Review is based on a visit for food and not a stay. Popped in for an evening meal here with a friend. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful right from the start. For starters had classic whitebait which was lovely, especially the dipping sauce that came with it. For main I ordered a chicken and bacon enchilada, only issue was it wasn't really an enchilada, basically a chicken and bacon in some sort of cream, in a wrap with cheese grilled on top, way too much cream and not a sniff of tomato anywhere, real shame. Thankfully dessert made up for it, a lovely sticky toffee pudding that was light, flavourful and not too sweet with a lovely custard. Shame about the enchilada as I'd been craving a proper one for days, and still craving it now. Worth a visit still.

We stayed here 1 night as part of hiking Offa's Dyke. The room was small for the very large bed. The bathroom was a couple steps down and larger than many of the bathrooms during our stay. Whoever said the WiFi is hopeless was accurate as it never worked during our stay. The beer and food at the restaurant was all very good and the sticky toffee pudding was the perfect finish to a long day hiking. There are ear plugs provided because the patio seating is right below the rooms. But we were too tired to notice any noise and fell right to sleep.

The pub is very racist and anti-English, I went in with my family and asked if they were still serving food. The barman wiping a glass just looked at me for ages without saying a word, and eventually just shook his head, the pub was full of workmen and everyone went deadly quiet. After the embarrassment and humiliation of the encounter I decided to leave, A lovely old gentleman must have taken pity, grabbed my leg and kindly said the restaurant was at the bottom as we were walking out. He was a customer and treated us so much kinder than the barman who was just horrible for no reason. We only went the restaurant due to being so hungry. The staff in the restaurant itself were very accommodating and friendly and the food was lovely! It’s just a shame that the experience we had in the pub was disgraceful

The staff member serving us was clearly tipsy and openly admitted to having had a few drinks. They were friendly enough but we felt something wasn’t quite right. We soon noticed the utter state of some of the locals who were beyond drunk and behaving in a totally awful manner. This made us feel very uncomfortable. This place looks like a sweet country pub but it’s actually a bit rough. Would not recommend.

A cut above your average hotel. Large and comfortable room with windows that actually opens! Large double bed with quality pillows. Traffic passes directly under window but is fairly quiet after 9.00pm. (Ear plugs are provided in room!) Good size bathroom/shower that has decent water pressure. Tea/coffee facilities are available in the room. WiFi was hopeless (maybe due to the thick stone walls). Very pleasant and friendly staff (was permitted to check in prior to the advertised time). Good cooked breakfast available from 8.00am.

Knighton is the perfect place to explore Offah’s Dyke. But it is not blessed with an abundance of hotels. So my friends and I were delighted to find the Horse and Jockey. It’s a delightful, reasonably priced country inn situated right in the heart of this historic town. Staff are charming, friendly and helpful in all settings. There is a very pleasant restaurant with a great choice of reasonably priced food and drink. Meals can also be taken in the cosy bar. Rooms well appointed. All in all a very nice place to explore this wonderful part of Wales.

'The Jockey' is a 'local' for us and we're privileged to have it conveniently close: we are reasonably regular visitors. Service is always good, good-natured, friendly and courteous. The food is decent quality pub grub; not haute cuisine, but then nor are the prices. The menu is not huge but caters for most tastes as well as featuring daily specials alongside old favourites. We arrived early afternoon to what we thought was a pleasant country pub but dont be fooled by the pubs appearance .once inside its nothing but appauling witnessing bar staff openly telling customers they had cosummed alcohol before there shift and couldn't wait to take drugs when others arrived. This was just the start the swearing shouting and behaviour from customers was just awfull . To then witness a sexual act in the toilets (early evening when more than acceptable for child to be present ) this was made awear to the young bar lady who had no idea how to deal with the situation who become so disstressed and out of her depths to deal with any altercation no mangement to be seen and other bar members to intoxicated to care. We left and will not be returning to such a disgusting place

We had a great family reunion here at lunchtime with tasty reasonably priced food in the restaurant which everyone enjoyed. Many of us went to the bar area afterwards for a drink and chat, this was also very pleasant. The staff were helpful and friendly. All went very well during the day, unfortunately three of us has booked to stay the night. The rooms were great, clean and comfortable, but they were above the bar and patio area and the noise from the patio area especially, was dreadful- drinkers shouting, swearing and kicking the patio furniture until midnight as well as loud music blaring out, I don’t know if this happens on a regular basis, but it prevented us from sleeping until very late at night! I'm not one that takes pictures of my meals or tells the world where I've dined - but this was simply marvellous. We had a Christmas meal with a large group of friends, and it was absolutely lovely. I can’t fault the food (everyone enjoyed what they had) and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended! The only reason I have given a 4- rather than 5- rating is because of the really poor choice of vegan food. I nearly didn’t go because the only offering on the menu was arancini, which is what I would expect as a starter, not a main meal. A message to ask if other options could be offered resulted in a suggestion of nut loaf, which was much more acceptable, and turned out to be probably the best I have ever had, so I really don’t know why it wasn’t on the menu. I didn’t have a dessert because there didn’t appear to be a vegan option. It would be wonderful if the obviously excellent chef could offer more vegan/vegetarian food, because I would certainly be a regular visitor if there was better availability - which must be true of a lot of people. Without last night’s experience, I’d just look at the menu and go elsewhere, which would be a real shame.

We ate Sunday Lunch here just 2 days ago (26th September) and I have to say it was excellent. We've recently moved to the area and a friend who lives in Kinsham took us here for lunch. The service was first class, the food both well cooked and presented. Not to mention very generous portions. As a restauranteur myself (having owned 12 various establishments over the past 35 years) I do appreciate good food and service when I receive such. I can also be quite critical if such things are not of a good standard. Suffice it to say I would recommend this establishment to everyone. In fact we are returning there for Dinner this evening.

Had 2 very nice meals whilst staying here. The sea bass was excellent and we also enjoyed the halloumi burger and the salmon. Also good choice of tasty desserts. Staff were friendly and accommodating and service was excellent. Very pleasant courtyard, although a bit noisy on a Saturday night.

Had a very good meal here. We had a bit of a wait for food, but we were advised there was a delay when we arrived. Food was very good when it arrived and plenty of it.

Staying in Knighton with our dogs in tow. The pub is ideal as it has nice tables in the courtyard. Food was good and they adapted a dish for my partners dietary requirements. XXX ales was good.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!
