Had a fabulous meal here with friends. Our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. The curry and spicy curry were both delicious, as was everything else our friends had. Informal casual atmosphere, attentive helpful staff and great food made for a great pre-concert experience. Will be back.

Mumbai Indian Restaurant, Kendal – Where the Curry is Hot and So is the Gossip Let’s be honest: finding truly good Indian food in a small English town can feel like hunting for a decent flat white South of the Watford Gap—technically possible, but not without heartbreak. Which is why stumbling into Mumbai Indian Restaurant in Kendal is rather like discovering a Taj Mahal replica nestled between a Greggs and a hardware store. From the moment you enter, you're hit with a warm, fragrant cloud that says, quite firmly, “Yes, darling, we use actual spices here. Take a seat, you’ll live again.” And so you do. Service is swift, friendly, and only occasionally confused, which is part of the charm. The staff are as warm as a fresh naan and about as likely to make your day better. They recommend dishes with the twinkle of someone who knows you’re about to cry tears of joy—or possibly chilli. We began with the papadums, of course, because one must respect tradition. They were crisp, light, and came with a mango chutney so addictive it could end marriages. Then came the Butter Chicken, which should really be rebranded as "Hug in a Bowl"—so rich, so creamy, it should come with a cholesterol warning and a small spoon-wielding grandmother who tells you to eat more. My dining partner chose the Vegetable Madras, which arrived with a kick sharp enough to reboot your nervous system and a depth of flavour that whispered sweet nothings to the soul. The Home-Style Spicy Chicken was exactly as advertised: ferociously hot, but in a way that felt like a dare from a beloved cousin—one who’s trying to hurt you, yes, but only because he loves you. The rice was fluffy, the garlic naan chewy in all the right places, and the only disappointment was that we didn’t have four more stomachs. Prices are reasonable—shockingly so, considering the sheer joy being ladled into each dish. In conclusion: Mumbai Indian Restaurant is not just a good local curry house. It’s a celebration of spice, warmth, and the occasional inability to feel your tongue. Kendal, count your blessings. This place slaps harder than your auntie when you forget to call. JR

My husband and I had a really lovely stay at the Cricketers. The pub itself was full of character, our room was clean, well-appointed and very comfortable, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Went last Sunday. 2 of our party shared half crispy duck, plenty of duck but short on pancakes which they replenished when we asked. 3 of the party had the all you can eat. For those that haven’t been before, you can order a soup to start (and then as many to follow but make sure you eat it), you can then move onto the starters, there are about 12 to choose from. You can choose two per person which is then cooked and delivered t your table. Once you have done you can order again, and again if you wish as long as you eat it and don’t waste it. Then you can move to the mains. There are about 12 to choose from. Again you can have as many as you wish. The starters are small, but they are made fresh and are piping hot. You can order as many as you like and it adds to the experience. Yes the decor needs updating but the food makes up for it. I miss the huge fish tanks they had pre covid, my kids loved looking at the gigantic Koi.

I came here a while back but didn’t get round to leaving a review. I’m from london, and I went to Bristol to visit family. We came out to eat and we chose this place. The food was good and the staff were very friendly. It was a nice and chilled vibe and a very relaxing experience. This place is good for a meal for two or even a meal for the family. I enjoyed my visit.

I booked for lunchtime dining on the 16th December for myself and parents about 3 weeks ago - I stated that my parents both had walking problems (I even spoke to somebody about it on the phone too) and I asked for a 1.30pm booking. Tonight at 6pm (15th December) I got a call saying they can't cater for people with disabilities and that they only serve food from 12.00 - 13.30!! When I asked why I wasn't told this at the time of booking I was told 'sorry, it's our mistake'. I hate to say it but I feel I was lied to and they had some other reason for cancelling my booking at the last minute!!!! Very disappointing.
