Oh dear, what has happened to the menu! We have eaten many times here and the food has generally been consistent and the menu sensibly priced and with a good variety of dishes. Our previous visit was about 3 or 4 months ago so I assumed we would get the same or similar menu. My bad for not checking; the old menu has been replaced by pretentious French described dishes (why?!) and a huge price hike across the board. We chose the King Prawns Risotto, overpriced at £18.50. The dish was garnished with one king prawn, no more: the rice was tasty enough but the dish very poor value for money. Regrettably, we won't be returning, such a shame after an association with the hotel restaurant over many years. I suspect many people, like us, will vote with their feet. Nearby Crickhowell has much to offer on the dining front.

We popped in to the Manor for some evening food on a cold dark February night and couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The food was incredible, the service was fantastic particularly Suzanne who made us feel most welcome. A stunning building and the meal was sublime, correct portion sizes so you could enjoy the full three courses and the dessert was the best I have had in a long time! Great experience all around and will be returning with the family

How do they stay in business? Had supper there last night. The most ghastly meal I’ve ever had. It must have been leftovers. Helpful staff but this place is a travesty. The view is stunning but we spent the entire night looking for other places to eat through our binoculars.

Visited on our way back from mid Wales for an early evening meal. We know this hotel well having visited on many occasions over the years. The restaurant has a lovely view over to Pen Y Fan. We both had Cod and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it, perfectly prepared and cooked with delicious tartare sauce. Excellent service from everyone. Despite the 'Dine Out' discount we would have been happy to pay full price for our meal and will certainly return on future occasions.

Delicious meal in a gorgeous setting. A beautiful surrounding and gorgeous Christmas decorations that were lovely and welcoming. The bar area is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine too. The meal we had was delicious and our dietary requirements were catered for very well. They also have vegan options such as a vegan carrot cake and brownie and even vegan ice cream. Would really recommend this place for an meal out.

Good evening out. Main course (pork) was delicious - a chop with tenderloin pieces too. Very tasty. Sticky date dessert was a bit of a disappointment - served as a slice, barely warm with a lukewarm sauce but nice ice cream (but I ate it). Service was a little erratic - we were asked for our drinks order as soon as we reached the table (but not even had a wine list at this point). We were given 3 menus on arrival for a party of 4 with no attempt to bring another ... Seating was unstable/wonky chair syndrome. But I would give it the benefit of the doubt and try again as the party all thought the main courses were very good Lovely outlook over the Llangattock escarpment with nice grounds and a terrace area too.

Our roast beef, leg of lamb and salmon mains were all delicious, as were the vegetable sides (we particularly enjoyed the cauliflower and cheese - nice and light!!). Minestrone and ham hock starters were gorgeous as well. The only thing that was a bit of a let down and kept me from giving 5 stars was the tikka paneer starter which was a bit bland and small. Still!! A lovely setting, if the weather permits, for a pre food aperitif in the sun on the terrace. Would definitely come again!!

We returned here because the food was of outstanding quality last year. This is the only place we know that makes such a great effort to serve the best chips that they cook them THRICE! Take that, people who serve their customers soggy chips! And instead of a simple hamburger this restaurant serves the best steakburger I've ever had. Scrumptious! My wife and I also loved the red pepper and tomato soup, it was so good that my wife didn't want ketchup with her chips but used the soup instead, and that's saying something! These were only simple menu choices, really, and this place has more epicurian choices on the menu, but we enjoyed this meal so much I really don't know how it could have been more scrumptious. Highly recommended by us!

We stayed in the hotel with a dinner bed and breakfast package for six nights so experienced most of the menu, which naturally had largely the same choices most nights but with enough variation not to need repetition. The set menu offered good value and the a la carte was reasonably priced. There was a good selection of wines by the glass. It is difficult to know what to recommend. We did not experience a single "duff" course. The starters were interesting and tasty. We liked the salt and pepper squid, the Wye Valley asparagus and the ham hock terrine. For the mains, the cod fillet and the hake with some form of chowder went down well, as did the steak, cooked as requested, and a confit lamb dish. Some of the desserts could have been smaller but the summer pudding was excellent. On three or four occasions our first choice was unavailable, but the alternative offered was just as good. In a way I think that is a good sign as it suggests the ingredients are ordered in smallish quantities and frequently, so will be very fresh. It seems invidious to pick out individual items as we were well pleased with all our choices. The waiting staff were delightful, and if not perhaps up to a posh Michelin starred restaurant standard, they more than satisfied us.

Visited the manor a few weeks ago for some lunch with my wife and was disgusted by the fact my food came out freezing cold. I complained to the waitress who was a nice enough young woman who then told me she would get the manager. Along comes a woman in a black suit by the name of Claire who took the food off us but not after telling us we were in the wrong and the food came out perfect. I do not appreciate being called a liar as different people have different opinions of food. After my meal came back out was edible but looked as if it was warmed back up in the microwave. This wouldn't have been any issue at all but the manager had a terrible attitude. I have looked at previous reviews on trip advisor and found out I am not alone. As a paying customer spending over 50 pounds on my visit and potentially staying in your hotel I do not appreciate being called a liar. It has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I will be passing this information on to friends and family!!!!

Went to the Manor for Valentine's meal tonight. We were really disappointed. The soup was OK but nothing special. When our steak came they were really not up to the standard that one would expect.Full of gristle and chewy. I was in 2 minds as to whether or not to have the steak as I dislike chewy steak. However, I had previously had one at the Plas Derwen Abergavenny which was fantastic and thus I expected the Manor's to be as good or better. It wasn't!My wife's was also poor. We sent them back. The waiter came back and said chef said that they were of an acceptable standard and that no one else had complained. Maybe that was due to the fact that there was only one other couple in the restaurant and that only the man had the steak and that when his partner had asked him about it he said "it was OK. "So we were then asked what we wanted to do. My wife decided to try the rib eye whilst I decided the chicken might be a safer bet. We waited then about half an hour. The meals came the chicken was accompanied by a piece of potato about an inch square by 2 inches long no veg or anything else. My wife's steak now came with the chips already on the plate and no sauce. When she enquired about the sauce it then was produced but was a totally different colour and taste to the original which was peppercorn and brandy. The 2nd steak was as bad as the first. To cap it all they allowed a woman with 2 small children to enter the restaurant at about 7.45 .The younger child cried the whole time. So much for a romantic meal when they had another room across the bar area with tables laid up far more fitting for children to be in especially on Valentine's night. The waiter/ acting manager was lovely and apologised for his rude comments about nobody else having complained, but is clearly not up to the job of running a place with a reputation like the Manor which actually can only continue trading on that reputation for so long. Discerning customers will start to give it a wide berth as we will now do. As we were about to walk out through the door we were offered a free drink to make up for the disastrous evening! !!

Well we thought it might be nice to have Christmas meal out. We booked at the Manor and it cost £70 per head for three courses. We were given cranberry fizz on arrival. All reasonable.Main courses were:Full turkey roast which was ok. Beef roast which had burned Yorkshire pudding and not very nice beef. Whole Dover sole which was very nice but should have had some type of potatoes with it. My desert was an unimpressive Christmas pudding. The rest of the diners had chocolate torte which was nice. The service was very good and the young waitresses were very attentive. It was all let down a bit by the excessive cost for the quality that we received and the lack of front of house staff.

We booked lunch for three people at this hotel for Saturday 25 October 2014. We were celebrating my father's birthday, and had chosen The Manor specifically as he has many happy memories of meals at this hotel with my Mum when she was still alive. It was, in fact, the first place they went to as a couple for an evening out on their own after my brother and I were born. Our table was booked for 1.00 p.m. We arrived about ten minutes early, purchased drinks at the bar, and were taken through to our table. At first, everything seemed fine; we were brought the menus, placed our orders and were then brought a selection of breads. Approximately ten minutes after having placed our order the waiter returned to say that the duck which my husband had ordered was not available as they had run out of it. My husband made another selection and we settled down to wait. At 1.50 p.m., having sat in the restaurant for some considerable time with no sign of our food arriving my husband went to make enquiries as to what was happening. He was told that someone would be with us shortly. However, just after he returned to our table a party of eight people were shown into the restaurant and their food began to arrive. At this point, I myself went to make enquiries as to what was happening with regard to our food. A member of staff told me that there was a problem in the kitchen as the oven had broken down, and said that the chef was being sent out to our table to explain this to us. I asked how, if the oven had broken down, the other people's food had been cooked and served when we, by this point, had been waiting for over 45 minutes. I was told that the oven had only just broken down, and that the party of eight had placed their food order some 45 minutes previously. I stated that I personally did not think it acceptable to wait 45 minutes for food; however the staff member simply shrugged and said nothing. I stated that this was unacceptable, and asked to speak to the manager, who was not available for comment. We left without eating. This is the second time that we have had a bad experience here. On the first occasion we booked a table for two for a Saturday evening. On arrival we purchased drinks and sat in the bar, having informed the staff that we had arrived. We were left sitting there for over an hour with nobody even handing us a menu. On that occasion, when I enquired as to what was going on, I was told that the receptionist had made an error and should not have taken our booking as the hotel was catering for a wedding party and could not honour commitments to customers other than the wedding guests! Again, we left without eating. This hotel is part of a group which also owns The Castle at Llandovery, The Nant-y-Ffin Cider Mill at Crickhowell and Peterstone Court, Brecon. We had a truly fabulous experience when we rented a cottage at Peterstone Court and ate Christmas lunch in their restaurant in December 2011; I cannot believe that these two properties are owned and managed by the same people! The Manor is tired, down at heel and in dire need of refurbishment. Intensive staff training would not go amiss either. On the two occasions when we have visited (detailed above) the reception desk has been unmanned, with guests having to wander the hotel to find staff. Thoroughly amateur, and with no regard to customer service whatsoever.

Stopped here for late afternoon drinks and early evening meal. The views from here are beautiful and the weather enabled us to sit out side. We moved to the restaurant to eat. The decor and place is very nice and well worth the visit. The service and food was good too , but the rating is four only due to serving the wrong pie off the menu, which was a shame and cast a bit of a disappointment as everything else was very good. Will be back.....

On Saturday 14t December 8 of us attended a Christmas dinner dance at the Manor Hotel Crickhowell and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was a food and dance inclusive package. The food was standard Christmas fare but well cooked and presented. The service from the staff was excellent. The DJ was fantastic and played songs for all ages and kept the dance floor full from start to finish. We will definitely return next year for our annual get together.Brian Cole - Shevington

Very good meal that probably deserves a 4.5, but I think that nowhere is perfect (5 star). We had the set menu available lunch mon-frio and evening sun-thur: 2 courses for £15 and 3 for £17.50, which includes a glass of wine. Please note that menu on www is a sample. From 'sample', I expected to have main and desert (sticky toffee pudding or cheesecake), but deserts on day not to my taste, so had deep fried brie to start and pork belly for main. Quality and quantity was good: I have had smaller mains in a few places than my starter here. Staff were very good, although not many people eating so cannot say how good service would be if crowded. Wonderful location, with great views over vally from dining room.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
