Shifnal Balti in Shropshire

Myself and 19 other friends had a pre organised reservation at Shifnal Balti for 18:30 on Saturday the 14th of December. Our group where expected and we where shown to our 2 tables of 10 adjacent to one another. The waiter then told us he was going to place us all on one bill and we could split the bill at the end to which we replied we wanted to place the orders as couples and singles as we had different preferences and would like to pay separately. After approximately 40 minutes we were then passed bits of paper and pens and asked to write down our orders, which we did then after 15 minutes later we where then asked to write the prices of each item on the pieces of paper. Over an hour and we hadn’t had a drink order taken, we even had to ask for water and glasses for our table, on arrival it was noted that only 4 glasses where on the table of 10! 1hr 20mins after arrival still no orders for food taken people where getting frustrated, I was then approached whilst I was sitting down by a female member of staff who stood over me I hadn’t communicated with her at any stage and she said in a loud voice this isn’t the way we do things here! and you are not welcome here! I think she was referring to the whole group but directed it at me. with out saying a word I got up put my coat on and left this establishment closely followed by every member of the party! Disorganised and Rude about sums up our groups experience of Shifnal Balti, I would like to conclude with a massive thank you to Mins Cantonese for the warm efficient way in which they accommodated us setting up 2 tables of 10 getting everyone drinks in moments and the lovely food! swiftly and efficiently,Thank you!

A Faz Marchie is a must at Shifnal Balti. To me, at the moment, one of the best dishes you'll get in Shropshire.

Went for a family meal to exchange Xmas presents etc as it’s the last chance to do so and we chose here as it’s won a lot of awards. Simply we will not go here ever again and will always choose the Admiral Spice (Baschurch) as it serves unbelievable food and the staff are so much better and more welcoming. The atmosphere was horrendous, so dark, crowded (tables of people just squeezed in), very loud and just terrible service and no structure, all the servers were just doing a free for all to every table. Based on my meal (lamb Naga) I was blown away by how bad it was! No spice (hottest curry on the menu), no flavour (Naga chilli being one of the most flavoursome chilli’s), the garlic fried rice was lacking garlic and the naan bread (garlic and coriander) seemed to be shop bought and lacked flavour as well. I would highly recommend you avoid this place at all costs and go anywhere else. They do not deserve their awards at all!

Nice food but extremely disappointing service. We booked a table of 9 which included 4 young children. I wouldn't say the restaurant was overly busy when we arrived, however it took over 45 mins for anyone our order for drinks let alone food! After several prompts to take our order, it must have been an hour in before our food order was taken. Our party at this point had enough, the children were starving and restless. Some in our party wanted to move on, but we agreed to stick it out. We had requested that the children's meals come out first and alongside adult starters but unfortunately they arrived with the rest of the mains. Also some dishes unfortunately failed to arrive. The food when it arrived was nice, but the evening was unfortunately ruined by the poor service. Finally when the bill arrived, there was over £70 of items that we hadn't ordered and we were still being charged for items that we'd ordered but hadn't arrived. I understand this was down to a computer error and some dishes had been doubled counted, so not an intentional mistake by the restaurant but unfortunately added to the overall poor service. I had also paid a deposit which was not reflected in the final bill, but I didn't realise this until next day. Overall very disappointing evening and wish we'd booked elsewhere. Tbf the food was nice when it arrived, but unlikely to return due to terrible service.

We booked a table for 12 people at 8 for a retirement meal. We were sat as two seperate tables of 6 behind each other. We waited 1 hour and 5 minutes for drinks, after ordering them 30 minutes after sitting down and having to ask for someone to take the order. We then ordered food and after 1 hour 20 minutes were asked if everything was ok. I replied with yes but just waiting on starters, to be responded to by a waiter with ‘well your going to have to wait, it’s a restaurant, not a takeaway’ The service is appalling! The attitude of the staff is unacceptable! I would never recommend anyone to come here as the service we received was completely unacceptable. If the restaurant cannot handle how busy the establishment is they should not be taking bookings for so many people. I am completely dissatisfied and would very much appreciate a response as soon as possible as our evening was ruined by the table seating and appalling service we received.

Awful experience, never had a problem before but after booking a table for 10 of us when we arrived the place was so busy it was obvious they hadn't saved room for our booking, noone acknowledged they made a mistake and we waited half an hour to be seated. Shortly after this the table next to us left because there food was taking so long.... It then took 2 hours for our food to come out so was 10.30 before we even got our food! The servers were rude and didn't even apologise for an inconvenience. I'm happy to wait if there was an explanation or a sorry but it wasn' t mentioned at any point. One of the servers was rude to a young waitress calling her useless and one of our party stepped in and told them they were out of order. even then we didn't get an apology, food was ok but not convinced we even got the food we had actually ordered as a few people had ordered different curries but they tasted the same. Then after all that they tried to charge is for an extra bottle of prosecco we hadn't had! Such ashame as we have never had a problem ever before....

Are there last night with my partner, first time in a while and was a little disappointed first I had to pay £5 to reserve my table which isn’t a problem , then they get the order slightly wrong again not a problem still ate it and enjoyed it when I asked for the bill they sent me someone else’s, I sent that back and got my correct bill once I got home I realised they never took my £5 reservation charge of the bill so had extra money from me for very disorganised service, don’t think I will be back for a while which is a shame as every other time I’ve been there they’ve been excellent

Ordered a takeaway on the basis they had won awards, hadn’t arrived 30 mins after they estimated. Rang resturant told me it’s on its way without even asking my name or address. Had to warm it up as was Luke warm, curry very average won’t be ordering again. .

Suleiman (sp?) is great! He always greets us with a smile, pleasant, and funny conversation, and he makes sure we're taken care of while we're there. He's definitely a benefit to the restaurant!

been here a few times over recent years, food was ok , paid bill at the table after meal but hadnt finished our drinks, after about 5mins a waitress come and asked us to leave because someone was waiting for a table although there was plenty of tables empty. very rude, not expected .

Great award winning Indian restaurant in the heart of Shifnal. Lovely decor, delightful staff, comprehensive menu (with very reasonable prices) ....and absolutely delicious food. Nothing not to like!

Dreadful experience!50 mins, no sign of food! 2 tables occupied. Party of 8+ fighting & very upset, they did not get their food even after 2 hours, they told us as we were leaving. Worried our food would be very bad too. We left as we were very hungry came in on time and did not get food. I am quite shocked how did Shifnal Balti get the best award, on what basis?? 🤯Very Poor place!!🫨 very sad experience as well as we were celebrating an event and we do not live in shifnal either!

Great night out. Staff super friendly - kept checking to make sure we were happy with everything. Special mixed dish made as we couldn’t make up our mind between two different options. Catered well for dairy free options as well. Atmosphere was great too. All round a super experience - recommended.

We were new to this place but the staff was rude indeed!!! We came to this place late night as we were back from our short trip and on the way to have dine a in ... We wanted to have something light so we ordered a single meal n coke .... But we were told after ordering that we can't order single dish...next time when we order when we come it needs to be 2 items minimum!!!! About the food ...it was not so good with the service so slow!!!

Haven’t been here for a while so thought we would give it another go. It took a long time for the food to arrive and when it did it was not good. Micro portion of paneer tikka which was at best luke warm, other dishes also tepid. There was a live singer that was far too loud to talk and enjoy the evening. Staff were mixed but didn’t care if the food was good or not - nobody asked if the food was ok! Overall a waste of money and we won’t go back.

Wednesday evening. Service great when we arrived. Got drinks and poppadoms within 5 mins. However...when they eventually took our mains order they didn't even clear our empty starter plates for ages. Just left them there. Then we waited around an hour for our mains. Food was good but we were so hungry and fed up by that time. They also charged us for pickle tray we hadn't had. Wasn't particularly busy. Decor and ambiance not great. Loud and clattery with a two unnecessary TV's on the wall. Wouldn't go again.

We had a group of 15 which was split over two tables , which made it differcult to socialise with everyone. It was a very busy Saturday evening and it showed in the service we received. The service was poor, meals not coming out together drinks being mixed up. A guest having a completely different drink as they had none left of the drink requested but never informed the guest. So she went to the bar to sort it out. The meals themselves were very. tasty but we felt rushed. We saw more staff rushing us to pay the bill then dealing with the food and drink. Would not recommend going on a Saturday maybe the service is better during the week.

So disappointing - we’ve been coming here for over 15 years. A party of 13 for my husbands birthday on a Saturday night has changed our minds. Booking was for 7pm - I booked online; I was called a week before being told I had to pay a deposit; fine; but then called an hour before to tell me they are very busy with over 120 covers and are we defo coming which I confirmed with a very abrupt man. We seated at 7pm - drinks came sporadically to different sections of the table throughout. We had to keep flagging people down. Sad to say that we waited 1hr 40 mins for our mains - we had not ordered starters. I believe that 1hr 40 minutes is unacceptable to wait for one course. Large tables came in after us and were served before us. Needless to say - we ate up and left - the food wasn’t up to the usual standard. We ask for the bill only to realise that they had charged us £120 more than the bill should have been. My brother in law had to prove that half of the drinks weren’t ours and even tried to convince them to use the cctv to prove our innocence. Turns out that they had been adding the order from the table next door who had nothing to do with us - all their drinks etc. Finally they decide to take these drinks off our bill but it turns out they didn’t deduct the deposit already paid. This place used to be so good but I will never go back after this experience. Take on the right amount of covers - have waiting staff who are attentive and have a logical system for serving tables preferably in order of arrival and ordering.

Service wasn't great, ordered drinks with one waiter, then another came asked what we wanted to drink. Told him we're being served only to be told he'd forgotten what we wanted. Then brought food and only got half our order, had to wait till my rice was ready while my curry was going cold. Food did taste good.

Ok, so we decided to eat in rather than take out. After a hour and 15 minutes our main course had not arrived. Eventually the waiter came and said our order had been lost in the kitchen and asked for our order again. When it arrived 20 minutes later one of the two rice dishes was missing. By the time it finally arrived my wife had finished her curry. There were only four covers in when we sat down. Although the waiter didn't charge us for the drinks the whole experience was very dissapointing. The meal was average at best. Not sure if we will be going back again.

Lovely fresh cooked food. You can add or reduce Chilli heat just how you like it. All staff are very pleasant and prices are quite reasonable. Highly recommended.

Me and my family had a lovely meal here tonight. I booked a table the day before for 3 people, however when we came they showed us to a table with 4 chairs but set up for 2 people. They didn't give me a full set of cutlery when the starters came out, so when ours mains came out and the waiter left I had to reach over to a different table and grab myself cutlery from that table. Only for the waiter to come back with cutlery and shake his head with a little bit of a annoyed face when he saw I had gotten my own cutlery due to me not being provided with it at the time we sat down.

Went with great expectations only to be massively let down. I can appreciate when a restaurant is busy and never do like to query the service. But an hour and half for a table of four is never good. There was basically too many orders for the kitchen to keep up but numerous tables were complaining of the wait. I felt if we were kept up to date with how long it would be or if we had complimentary poppadoms ( on top of the ones we already had) to act as a filler then I would be more understanding, but we did not and we had to ask three times for an update on the food. That isn't a knock on the staff by the way. They were all polite. I imagine the chefs were not to pleased to be constantly asked. Unfortunately when the food did arrive (only after saying we would walk out the door) I found it to be very underwhelming. I could have had a stir in sauce with more flavour. A disappointing night and I can't say I'm looking to go back. Shame.

Once you visit you can understand why they've won so many awards.

It took 90 minutes for our food having been seated at 7pm. Table service wasn't the best either however the food was very nice. On summary, they need to improve on their table service.

First time in visiting last night and will be the last. Over an hour's wait for food for what was an average curry. I've had better else where. To top it off you could hear the chefs having an argument in the kitchen with foul language being used.

Booked a table for 6 people at 7pm, took well over an hour for our food to arrive, every time we tried to order drinks we were told "I'll be with you in a minute" 3 separate times. Ordered a butter chicken curry which is supposed to be creamy, came out watery with basically no flavour just a lump of half melted butter added to the top when it was served up and the chicken was more like thin chicken slices than chunks. Was also hot inside with no windows open, fans or A.C. Would not recommend.

Food was great and the decor of the restaurant is very nice. Staff was a bit disorganised on numerous occasions. It did take about an hour for the food to come out when the restaurant wasn't really that busy. It is all forgivable as the food was a redeeming feature 4 stars

Fist visit to this restaurant last night and the food was really delicious I had the butter chicken main and my husband had the tikka main we could tell lots of time and effort was put into preparing the food as to how fresh it was. Not too long of a wait time either Friendly staff and prices are average to most other balti restaurants Will definitely visit again in the future.

First time back here since before the pandemic, but still as good as ever. Chicken Tawa was excellent and I've always really liked the lighting and ambience in the restaurant. Hopefully we won't leave it too long before coming back next time.

Turned up late last week but still got served with a smile. Staff were very attentive even at the end of their shift. Food was lovely, highly recommended.

A fantastic take away meal from Shifnal Balti. Made the mouths just how my daughter liked it and as a new customer my experience was pleasant and the welcome I revived was second to none. A new happy customer who will definately return to the "best curry restaurant in Shifnal!"

Good food, however, the service is very slow. Dont think they can cope with capacity. Waited over an hour for main course. Very busy restaurant, not recommended if you want a quiet meal! Feel is is too cramped personally. Also check your bill, I had to point out two errors, £5 difference in the total! Could do with air conditioning too on hot days!

Food took a long time to reach the table and when it come parts of it was only luke warm myself and my husband both have got food poisoning. It was our first visit and our last. Also we had our young daughter with us and a group of people come in swearing and really load the waiters did nothing to quiet them down so we left the restaurant only to bump into the chef out the front smoking a cigarette.we as a family had a really bad experience wouldn't go back there if you paid me.

Food was decent however service was shocking. We were there for 3 hours, it was very dark (to the point where we couldn't read the menu). When the bill came, we were charged for a naan bread that never came, and £4.50 for some dips which I thought was quite expensive for essentially some mango chutney and raw onions. Not worth the higher than average cost in my opinion.

The food was good, but service was slow, food took over an hour from ordering to be served. Had to ask for drinks several times, as they kept being forgotten. Overall service was poor, staff were inattentive and disorganised. It was also clear that online orders were being prioritised over restaurant diners. Furthermore, a group of 6 came in who were extremely loud and disruptive, literally shouting, slamming the table etc. To the point where you couldn’t have a conversation with the people on your table. It’s a small restaurant so it spoiled the atmosphere for everybody else. Not only did the staff not ask them to leave, which would’ve been the obvious course of action - they continued to serve them alcohol. Completely ridiculous that they would accommodate a group like that at the expense of everybody else’s experience, I won’t return for that reason alone.

Super friendly service. Arrived on my own with no booking, big restaurant, not too busy but a nice vibe about the place with unintuitive modern music. Contemporary decor, perfect for a group night out,of which there were a few. Excellent chicken tikka and sides, lovely pathia and rice. Very reasonably priced. Plenty of staff who were all attentive.. Nice chat with one of the owners. Very reasonably priced, living in London we struggle for a good Indian, so a nice find. Would highly recommend.

We received superb service from start to finish this evening and the food was excellent. Suleiman (the Texan Rattler!) and Riaz his side kick were the double act that kept us entertained all night. (Don’t let they put you off lol) I would recommend this as the number 1 go to Balti house in Shifnal. Brilliant place.

Noisy, service was not good, also food was not the quality which it is normal, maybe the kitchen had an off day..

Not our first visit to Shifnal Balti and definitely not our last. The food is to die for and as long as you are not in a hurry then you are in for a great night out. The restaurant was nearly full so we had to wait a while between courses but as the portions are quite generous that was a good thing. It is licensed too so you can have a few Cobras to wash it all down. I would recommend the chef specials as they are super tasty but not too spicy.
