The Waterfront Bar & Restaurant in Isle of Wight

This is one of the hidden gems in this area. It's just next to sea 🌊 and you can enjoy the traditional fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 and a variety of drinks 🍸- can't expect anything more. The atmosphere 👌 is amazing - plenty of seating spaces inside and outside 😀 👌. The staff members are friendly and accommodating. The whole area is beautiful 😍 and can't ask for anything more to visit seaside and have food. Highly recommend 👌

Fantastic staff, view & food really worth a visit 😁

I stumbled across this place because I could not get into The Hut at Colwell Bay, however, I am sooo glad I did, the food was excellent, the service superb and the views even better than the Hut, The Ambiance is absolutely lovely and I will definitely be putting this on my go to list every time I am back on the Island, thank you, it was a lovely evening, thank you for looking after us so well.

A really nice restaurant, and lovely food great value for money.

Locals on the island and decided to go out for a meal as we heard it was a nice location . Food was just average pub grub imo but what I’m most disheartened about is the service I received . Me and my partner asked for a seat near the window as my son likes to look out at the ocean . We was told all the tables had been fully booked only to see 5 minutes later a couple with a baby get seated by a window with no booking at all. The atmosphere felt very judgey and I certainly will not be returning and will be posting my experience to the side work I do reviewing restaurants

1 star as the website gives the option between booking a table at the restaurant or the bar. Despite selecting the restaurant area at the time of booking, we were placed in a corner by the bar near to the toilet, on the day of the appointment. We decided to leave as a result of this. On our way out, the staff started making up excuses and even queried why we were leaving - look if you could not guarantee a table in the restaurant area when you give the option on your website, we couldn't guarantee dinning in, as simple as that.

I thought £9 for a small jacket with beans was disgusting with a tiny pot of slaw, myself and frien both had tge same so £18 seemed alot of money fir two spuds , not even any salad garnish and NO CHEESE, as I just remembered it should of had cheese on too,I live here and usually come now and again as its a beautiful place but not happy with the food or espence.

Efficient online booking. Staff were very friendly. Our drinks and food order were taken soon after arriving and we were served our food within 15 minutes of arriving. Food was excellent quality. Would definitely return again.

We found this place by chance after visiting the Needles. It turned out to be an excellent discovery. This is a lovely restaurant right on the water. There is a good selection of beer on tap and a decent wine list. The food was generally very good: both the fish & chips and scampi & chips were delicious, though my son was a bit disappointed by his burger. Prices were very reasonable; service was friendly and attentive.

Nice little place for lunch on Isle of Wight. Staff did question if we made a reservation as they were busy. But I looked around znd only 50% full but they did manage to feed us a light lunch.

Staff were friendly. Good location to watch the sunset on a clear night. Didn't have a main but was tempted for dessert, I had the chocolate brown, and mum went for sticky toddee pudding, was well presented and delicious. Dog friendly 😀

Eaten here a couple of times now & each time the food has been excellent. Friendly helpful staff & a very relaxed atmosphere. Nice to see that almost half the restaurant is dog friendly. Great choice on the menu & caters for allergies & vegans too. Recommended booking in advance.

We only stopped here for coffee. The place is right on the front, and the menu looks nice.

Gorgeous setting and delicious food with friendly staff. We ordered the Thai green curry with Tiger Prawns; Sea Bass with mushroom risotto; and Lasagne. I even got a little finger bowl to clean my fingers when peeling all the prawns. We should’ve perhaps stopped there ;) but we couldn’t resist the puddings: sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice-cream; and a warm chocolate brownie with honeycomb ice-cream and white chocolate sauce. And so we ‘rolled out’ about 2 hours later very satisfied and having been entertained by a sunset over the sea, a dramatic high tide (spotlit from the restaurant) and a good selection of music from 70s-90s playing at the bar. We were seated next to the windows facing the sea which was beautiful and a little quieter - perfect for my hard of hearing parents. Parking is incredibly convenient right next to the restaurant (you drive along the promenade part way) so we didn’t have to ‘roll’ far! (By the way: it’s dog friendly and some people go there just for drinks which makes for a lively atmosphere…but still manages to pull off being a refined restaurant! Incredible combo. We went on a Friday night at 6-8pm, a week before Easter).

I have no idea what the food or drinks are like as we didn’t get served, acknowledged or even looked at! There were four staff, one just seated the only two other customers. We stood, then saw the sign saying order drinks at the bar. Still nobody took any notice after four minutes walked out. Sometimes it just takes a non verbal acknowledgment, using computer or cleaning glasses obviously prevents that!

Visited for my birthday to have dinner with my partner, and it was a lovely experience. Right from the very beginning, the staff were warm and very welcoming - recommended dishes on the menu and was very efficient! I received a cute surprise candle in my dessert, with happy birthday sung by the staff. I highly recommend - the food is full of flavour with great presentation. Would definitely recommend and also return myself!

Sad to say I've never given such a low review before, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it!! The place has an odd atmosphere and attitude towards customers. We were thinking about eating, but wanted a drink to start with, and was told that we couldn't sit near the windows with the amazing views unless we were eating!!! MOST OF THE TABLES WERE EMPTY!!! The staff seemed a little arrogant and the the place had a pompous atmosphere with ideas way above it's station. CUSTOMER IS KING. Not a friendly welcoming feeling unlike the Gossips cafe, where we ended up.

Arrived just after noon with two dogs. Slightly concerned that they were closed as the entrance was being power showered! Not an ideal start but thereafter every thing was fine. Friendly efficient service and good food. Will return, and recommend.

Dropped in for lunch. We were given a great table by a seaview window. Superb choice of dishes, showing imagination and flair on the part of the chef. Everything freshly cooked. Good portions. Service discreet yet attentive, from the very agreeable staff. We much enjoyed our meal and left a sizeable tip. One small comment: on sunny days it is very warm in the window seats and an open window would have been welcome. We should have asked.

We eat here quite often - the food and service are consistently excellent. The specials, which change on a daily basis, are always imaginative and well presented. There are meat, seafood and vegetarian options aplenty, with dishes to suit each all palettes. The mussel chowder on the current menu is sensational and it’s worth visiting The Waterfront just to try this! Every member of the staff team is friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, which creates a comfortable and relaxed dining atmosphere each and every time we visit. The views of the sea are unmatched - it feels like you are on a boat such is the closeness of the water. You are sure to witness magical sunsets and awesome wave shows depending on the weather! Thank you to the whole team here - both kitchen staff and front of house work together to create a great dining experience. We always look forward to dining here.

Superb Roast on Sunday! We had a new years visit for the weekend over new year and visited everyday attests for drinks. The roast was divine! Greeted by lovely staff, our requests for a large table and children was executed providing plastic cutlery also for our toddler. Staff were very happy and helpful there’s an air of good team spirit we witnessed a lot between staff - it’s a great atmosphere to be around. Service was paced great not rushed nor slow. Just right. The portions were amazing and to taste food that evidently is not just bought but fresh and for some items such as the brownie for dessert we were informed was made and baked freshly from the WF kitchen - we could tell from the taste! Prices are very fair especially with the portion sizes! The restaurant has beautiful views even when the waves are crashing! and a real family vibe with well behaved fur friends who visit in the dog friendly area too! A truly lovely visit, a hidden gem tucked away in Totland bay. Not to be missed.

Food has gone dramatically down hill, four of us went for a meal and three of us had poor meals that were worth even 1/2 the money, unfortunately won’t be eating there again unless they get a better chef.

Went for the Christmas Dinner menu, and the food was excellent. The service was good.

Only gave this one star rating because you can’t give a Zero rating - food was five star but the service was shocking from start to finish. What a thoroughly miserable bunch of female staff, not one of them capable of a smile or a please or a thank you between them. We felt harassed throughout our meal, at one point 2 members of staff hovering wanting to know if we wanted dessert. Dinner was served by Lucy either slamming the plate down or sliding it across the table. Our friend had to go to bar to ask for the bill and we went from being harassed all evening to being ignored - in the end I went up and asked if they actually wanted our money. I then said in the 7 years we have been going there we have never experienced such terrible service which was met with a shrug and couldn’t care less attitude - we only live down the road but we won’t be going back in a hurry - there are plenty of places in West Wight that serve equally good food but have brilliant staff.

Good food and really welcoming staff. Also very dog friendly. In a lovely location overlooking the beach. There is parking available. Wheelchair accessible. There is a good outside area in nice weather. Recommended.

We had a lovely meal. Accommodating staff, lovely food. Camembert starter was great. Steak tender and plentiful. Smokie was great. Could’ve done with slightly less leek and a bit more haddock, but we left full.

Delicious seafood in a beautiful setting with a view of the ocean and hurst castle from our table. Managed our party of 10 admirably. Great menu for kids too with plenty of options. Really kind staff that went the extra mile, even posting a jacket back to us that was left behind! We’ll be back!

Food was really nice, good choice of beers and the location down by the water is hard to beat. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only suggestion is it would be nice to see bottles of condiments provided rather than sachets.

A beautiful location for a drink, but it was spoiled by a lack of service. All four of us stood near the bar and was ignored for a few minutes ( the restaurant was 95% empty at the time ) so we approached the bar to order some drinks. About a minute later a man standing at the bar drinking a beer said “you will have to drink those outside, all these tables are reserved” To which I replied “cant’t we drink them at the small barrel tables near the door” to which he agreed. Turned out to be the manager, found him quite abrupt and seemed to be having verbal digs at his staff the whole time we was there. Every table in the restaurant was completely empty at the time 🤷🏼‍♂️

popped in for lunch as saw the good reviews, and the view looked great. was greated an offered a table by the sea view. even on a rainy day it was a nice view. Unfortunately other then a couple of the staff who seemed helpful and welcoming we felt a bit uncomfortable an unwelcome. dispite never feeling that way anywhere else on the island. The meals were nice but not in my top 10 tasty meals. kind of feels a mix between a posh restaurant and a nice pub both me and my partner couldn't put our finger on it. By the time we left a few more diner's had arrived an a few with dogs that were friendly an chatty letting me an my daughter say hello to the pups. that is probably the best part of the experience meeting the other diner's an dogs. shame as had high hopes for a new place to eat when on the island.

Popped out with she who must be obeyed to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Mainly to celebrate me still being alive I suppose! Great setting, good food at good prices. Lovely view from the windows. Staff attentive. Will be returning in the near future for sure.

Popped in for a cream tea but they don't do them anymore. Cheesy chips were very nice though. Drinks were good too. Lovely spot in the summer when the weather is good. Dogs are welcome too.

Very good restaurant, right on the waterfront with fabulous views! Weekends are busy as you would expect. We ate on a Sunday night in October which was just a little quieter but still full of atmosphere. Food was good and plentiful. Lots of choice in the menu, with pasta, fish and meat. Prices were average for type of restaurant. Staff were good and friendly. All in all, a lovely restaurant by the sea

Didn't have food, just a glass of wine with our dogs. Very friendly staff, we felt very welcome with our dogs.

We stood for some time and got ignored, so took it upon our selfs to approach the bar to order a drink for four Adults. As we were ordering our drinks the manager said to us that we would have to drink them outside as all the tables were reserved. I looked around the restaurant and every table in the restaurant was empty. I said surely we can sit around them big barrels over there, to which he agreed. Found him rude and overheard him talking to his staff in a belittling way.

Lovely location on the quayside - very good service; excellent local beers and lovely, well cooked food. Very hard to find any criticism - very good value for money

The food was plentiful and surprisingly good. On a previous visit I had the lamb kleftico and I've never had more tender lamb. This time we had the two-streaks-for-£45 offer, and they were juicy and tender. Great views over the sea. Good level of service and very friendly.

Only 2 veggie options, chick pea curry or roasted Mediterranean vegetables with new potatoes. Neither were worth the price. Service was average and the tables very very sticky! Lovely setting though.

I’m sure the food is great and it is a place to be, obviously my face didn’t fit as I was ignored by 5 staff members all too busy to greet me or meet my eye to help me to a table. My question was...

Lovely food although the pan fried Sea bass was slightly undercooked. And the risotto was tasteless. Meal portion was excellent and presentation was great! Extremely slow service....waited 25 minutes for someone to take our pudding order. After becoming fed up waiting we decided to pay the bill and leave. The young girl that came to the table with the bill put her hands on her hips and loudly sighed once we'd changed our minds about staying for pudding and 2 minutes later basically threw the bill down on the table and walked off abruptly.we got up to leave and pay on exit when we had to wait a further amount of time and no acknowledgement from staff. Great location and a nice restaurant however some staff need training in etiquette and dress code.

Why go abroad with scenery like Totland Bay. Add the the sun which does come out more in the south perfect.

God moves in mysterious ways. Came here in 2010 with my wife's Dad. He's now dead. We returned to IOW this week for first time. Found this restaurant again, without looking for it. Couldn't believe it. It's BETTER than previously. Great location, super menu and served inside or outside on Terrace immediately overlooking the sea. Motivated staff and their fresh Mackerel with horseradish and salad was exquisite. New owners took over six years ago....it's a must visit, car parking, dog friendly. Terrific all round.
