Wagamama in Gateshead

I used to love coming here, but the quality of the food has declined. My husband's chicken katsu curry was very average with one very thinly sliced chicken breast, which was covered in a mountain of rice and topped with curry sauce. Very different from how it used to be and disappointing.

The most passive aggressive service of all time! Firstly we arrived to be sat next to a woman who was furious as it was her birthday and the chicken was entirely raw on the inside (I could see this was true). Poor lady had taken her family for her birthday and our waitress who we shared with her didn’t even apologise and just whipped it away in a very aggressive manner. Secondly our drinks arrived about half an hour after we ordered them… I had finished my starter by then and was half way though main course with nothing to drink half an hour after ordering. Another waitress gave me a very sarcastic smile when I asked where the drinks were and she said I’ll go and check when she only delivered one drink instead of two the same. Finally as we were about to pay I went to the ladies and it was disgusting… utterly filthy, wet tissues strewn all over the floor and absolutely no loo paper anywhere in any loos. I informed the manager who I said I’ll see to it but before I had even finished my sentence then snapped at me that she was doing my bill could I please sit down!!!!! I then said it really wasn’t acceptable to pay £18 for a main course and have loos like a slum…. She gave me another of her sarcastic smiles and said “I told you to sit down”??? The most vile experience of all time and we used to love coming here as a treat in the holidays. We will never go again after the utterly vile and humiliating treatment from staff. Paid bill in full and left feeling furious. One exception the lovely man on reception sitting people, utterly charming.

Never disappointed with the food here. Number 50 is one of the best dishes I’ve had this year. Lovely atmosphere when not busy. Thanks to Glenn for great service.

We visited Wagamama’s in the Metrocentre after shopping. We were seated and provided with menus, after looking over the menu thoroughly I opted for the Crispy Shredded Duck Saku Saku Soba and the Lucky Buddha Lager. Drinks were served quickly and there was around a 10 minute wait for my food. We got the Chilli Squid to share, which was cooked very well and the sauce was to die for. The two main meals were brought out separately but both were piping hot and looked very appetising. My meal was exceptionally tasty with tender duck and well cooked noodles and veg. The servers were also helpful. It was very easy to pay for the meals via the QR code as well.

Super lively restaurant with fantastic food. There truly is something to eat here for everyone. Even my fussy husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The real reason I’m leaving the review is to say a massive thank you to our server, LISA. She made us feel so comfortable and welcomed, sat down at the table with us while ordering, made sure we enjoyed the food thoroughly and was willing to make any adjustments to our meal. We have visited here for years however haven’t been for a few months but only because we tried other places. In the past it would defo a 4 maybe even a 5 at times. 1st off the service is spot on! Nothing wrong with the colleagues. The one time we had issues the colleague and manager were great, all sorted. The short benches however are useless if you’re over 6’6’ which I am, and this is due to the seat being nailed into the floor it means an uncomfortable seat in a busy restaurant. Onto the food, so the absolutely winning Katsu chicken curry is now simply not worth the money, you get a sliver of chicken, a load of rice and hardly any sauce, Gyozas….. £7+…. Wow! Grilled Duck Donburi £18!!!! Look the food is nice but wayyyy overpriced now most dishes are around 20% more than the last menu and even those prices were more to the expensive side of the market. The price hikes are not down to the colleagues in stores and as I’ve said, they generally are very good, The rating is based on value for money which it’s now probably a 1/5 and gets the extra 2 points for the service. Wagamama used to be a “GO TO” for us but you can simply get better for less elsewhere now.

Will never return! As waiting for food seen one of the male waiter rubbing his nose then his thumb going up it and yes he was the one serving food to tables felt sick I didn’t want my food! Good job the other male waiter brought my food to my table or I wouldn’t have eating it. Hubby said he’s dish was nice but my pad Thai was horrible no flavour and chicken was dry as sticks!

I love this place they always try and accommodate me as I need a proper Chair for my spinal injury which is never an issue it’s clean and the staff are really good the food Is exceptional I love the katsu curry (hot) and sticky rice I can’t wait to return

Went here for lunch a couple of times - the staff was lovely, very helpful and always available. The food was delicious and good value for money. Good vegetarian and vegan options.

Fabulous. Popped in after shopping and was welcomed, had a delicious dinner and great service from Joe who recommended a fab dish. So good I bought the cookbook. Rare to find such a great place in a shopping centre

A consistent restaurant. We joined a large queue which was cleared in about fifteen minutes. The team were very friendly and the food was mostly enjoyable. The vegan sticky ribs weren’t for us (personal taste) and the edamame seemed to be missing the salt. The pad Thai I had however was wonderful as was the mushroom bao. The chefs made a tweaked version of the menu to accommodate dietary preferences which was appreciated. Drinks arrived after the food but the team explained that was because they were training.

Came in for food before heading off to the cinema with some friends. Absolutely could not fault the experience; the food was lovely, and the staff were all extremely friendly. Our server Kate was so lovely, she bantered on with us all, and we had a nice conversation. Thank you, we will definitely be back :))

Yet another restaurant chain that is hyped up as amazing. Sorry but food bland and overpriced. I had chicken and king prawn noodle dish. 3 prawns in the dish. A japanese food equivalant of Macdonalds. Tasteless over priced rubbish.

There was a small mistake with our order, but the staff, such as Abi, were amazing about it and handed the situation perfectly. The Food is AMAZING.

Me and my boyfriend come here and can never fault it, the quality is always 100% and have never had a bad meal yet!! We now consider this to be one of are regular places to visit for food

When I was younger my parents would never have dreamed of taking me to an Asian style restaurant, purely down to the presence of allergens in the kitchens and the amount of dishes which contained tree/ peanuts. However, Wagamama has made this a possibility with arguably the best allergen menu of a “high street” restaurant chain. The menu itself is incredibly easily to use, due to the fact it filters the menu to show you dishes which don’t contain your selected allergen. This in itself gives a person with an allergy a real sense of safety, that is furthered when told you’ve been allocated a manager and a member of waiting staff purely for your table. Once I’d ordered my food, the manager informed us that our food would take a little longer to arrive due to the allergen requirements, but that it would not be a long wait. When the food arrived it was superb quality and very well presented. So this is the first time I’ve ever been to an Asian style restaurant with my Dad, which for some will be a normal occurrence, but to me this is a memory that will last a long long time.

My boyfriend and I were met by Chris and from the moment he acknowledged our arrival he was brilliantly delightful. He was terribly helpful on advising us on what to order and once the food came, Chris who is clearly passionate and good at his job could sense I wasn’t happy and instantly stepped in, changed my dish and totally lifted my mood. I can honestly say that my return to venue will not be just for the food, but the amazing warmth and service that Chris and the other staff members offered. Working in this industry I do hope that who ever reads this from Wagamama can recognise the importance of staff like Chris as they really are few and far between. I would love to think that he can be thanked at a higher level. Thank you.

Management should hang their heads in shame. 65 minutes in a queue to get in. Grossly understaffed to the point where the restaurant shouldn’t be open at all. Corporate greed at its finest. And top it all the entire top floor is empty as there aren’t enough staff to man that either. Food was very slow to arrive and tepid at best. An utter disappointment that we will absolutely never repeat.

Took my family for Ramen I ordered Tantanmen beef Ramen, my son ordered kids chicken ramen. Tantanmen is meant to be numbingly spicy with chilli and schechuan pepper in a creamy broth. Both dishes came with the same broth which was neither chicken for my sons dish nor creamy for mine, it looked and tasted like dishwater that had some ginger in it - truly awful, mine with about a tablespoon of shredded dry beef! Real shame they just try and pass off anything as authentic dishes it’s quite appalling. Do not waste your money here, if you want authentic go to Chillis in town.

We visited Wagamama after an issue the last time we got a take out (which was through no fault of Wagamama). We were told to mention the previous issue and did so, the staff were all so polite and helpful and didn’t make us feel uncomfortable at all for mentioning it. After speaking to the staff, the waitress came back over to say they were going to give an extra goodwill gesture as a result. I explained that this wasn’t necessary however they insisted. This was a lovely thing to do, which they didn’t have to and made our day. The little things like this make a big difference and is what brings people back to the restaurant. Not only was the service 10/10 from all staff and the manager on shift, the food was the best we have had at Wagamama. We got a spicy chicken ramen, firecracker chicken, edamames and pulled pork gyozas. It was a lovely end to our weekend and we will be back very soon. Highly recommend. Thank you Wagamama!

Waited 10 minutes just for a drink, then ordered a spicy and normal Katsu curry. My curry arrived straight away, my boyfriends took 20 minutes by the time I had finished his had came. They also gave him the spicy one which was too hot for him so he couldn’t even eat it. Food itself was lovely but service was not good, no one even asked how the food was.

Once you've visited one Wagamama restaurant, you've visited them all. This branch has one difference though - the service. The staff here are excellent. The restaurant has been kitted out to meet all Covid restrictions and the staff are always there ready to help, even with the tiniest request. Can't fault them. The legendary Chicken Katsu Curry is my recommendation. Food is always nice. I enjoyed having the ability to pay through an online platform, would be great if we could order through it too.

Ate here Sat. 31st Oct. Greeter told us wait time, which was fine, 20mins, I asked for a chair, not a bench, as I have back problems. The designated booth we were shown to, had been cleaned to within an inch of its life!! The young lady cleaned, the seats, the very nice screens, the table top and even the edges and underside... Incredible and applaudable! The food and service were of the expected very high quality, but it was the level of attention given to the cleaning that blew us away. In the current climate it was so reassuring I just wish I'd have got the names of those specific members of staff, but perhaps you could trace via shift rotas and reward accordingly. As key workers, we can't thank you enough, and for the food..

Quickly seated, polite staff and well spread out tables. Food fleshly prepared and cooked to your requirements. Highly recommended the teriyaki soba sirloin steak, mind the the chillies.

The food is delicious at Wagamamas, it really is, but incase you didn't already know, they bring the dishes out at different times. So as soon as the dish is cooked, they will bring it out. When I visited on Friday, I got my main course about 10 minutes before my starter. That being said, both courses tasted absolutely gorgeous as usual catered for my friend and her allergies, and even brought her out a sample of hot sauce! The waiter was a lovely and polite gentleman who made the experience very pleasant. Definitely recommend, although the queue to get in was quite long!

Earlier this year our eldest son was put on a very restrictive diet due to a range of food intolerances - this was our first meal out in 7 months . When we requested to see the gluten free menu we were told that we would be looked after by a certain member of staff (the manager I think). The gluten free food was cooked in a separate part of the kitchen, he took a list of all of the restrictions to our son's diet and ensured that substitutions were made to lots of elements of the dish so he was able to eat it. The food was excellent, even though the restaurant was busy due to the eat out to help out scheme, they couldn't do enough to ensure we all had an enjoyable meal. I reiterate what others have said with regards to feeling covid safe, there are partitions on the tables, visors worn by staff and the cleaning of the tables and chairs looked very thorough.

Visited for our first post lockdown meal out, very impressed by this place. The customer service was spot on, social distancing measure adhered to, very friendly helpful staff. The food was just as good, lots of choice and very well prepared. I will definitely be coming back here to sample some of the other options

We came on a monday night as part of the eat out to help out scheme. We had to queue to get in which was expected but the queue went down quite quickly. All the staff had visors which made us feel safer and there is social distancing in place. AS we were given a pocket size menu in the queue, we knew what we wanted and were told it was cashless which was fine was us. We paid on the internet which was great so we didn't need to wait for the waitress. We both got the chicken katsu curry and the portion size was great. Food was cooked to order and could tell it was cooked freshly too

First meal after lockdown, cleaning of tables chairs and condiments after every sitting, well spaced seating. head chef shouts and orders his staff in kitchen to stop everything and wash their hands on quite a regular basis, nice to see. Deffinetley felt 100% safe. And food was once again outstanding and very fresh.

ordered a cocktail midway through my meal, having already ordered a soft drink. I was there for my 18th birthday, but had brought no ID with me as I only have my passport and would rather not bring it out of the house. I was asked for ID to verify my age, and explained I had none but was there for my 18th birthday. Both my father and grandmother were there to vouch for me but I was refused. Even when I showed a photo of my passport to them, they refused again and became quite off with me. Took all the fun out of it and put a downer on my 18th birthday. thanks wagamama.

This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised I have been told by a few people that this was a great place to eat and I had my reservations but the food was amazing would highly recommend and will be coming back soon, my only gripe is its a bit expensive.

We went as a family to the restaurant at Milton Keynes yesterday. The staff attitude was very appalling. There is no courtesy.t After all Wagamama is not feeding for free. Would not recommend MIlton Keynes Wagamama to anyone.

New vegetable tempura is lovely ! Had the teriyaki salmon soba and had to ask for extra teriyaki sauce as noodles were a bit dry, got the sauce no problem After asking for the bill and being brought it quickly we had to wait about 10 minutes for the card machine to be brought despite it not being busy at all, more server awareness would be nice

Visited today. Had my usual plate of yasai pad Thai and my sister had her usual shirodashi ramen and both didn’t disappoint. Chilli squid was also tasty. Good quick service and food piping hot. Left full and happy.

I went in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and was really impressed by the service from Holly who was friendly and helpful. The food, chicken ramen, was excellent and came in good time. I recommend visiting this place.

I visited Wagamama in the metro with my girlfriend. A lady called Alex served usband she was fantastic, I have allergies and she really took the time to explain everything on the menu that was suitable for me. She has us laughing the whole time and just made out meal out loads of fun. Will be returning soon thats for sure !

By far this place is the best restaurant in the metrocentre. We love the food and service and love wagamama everywhere we go, but this branch is our fave by a mile.

Felt compelled to write another 5 star review of this place as yet again it was fantastic. The manager, didn't catch his name, was talking about the new menu dishes launching soon, and a top secret hot katsu i can't wait to try that. It was date night, and our favourite choice is always to go to Wagamamas and then the cinema! We always get the same thing but love it everytime! Katsu chicken curry, sirloin soba, chilli squid and pulled pork gyoza! Amazing! See you next time!

We came here as a treat for our 3 year old daughter (and 1 year old son but he was indifferent to where we went). Absolutely delighted with how amazing the staff were with the children, my daughter was taken care of from the moment we stepped foot into the place. Staff were attentive and extremely patient as we moved the buggy to our table. The children's menu was a little more pricey than most places we go to however the quality and size was awesome. For the rest of us food was great and service for the most was super. My only criticism was that we had to wait a long time to get our change and seemed to be forgotten once we paid our bill, which is a shame as I was going to give 5 stars.

Well first there was a queue to the resaraunt so we thought it must be popular. After 10 minutes we were shown to our table and drinks orders taken. While the 2 companions I was with were quickly served their drinks, my drink took an additional 15 minutes to arrive which I was not impressed with but let it go.

People have been telling me how good Wagamamas is for years, yet I have only just got around to going this week. An absolute delight for anyone who loves spicy flavours and tasty food. The staff seem happy in their job which creates a very hospitable atmosphere. I thought it was great, and it reminds me to keep sampling new places and trying different cuisines.

Yet again the staff were very friendly, professional, very helpful and chatty. Very clean , good service and the food was excellent as usual. This restaurant is hard to match with its excellent service and food

This was my first visit to Wagamamas I have steak teriyaki my friends had chicken teriyaki and ramen we had sides of duck pancakes and bang bang cauliflower. The flavours were bland my steak was left because the quality seemed poor i actually double checked the menu to check what cut of meat it was and was shocked to find out it was sirloin. The duck was luke warm microwaved packet meat both of us didn't eat it. I was disappointed as we all had been dying to try it the service was great but that was the only highlight maybe it was because it was a saturday and they were a little bit busy but i wouldn't risk trying it again just in case it is the same. Such a shame dont understand the fascination. On the plus side my bangbang cauliflower was full of flavour and sadly the nicest part of my meal.

What a disappointment, we love Wagamamas and have visited many times to different ones. Metro centre was terrible. Service very slow and we had to ask repeatedly to order, they seemed untrained and inexperienced. Glasses were dirty and had to changed.

Never been to wagmamamas before first time I have was tonight and had the most best experience of my life the staff were amazing Friendly making sure everything was up to our standards with our food we were also acknowledge straight away good customer service from every staff member drinks and food order were taking with in seconds also the food was delicious would defo be back again thanks to all the staff and kitchen staff for the Amazing food at wagmamas will be returning sometime soon I would Also recommend this restuarant to family and friends 10 /10

The dishes available in Wagamama really stay true to the cuisine they advertise which creates a delicious menu with a good range, including authentic drinks to go along with the meals that are very much worth a try! I ordered a teriyaki chicken dish and a side of duck dumplings was shared and they were like nothing I’ve had before! The staff were also very attentive and kind and the only complaint I would really have would be that the location of the Metrocentre Wagamama means you could be sat on the outside of the restaurant with every passer by looking in and deciding wether or not they want what you have, which is understandably good marketing, but makes the atmosphere less enjoyable.

To my horror when i visited last week the restaurant was closed for a refurbishment, this was a disaster as i couldn't get my weekly fix of wagamama goodness! I returned when they reopened however and it was fabulous. We were served by Georgia and she was just excellent, made recommendations about some new dishes, which are incredible by the way, she entertained our inquisitive child and she really made our experience. The food as always was incredible, even seen the head chef taking such pride in his food that he was taking it to tables to talk about it, the new tama squid is to die for. thanks again for yet another fab visit

The food, the service, the everything here is just amazing. This has to be one of my go to restaurants because I have to say I have never once had bad meal here, it is always superb. One warning though, if you have never been to a Wagamma before, they do bring your meals out at different times that at first is slightly annoying but you get used to it after a few visits.

Well first of all, I never wanted to be one of those ludicrous naysayers who give a terrible irrational review when everyone else is praising that same thing, but in fairness I think I have a point.

When I recently visited, I had a brilliant experience. I was served by Alex and she made me feel very welcome and explained the menu extensively. The food was absolutely delicious! I will definitely become a frequent customer 😊

Can't speak highly enough of this restaurant. One of my family members has allergies and every time we go in they look after us so brilliantly. We seem to get a different manager that deals with our order every time but they all use the same level of professionalism and expertise every time. But it always seems that we get Piotrek (Peter) cooking our food every time, or at least the allergy dishes, his food is exceptional, it doesn't matter if it is busy or quiet, his standards never drop and he is always smiling and shows the kids that look in how he's cooking the food and flaming his pan. A true credit to this restaurant and I don't believe chefs always get the praise they deserve

My first visit to Wagamama and I would definitely go again. Delicious food and very helpful and friendly service.

We visit on a regular basis travelling 35 miles to the restaurant, the service is always excellent, the staff have always been friendly and seem very happy in their job. The food is always perfect, cooked to perfection, very hot and very well presented. The restaurant is always spotless. This staff and restaurant are a credit to the company.

Went this weekend, ordered the duck pancakes, was not enough duck to fill the 4 x pancakes, also 80%^ of the duck was fatty skin, no onions. new dish pork with rice £12.00 3 x small pieces of fatty pork not cooked and 90% boiled rice, no taste.

Ok, what do I mean by problems. Well we walked in and they told us straight away that they were having boiler problems so some dishes would be slow and a dish was not available. Fair enough these things happen. So seated and order taken. Drinks arrived with usual Wagamama efficiency. Dishes started to arrive and then we were told the ordering system had gone down so they were trying to sort orders. Some dishes had come up but sent back so there would b a bit of a wait to get them sorted. James F, our server, looked after us well, bringing us a spare dish because they had sent it up in error! All dishes arrived and the manager told us he would knock of a main and a starter for the problems; happy days! We were kept informed right throughout and well looked after!

Service is always SO quick and efficient and the food is really good. The lollipop prawns and chilli squid starters are lovely and my go to main is the chicken katsu curry but there are also definitely lots of other dishes on the menu worth trying.

Staff at entrance very friendly and accommodating to the fact we needed an outside edge table for wheelchair they checked and said about 5 min wait asked if ok then gave us menus while we waited

I wanted to send highlight some positive feedback following a trip my wife, son and I had to the Gateshead Metrocentre Wagamama restaurant on the early afternoon of Thursday 14th December 2017.

We love this restaurant as everything you order is cooked fresh in view of the diners. The food didn’t come to the table all at once. It comes in order of what has cooked first so you get it fresh and hot. The food is very Japanese / Thai themed with spices prawns noodles chicken broths and rice. Their drinks are fruit or vegetable smoothies again freshly made. Ideal restaurant for all ages. My 9 year old eats the Firecracker which is extremely spicy hot.

We can’t seem to get enough of this place! We love it’s fresh food and it’s authentic taste! Our 5 year old daughter is a Wagamama addict! :) She would choose Wagamama over any other restaurant around including the big McDs and BK!

I must say the cuisine and choices available on the menu were very poor to put it mildly.

Alex was a great help with my vegan friend and my other friend who had never been before. Recommended dishes which were excellent and it was a pleasure to be served by her.

I visit Wagamama a lot and never shy away from trying something new each time. The staff are always friendly and their service is great I couldn’t fault it. The food is delicious!

Another 5 star visit to this amazing restaurant. As always the food was spectacular, duck donburi for me and steak bulgogi for my friend, gyoza and raw salad on the side. Brilliant friendly service as well
