Food was quite nice, and did not take too long to get prepared (15 minutes?) They were out of a few things. By far the biggest inconvenience was not accepting card at all

Absolutely delicious - fresh and tasty - highly recommend the vegetable biryani and the chicken korma. Peshwari Nan was amazing and loved the onion bhaji - it was the best Indian meal I have had for a long time. We will be back. (please do mango chutney in your pickle tray!).

I put in a large order (for 28 people) and Imran helped me build a really good selection of starters, mains and side dishes. And all for a good price per head. Everything was freshly prepared and ready bang on time. The meal was really well received by all concerned. Very impressed! Will use again.

Having spent £30 on this takeaway we were really disappointed and threw 90% of it away. It was disgusting. My wife found a hair in her chips. The popadoms were stale, both curries were so oily I was spooning it off. The curries were very bland. Really disappointing as we were looking forward to it and was having it as a treat to celebrate some news. We won’t be going back and won’t be recommending it.

I've never been disappointed with the food from British Raj. Delicious and generous portions. Great selection of dishes. My order was taken by a really polite gentleman and ready for collection exactly as advised.

Food seemed ok, spicy rather than very hot, but the place is dirty and scruffy. Won't be going again. Not worth the risk hygeine-wise.

We ordered a takeaway and collected it. All our items were vegan or veggie side dishes. A very tasty takeaway. Probably the biggest onion bhaji I’ve ever seen or eaten. The service was prompt and good value for money.

One of the worst Indian takeaway I had in a long time. I ordered a lamb naga but got chicken instead and for a Naga, it lacked the spice. It was also really hard to cut into the 1/4 Tandoori chicken. The pilau rice was more white than yellow and in total costed about £30 for 2 people. I do not recommend this place honestly.

I am sorry to say but the food was not even average in taste. Unfortunately, we have had to keep most of the food aside due to . I would rather stay hungry rather getting food from this takeway.

We ate from this Indian takeaway a few times, during our Lake District holiday in August 2021. They have a variety of traditional Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine on the menu, all cooked in their open kitchen, so you get to enjoy seeing your meal being cooked. We found the food very tasty and the staff very helpful. The prices were surprisingly cheap for the location (just on the border of the Lake District). We paid double the price for a king prawn curry from one of the nearby Indian restaurants. If ordering from the British Raj takeaway, I would strongly suggest that you phone them beforehand to make sure they will be open when you get there. They can sometimes close before their published closing time (when business is quiet, they said to me). I have now corrected their opening hours on Google for them (with their permission). This reflects their new reduced opening hours. Overall, I would give them the maximum rating of 5 stars, as they were very helpful and we enjoyed their food, the few times we ate from there.

My partner and I love curry and have lots of take out and eat in meals. This was one of the best Indian take aways we've had. Very quirky place with the chefs cooking by the counter. Very good value. Would really recommend.

We ordered the chicken tikka shashlik ( which I highly recommend) and a dansak and a lamb bhuna.. all was as delicious and spot on as always..great indian food

We were looking forward to getting our first curry from here as we have passed it a few times when we visited Kendal. We ordered the special Butter Chicken, Chicken Balti and mushroom rice. The butter chicken was like water and seemed to be just condensed milk with some coconut flakes in it and the Balti was so bland , watery and tasteless. A shame we won't be spending our money in here and looking for a better Indian in Kendal if possible.

Really pathetic food experience. Ordered mix grill and cheez and onion naan.. the chicken tikka piece in the mixed grill was almost burnt and so hard. The other chicken pieces were also like rubber. Not good at all.. we were just looking for some halal place and I am really disappointed 😞

We had been looking forward to our curry all day but when I arrived to collect the man behind cou ter was not best pleased as we didn't order any breads ( why no bread he asked ) . The Chicken Dhansak was taste less and cold as was the rice my wife's main meal was ok , we have used this takeaway for 4 years but won't be going back again .

I was staying around the area as I visited the Lake District and came across this Indian takeaway on Google so decided to visit. They have a wide range of menu options for you to choose from. While you wait you can see your food being prepared in front of you since the kitchen is behind the counter, I thought that was pretty cool as that's usually never the case, this gave me confidence I was going to have good food. The food was really good and very flavoursome, I would've tried more if I could fit more in me. I got chatting to the owner and the staff as you do, they were really nice, friendly and made me feel welcome to Kendal, they were kind enough to chuck in the nan and a curry for free! I will definitely be back here if I am around. Thank you!

Best place to get takeaway curry in kendal unfortunately they dont deliver and is cash only which is a shame. Good quality food and reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and welcoming nothing is to much trouble. All food is cooked in a open kitchen so you can see it cooked while you wait but also can phone order through in advance n pick up.

Just travelled 25 minutes from Kirkby Lonsdale for the best Indian meal once again Thank you 👍thanks once again will be back next week

He usado este indio varias veces por rapidez cuando quiero este tipo de comida ya que no está muy lejos de donde vivo. La comida suele estar lista a la llegada después de ordenar por teléfono y siempre está caliente y sabe bien. El único problema es que cada vez que tomo un plato de aquí, lucho por salir del baño esa noche; nunca ha sucedido en otros indios, así que no es porque sea un plato picante picante a menos que clasifiques korma o tikka picante. Aunque debo admitir que prefiero disfrutar de su pashwari naan

Somos locales para este indio y lo preferimos a las otras casas de curry en la ciudad. Es solo para llevar y las cocinas están abiertas y a la vista. Nunca he tenido una mala comida de aquí, pero he encontrado un domingo que el arroz vegetal carece de verduras. Solo tenemos una comida para llevar una vez al mes y los evitaremos los domingos. Vamos British Raj por lo demás, la comida es estupenda.

Siempre me ha gustado mucho la comida, el personal siempre ayuda con los requisitos dietéticos (en realidad, no solo responda sí / no, lo que siempre es una ventaja) y es amigable y eficiente. Sin embargo, diré que si te gustan las especias, es una buena idea conseguir uno de los platos más calientes, ya que a veces los platos pueden ser un poco suaves.

Ordenamos por teléfono y recogimos. Verificamos específicamente si la comida que habíamos pedido era vegetariana y nos dijeron que era. Cuando llegamos a casa, uno de los platos tenía pollo. Telefoneamos y nos quejamos, pero no sentimos que entendieran la gravedad de la queja. Nos dijeron que pidiera un descuento la próxima vez que visitamos. Ningún daño nos llegó porque pudimos reconocer los trozos de pollo. ¿Qué hubiera pasado si fuera un ingrediente que alguien también fuera alérgico y no fuera claramente visible? Nunca más nos arriesgaremos en esta comida para llevar.

Meat found in a vegetarian dish. We checked when ordering that the dish was vegetarian and had no meat in it and were specifically told it was. vegetarian. When we got it home it had chicken in it. We complained but we don't think they understood the seriousness of our complaint. No harm was done to us but what if it had been something that we were allergic to and we had not spotted it?

Almost 3 years in Kendal living a stone throw away, have visited only twice which speaks for itself. Even after asking for keeping it hot, the dish karahi was quite bland. Don't know why don't takeaways add raw tomato and bell peppers, when it is supposed to be tempered with ground spices and added over the curry while giving the finishing touch.

Staff were rude, i got 2 kormas and 3 naan breads, when i said i wanted no rice they all started laughing at me and charged me £20.55 when a kormas £4.95 each and naan breads are £1.90 each! There was lots of laughter and one young lad looked really embarrassed and kept giving me reassuring looks! This isn't the first time this has happened here

I personally LOVE any Indian takeaway/restaurant but I must say other Indians in Kendal have disappointed me in the past, this place however never has! Their dishes are so tasty and huge portions for not a lot of money! Staff are so helpful and friendly and I especially like the fact that at Christmas time they give out Christmas cards to all their customers, lovely little touch! Couldn't recommend this place enough :)

The worst Indian food ever I have tasted. One dish didn't have any salt and other dish was just chilli powder and water. I went there by reading reviews and was highly disappointed !

Somewhat of a weekly tradition getting a takeaway from here. From a family of foodie folk the food from here gets thumbs up every time.

We wanted a decent curry as there don’t seem to be many of them about in the Lake District. I consider myself a bit of a curry-hollic and a bit fussy when it comes to my Jalfreizies. Id read the reviews about this place and it seemed to be quite good. We’ve tried one of the Indian restaurants in Kendal and it was atrocious so the British Raj didn’t have to go to far to be better than one we’d had already. I have to say that the food here was quite good. I’m not going to say it was brilliant, but the jalfrazei was decent. The keema rice and keema naan were excellent. So all in all I was quite pleased. And the portions were very generous. I reckon there must have been two chicken breasts in my main course. My partner had the chicken korma and she was equally pleased. Well done. I will definitely be using this place again.

This is one of the best Indian takeaways I have had. I tend to prefer to go to a restaurant for Indian cuisine, but British Raj provides excellent food, at very good prices, so it's the first choice in Kendal. The front of house counter and kitchen shows a well maintained and clean environment. The counter assistant is friendly and patient, even at very busy times.

Been a family favourite for 21 years. We come most Sundays and the food is always divine. Enormous, succulent King Prawns, scrumptiously soft naan breads, delectable sauces and wonderful service. I never found a place in Edinburgh or London that could compare.

Raw bloody chicken!! Not good at all

We went to this take away despite reading about its faults on Trip Advisor and I’m afraid to say that the previous comments about poor quality food are correct. I ordered a chicken madras which was very watery and the chicken very tough the watery curry spoilt the taste because it made the curry tasteless My wife’s meal was the same. Because we were staying in a caravan 10 minutes drive away I couldn’t be bothered to take it back instead most of it ended up in the bin. Very poor quality food, will not be recommending this take away or using it again.

Personally, I think this is the best Indian takeaway in Kendal. The staff are always so polite and lovely. Food is always so tasty. Worth every penny! Always look forward to a take away from here!!

Good prices and you get a great amount for what you pay - they do however only take cash but they will happily point out the nearest cash machine. You are able to ring up and make your order as well as order and wait.

A fabulous little place, in the Center of town. With friendly staff (who when the extra mile) and service that made me feel welcome, I would recommend this little curry house to anyone who is in the area... try the Bombay potatoes! Very tasty. Great for sit in service or takeaway.

This fortunately is our local takeaway. The meals are of good quality, plenty of choice and reasonably priced. The onion Bajis are a delight.

Did not rate this place, ordered a takeout last night and one of the butter chicken's was a very strange texture and didn't taste the best. however on waking up this morning I now have food poisoning. Not one of the best Indians i've had.

Ahora el fallo menor y que es el que se indica anteriormente por otros cuando lleno y me refiero a este lugar se estaban atestados a veces ocupado, la calidad puede sufrir un poco. Siempre tienden a llamar temprano y la comida es excelente y, como expresé antes los chicos que trabajan allí son siempre amable y sonriente. Así que, en un gran para llevar con una comida muy sabrosa.

Best Indian takeaway in Kendal by a long way. I've lived in Kendal since 1990 and during that time I've eaten food from most restaurants and takeaways and this is my favourite by a long way. The food is always tasty with generous spicing. Their naans are the best this side of Bradford and the daal is exceptional. The guys who cook here are more than willing and capable of adjusting the spicing to your liking. The menu is extensive and very well priced. They do get very busy so put the number in your phone and call 20-30 minutes in advance. Opens at 5.30pm 'til 11pm.

Best food ever and overfills plate and very cheap 2 chicken tika with 1 plain rice will to 2 people and a bit left over and that cost 12 quid it's the best so don't go to other places you will miss out on its food just go and try it out

British Raj was good when it opened up a few years ago, but in my opinion it has gone down hill a lot. I believe now they are cutting quality and costs and just interested in money.......The last few meals I have had haven't been good, one time I heard a employee ask the manager if he should use old food / leftovers also the amount of breast chicken meat has been replaced with mixed thigh meat not good, the sauces are not very good very watery and slimy.I used to spend £20 at least a month there but I make my own better curry at home now.Although its a open kitchen all the food is pre cooked and all they do is warm it up when you order, I have had the tandoori mixed grill twice that was dry as a bone and I suspect days old just heated up.The only thing cooked fresh in there are Nan bread's and King prawns, the rest of the entire menu is pre cooked in huge big tubs that they re heat, I have no problem with that, but when I got a week old chicken madras that's when I stopped going in.After being a loyal customer for so long I gave it a chance but the last 5 visits to British Raj have not been good.

As a Takeaway only, this is the best in Kendal. Portions are good and there is a good choice on the menu at a reasonable cost.can get very busy at times so telephone an order if you can to avoid waiting time.

Its the best place to go for Indian food I looj the over sized portion 1 portion is for 2 people by the way.So meal for 2 I 1 curry 1 rice cheap to am not kiding 11 pound feeds 2 people full plates.

There are not many Indian takeaways in the Lake District, but we located this one. We ordered and waited, not very long for the meal. Took it back and found it was exactly what we had ordered and tasted very nice.

As a regular customer I can easily say this is the best Indian takeaway In Kendal and the surrounding area. Never had a bad one. Always consistent. Naan and onion bajhis are perfect! One thing is the open kitchen which is good.

Consistently good Indian take a way that we use quite a lot. It has fast , pleasant service and excellent curries and I like the chicken biryani best.

After going for a Friday night curry we sat down to eat a poor effort normally very good this time not, with water running out of mine and my wife's not good either chips were cold don't know what happened tonite guys
