Average at best. £12.50 for 4 prawns on skewers as a sharing plate. The Moroccan chicken skewers with Cous Cous was below par and although presented relatively well it did not lend itself to the so called exciting dishes as advertised! The menu choices are not good and quite frankly sparse. The choice of desserts was disheartening, although reasonably priced. The drinks are expensive £3.50 for a half of Coke and £10 for a glass of wine is quite honestly too much. The Good friendly service from the front of house staff can’t be faulted. Average food at an above average price. Will definitely NOT be going back.

Superb Sunday lunch. We were a table of 8 and the service was amazing and the food stunning, big portions and a classic roast based upon locally sourced produce and elegantly presented. Definitely will return and sample the other delicious menu options. Kinga was a great hostess and the wine selections suggested delicious and priced fantastically

Firstly, let me say that most of the dishes we were served were tasty and our waitress was pleasant and friendly, however the tempura veg was a disaster (apart from the dipping sauce accompaniment which was delicious). A tempura batter should be light and crisp but this was thick, hard and bordering on inedible ( we did, in fact leave most of it). The scallops were just a bit tiny, forlorn and overpriced. Out of the three desserts ordered only one (sticky toffee pudding and ice cream) came as described on the menu. The ice cream that came with the blonde was not honeycomb or at least no version of honeycomb any of us had ever come across and whatever the “crumb” was that accompanied the panna cotta it was very definitely not Biscoff as advertised. Importantly, I should say all three were yummy, just not what it said on the tin. As I don’t believe in giving a less than excellent review without saying something at the time and giving the establishment a chance to put things right, apologise or give their rebuttal I told our waitress that the tempura veg was very disappointing and again, after the desserts that they were not what we expected but we got no response apart from a sort of “oh, that’s a shame” sad face. The wine was excellent and good value at £30 but, wine apart, for the prices being charged their customers deserve better.

I'd had tacos and nachos with guacamole from the Gastronomy food stall at The Isle of Wight garlic festival on Saturday. They were fresh, flavourful and delicious. We visited Cowes today (Sunday) and on the basis of my positive experience with Gastronomy food yesterday, decided to try out their Sunday roast. I had the roast chicken. The staff we're friendly, welcoming and attentive. Our meals arrived in good time, well presented and looked very appetising. All of the elements were excellent, greens cooked al dente, roasted carrots and parsnips, lovely crunchy/fluffy roasties, and the chicken meat was amazingly soft and succulent. Really glossy, tasty gravy, all topped off with a giant Yorkshire pudding, and a side of lovely, tasty cauliflower cheese. I would highly recommend Gastronomy.

This is in a great location on the High Street and easy to find as you wander around Cowes. The decor is very well done with a nice and relaxed rustic style, with nice steel topped tables as well as some very comfy padded seating for some of the tables. We popped in for brunch on the middle of the week so it wasn’t overly busy although there was a steady flow of customers coming and going during our visit. I wanted to try the breakfast bao buns but sadly these were not available so opted for the Croque Madame option. My partner chose the Coconut French Toast. The coffee here is excellent and they have a proper espresso machine behind the bar which was excellent. The food arrived in reasonable time (cooked to order) and was very well presented. My Croque Madame consisted of two hefty slices of toasted sourdough with melted cheese & prosciutto ham, all topped off with a fried egg! Tasted great but just wish the fried egg had been runny! A healthy portion which was delicious. The Coconut French Toast was heaped with fresh strawberries and plenty of the coconut cream. This was also delicious according to my partner. At just under £30 for brunch it was very good and we will certainly be back to try something else, hopefully from their main menu as some of the options on there look very tempting. 👍

We had tried and failed to visit this restaurant previously, but it only opens for lunch at weekends. Furthermore, Sunday lunchtimes are only Sunday Roasts, so if you want to try the normal menu at lunchtime then Saturday is your only option! So, on a Saturday in October four of us visited for lunch and it was superb. The ambiance is lovely (and quite unique in what is an otherwise dated Cowes) and the young lady serving us was welcoming, friendly and efficient throughout. We were all intrigued by the ‘Bao Buns’ so had them as a starter. Absolutely gorgeous. We all had different mains and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed them. 10/10. We will be back in February when next on the island.

We were only on IoW for 5 nights and I had done some reviews for places to stay. I hadn't read up on this place but so glad we were impromptu and booked. We had booked to go to another restaurant the previous day and that was very disappointing after quite good reviews and we passed Gastronomy on the way out. It looked a fun place and the food looked good too. It was and we would love there to be a Gastronomy on the main land but there isn't so we shall have to return to IoW and revisit. We started with an Asian pork filled Bao Bun - first time to this and it was delicious. Then we copied the couple next to us who told us what they had picked as it looked so good - a bit of a tapas type meal with a range of different things to eat - a great idea if you don't fancy a steak alone. We had prawns, lamb kofta, chicken balls, arancini, Korean chips (OMG!!) and a cocktail, beer and two glasses of wine for £70 which was not cheap but the food, atmosphere and whole evening was worth it.

I had ribs with coleslaw and chips. The ribs were so meaty I struggled to finish but they were very tasty and hubby really enjoyed his meal. We had a nice evening until I (a female) asked for the bill. I put my card on the bill, then the sexist staff asked if I wanted to wait for my husband to return to pay the bill. REALLY!!! In this day and age are you still of the belief that the man should pay for everything? I work hard for my money and for a waiter to decide my husband should pay is really annoying. I’m giving a high rating because the food was lovely but you really need to have a word with your sexist staff about how to take payment, is it really too much to ask a question, “who is paying tonight?” That is unoffensive and doesn’t make assumptions.

Many restaurants on the island were either closed, doing only takeaway trade or fully booked as lockdown eased. We were fortunate to get a table but were not entirely sure what to expect. First impressions were good as tables were 'socially distant' and the staff were welcoming despite face coverings! The menu was short and simple, and for starters, we shared some scallops and prawns, both fresh and delicious. We all went for their rib-eye steak served with chips and a salad. Despite different preferences on how we wanted the steak served (rare to well-done), all came cooked to perfection. The chips were just superb - crisp on the outside, soft in the middle - and would rival many we have eaten at high-end restaurants. A very satisfying meal indeed.

Fancied a roast before heading home and we came across Gastronomy. Liked the way it looked so I did a quick google on tripadvisor to just check the place (As I always do). One person wrote - best roast on the island. My husband and I joked yeah yeah well I’m sure it’s ok and it’ll do as we were pressed for time. We both had the pork. Well.....we have roasts most sundays and eat all over London trying to find a roast we don’t end up criticising!! There is always something to criticise on a roast. Well not this one!!!!!!!!! Oh my, it was AMAZING!!!! The pork was lovely, the crackling was crispy, roast potatoes and roast veg was tasty and well cooked. The Yorkshire was huge and more importantly - cooked through!!! So many serve up big yorkies but they’re doughy inside. The roast also came with this wonderful shallot purée!! It was soooo nice. A side of cauliflower cheese was also given to us!! In London you will pay £17 easily for a pork roast and an extra £5 for a cauli cheese side. This was £13.50 all in!! Unbelievable. I’m so sad we can’t come here again. Well we will if we come to the IOW but if this was in London the search would be over and we could just happily come here every Sunday. Service was friendly too. Only slight gripe was after about 15 -20 mins of us finishing , I had to ask for our plates to be taken. That’s quite a long time to have dirty plates all around you when you want to relax and finish your drinks. The place wasn’t busy at all so not sure the reason for this. Restaurant very covid aware. All procedures in place, very good. RECOMMEND HERE WITHOUT A DOUBT. 5*

My boyfriend and I live locally to gastronomy and do visit quite a bit for their amazing cocktails, but what we most love about it is the food! I celebrated my 20th birthday there a few weeks ago with a group of friends - service was great and food was perfection as always. Their sunday roasts are delicious and always filling (my boyfriend has to finish my plate because i get so full haha) and it’s served with this amazing shallot purée (which we always ask for extra of). Would highly recommended getting a group of friends and trying the small plates. The steak bites are my favourite along with the Korean chilli and cheese fries but there’s so much to choose from it could fill up a big group and leave space for some delicious cocktails (or deep fried bao nuts which, i think are genius). If that’s not enough then the atmosphere will definitely sway you. Calm, friendly, warm - absolutely massive sofa. Anyway I can’t recommend it enough go check it out.

I have eaten in many restaurants on and off the island and I have to say that Gastronomy is my favourite. The choice of food and the way it is executed is sublime. Everything down to their garnishes matches their dishes perfectly. My personal favourite is the quesadillas. They have a well stocked bar offering quality cocktails (but always accommodate me asking for a random off the menu cocktail and they hit the spot every time). We went for a family Sunday lunch, and it was obvious from the start that the staff seemed to struggle with a large group. We could not all sit together and I was sat on a separate table with my back to the rest of our group which was quite unsatisfactory. The tables could have easily been re-arranged but this seemed too much trouble. It took an eternity to take our drinks orders and even longer for food. The wine I ordered wasn’t available (Malbec) and so I requested a Tempranillo instead. I was then told twice more that there was no Malbec available! I fully understand that it is difficult for a kitchen to produce food for a large group that hasn’t pre-ordered so I don’t think it’s fair to comment on the time taken for meals to arrive - in fact I was surprised how well they did - until I discovered my burger was raw! It was completely pink and slimy - smothered in pulled pork and sickly sweet BBQ sauce. No one was checking our table so I carried my plate to the bar where I politely informed the staff my burger wasn’t cooked. The staff were very helpful and sent it immediately back to the kitchen to be re-done.Another burger arrived in a relatively short time, it was much better but still slightly pink. The staff earned big “brownie points” because they let all guests pay separately at the bar which saved the awful stress of splitting the bill - this was really helpful as our group had ordered many different items and there were children who’d had no alcoholic drinks etc. I wish more places would work like this with group bills! On the whole though it was disappointing, we all thought that it would have been good if they’d offered a roast dinner on Sundays - but none was available. Service was very slow and a little disorganised- but I must stress the staff were all very friendly and helpful. I think they may perform much better with smaller groups as other reviews might suggest, but unfortunately on our visit it was disappointing.

Cowes, mecca of yachting, feeds hungry fit crews throughout the summer. Trying a relatively new place in a part-deserted High Street, Gastronomy, earlier this summer, it had a good menu and nice decoration. Oh dear. Slow and casual service. Seemingly disinterested staff. Not the cleanest cutlery, or table top. All demonstrated shoddy front-of-house management. BUT a slightly hard home-made burger which showed slightly pink in the middle, of unusual consistency - "No, that's normal, sir" - left my wife and I with upset stomachs for 24 hours. Time to sharpen your act

I was in Cowes for two nights and though there are plenty of restaurants in Cowes after my first visit there was really only one place I was going to on the second night. The first night I met up with a friend who lives on the island and had been here before and we both had wonderful bao buns, one with chicken, one with tofu along with the stunning halloumi fries. The food was delicious and the service was so good too, really friendly and helpful and they were prepared to adjust things slightly to meet dietary requirements and all credit to them for that. The second night I went back for more of the same as I was so impressed with my first visit and it lived up to the previous nights standard. Interesting selection of specials available too and plenty of choice for all dietary requirements. As I said the service was great and we did not have to wait long for the food and good value for money too.

Excellent and unexpectedly so. Garlic and haloumi tacos; chicken and apricot skewers; chilli tofu bao; Isle of Wight lager. Salted caramel baonut with ice cream. Donut! Remarkable meal for less than a pub hamburger last night.

We went to celebrate my birthday. We were seated in the bar area right by the bar, not a nice table. Thankfully we managed to move into the restaurant.

We stopped for dinner on our way through Cowes. The food here was great! The menu isn’t huge but enough options to suit everyone. The pork bao buns were excellent. The staff were fantastic and very accommodating, my partner has a nut allergy and the menu choice he wanted had nuts on the side. The waiter checked that this was just a garnish and could be left out of the finished dish which was great. It makes a difference when a place cares about your needs. Food arrived quickly and tasted great. Big portion sizes too! We enjoyed the food so give this place a go.

We visited Gastronomy this week whilst on holiday on The Island. The location and atmosphere were superb. Whilst providing a beautiful dining setting, the restaurant was also very family friendly. From the moment we walked in the staff were friendly and thoroughly attentive. Even our very fussy four year old was catered for with a smile. The food was absolutely delicious, and the presentation was outstanding. Without doubt the best bread I have ever eaten! And all made on the premises! It was so hard to choose from the menu that I opted for multiple small plates. They did not disappoint. It’s safe to say we left every plate empty! We are returning to the island in 3 weeks and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend to couples/families/individuals/anyone that enjoys a good meal in a comfortable yet beautiful setting.

Having a decent roast dinner in a restaurant/pub is rare, I can always cook better at home. This was the exception, it lived up to its reputation and was the best roast dinner I've eaten out. Will be back, and certainly worth the ferry trip across.

We tried to book a table on Saturday for four at 20.00 hrs but were told that a table was not available until 20.15 or earlier at 19.15. However when we arrived at 20.00 there were several tables available! Not sure what the problem was with a 20.00 table.

Had the opportunity to visit Gastronomy for Sunday lunch and had the choice of Roast Pork, Beef or Chicken. I chose the Pork, which was served with a selection of vegetables, Yorkshire Pud and Cauliflower Cheese, followed by a choice of desert and a coffee. Compliments to the Chef's and other staff in the kitchen, well done, no complaints about the food, cooked perfectly and well presented on the plate. The ambiance of an establishment is extremely important, Gastronomy has a warm, friendly feel, plenty of character and you can watch the world pass from your table. And now to the all important asset in any restaurant - the staff. Sarah is a credit to your staff, very pleasant, polite and professional.

Had dinner with friends for their birthday and it seemed like every dish was OK but a little more thinking through would make a real difference. Wife had the prawn starter and couldn't take the prawns for paprika, thai vegetable spring rolls appeared to only contain one type of veg and again overwhelmed by single flavour.. No depth. Burger was placed on top of a very cold large slice of beef tomato resulting in a cold and unappetising pattie. Thai curry very watery. The annoying thing really is each dish could have been much more (and therefore worth the price) had these simple issues been addressed. Nice decor and excellent front of house staff. Good cocktail selection - though unfortunately not sampled.

I went with my husband for a Sunday roast, the beef was the best I have ever had in a restaurant, cooked to perfection. I also had a Palma Violet cocktail which was gorgeous. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Will not be back there, staff are rude and would not accept any responsibility for messing up an order that they had written down wrong. I did not appreciate being tutted and sighed at when i brought it to their attention that a medium cooked steak was actually Rare. Waited 50 minutes on a meal for two when there was only roughly 13 people in the restaurant at the time, i don’t think it’s reasonable... The steak was served rare so i can’t see what they were doing for all that time?

This for me was mostly about the staff. What a lovely group of people. We were a group of ladies of a certain age, away for our book club weekend. Yes we do read the book but also like to explore, eat and drink.

A Gastronomical experience today. I love this little fusion of urban industrial meets maritime. The decor is fitting to the incredible taste journey. We sampled 3 courses and finished each one. Wherever you are reading this, book a table. Totally worth it. I am picky so I would ask if the blue Chester back bar chair could be cleaned more regularly as there was food in the grooves.

We popped in for happy hour and ended up returning for diner. The cocktails were good although they'd run out of blueberries so did raspberries gin cocktails instead. They were lovely but we did then spy a waiter bringing Sainsbury blueberries back from down the street an hour later! The quality of some of the cocktails seemed to also depend on the person who made them; not consistent between rounds. The sea bass was well cooked and served with an Asian salad; really tasty. The risotto was a little heavy but the tacos and halloumi fries went down well. The staff were very friendly and fun and helped make the evening.

Sounds a strange combination but don’t miss it! Most enjoyable evening at this restaurant where all the food choices were great - beautifully freshly cooked and generous portion size. Delicious Mayfly Sauvignon Blanc really complemented the food too. Definitely a great addition to Cowes restaurants.

We were really pleased to find a table here on a busy Saturday night and were greeted by a smile from a friendly waiter. We were shown to our table and given a menu which was fairly limited but still had some interesting dishes to choose from. Our waiter was very helpful when we discussed allergens with him and we we didn't wait very long for our food to arrive. We went for the sharing plates and unfortunately the chicken skewers were undercooked when we cut into them (My husband had actually eaten some before I noticed). This spoiled our evening somewhat and although the waiter was very apologetic and refunded us for that dish, we spent the rest of the meal worrying that we might be ill the next day! They only had 2 desserts on the menu and had already sold out of one (at 8.30pm) but the bonfire brownie we chose was delicious. We couldn't fault the service and the ambience was great. It's just a shame they couldn't get the basics right. Would have been 5 stars without the raw chicken!

The food is an interesting mix of mainly Mexican and Asian that didn't always work for me. Main courses were substantial and not too badly priced but the sharing plates worked out rather expensive. The moral is don't listen to your waiter's suggestion as to number of plates needed. They are quite generous in size and we definitely over ordered. Staf were firednky and very obligng even on a busy first day of Cowes week.
