Soju & Gogi in Newcastle upon Tyne

We arrived at the restaurant at 12.30 pm on a Saturday, the place was very cold inside as though the heating had just been turned on. we ordered and when the food arrived it was all very cold because it had obviously been siting around for too long in the cold air temperature. The service was not the best and seemed very slow.

Had a great experience here last night. Very busy and most of the other diners appeared to be Korean - which was very reassuring. Lovely authentic decor and great atmosphere. Food was just fabulous (need to give a special mention to the Korean chicken and king prawn starters). Service had just the right amount of attentiveness and friendliness. Can’t wait to return next time we’re in Newcastle!

This is a very nice restaurant in a good location in Newcastle. It has a very comprehensive menu including a Korean barbecue where they bring hot charcoal to the table to enable you to cook your own food. The meals were very good. Where it fell short was the menu had very little in the explanation as to what you were ordering and what it consisted of or looked like. Some help with the menu would have been greatly appreciated. Also they did not sell any sort of dessert. Unfortunately I did not take any photographs.

Always seems busy when we passed so eventually booked a table. The concept of B-B-Q'ing your own food at the table was tempting and the setup was very good. We ordered the sharing platter of meats. However, no one took us through how things would work, there was only one set of tongs to use for the cooking (other than a set of chop sticks each), the meat selection was very thin & small slices of beef & chicken. I got particularly annoyed when the waitress came over during the meal and started to put raw meat on the bbq touching the meat already cooking ! Not impressed - think its a health hazard waiting to happen - needs to be better controlled and organized. Won't be eating there again.

A lovely Korean BBQ experience, with beautifully presented ingredients and attentive staff. While being on the pricier side, one certainly comes here for the BBQ experience and the tastefully marinated dishes. Especially with food cooked over charcoal, there is a distinct delicious smoked taste 😄😁 Our only issue we faced was an incessantly noisy motor suction fan in front of us, in which the staff tried to quieten multiple times but failed. So while it was delicious food, the noise had to be tolerated. We were just unlucky to be seated there.

Had high hopes for this place but we left very disappointed. Our service was pretty good all night until the end as we were cooking the last bit of chicken from our meat platter and the waitress patronisingly told us the chicken was cooked and proceeded to pick it up and cut it in half with the scissors we had been cutting the raw chicken with! Very rude and just unacceptable.

I bought the Korean fried chicken starter which came out stone cold in the middle and raw.. not just pink, fully raw - the staff were super apologetic and took it away and kept coming over throughout the night to try and make up for it with a better service... the do it yourself BBQ is a novelty, once you've done it you probably wont rush back, especially considering the amount of beef on the platter for the price is criminal. then the funniest part, they brought the bill and tried to charge me for the raw chicken starter, I asked them to kindly take it off and they obliged. Wont be returning but I can understand why people would go as a one off.

Went here for a date night to have some Korean bbq and had a fantastic experience. Staff were all very friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed during the meal. Think we may have been a little slow as the grill started to wither towards the end of the meal and was taking long periods to cook the food. We went for the meat feast platter with added prawns and egg fried rice and have to say the food was amazing! 10/10 would definitely go again!

The 'event' BBQ is great, taste good, but it is very expensive for the food you get. You enjoy the cooking experience. The service was OK, with a smile. Not sure I would go back.

visited for the first time today and we loved everything about it for starter we had the spicy beef soup which was amazing and could have eaten more simply delicious and my daughter had the korean chicken which was equally amazing we also had the beef platter and it was great we could cook ourselves. Great little spot, with a really wide selection of excellently made dishes - we'll definitely be back to try more! The staff are really friendly and service was good. Everything we ordered came so fresh and hot from the kitchen too, so food is obviously made fresh to order and all tasted amazing.

It’s a shame we walked away from this place disappointed. We had to wait 40 minutes to have our orders taken, even though we were the first customers there when they opened. After ordering, it took over an hour for the food to arrive and no excuse was given from any of the waiters, on the contrary, they made an effort of avoiding all contact. Once the food started arriving, it took twenty minutes from the first person got his food until the last person got hers meaning he was done eating before she could even start. Bad experience over all and not going again despite the food actually being very tasty. Very close to leaving this place early as we weren’t sure our food was even coming. We tried asking the waiters but they ignored our every try to get in contact with them until it had been almost two hours from we entered the restaurant and we finally managed to get someone to check the order.
