Average at best. £12.50 for 4 prawns on skewers as a sharing plate. The Moroccan chicken skewers with Cous Cous was below par and although presented relatively well it did not lend itself to the so called exciting dishes as advertised! The menu choices are not good and quite frankly sparse. The choice of desserts was disheartening, although reasonably priced. The drinks are expensive £3.50 for a half of Coke and £10 for a glass of wine is quite honestly too much. The Good friendly service from the front of house staff can’t be faulted. Average food at an above average price. Will definitely NOT be going back.

On a gloomy, damp Saturday afternoon, four of us decided to walk up to the Queens Oak for a drink and some fresh air. As we arrived I noted the snug bar was very busy... and then found the few tables in the immediate larger bar were all taken. However, the further tables in the rest of the larger bar side were entirely free. I noted that most, but not all, were laid with knives and forks. Not wanting to make any assumptions, I politely asked "we are only planning to stay for one drink, would it be OK if we sit down for a short while?" but received a curt response: "No they are all laid for dinner this evening!" That was it -> no friendliness, no alternatives or follow up, just blunt NO. It was 3pm in the afternoon. Not only that, at least one round table in that area wasn't laid at all. We just looked at each other astonished... and left quietly, with our tails between our legs and shocked at the bluntness of the response. I acknowledge if the staff at the pub do not want local, casual drinkers to sit in that area at any time (in this case 3pm in the afternoon) then that is their prerogative. I'll know not to visit again. There's not much point in visiting a pub if there is no hospitality - it's far cheaper to remain at home and get a drink from the fridge.

Today's lunch at Brown & Forrest Smokery was nothing short of exceptional – a true five-star culinary experience in the heart of Langport. The quaint and inviting ambience of the smokery provided the perfect setting for a delightful catch-up with a friend. Choosing from the menu was a pleasure, knowing that whatever the selection, satisfaction was guaranteed. My choice, the Tuna Mayonnaise Bap, was a triumph of flavours. The bap was generously packed with succulent, flavorful tuna, beautifully complemented by a creamy mayonnaise that tied the whole experience together. Each bite was a testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients used. My friend's Full English Bap was a sight to behold—laden with a hearty combination of sausage, egg, bacon, and mushrooms. It was more than a bap; it was a celebration of traditional English breakfast components, all brought together in a convenient and no less delicious form. The culinary journey didn't end with the mains. I couldn't resist purchasing some of their sugar-free biscuits, a sweet endnote to look forward to. The thought of relishing those biscuits later added an extra layer of joy to an already splendid visit. It’s not just the food that deserves applause but also the service. The staff at Brown & Forrest Smokery were as warm as the food was delectable, contributing to a relaxed and friendly dining atmosphere that's hard to come by. In conclusion, if you find yourself in the area and in need of a comforting and satisfying meal, make your way to Brown & Forrest Smokery. Whether it’s for the packed-full baps, the sweet treats, or just the welcoming vibe, this smokery is sure to provide an enjoyable, delicious experience. I’m eagerly looking forward to my next meal here and would heartily recommend it to anyone with an appreciation for fine, hearty fare.

Regrettably this place has gone right downhill. The young serving staff were all absolutely lovely but there were times when they needed some leadership/guidance. Despite the place being half empty (on a Saturday night!) there was some disorganisation. I had to send a pint back because it tasted of vinegar. This is very, very worrying because it means the beer lines are dirty and infected with bacteria that produces acetic acid (vinegar). Again this points to a lack of leadership. Is there no line-cleaning routine in place? Is no-one making sure it gets done? Is no-one tasting what comes out of the pumps before serving it to paying customers? The vegan offer used to be really good here but it has shrunk. There was a "plant-based burger" but it came as a soggy mess. Cheap patties made from spuds and peas, rather than a textured meat substitute. It tasted like a Linda McCartney burger. When I go out for a meal, I want two things. A nice pint and a good vegan offer. This place used to have both those things, but I'm sorry to say it now it has neither. I'm afraid we won't be back.
