Loved our stay at the Museum Inn - the pub is fabulous and the people are so welcoming, friendly, and entertaining! We couldn't have asked for more. The menu is great, with a variety of specials on each day. We opted for three courses on both nights, with the steak, bacon chop, and chocolate rice pudding being the standouts (not all together!) The rooms are a little rough around the edges but the price is very good so it's hard to complain! Will definitely head back if I'm in that area again!

Had a lovely Saturday evening meal with friends. Waitresses were very efficient and knowledgeable about Wines & Food. My friend has a Gluten Free & egg Free diet, and they went out of their way to make sure her food was ok. Lovely ambience and location. We are local and regular come here. Approx £50 per head for 2 courses excluding wine.

What a fantastic lunch had at the Museum Inn yesterday. We had one each of the starter and mains on the set menu. They were superb! The terrine was full of quality meat the piccalilli homemade and exceptional. The soup served with croutons and toasted sourdough bread was incredibly tasty. The smoked haddock was beautifully cooked and served. The bacon chop, red cabbage and sauté potatoes had a variety of flavours which complemented each other perfectly. We chose the South African Grenache and that went well with all the dishes. We think that this was the best meal that we have had since moving to the Salisbury area two years ago.

This was our first visit. We came across it on a Google maps search for Sunday lunch meeting a family member roughly half way between Salisbury and Poole. The pub is set in an idyllic village and was very welcoming from the moment we stepped inside. The staff were very friendly and helped with allergen information for a GF member of the party. There were good choices especially the desserts which could all be offered as a GFA. It is obviously a very popular place as it was very busy. The food took a long time to arrive but this wasn’t a problem for us as we felt relaxed in the environment and could appreciate how busy it was.

The bathroom had paint falling off the walls the shower didn’t work and it didn’t look like the floor had been cleaned for a while. Plus the tiles were dirty. The food was poor, both at dinner and breakfast. The mash and veg were cold when they arrived at the table and the gravy was extremely watery and lacked flavour. The carpets in the breakfast room were stained and threadbare and the whole place looked like it needed cleaning. All in all, I would definitely not recommend.

Booked and stayed here for my partners 40th birthday with family and friends. The cottage itself was amazing. The rooms were lovely, clean and very comfy. The open plan layout was great for big groups with plenty of space. The fact it is dog friendly was even better with a lovely garden. Be cautious though as its not completely enclosed and there is a couple of gaps that dogs could escape. The museum inn next door is a great pub. Staff very friendly and welcoming and the food was good. Location wise, it was ideal. Plenty of things to do nearby. Would have no issue booking this again and would recommend.

Went for dinner only as The Museum is a local pub to us. Very pleasant service good choice on the menu. Husband had the pie a nice lot of beef inside,no leeks tho. We were told the pie would be about 30mins tho. But worth the wait I had the venison faggots, extremely tasty and cooked well. Good selection of beers sadly a couple weren’t available. Interior of the pub very welcoming nice open fire lit. The only little thing was,we wernt asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. Yes I know we could have asked. But all in all a very pleasant evening.

The Museum Inn We discovered this beautiful pub in the small village of Farnham, Dorset and is a pub under Butcombe Inns. After being warmly welcomed by both staff and locals we settled in for food and drink. The ale is a splendid pint and very quaffable, which was followed by a gin and tonic (Fevertree tonics served, and my preference). The menu was great and we opted for the homemade hummus and flatbread, The best ever hummus I've tasted (even better than Greek restaurants) and savoured every morsel. I opted for 'specials board' of venison faggots (the last time I had these at another establishment they were extremely salty and I wasn't sure if this was the norm). These were to die for, flavoursome and rich without being over powering, with homemade mashed potate and veg. My partner had the fish stew (he's not into fish) and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as it was bone-free. We met the manager Amanda who was wonderful. Very friendly and caring. Her member of staff, Julia is Polish who was attentive and kind (and can speak better English than most natives). During a break from mains to desert we had a wander. Bedrooms are available, a guests' lounge, separate breakfast room (sadly this part of the property could do with some new carpet / flooring as it was well worn and looked rather messy). Desert was spiced fruit sponged pudding with ice cream, light and very tasty (there's always room for dessert). We noted the menu was due to change soon and look forward to their next offerings. I would definately recommend coming here as this was THE best pub food I have had in a very long time, situated in a beautiful part of rural Dorset (I like to call it Dorsetshire as I think it gives it more credit), great ale, food and locals. What more can you want? (sadly the photos were taken on a camera phone and do the food justice)

Really lovely room - spacious, warm & nicely decorated - recommend. Good bathroom. Great dining & service in the evening . I’ve eaten here several times over the years & it’s always good. One comment however - breakfast billed as 8-10am. Also told this on arrival & there’s a notice at breakfast room with these times. I needed breakfast at 8am but there was no one there & room was dark. Waited for 5 mins & a staff member arrived but was not kitchen - she apologised & said she was waiting for kitchen staff to come in . No one came so I had to leave with no breakfast. So fine if you don’t have an appointment !

A disappointing experience. We all chose the mushrooms on toast with truffled ricotta, a fried egg, gremolata & Winchester cheese which sounded good. When it arrived the fried eggs on top were overcooked and solid so we reported this. We hoped the whole dish might be re-done as by the time the new eggs came the rest of it was cold. The ricotta was thick, the mushrooms were cold, there was no gremolata and very little cheese to be seen. It was cold, very dry and we all agreed it was inedible and very disappointing. The staff were very good and offered us an alternative. It did take a long time as the kitchen was busy but the replacement dishes were much better. We appreciated the way the staff dealt with this but we won’t be going back in a hurry.

We stayed there for one night and thought it was beautiful. It's British and if you expect the facilities of a 6 star hotel in Dubai - no, fortunately it's not that. It is very clean, everything has been prepared with a lot of care and is simply British. I wasn't expecting a thatched roof in the middle of England, but it was cool. The staff was genuinely friendly, without the fake smiles found in large hotel chains. The breakfast was just as lovingly prepared. It's a little out of the way, but endearing. We stayed in Moles Cottage for the weekend of my son’s wedding. The cottage is part of but next to The Museum Inn. It is an absolutely beautiful thatched cottage with all amenities needed. Each room is en-suite and towels are included. It was a perfect place for a large family wanting to experience a family event together. The only minus was that on the day of the wedding, the water would not come through hot and so most of us had to have a cold shower. The manager was apologetic and did send someone to look at it. For this reason I have only given 4 star. I would rebook though as we did have a lovely time. The cottage was dog friendly and the garden is neat and enclosed. Obviously it is an older property so comes with its own character.

The friendly welcome, smiling, warm and very attentive. The service is very professional and attentive. The very English decoration which makes you feel good. From the moment we arrived, Mel and Paolo made us feel like we were part of the family. Their warm welcome and genuine hospitality set the tone for a truly memorable weekend. The rooms were not only beautifully decorated but also incredibly comfortable and peaceful. And then there’s the food. Oh, the food! This is a hidden gem. The menu had an array of dishes that you’d expect from a high end restaurant not a village pub The breakfast, in particular, was a highlight, great ingredients and perfect hosting. What truly sets the Museum Inn apart, however, is the atmosphere. Mel and Paolo have cultivated a space that feels more like a welcoming country home than a traditional pub. Whether you’re enjoying a meal in the dining area, unwinding in the inviting guest lounge, or engaging in friendly conversation with the staff and locals, you’re constantly reminded that this is a place where your comfort and enjoyment are top priorities. In summary, the Museum Inn in Farnham offers everything you could want in a countryside escape—fantastic food, charming and comfortable rooms, and an atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Our only regret is that we live five hours away and can't return as often as we'd like!

Our first visit to the Museum Inn, Sunday Lunch. Service was excellent throughout Waiting staff knew the menu and were able to recommend and give detail on any item The food was delicious, beautifully presented and of a high standard. The atmosphere and decor of the Inn were beautiful, country homely. I would highly recommend the Museum Inn and will be back.

Friday lunch for my wifes birthday. My wife had gone with friends a few months ago and enjoyed it. We started with the mixed meze. Not a lot for the money but the big surprise was the yogurt dip which had obviously been made with a desert vanilla yogurt. The waitress agreed it smelt of vanilla but nothing was done. The cocktail we ordered was odd. The pineapple was obviously funky. Next a very greasy fish and chips with a curry sauce that was horrible, cannot describe what was wrong with it. Mushy peas just peas not mushy. My son had the ravioli. The strangest taste and texture combo and not cooked correctly. Gave up on the idea of desert. If it was cheap I would understand but at £40 per head without desert not acceptable. The place was dead on a Friday lunch which initially surprised us. Yes we should have complained but who wants to double ruin a birthday. Certainly memorable as the meal continued to repeat on us for the evening.

A wonderfully welcoming pub with the strongest sense of service possible. The food was as good as I have eaten in a foodie pub but it was the service that stood out most for me, from the moment I arrived til my departure. Frankie, Georgie and Amanda were kind, engaging and fun. Thank you.

Vale la pena el viaje en coche hasta encontrar este pequeño hostal y restaurante familiar.

This is the second time we have been here now. The first time was just for some take away chips and curry sauce. Returned a few weeks later again on the way home from the lakes and had the pensioners special (we aren’t pensioners). Perfect size if you aren’t starving. Fish was lovely with light crispy batter, lovely chips and again … their amazing curry sauce with the bits in. This place (plaice) is lovely and clean. As a lot of fish and chip places can be a bit on the grubby side so keep up the good work.
