visit. Food was amazing, my daughter has a nut allergy and this was dealt with very professionally. My one thing I would change is maybe have fries instead of chips with kids meals, but then next time we could ask. Honestly couldn't fault the pace. Highly Covid safe and a must for a visit.

Great staff who are very friendly and fun and create a lovely atmosphere. Service is quick and nothing is too much for the staff. Food is good quality pub food even if it was only tapas and pizza on the menu due to COVID restrictions. Pub is very COVID safe and you feel comfortable in the amazing beer garden that they have. Will return both under restrictions and once restrictions are lifted.

Haven’t been to The Crown since it had its refurbishment. We were welcomed and quickly shown to our table. Our drinks order was quickly taken and served. Everywhere seemed to be very clean and well looked after. Very friendly and will use as a local.

I only went in for a beer on a midweek night.You have to wait at the door until you are shown to your table, my drinks order was taken and arrived quickly which i paid for there and then, if you are staying longer you can run up a tab. Whilst not at your table and walking about you must wear a mask, there is a one way system in and out.I have to say it is well organised i felt very safe and the staff did a great job.

Called yesterday evening with my wife. The place was very busy at 5.45pm, got to the bar and ordered food and wine, quite casual in sitting place and payment at the end, I like that. Told slight delay on food due to being v/busy, so expectations were in place. Food came fairly quickly, and was very good bar food.All round great service, good food and great atmosphere.Strongly recommend.

As ever. a true review. Had a meal here and was refreshingly pleased. Decent menu. Good selection of beers wine's etc. Pleasant surroundings good staff attention. Disabled friendly toilets. As we only had the flat iron steak. And a chicken wrap it's all I can review. But other customers food looked equally good. Steak was cooked to order. and tender tasty and hot. Sides were fine. Chicken breast wrap was lovely. Pricing is good value. And all In all a very good pub grub establishment. Clean and welcoming. Can recommend.

Visited the Crown for a meal last November. Was impressed with quality of the food, very tasty and well presented, great value too. The staff were friendly and thought the Crown had a really nice atmosphere. Will definitely return next time we visit Carlisle.

Great food and beer. Excellent sports coverage and the staff super attentive and friendly. One of the best pubs in and around Carlisle.

This pub was opposite the hotel we stayed Decent Decor , didn't fancy main meal so requested a few starters and manager was fine with this Staff were very attentive and friendly Would return

My friend and I had a bar meal in this pub . Very clean. Nice attentive staff . Food was tasty and vegetables cooked perfectly fresh and nicely presented. Possibly noisy at weekends if football on though the tv volume was not too loud . Would recommend

My partner and I had booked into hotel opposite. Room wasn’t ready so we visited the crown for a few drinks. Lovely clean decor. Warm friendly atmosphere. Cold coors fantastic. Plenty of sport on the TVs if interested. Staff attentive. Service good .

Went to the crown for Sunday dinner with my partner and my best friend - we all had roast beef and it was the most loveliest tasting - well presented Sunday dinner I've had in a pub for a long time - will defo go back and try other meals of the menu and defo back for Sunday dinner

Friendly efficient staff. Good value dinner options that were served quickly and hot. Very popular with locals so a bit too noisy.

Three of us visited to celebrate the birthday of my elderly mother in law. The host was so friendly and welcoming, wishing her a happy birthday. The menu has excellent choice and brilliant to see specials for elderly customers who do not want to eat too much. Quality of food was excellent, 3 main courses with extra sides ( not really needed), 2 sweets, 4 drinks all for £42. Excellent value for money.

Very nicely presented pub with friendly, welcoming staff. The menu offers a good selection of traditional pub food at, typically, £10-£12 for a main course with gluten and dairy free options. Dog friendly and free WiFi.

We ate here on a Friday night during a trip to Carlisle. The atmosphere was lively, the service extremely good and we all enjoyed the food. Very good value!

Whilst visiting family booked a table for dinner. Warm friendly environment, friendly staff and customers. Service was good and food was fresh and good quality. Pub food menu. It appeared to be a good sports bar given the number of TV screens. Enjoyed the visit.

Popped in for dinner on Saturday night when stopping over in Carlisle. Quite noisy but great atmosphere and all of the staff were really friendly and committed to getting it right. Classic pub food, but well presented and obviously from very good ingredients. We’d definitely come again. Well done!

We wanted a quick meal and were pleased to get in, get a table, and have our drinks and meal order taken pretty much straight away.

I go in for a drink but decided to try the food. We shared a starter of chicken strips which was quite tasty and then both had the steak. Steak was very tasty and very tender, tobacco onions were lovely, all in all very nice and very reasonably priced. We ordered our steak to be cooked medium and really it was closer to rare, this didn't bother me too much as it was so good but my partner couldn't finish the last bits but the dog loved it later! I'm certainly not complaining because I know that one man's 'medium' is another man's 'rare', it's all down to personal taste. We will be back for food though, that's a certainty.

Dinner was OK. Nothing to have about. Good pub food at a fair price. Don't go for the decour as it's in need of a renovation, but in saying that it was clean and tidy. Would go again.

Six of us went for a meal. Food was good quality. Though they had a large party in and warned us meals might take a while, it didn’t take long. Food was fresh, environment was lovely. Staff attentive and friendly.

We called in here a few times while staying at a nearby hotel. Once just for drinks, twice for food. It is very nicely decorated and the staff were friendly, welcoming and nice to chat to. There is a good menu with something for everybody. Both meals we had were very tasty, nice bar meals, better than average, good sized portions and in my opinion, not overpriced. We would definitely return here when next in Carlisle.

This has been my local for many a year and it’s recently had an overdue facelift the old state management bar that sat in centre of two rooms has gone making one large room with a brand new bar down one side it now has many new tv’s showing all sky sports channels car parking over the road free for 3 hours and outside pub after 7 pm plus bus stop right outside pub meals are served all day with a good choice there’s a lovely beer garden for those hot days kids are made welcome and there’s wheelchair access So you’ve no excuse to give it a try as all staff very friendly spot on

We were in Carlisle for one night and the Crown Inn Stanwix came highly recommended — so we gave it a try. Unfortunately, after being seated we were ignored for 15 minutes (or was it 20?). Yes, the pub was busy, but the one person on table service was rushed off her feet. Tables were cleared and cleaned around us but nobody paid any attention to us, not even to ask if we’d like to order drinks. We got up, left, and enjoyed an excellent meal a short walk down the street.

A group of us ate here one Sunday afternoon. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The bar area was clean and bright and although the menu consisted of typical pub grub, what we chose was very good and tasty.

The place is clean and well arranged, quite roomy. The menu seemed a little "corporate" when compared to other area places that were decidedly "local." Nevertheless, the food was well prepared and well served by a welcoming staff. I would return.

On the plus side the staff here were welcoming and smiley and the pub has been well refurbished. I decided to have the steak and ale pie which was disappointing, my husband had the burger which he said was very good, however the food is overpriced for what I’d basically pub grub.

Staying in the area for business and wanted somewhere different to eat. Nipped into this place and was not disappointed. Great portions and quickly served. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

Pero el menú ha cambiado y ahora es totalmente hamburguesas y solo digo un poco decepcionante, que solía hacer un super de cordero estofada que necesitaba para alimentar tu mismo 2 días antes para poder comer. Fue super! Por desgracia ya no hacer este tipo de comida y parece más adecuado, así que para los más pequeños de consumidores...

Me encontré con este lugar, pero contentos de haber hecho. Por algún extraño motivo, tiene sus propias indicaciones oficiales de la carretera, que indica que en la vecindad del Dalston y Durdar. La comida era buena comida de pub, grandes porciones de comida. El bistec muy bien cocinado quizás un poco de decepción patatas fritas congeladas. Encargado fue muy amable y nos dio buenas información ref paseos locales de perro.

Found it by mistake and stopped for Sunday lunch - 2 courses including a baked Brie which was beautifully done - steak and ale pie was tasty, thicker gravy would be nice but chips and sides were excellent. Well worth a stop

Llamamos que necesiten un viernes comida por la noche. Este fue un "típico" al norte de pub de Inglaterra. Pedimos la sopa del día, lo cual era tomate, pollo y bacon y una ensalada que era muy agradable, bastante un cambio refrescante de la "grub típica de pub". Estaremos encantados de comer aquí de nuevo si surge la cama en la que he dormido

Un hotel encantador al que volvería. La habitación y el baño estaban muy limpias, modernas y están decoradas con gusto.

Pasar una noche en la casa de esquina en Carlisle en nuestro camino a Escocia. Le pregunté a la chica de recepción si había cualquier lugar agradable para conseguir una comida barata. Dijo que probar la Corona. Como no estábamos demasiado hambre, mi pareja y yo pasamos un plato de brocheta de pollo y comparte algunas arce rizado patatas fritas. Nuestro amigo tenía las picaduras de pollo y arce rizado patatas fritas. Dios mío fue el mejor y el más sabroso pollo, cocinado a la perfección. Fue bien presentado con una ensalada y chili rellenos dulces chapuzón en el lado. Había suficiente en el plato que garantiza no tener nada más. Aprobado. Se recomiendan los precios, también. 2 grandes vasos de vino rosado y una botella de Peroni £10,10 . Se nos hubiera costado que sólo por el vino en casa.

I was in Carlisle with my wife, visiting our daughter who is a student at the university. We often come to visit her and tend to go for a bite to eat or a drink somewhere. We went for a few drinks and a meal on Friday afternoon and i have to say, i was far from impressed. My daughter has taken my wife and I here a few times before and the service and food were at a good standard for pub grub. However, this visit was far from its usual standard. The staff were rude, and seemed very inexperienced (I could've pulled a better pint myself!) As my daughter informed me, the pub has recently changed owners and the lady who we assumed to be the new manager was very unfriendly and cold towards customers. Considering this is what i consider to be an "old man's pub" this is not the type of service you would expect.The real ale was flat and the food was cold. my wife's wine glass had a lipstick mark around the edge and looked like it had only been rinsed with cold water.I think the service was far from acceptable and the staff could do with some training in customer service. I would definitely not recommend this pub to anyone, you are much better going to the Turf (which has recently been done up) or the Gosling Bridge which are not too far to walk from this awful pub.

Hasnt changed much over last 20 years but the Sunday roast was surprisingly good value and tasty. Can get a bit lively Fri/Sat evenings but generally sound.
