Under The Nut Tree in Herefordshire, County of

A very different experience , we were invited to celebrate a friend's birthday, and having heard great things we were delighted with our night out. The food is cooked over wood which gives a fantastic flavour. The vibe is electric, perfect for a celebration.

All 4 of us were blown away by this whole experience. The warm welcome, the wonderful smells of wood fire and the theatre of "The Beast" cooking the potatoes and the Corn on the Cob expertly managed and looked after by skilled cooks. Simon is passionate and proud of what he cooks and serves up (and so he should be!). Carolina is a wonderful host. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal sat under cover with beautiful lighting and heat lamps. Sublime food - with Porchetta as our main course. It's a truly magical place to dine and cannot recommend this place enough.

Well, this was so much more than dining out. The whole experience was fantastic, aside from the excellent staff, and delicious food, the process of cooking on the artistic "barbecue tree" outside in the courtyard. What a wonderful experience and culinary delight.

Wow! What a lovely evening. It felt like we were in a dream! The most beautiful setting and equally beautiful ppl who welcome you as if old friends to dine together. The place was buzzing with an atmosphere we were in awe of. A must!! Thank you We took our little boy who loved it too. Thank you !!

Starter was inadequate, 1 piece of bread and a bit of melted cheese. Main was so undercooked I could hardly eat it, pudding ok but for £55 a head very very overpriced, will not return. Came away hungry and out of pocket.

Beautiful venue and great concept however the food and service is a let down. Starter was bland and stodgy (an attempt to fill bellies) main was ok but cold and not enough of it. Desert was fine but nothing special. The most infuriating moment was when the owner/manager came round to ask if everything was ok and if we’d had enough only to be told once we’d asked for some more that there wasn’t any! Then to be charged 55/person and prompted to tip! A real shame as we had high hopes. Would not recommend.

What a fantastic place. The hosts and staff are so warm and welcoming. The setting is idyllic and it's a wonderfully relaxed eating experience. The food was fantastic,it's a set menu, which takes the hassle out of deciding what you want. It's all cooked outside, over the most spectacular fire grill. The seating area outside was relaxing, with great music playing and fires to sit round when the temperature began to drop off. It's bring your own drink and glass, although there is water and a glass available on the table. No corkage fee either so you can drink as much as you like. £55 plus a well deserved tip for three course meal with table service and chilling by the fire in to the late hours of the evening, in a beautiful place on a summer evening is more than worth it. We will be back for sure. Thank you x

Nice idea, cool atmosphere but an expensive bbq experience and IMO, not worth the money. The mains were okay but massively let down by the start and dessert. £110 for a couple and they pushed for a tip.

From the moment we arrived it was like turning up at a friend’s house for a party we were really looking forward to. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy, everyone was there to have a good time. Delicious food, having it cooked outdoors gives it a special magic, and we love the set menu and not having to choose what to eat. The whole vibe is just brilliant, the flowers, the lighting, the homely decor. It must take a lot of work to make everything so effortless! We’ll be back!

The place itself is absolutely stunning, however let down massively by the rudeness of the head chef and lack of hygiene. Visited beginning of May for my partners birthday, I’m currently in my first trimester of pregnancy so was sceptical about bbq food anyway. Was told to sit outside and would be informed when the food was served, time went on and I could see the starter (asparagus) yes that’s right, asparagus was being served. My partner and I went in to our table thinking ours would be served shortly, only to find the asparagus started was on the table, cold. Not a huge issue, we ate it cold and as tasty as asparagus was hollandaise sauce gets, it was nice. Our main meal came sometime afterwards. Pork off the bbq, their famous potatoes and vegetables. Tucking into the meal which was once again just above cold, very cautious due to my pregnancy I located a chargrilled wasp amongst my veg. I stopped eating immediately and so didn’t my partner, making one of the female members of staff aware and she was very accommodating, offering us more food but I obviously didn’t want any more. Shortly after the main meal, the head chef and I believe owner came around asking everyone was the food okay. Not wanting to make a fuss, I quietly explained I had an insect in my food. My partner and I were genuinely taken back and shocked by his reaction. He began shouting “An insect? An insect? What do you mean? Don’t be so ridiculous.” I was so embarrassed l. I then explained there was a wasp cooked into my food which he then shouted “A wasp? Well that’s flown in your food whilst you’ve been eating it, that could happen anywhere.” I was so embarrassed and felt so between. A male on the table behind then commented “I would eat a wasp if it tasted that good.” I felt so uncomfortable due to the chefs response and attitude I couldn’t stay for the dessert. I asked the female member of staff who I now believe is also an owner of the company could I take the desserts away. Without hesitation the lady brought us desserts no trouble at all and apologised once again for the main course. She then reprocessed to type into the card machine £110. £55 per person as this is a set menu restaurant where you take your own beverage. Again, shocked. The lady clear saw neither of us ate anything more than a mouthful of food from the main course and was aware of how rude the chef had been to us. I paid the full amount and walked from the restaurant devastated. What was supposed to be to be a lovely evening out with good food was in fact nothing short of a terrible experience. I am disappointed to write this review as we had high expectations for Under The Nut Tree. As stated above the venue itself is stunning, beautiful surroundings and a lovely atmosphere. Customer service was shocking. Nothing short of rude and will not be returning. I have a large following on social media accounts and posted a video prior to food of the restaurant. When people have messaged me asking was the place worth the travel, I have unfortunately had to recommend people don’t waste a journey to this restaurant. Even if the food was hot and didn’t have a wasp in it, it would have been average and most certainly not worth £55pp.

Lovely setting, music choice excellent. Lots and lots of diners eating 3 course set menu. Bring yr own drinks. Food good and first time in a long time was able to eat 3 courses. Would visit again in warmer months and would ask for the enamel serving dish to be warmed more.

We very much enjoyed our night at out UTNT. Everyone eats at the same time to a fixed menu, much of which is cooked outside on coals/BBQ. The fixed nature of it all takes away the hassle of choosing so we enjoyed that (although of course, there might be something served which you don't fancy). Bring your own drinks which was fine. The inside eating room is a revamped barn which is quirky and interesting and it all works really well. Highly recommended for something a little different.

Our staff Christmas do. We had visited 3x earlier this year and thought it had the right atmosphere and could accommodate our vegetarian and vegan needs. It did. Catered for 22. Nice spot at one end of the barn, so the first tike we were inside. Everyone had a great time. Especially the naughty elves. Pitta and feta dip to start, slow roast belly pork and roast potatoes with awesome carrots and a chocolate mousse to finish. Can't fault it. Did I mention the download play list ? you could market that !

Sssh - don't tell too many people about this place or you'll never be able to get a table ... What a fabulous place to go for a relaxed and informal night out - we had an absolutely brilliant evening. Simon and Carolina are superb hosts - so welcoming and accommodating. From the second we arrived we felt like we were old friends returning to make their day. Having welcomed us warmly, they then served up the most magnificent fare from their daily set menu: a generous helping of lasagne and focaccia as a starter, exquisitely cooked beef and roasties from the bespoke barbeques accompanied with green beans and mushrooms, finished off with a gorgeous tiramisu. There's nothing about this place we would want to change save for it being closer to where we live so we could go again and again. We'll get back there though, this is a gem of a spot.

What a wonderful evening! A beautiful setting, even in the middle of winter - the lighting and decorations make it very special in the barn. Absolutely delicious food - the beef was some of the best I’ve ever tasted! Simon, Carolina and their team could not have been more welcoming and went above and beyond to give us a very special evening. We’re not local but will back!

Maybe I was at a different place, cold draughty barn,with one toilet. When the food arrived all I could taste was the burned flavour.,I had the feeling the staff were more impressed with the product than we were. I think £35 a head might have been nearer the mark ,for that offering £50 a head was a tadd punchey.

The most fantastic experience. This place is unlike any other - the food is mouthwateringly good and the ambience, music and hosts are simply amazing. They just get everything right. It's my second visit and they have exceeded my expectations both times. Absolute gem of a place. Well done to everyone involved - you make it seem effortless to give your guests the most magical evening.

It is out in the middle of nowhere but what a find! Beautiful setting, even on a cold, misty night. A very friendly welcome from the guys there and the lab roaming around and was lovely to watch them all cooking our dinner. The metal tree sculpture they cook on is just like nothing you've ever seen. The barn we ate in was so pretty and eclectic. But the food... wow... some seriously big flavours going on! Plentiful and delicious! Wasn't like going to a restaurant.. it was like going round a friends for a big bbq party. Really lovely evening... Will definitely return!

Absolutely astounding location and meal, we sat outside in October, but the combination of the open fires and cooking meant we were more than warm enough - to be honest it seemed a better atmosphere than their space inside. The BBQ and fire pits really add to the atmosphere and the team geniunly care for you, at times it feels youve been invited to their garden for a BBQ! Easily the best meal out I have had all year, I will return!

Simplicity should never be underrated when it is done with passion and love. Which is definitely something they do so well. Beautiful setting, colder months you need to make sure you either book to sit indoors or ensure you have appropriate clothing, they do have some fantastic fires for the outside. Make sure you take what you want to drink. It might be worth getting a taxi home to get fully immersed in the whole chilled experience. Dining is so much easier, knowing that what is being cooked is what you are getting, saving the time to enjoy the evening with conversation with others that you may be sharing the evening with. It also stops any harsh discussions on who had extra when sharing the bill at the end. The passion of the people comes through the fantastic tasting food and thier welcome. A beautiful taste of Herefordshire 💗💗💗

Magical venue, warm & friendly service & delicious food. Simon and Carolina are such fantastic hosts and have created an unforgettable experience which is a real gem. This was our 4th visit from Surrey & we will definitely be back again. So glad we found it!

At our eclectic rendition of the "Last Supper," 12 of us gathered around the table. Ten of us were old comrades, and the evening promised to be filled with familiar tales and laughter. But the universe had a delightful twist in store for us. Enter a charismatic husband and wife duo we had just met. They weren't just any couple; they were a treasure trove of tales, regaling us with stories that ranged from the hilarious to the heartwarming. Every anecdote was a journey, and we found ourselves hanging on to their every word. As if the evening wasn't already brimming with surprises, there was a celebrity sighting! A few tables away sat a famed rugby player. In a bout of audacious camaraderie, we offered him one of our prized Cuban cigars. Holding up his roll-up fag with a grin, he kindly declined, mentioning he didn't partake in cigars. The moment was a blend of irony and humor, adding another chapter to our evening's storybook. The venue, ever so accommodating, allowed us the luxury of our own champagne and the liberty to light up our cigars. The meat was a gastronomic marvel, but truly, with the company of newfound storytellers, a star athlete's cameo, and the ambient charm of the place, the evening was nothing short of legendary. To serendipitous encounters and tales that never end! Five stars!

Wow! We had a magical evening here last night. The weather was a bit drizzly so we were in the beautiful barn, cosy and full of home grown dahlias. We took our teenage sons with us and we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The food was plentiful and amazing. We had beef and roast potatoes with garlic mushrooms and rocket and Parmesan salad. Dessert was delicious lemon cloud pie. We sat around the fire after dinner and relaxed in the comfy chairs underneath the lights. .The hosts were lovely and we had a very special evening. I didn’t want to leave. Thanks, we’ll be back.

This isn’t somewhere you’d happen across. Reservations are absolutely necessary and it is in a remote location. However it is more than worth the effort of booking and getting there. It is a simply wonderful experience, which reflects the quality of the food and the ambience. First thing is it isn’t licensed so it works on a BYO basis, but there isn’t a corkage charge. If you don’t organise to take screw tops they do have a few corkscrews. It’s a fixed fee, fixed menu. I’ve no idea how they cope with allergies or other food challenges. However it’s simple, straightforward and great quality food. We paid £50 a head for three courses which was exceptionally good value in the minds of everyone in our party of 6. Starter was a chicken kebab with a delightful garlic and chilli sauce. Main course was beef steak and roast potatoes from the BBQ, which was of itself a work of art (yes, literally) and desert was a fabulous key lime pie. We had sufficient to take away for our dog’s breakfast. Dogs were not only welcomed but positively embraced. Serving staff were fantastic. They struck a great balance between service and casual, friendly interaction. I’d recommend this place to friends and family and, next time in that part of the world, would definitely go again.
