Very little lamb- and it was so chewy we got jaw ache and spat it out. Huge chunks of seared (burned but raw) bell pepper swimming in barely spiced tomato sauce. Sort of a failed Indian/Italian fusion. The only thing worse than the food was the service - intrusive and argumentative! It has been bought out since last time …. But this will be the last time we visit!

Nice meal , good price and service. Would go back again. We had poppadoms pickle tray, chicken madras nan, rice. Good portions

Wow absolutely loved 😍 all the dishes, the spicy potato paratha was amazing, samosas absolutely beautiful 😍 and the biriyani was soooo good, definitely my new do to Indian

Excellent - really enjoyed my meal (we both did), two nice curry dishes with a garlic naan to mop up the sauce. Customer service did drop off a cliff when a young family requested a table and once the manager saw the pushchair they were fully booked - restaurant was empty.

A man who wear a white shirt, I think he was a manager, he was very rude, I don't know who employed him. I've been overthere Saturday night, their timetables are on the weekend 5:00pm to 10:30pm,but I went there about 9:40pm. But he didn't access me to dine in.He told me restaurant is closed. That are the two times he did rude behave with me.I love to go Mumbai Indian restaurant.I don't know y they put there timetables on the door.I took him to outside to show him their timetables but he didn't reply me anything about that.I think he doesn't know language well. How did he become a manager, so weird. I never back to them

Worst Indian I’ve had. For the reviewer who said the madras sauce was similar to ketchup they was spot on, it was and it was so sweet. I actually found the staff rather rude, we ordered a pickle tray, couple of popadoms, 2 curry’s, rice, chips and a nan bread and the guy taking our order seemed to turn his nose up that we wasn’t ordering starters. Would rather have gone to mc Donald’s. Avoid.

I don't understand some of the negative reviews posted. I wonder if there is an agenda at work? We live locally and visit quite often, the food is always excellent and the service friendly and efficient. In fact, writing this has made me hungry, we may go again this evening!

Unspectacular, dated South Asian food. The Rogan Josh was tangy and sweet- not the slow stewed, deeply flavoured and richly spiced dish it should be; the Korma was too sweet and tasted like a coconut cream pie- where’s the saffron and cardamom? The rice and naans were very nice, but I couldn’t help but feel like I’d taken a step back into the 80s/90s at a time when modern Indian cuisine is so exciting and varied. I suppose it’s ok for a bit of nostalgia, but my family found it disappointing for the price.

By far the worst food I have had. I am an Indian and trust me this is not Indian food. The Bhuna curry was sweeter than a dessert. The Naan was chewy and rubber

Quite possibly the worst Indian (it's not Indian, the food is clearly bangladesh) I have ever eaten. Tasteless waste of food soaked in oil and over priced, what a horrible little restaurant. Avoid.

If I can give -10 stars I would I have never experienced worst management who let you leave the table after you sat in restaurant for 10min look at the menu and let you go all due to they wanted me to order one meal per person in large family with kids that's too much food for a small group and it's not cheap either. When I asked he said you have to order or get up and leave the table I mean who talks like this in service industry and last thing please remove Indian name from your restaurant it's not indian Punjabi menu it's Bangladeshi menu so please don't misguide people with wrong advertisements. They didn't care of my business which I went across the street with my family to eat Italian food and spent 200 pounds so it's his loose

Very disappointed with restaurant Manager! He is very rud. I order Fish pakora it was raw. I called waiter and he took it back to kitchen. He bring again but same things repeat again (Raw). Then waiter called to manager but manager is not agreed to that fish raw. He try to arguments with me. That is not good as a restaurant manger treating with guests. He must start learn about hospitality, how to talk with customers before he start his career as a restaurant Manager. Rest of food was good with food colours.

Very average Indian food, starters were nice, liked the option of fish pakora however, batter was too thick which made it super oily. Spicy chips are a massive disappointment, just fries with some peri salt, personally wouldn’t class that as spicy chips. Cheese nan was also disappointing, made a plain naan and chucked some cheese on top, not how you make a cheese naan supposed to put the cheese inside the naan, garlic curry was overly spiced with garlic, mrs didn’t even have it. There’s better options out there for Indian food, personally would avoid this place, I’ve got a Indian’s myself in the north east, so I know exactly what I’m talking about 👍🏽

Booked for dinner, 2 adults and 1 child, had starter, pakora and onion bahji very tasty, mains had tikka sizzler with bhuna sauce, the best I had tried, very fragrant, my partner had a seafood curry and really enjoyed this, did a half portion korma for my son and he loved this, superb peswari nan to top off. Good Service as well, thoroughly enjoyed meal. Would return.

I have never met any ruder staff in a restaurant even before I ordered any food. As soon as we sat down we were asked to order. We ordered starters and they insisted on getting the mains order at the same time. They would not understand that we needed time to look through the menu. Absolutely disgusted that in the hospitality industry they are people employed who can be so rude. We were a party of 7 and expected to have a proper meal. I will not be surprised if this restaurant closes in a few months.

Worst place Bottle of water 5 pounds Cheating

Looked quite dismal from outside and not much better inside but after reading reviews thought we would give it a go anyway. Wish we hadn’t what a waste of money. The sauce in my chicken Afghan just tasted like tomato ketchup mixed with Worcestershire sauce with some chilli thrown in. My husband’s Madras was the same. Garlic nan was bright yellow in colour. Curry was inedible and when speaking to the waiter about it he just smirked and walked away !! If you like a good curry don’t come here

Although the starters were ok (Sheekh Kebabs) the mains were on the verge of being inedible. My wife could hardly eat her Chicken Afghan and my Chicken Tikka Madras had so much lemon or lime juice in it; it was horrible. Granted a madras should have Tamarind in it to add a bit of tartness but restaurants often add lemon or lime juice as it’s much cheaper, but to add this much was a disgrace. My wife summed her dish up as a mixture of tomato sauce, Worcester sauce and lemon juice. Won’t return. The waiter asked how our food was so we told him and he just grinned. If you don’t want to hear someone’s opinion don’t ask next time.

We hadn’t booked but had a lovely table in the window, the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We had popadums to start and a Chicken shaslick and Chicken Jalfresei with a bindi side dish, The bindi was delicious not soggy in a sauce but spiced and crisply fried. The Shashlick and Jalfrezi were superb and we left feeling we had enjoyed our food and had good value for money, we would definitely recommend.

The food was that good , if I’d closed my eyes and it was a bit warmer I though I was back in India it was that good , thank you Ally and your team

Had a really great meal there last night, just a quiet evening with a friend the food was first class and the flavours were amazing not just the run of the mill restaurant. Will definitely be going back again

We had dinner here on a Thursday evening with 3 people and were the only visitors. The food didn't taste bad but the portions were very small. So much so that our son had to order another portion of curry with naan bread. We have never experienced that before at an Indian restaurant. Most of the time I don't even finish my portion. Here with ease. I therefore thought the price level was certainly not in proportion to what we got. The bill was over £100 for 4 main courses, 3 portions of naan and some drinks.

Lovely staff, excellent food, reasonably priced. I had the chicken and spinach main (Handi Saag) with Bombay Aloo side, both delicious. Will go back next time we’re in Kendal. Would recommend.

New management, so took a chance, only their second night open with a new chef. Have to say that all four main meals were cooked beautifully. Great standard of food, really tasty and well presented. Nice quick and friendly service too. Would definitely recommend. Thank you x

Authentic Indian fare suitable for the Indian palate. Staff very courteous and accommodated our special requests for a young child. Takeaway twice in two evenings and thoroughly enjoyed!

Outstanding! Well worth a visit .. really wonderful food, nicely presented, great service and proper tablecloths and napkins (not cheap throwaway paper.) We ordered chicken korai and garlic chilli masala, also chicken. Both served bubbling hot, extremely tasty, an experienced combination of ingredients and spices .. and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Nice place and very tasty food. Big portions. We tried many dishes but Tika chicken mint yoghurt and naan bread with cheese and onion were the best.

Thank you for a really nice meal this evening, Working a long way from home and staying in Kendal turned up not dressed the smartest but still made to feel welcome. Had a really lovely meal one of the best curry’s I’ve had in a long while (And I’ve had a fair few). Draught Cobra was really good too. Thanks again was a really enjoyable meal.

No where near compared to what you would get in Mumbai, but compared to what we get in UK it was not bad. A bit costly though. Ordered chicken shahlik which had about 8 chicken cubes and then a roasted onion, 2 tomatoes and red pepper for £20! For 3 mains, 2 nans, 2 parathas and 2 cobra the bill was £80. I guess midlands is bit economical and tasty. Parathas was from Shan's frozen pack, put some effort in cooking mate:(

Food was decent but 20 pounds a head for a curry and a soft drink was considerably more than we pay in Birmingham for this level of Indian restaurant. Perhaps we don't know how lucky we are.

Food not to my taste. Starter was not hot enough and curry was well not for me The restaurant was quite cold didn't take our coats off.

We're from the Midlands so know our curries. The location is close to the centre. Nice surroundings, nice food but not the cheapest

Muy buena comida india en kendall

Came here for my birthday meal with my boyfriend as we’ve never tried it before. The food was insanely good. I can definitely recommend the vegetable madras, it was gorgeous! He also really enjoyed his butter chicken. We also had a spicy popadom (which I would call more aromatic than spicy but it was a pleasant surprise!), veg samosa, butter naan and a side of tarka dal (which did end up being too garlicky for me in the end). The food was delicious, we found it very well priced. Service was prompt also ☺️ I’m sure we will return at some point in the future 🥰

Excellent Food! This is our go to takeaway! We have been using it for many years! The food is always excellent and portions are very good. We usually have enough left for the following day. Staff always polite and obliging. Only problem currently is that the prices have risen very much since the pandemic so this makes us need to think twice before ordering these days! Understand that staff come from Bradford every day !

We were the only couple in, which was a shame, great food and the service was top class. These businesses need custom or they won't survive.

Decent place in Kendal for South Asian food. A bit on the expensive side and the food took a while to arrive, however it was tasty once we got it.

Enjoyed stunning meal with plenty spices, however found it more expensive than other restraunts and was very disappointed as for first time we have ever visited an indian restraunt we were never offered any complimentry chocs or mints when paying the bill.

I read a while ago rather disparaging reviews on the Mumbai Restaurant in Kendal. To be fair it put me off giving it a go. I'd like to put this to bed here and now, I have visited this restaurant on two occasions recently, first time with a couple of friends and recently on my own. Both times I,/ we, have been greeted with charm, smiling faces, and friendliness. The food here was absolutely spot on on both occasions. The only complaint if you can call it that, was the room was cold but in this current situation what can you say! My biggest problem living alone, is getting a table for one, so hence the two visits, once with friends and then alone which was absolutely no problem. Mr Allah who manages the establishment informs me that he has run the place for eighteen years. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It is a bit pricey but hey, we live in difficult times. I would strongly recommend it. 2 Poppadum's, Pickle tray, Sheik Kebab, Garlic chilli chicken, Mushroom rice, Peshawari naan, A pint of Cobra. £41.25 What I didn't eat was taken home in a take-out bag.

The food is very good and the service is pleasant. Very expensive though - almost double what we usually pay. I'm gluten free which wasn't an issue but they only had a single bottle of GF beer in stock!

Food and service excellent, 4 stars based on price, a little pricey but I guess for area ok. As said beer and food very tasty.

Quite quiet on arrival. Ambience improved after a wee while. The food was really good and the staff were very attentive.

Exceptional quality, but a bit expensive. The chicken was fresh and juicy, the onion bhaji so light and fluffy that it practically blew away, so even the kids stuffed themselves. But at about £12-13 for a main it can't be the staple curry supply.

Clean & tidy place with friendly attentive staff. Went with 3 friends for dinner and very much enjoyed the mixed platter starter, not cheap but well worth the price just below £25, for the amount of food presented. The pilau rice & nan breads were good but I confess I was not too impressed with the main dish as I felt it was over sauced & lacked substance when compared with other Indian restaurants I have used.

Really enjoyable meal out. Food looked and tasted delicious with each dish actually tasting like individual meals packed with flavour. Service was also wonderful with waiters being extremely polite and food coming fast.

Slightly on the spicy side. Being from India, I can make out the difference between traditional Indian cuisine vs something which is not. This is not but having said that it is not bad. If you are looking for Indian-ish cuisine, this is ok for that.

This service of the restaurant is good and staff are very nice and polite . While the name says Mumbai restaurant , the dishes (vegetarian) are not Indian flavor. In my view it tastes more from Bangladeshi cuisine. Nevertheless , it was still good. Limited options for vegetarian, but would definitely recommend to try .

Went to have a nice evening meal but greatly disappointed. Ordered Meat samosa and received veg samosa. Taste was horrible. Never ordered beer but the waiter came with two glasses of beer. Total mess. Returned the drinks and samosa. Meat Bhuna was full of chilli and sugar. No salad was served with food. Staff was horrible instead of apology started arguing. They are not Indian chef but using Indian food menu to make customer fool. Charge you top dollar for the ru bish food. Stay waway from this place and save your money and time. Taste of hell on earth.

Most horrible taste of Indian food. It's an insult to Indian cuisine. Pretend to be Indian restaurant but nowhere the taste seemed to be Indian. My Bhuna dish was full of sweet stuff with loads of chilli to kill the sweetness . Avoid this place if you can and go to McDonald's instead . Atleast you get what you order. Horrible staff and rubbish food. Don't want to give even one star

Very nice experience here on a quiet evening which was very peaceful. A rather clumsy service to begin with but apart from that it was very well done! The starters provide a large substantial quantity of food which was cooked perfectly and presented very neatly. Drinks came quick and efficiently and I really enjoyed a delicious main course. Food here is perfect didn't have any issues. It has excellent potential in the future, just lacking quality in the service slightly but overall a very nice night out, would certainly recommend and I'd definitely go back again.

The food was really tasty & well presented. Our waiter was very attentive & respected our space & privacy. We would definitely return when next in Kendal. The only thing we would suggest is to have hot plates for the food to extend the good experience.

Only sampled the takeaways but always good, great biryanis and jalfrezis. Food always on time and piping hot as well as delicious!

The food at this restaurant is unbelievably good. The service is excellent and very on point. I had a liqueur coffee and without a doubt if is the best liqueur coffee I have had for the longest time.

We had to try out the local Indian restaurant on our last day in Kendal, Lake District. The service was good, polite staff. My starter was samosa which was far too thick pastry but the lamb filling was very tasty. My main course chilli garlic lamb made it hot for me dish was lovely but too oily too much oil was used my husbands starter was lovely, Tandoori chicken but main course, lamb jalfrasi was far too oily and couldn't taste the dish. My sons food was nice but could of done with more chicken. Overall average, still doesn't beat Birmingham Indian restaurants.

Daal was good Chapati was no where near to fresh made one. it could have been lot better if the chef makes the chapati from fresh dough

(sorry no photos, I was too eager tucking into dee-licious food! 🤤) I had a vegetable Pathia and Garlic naan, plus a Vegetable Samosa... and the samosa was good, but the Pathia was a taste sensation! My wife enjoyed a vegetable Bhuna & mushroom rice (which I tried, the rice was superb!) She also had a tarka dahl and loved it all. We'd eaten at a different Asian retaurant last night in Kendal and been unimpressed, with both the flavours, and the bill wasn't exactly cheap. Tonight at the Mumbai we had one drink, but otherwise the same number of dishes between us -and the bill was £10 cheaper! We will definitely be eating here again the next time we're in Kendal, superb! 👌

Nice food but staff not very friendly no kids menu when I asked for it was told bluntly by bar staff. we arrived 10 minutes early i asked if we could wait in foyer which they weren't keen on but seemed to let a large group later just stand there with no problem....felt very rushed when ordering and I had to ask can we start with a drink? The younger waiter who served our food was very nice pity the older staff don't follow this.

Despite being full to the rafters, the team managed to seat me and my friend without a reservation. They were exceedingly busy that night but patient and polite throughout. Service was quick and the food was excellent.

Had not booked but was made welcome and not rushed. Despite being busy food was excellent and came out in a reasonable time.

First visit, friendly welcome nice choice of dishes at a reasonable price. Sharing starter was well worth the money. Would visit again if in the area.

Dinner with my family on 18 August whilst vacating in the area. Overall good service and edible food. The wine list is limited.

Popadoms were a little stale but main courses very good. Peas pilau made at special request. Wine was quality and reasonable value.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by the manager of the shop, very late delays, no customer service respect, absolutely disgusted from the behaviour. Wouldn’t suggest to any family people.
