Spice Connection in Gateshead

I should have written a review a long time ago since Spice Connection is my local go-to restaurant and takeaway. Its always a pleasure to visit as the staff are so welcoming. The food is of the highest quality, always served piping hot. Takeaways are excellent but if you're nearby I'd definitely take the opportunity to have a meal in the restaurant.

After my second time ordering for takeout here I felt the urge to leave a good review based on how well I’ve been treated by the staff here, first time I came a younger man served me and he was friendly and I left with a good impression, then tried the Tarka Dal I ordered and it was flavourful, the ideal consistency and price for a side portion. Then, the second time I arrived 15 minutes before closing, after trying to order online and my phone dying I had to order in person and I apologised for the inconvenience of coming so late but they made the order with no issue or fuss. I highly recommend to anyone to give this place a try. The food was just as nice the second time too. Reliable, great service and delicious food. Thank you!

I have seen 1st restaurant which has matar Paneer, Dar tadka, palak paneer and all such stuff in side order.. and you can't just order such items with rice n chapati because those are kept in sides not in the main course... You have to order per person one such thing which you may not know what it is... For vegetarians it is just a vegetable without any description... How arrogant the owner is you can see from his reply even before i wrote my feedback. There are many Indian restaurants in the town who serve you good food and treat you well for example... Mydelhi, Simla, Dosa Kitchen, Thali Tray, Chak Dhoom, dabbawal etc... better to try them.

Food delicious, however this was after reheating as luke warm

Three times recently we have had a wonderful time at Spice Connection, everything we ate was fresh and very tasty. Staff are helpful and attentive and prices are reasonable. Good selection of beers and spirits

Food very nice but restaurant very cold

First time we have eaten on the premises, the food was beautiful despite waiting for over an hour for main meals onlt, mine wasn't very warm, and the temperature in the restaurant was baltic, we normally use the take away service which is faultless, but the biggest improvement to be made in the restaurant is turn on the heating.

Got a take out tonight everything was amazing got the 5 course special food came piping hot lovely sized portions for reasonable price first time trying and definitely will be going back couldn't fault the food very tasty

Absolutely amazing experience for 6 of us to celebrate a birthday, every single mouthful was divine, we cannot recommend highly enough. Very warm welcome from host and so reasonably and competitively priced.

4 of us came here for the brilliant value 5 course Thursday menu at around £15 a head. A huge choice of starters and mains, plus a rice each, and a naan and side for 2 to share. The food was outstanding. Onion bhajis were a real hit and chicken chat very good too. Our mains ranged from a great chicken tikka massala, tasty chicken chill garlic, my favourite chicken tikka podina to birthday girls bhuna. Every one a hit. Rice and naan were spot on and, even though we couldn’t finish, the mushroom bhaji and chips were good too. As if we’d not had enough value coffee and after eights were also included. Their wine list is small but, just like the food, excellent value. At a time where prices can be silly they really are offering brilliant value with this offer.

Order a set meal for 2 .Telephone as 15 minutes late to be told it was on its way. After 30 minutes late called to cancel meal no reply 45 minutes later arrived with meal .no apology no explanation. If you want a meal on time do not order from here.

We eat here once a month and there's always a warm welcome from the staff. The food is well prepared, and I don't recall being disappointed by ameal. We've tried other local restaurants serving Indian food but always return to Spice Connection. Poppadoms are a good size, and there is a selection of 4 pickles. The spicy pickle is very nice and disappears far too quickly. For a starter, I would recommend the flavoursome Kashmiri Aloo Chat, but the Onion Bhaji's and Mixed Kebab also get a thumbs up. For a main, one of our party swears by the Chicken Tilka Naga Chilli (one for those who like a little extra kick). I usually waiver between a Chicken Tikka Ceylon and one of the Lamb dishes (Lamb Adraki - one for those who like their ginger). The garlic naan is always fresh with a generous topping of garlic butter (however, I am reliably informed that the garlic, chilli, and coriander naan is very nice too). No rice for us as we're always full just with the naan. For a Poppadom, pickles, starter curry, naan, a large bottle of Cobra, and a coffee, we pay around £28/£29 each, including a tip. The only thing to note is that the toilets are upstairs, so if you have any mobility issues, you need to be aware.

7 people - £180 with bottles of wine etc. Not bad. Food very impressive. Not a single thing we didn't like here and the owner was particularly cheerful and explained how he buys all the ingredients fresh- clearly makes a big difference to the taste. Other waiting staff perfectly polite but perhaps not as passionate! Saw the highest reviews so chose this resturaunt and I can see why.

Food was well proportioned, tasted good but I'm never sure some dishes should have the red colour! Will use again.

Group of 4 of us turned up just after opening. Despite having a full restaurant booked in they fitted us in. Service was exemplary, polite and cheerful. We had, fish tikka, chicken tikka, poppadoms and garlic naans to start. Mushroom pilau, chicken vindaloo, king Prawn dhansak, king Prawn biryani, and various sides. I could go through and say in detail how every dish was. I won't bother as all was as close to perfect as you can get. All served piping hot. Despite being very busy, service was quick and we never felt rushed. Definitely be back

I eat curry (always a lamb madras) from everywhere across Britain. We came about this restaurant by looking at reviews on trip advisor. we were in Gateshead celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary and decided to finish the evening with a curry as we usually do. With hand on heart I can honestly say this was the best lamb madras I have ever tasted (and I originate from Bradford) full of all the necessary herbs and spices an excellent curry should have, they didn't skimp on the oh so tender meat either. My wife had lamb rogan josh and likewise was extremely impressed, first time she has ever cleared her plate!!! The staff were extremely polite and very professional in what the did. I must add that whilst we were waiting for our meal the amount of takeaways going out spoke for themselves and ensured in us that we were indeed in a very special Indian restaurant.

Had several lovely meals in the restaurant. Tonight was my first take-away meal from them. The food was just amazing from the onion Bhajis to the main course. Superb food and service. You've just gotta try this restaurant.

Genuinely the best curry I have ever had. The food is incredibly flavoursome, with great ingredients. I live in London but was visiting family in the North East and we got a takeaway from Spice Connection. All of us couldn’t believe how wonderful this curry is. I ordered the paneer tikka masala (but asked for it to be made with a bit more spice). The restaurant made this perfectly. The masala chips are also delicious; lovely big chunks of potato in a spicy dressing. I can’t wait to come back to Spice Connection next time I’m in the North East.

Best Indian takeaway I’ve had in a long time. Tried most other Indian takeaways in the area and nothing comes close to this! Lamb so tender and everything’s so tasty! We didn’t sit in but staff on phone were lovely and when collecting service was very good. Definitely our go to Indians now!

We ate from the Thursday value menu in the dining area, we were offered red house wine which was super tasty, the full menu was divine, the waiters were very friendly and I wouldn’t hesitate to eat in or order from here again :)

Had never been here before and can honestly say I feel like I have missed out. We arrived just after 6pm on a Wednesday and we had a fantastic meal. The place was empty as we thought it might be at that time, but we were seated and drinks ordered and received super quickly. Opted for the set meal for 2 and it was amazing. Poppadoms, dips, onion bahjis and chicken tikka starters then rice, curries and naan bread followed by coffees and after-eights. Chicken was cooked perfectly and really good lamb. Partner commented that the naan bread were the best he has ever had, which I agree with. Will definitely be back again.

I have ordered takeaway here on the number of occasions and have dined in the restaurant on and evening a few times as well. All in all the food is fantastic. The biryani and pathia curries are lovely. The staff are really professional and super friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine in low fell!

Honestly think this is one of the best Indian meals I've had. Would definitely recommend 100%. Amazing hosts, absolutely delicious food (Lamb Bhuna was 🤌), generous portion sizes, great value for money. If you want to support local would definitely recommend this place - absolute gem of a place.

We’ve been to this restaurant twice , both times to dine inside, what a lovely friendly welcoming we got both times , the service was fantastic , this food is some of the nicest Indian cuisine I’ve had, you’d expect the portions to be small with it being a special night but to me these were ample sized portions, nothing is to much of a problem for the staff , going again tonight 8th June

Ordered a takeaway delivered for 8 people. The food arrived on time and was hot. We ordered a mixture of starters, sides, mains, rices and breads and we thought it was all outstanding. Will definitely be ordering again.

Picked this up in the restaurant. Instantly had a good first impression with how friendly the staff were. Took home a lamb Ceylon, Rogan Josh and Balti. Meat was tender and flavour of all the curries was rich and delicious. Nan breads were cooked perfectly. No complaints, gonna book this place for my birthday 👍🏻

O my just had the best Indian food ever beef Madras was amazing beef was so tender. Massive portions so enough for tomorrow free popadom and a bottle of expensive cobra was gave to Paul my husband as this was our first time ordering from there. Very easily the best Indian takeaway and restaurant in the bensham/saltwell/low fell area. They’re consistent in good quality dishes in restaurant & takeaway- when you dine in the staff are so lovely, there’s a fantastic variety of dishes & drinks etc. We regularly visit/ order from here & are yet to be disappointed. Absolutely would recommend these guys over and over again 👍🏼

Great curry, brilliant value, good meat to sauce ratio, prompt and friendly service. Find the bread is always doughy and undercooked though. Otherwise would be a 5 star!

Had Madras and for some reason it was like eating a lemon. For some reason the “Chef” decided a Lamb Madras needs a bottle of lemon juice poured in. Never again. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Easily the best curry in Gateshead. Visited recently - the food was superb. Lovely, friendly, attentive staff. Thursday and Sunday meal deal is superb value for money. Couldn’t give any more praise. Excellent.
