Absolutely Disgusting Customer Service - Booked this restaurant 4 months ago for pre-theatre food, have looked forward to visiting ever since. Stood outside, restaurant closed for refurb, they didn’t even let us know. Will NEVER EVER go back. I am literally seething and now left with no time to reschedule before the Theatre. Disgusting way to treat customers, avoid, avoid avoid.

This is the best Thai food I've eaten, you could tell that everything was fresh, staff were lovely very attentive. The restaurant was really clean I was surprised to see the previous reviews! Mixed starter was so nice it's great you get to try everything.

Had an early evening meal here. Great location by the river although it was too cold to sit outside. Not a particularly extensive menu but old favourites available like red and green curry. Staff were really pleasant. Food service was very quick so if you want a rest between courses best shout up.....

My review is the total opposite to some previous. We were welcomed and served well, the menu was varied and our food fabulous. Decent price and are outside by the river. Highly recommended

Lovely starter’s and mains - absolutely divine. Have been here a few times with friends so decided to take my partner who though it was really good. We went on a chilled sunny sunday.

Very expensive drinks and portaloos

What a gem of a place. Sat outside in the sun at the side of the river with a good cold bottle of wine, lovely relaxed atmosphere. We were welcomed and shown to a table by a very friendly member of staff. The menu wasn't extensive but the food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced except for the prawn thai crackers which are often served complimentary. We had a lovely evening, would recommend and definitely return if in the area again.

Didn't eat, but lovely place side of river to relax

Just had an excellent evening here! Ate out on the balcony where there was a lovely river view. Great cocktails and great vegan-friendly options, and very friendly service. Really recommend the vegetarian spring rolls and vegetarian dumplings and the various tofu options.

Nipped in for a couple of drinks, so can't comment on the food.

The outside does not do credit to this venue as once inside it opens up into a lovely modern bar and restaurant, with further space on a veranda overlooking the river. The menu is not long but still has plenty of nice choices and the food was excellent. The staff were also friendly and attentive. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will be returning in the future.

Food was nice and fresh. Servers were very friendly.

We visited on a girls night out. The food was beautiful and the service excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. My only criticism is that the starter platter for two was very expensive for what there was on it so we wouldn't order that again but otherwise we couldn't fault the food at all. Everything was really tasty.

Very nice place , service was amazing and the prawn soup absolutely lovely, I do recommend the place . Big thumbs up for the management and for chef!

The service was Shocking!!! Very small dumplings for the starter at 7,50 then padtie that was so sweet for 15 odd quid ill not be going back.....

Went for our birthday celebrations and we were not disappointed. The food is superb, really really good without of great options. The staff are great but it feels they could use more staff at busier times as the service suffers a little with delays , but not a criticism just an observation. The location of course right on the river is perfect. Can't wait to go back and enjoy more of their choices. Thanks for helping us with the birthday celebrations guys.

Went with a friend for a belated birthday catch up. Very tasty food, lovely setting alongside the river, friendly staff. £58 for two of us including tortilla dips, one starter to share, two glasses of wine, a mocktail, and two mains, so not too bad considering how nice it was, and it seems on par with prices in general these days. The massoman curry (tofu) was really tasty and was a deceptively good amount amount of food, and it took me a while to finish it all. Only minor thing was it took a while to get the first lot of food (the tortillas). But that didn't really bother us as we were busy catching up, and it was quite busy for a Wednesday evening to be fair. Food was worth the wait though, and overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I would definitely go again.

Food was delicious and the place has a great atmosphere with friendly staff. The location is great we had a table on the terrace by the river. Perfect.

Gorgeous food and a beautiful setting overlooking the River makes this a real gem. Staff were very attentive, the food was fresh and authentic with good quality ingredients used. As it was a lovely summers day today eating out on the terrace overlooking the river was a real highlight, a lovely selection of cocktails was a bonus. Will be back :)

Recently visited this restaurant on our way back from holidays and had an unpleasant experience unfortunately. I am surprised to see so many positive reviews as we dint like the food at all. Thai curries were too sweet and dint feel authentic. When we were trying to book a table, I was told that the restaurant was fully booked and they are adjusting us somehow which was untrue. I don't understand what was the need of lying but whole internal area was empty for 1.5 hrs when we were there. Service was too slow and staff wasn't proactive at all. They dint even offer us a glass of water when we arrived. We had our whole meal without water. We were sitting on a table next to kitchen door and I was shocked to see that staff was washing dishes with hands which is ofcourse not very hygienic and lot of water gets wasted. Staff was just rushing to wash the dishes after every meal and dint seem very happy to wash them again and again. Another thing that I found very unprofessional was all the staff keep standing near the main counter and keep chatting and laughing. They would not bother to notice if any customer need anything. My daughter literally had to walk to the counter to ask for a piece of lemon and their reaction was not very nice. They were trying to mock her as if she did a big mistake by asking for a lemon. Instead they should have asked us why we are taking lemons or if anything is wrong with food. My family loves thai food and we love to try different thai restaurants in different cities and this was one of the worst experience we had in terms of food, staff and customer service. Will never go back again.

If you want to have an authentic Thai meal this is not recommended at all. Food presentation is nice and the environment is great. I go to Thailand a lot and the food here just looks like Thai food! The taste was very bland and mostly sweet and no spice. Even the traditional holy basil fried chicken dish doesn't even taste a little bit spicy. We specificly asked for it spicy too!Portion is small for the price. One of the staff was very smiley and friendly (she's Thai) and the other young girls seemed to need more training. All of the staff rarely looked over when we needed their attention. Overall not a great dining experience. Gave it 2 stars for the presentation, seating and quietness. Definitely won't go again.

Excellent location on the side of the river. Parking available but Frankwell car park over the bridge too. Outside seating aswell as indoor. Relaxed atmosphere great food and service would recommend.

River Thai is a very good restaurant with covid safety applied perfectly, the staff are polite, efficient and friendly and obviously trying their best under difficult circumstances. The food is excellent, the setting is perfect and the place was spotless...My wife and I will be back !.. I was back in Shrewsbury lately and the restaurant was shut due to the flooding.. hope it reopens.

Great food lovely cocktails and great staff

Very pleasant staff but unfortunately that is the best I can say. This was by far the most flavourless Oriental food I have ever tasted. Having left the restaurant I got a takeaway meal too take back to our motorhome and enjoy. SHREWSBURY Lovely, avoid River Tai.

Delicious green curry and massaman curry. The fish cakes were good too, not just a frozen job. Would recommend this restaurant. For the drivers, there is limited parking on site.

My wife and i had a great meal here.( calamari cooked to perfection) Great food ,staff friendly and chatty . Nice setting .Reasonably priced .

The soup was the only thing i could possibly consume! The pad thai had a weird taste to it.. i had to take it out quicker than i put in to stop myself from throwing up! Seriously iam not exaggerating, i had such high expectations for you guys, maybe it is just a one off thing, due to it was late and you guys wanted to go home, but the food was horrendous!

The food at the time was nice, it was tasty, but I had food poisoning from eating here, I didn't plan in giving this place a review, I understand mistakes get made but it was the response we had when raising this with the restaurant, we wasn't asking for a refund or anything just letting them know. Basically denied it as if it couldn't be possible and questioned whether it was actually food poisoning. It was definitely food poisoning I was up all night, it was horrendous, couldn't eat for a day and couldn't keep any fluid down for a good 12 hours.

The best phad Thai I've had! Tofu phad Thai was excellent, with lots of crunchy veg and crispy Tofu. My partners prawn phad Thai was fresh and also delicious. Both female and male staff were so lovely and attentive. Excellent service, food, beer and wine. Best Thai I've been to in the UK.

Superb location and attentive service. The meal was disappointing for the cost. My daughter's beef tasted unusual to the point she didn't eat it . Such a shame our waitress was so lovely.

Modern Thai restaurant with all menu items freshly prepared. Prices are average, service is adequate, the menu is rather short but there are no glaring omissions (and vegetarian/vegan options are available). The cocktails menu stands out as unique to Thai restaurants in Shrewsbury, and makes River Thai a great location for the summer as it has a long balcony overlooking the River Severn. Having been once before shortly after its initial opening, I can say the place has improved significantly as the business has matured. Overall, not tremendously memorable, but you can't go wrong.

Stumbled upon this restaurant when we dropped in to Shrewsbury after a day in Shropshire. We were given a seat outdoor on the pontoon overlooking the river. Good selection of cocktails - which could also be made non-alcoholic - and food menu was extensive but not overwhelming. Highly recommend the pad thai which had a sweet sticky sauce. The larb salad was also delicious!

After a sad and disillusioned tour around Shrewsbury, we happened upon the River Thai. Sadly, and something we will redress in the future, we had already eaten. We arrived on a pleasant evening, hoping for a small table to enjoy a drink. Happily, we were offered a lovely table, with a river view on a lovely spacious decked area. We relaxed and enjoyed the experience, fine wine and beer and great service. I probably ought to be paid for this but, this is the impression it left. A must and I guess we were lucky to get in. If they do lunch, I'm booking for tomorrow. Please check my other reviews to understand to See this is deserved, generous praise.

Booked this little gem of a place for a meal on our first night away since 2019!! Food was absolutely stunning. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. We shall definetley be returning on our next visit to Shrewsbury. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic meal here on Tuesday evening our first one since being allowed back inside a restaurant. The food was gorgeous and the staff were lovely. We had starters and mains and both were perfect. Can't wait yo go back.

Visited here after struggling to find somewhere to eat outside as most places were fully booked, but the staff were very friendly and quick to find us a table. It is one of the few restaurants in town that were very well adapted for outdoor seating and we were very grateful to be out of the rain and wind with heaters too! The prices were expected to be slightly higher considering the location right on the river but we felt the starter selection was slightly over-priced compared to usual starter prices. Food seemed a bit different to other Thai dishes I have had before but still tasted good. Staff were also very good at promoting covid measures and overall we had an enjoyable experience.

We dropped in at the River Thai to book a midweek table for two and ended up spending the afternoon there .What a lovely sunny day it was,relaxing views over the river Severn with a couple of G&T's.Our midweek reservation was obviously a different experience.Early evening dining sitting on the terrace with the roof and sides down for protection,(Unfortunatly our patio heater didn't work) .The main meal and dessert were both amazing aswell as colourful,as was the service .Will definitely go back.

Visited here Sunday evening, sat on the terraced area overlooking the river, stunning location. The food was wonderful, plenty to choose from. Staff are very attentive, really lovely atmosphere. Got a bit chilly later in the evening, so the patio heaters were put on. A perfect evening and a great way to spend my birthday. Thoroughly recommend!

Lovely location but the food could be better....

We visited on a Wednesday evening for dining on the terrace, which has a great view over the river. It’s a fantastic all-weather space, with retractable roof, awnings and patio heaters. The menu has some great choices. We had prawn crackers to share, followed by a green chicken curry and a sweet & sour chicken, and finished with a hot waffle with chocolate sauce & ice cream to share. The food was plentiful in portion size, and very tasty. Staff service is excellent, friendly and attentive. Prices are on the expensive side, but in line with other town centre restaurants. It well worth a visit for a most unique dining experience.

Dissatisfied as the food was really tasty but the portions were small and I'm a tiny person myself so it's easy to fill me but I left hungry and the cost is way too high for the quality and quantity provided

Meal was ok but I’d hoped for so much more based on reviews. Maybe we experienced an off night but I definitely didn’t appreciate reheated potatoes in a massuman curry.

Visited on 18th September 2020. Not covid safe. All drinks and food ordered at bar with no masks or social distancing. Staff were not very accommodating or welcoming. Tbh made us feel like they were doing us a favour by serving us. Food pretty average. No..wont be back. Lots of other options in Shrewsbury town centre who welcome our custom in these challenging times.

Just had a fantastic experience at The River Thai!! Lovely ambiance, staff were very attentive- especially James. The quality of food was excellent + some of the tastiest Thai food I've ever had. The staff even took the trouble to make an 'off the drinks menu' mocktail for a pregnant member of the group. Cannot recommend highly enough + will be returning very soon.

I went out for our first meal since lockdown began with friends for a meal outside and listen to a local couple sing? Before going we checked out their COVID procedures and thought it sounds ok. Upon checking in I was surprised that none of the staff had any COVID protection & it all seemed as normal? We was shown to our table and told we had to go to the bar to order drinks and meals, this is right by the entrance where people were coming & going, walking right in front of me. I felt this wasn’t safe and expressed my concerns at the bar, this was just dismissed as it was the way they were doing it....Later on the few groups of lads arrived and where going from table to table celebrating as if nothing was wrong, i raised my concerns to a door steward that they should be asked to stay where they had been placed keeping social distance from everyone else and he did nothing but watching them? I felt very uneasy and my friend asked a member of staff to do something, this lead to a very rowdy conversation between door staff that turned up and the group of people being escorted out of the restaurant. A group of lads made their way back in & threatened me & my party with language I could not repeat. I felt worried that they would start something else and they had to be forcibly removed from the restaurant. I wouldn’t go again as the food was spoilt by the behaviour of a few. COVID regulations need to be address more seriously and the way food & drinks are served. Please for the safety of others do something....Regards

Great location, service and value

Couldn't fault the food which was excellent and tasted authentic. However, we had a distinctly uneasy feeling about the way the restaurant was run in these challenging times. Having to queue at the bar to place drinks and food orders, along with diners waiting to come in and others waiting to pay made social distancing nigh on impossible. When I book to have a meal out with my wife, for her birthday having to queue like a cafe is not what I expect, and is most definitely not covid friendly. I thought in these times table service was a given as indeed the sign on the wall implied. Despite super food, this completely tarnished our restaurant experience hence the rather generous 3* rating.

Excellent little gem of a place with excellent & kind service, we ate there for 2 of the 4 nights we stayed in Shrewsbury - we has excellent Thai food, mixed with good weather and good wine we had a brilliant evening x 2, thank you for an excellent time x

This is a wonderful Thai restaurant on the rovers edge in Shrewsbury, they have a good size outside space, good COVID-19 spacing, the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful three hour lunch. First class.

Nothing special to shout about very bland green curry

We ate here early on a Tuesday evening and had starters of veggie spring rolls and chicken satay. Then a tofu curry and a spicy hot chicken green curry. All superb flavours and presentation. Will have to return in the summer and sit outside :)

Returned to the River Thai last night, we had not been since last summer, it was nice to see it was busy, nice atmosphere. As usual the food was excellent, the Tempura Prawns were superb and the Pork ribs were so meaty and tender, we both had the Green Curry as a main which was so tasty with just the right amount of spice soaked up with coconut rice. Good service and lovely pleasant staff. Well done River Thai.

Authentic Thai cuisine in an idyllic setting. Food is lovely, staff attentive but without being overbearing. Pricey for the portion size though, that said we will return again.

We went on Saturday night as we haven’t had a Thai meal for ages.We were not disappointed, Tom yum soup was delicious, right amount of heat and spices. Spare ribs and chicken satay were equally lovely.Mains were duck with chillis, green chicken curry, pork belly and a tofu curry.All polished off with relish, very friendly staff, will definitely be back

We always come here when staying in Shrewsbury. The food is amazing with generous portions, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Will keep coming back especially in the summer when we can eat out on the terrace overlooking the river.

Went over the road from Premier Inn to the River Thai. . reviews seemed a bit hit and miss. We had soup which was not bad but then the green curry was a bit average. Staff was very helpful and setting was plaesant

Blandest food ever, worst than British bland food. NO taste, NO flavor. Uncook dishes.Wonder if anyone got food poisoining yet? Service is slow, chaotic and unprofessional, ordered drinks which never came.AVOID

Tasted like it came out of the river! I went on new years eve, where it had a set menu, there were 2 tables full in the whole place, which should have given us the first hint to run. The first starter I had was 3 little ribs and my friend had 3 spring rolls that were the size of her fingers. However these were really both tasty, so we both thought oh maybe it will be a good meal. Still hungry though of course! So, main came out quite quickly I might add, hence the 2 star rating(although I would hope so as the place was practically empty) I had the pad Thai noodles, which I know they're supposed to be Al dente but these were chewy, they also must have a liking for fish sauce because that's all I tasted throughout my chicken pad Thai, my friend had the beef chow mein and again fish sauce. Finally we had our desserts, 2 measly looking chocolate mousses (could have had this at home for £2) as I started eating through it, suddenly I got a mouthful of a whole cherry which, by that point, I then could not finish my dessert. Finally, we get our bill and for a drink, a cocktail, a 3 course meal and 2 still hungry bellys we paid £40 each! Second redeeming feature were all the staff that worked that night were amazing and helpful, we had a laugh which made everything else easier, the man who opens the door for you is really sweet. I felt sorry for everyone who worked there that night and should have raised my complaint then but just too polite. We went to KFC in the end much better meal, highly recommend 😂.

We booked an early table at River Thai and weren't disappointed. We regularly visit this restaurant through the summer due to it's fantastic location on the banks of the river and it is equally as good in the winter. The food was delicious and service was exemplary - James was amazing. Speedy, friendly service and great food. We can definitely recommend.

Food was ok. Very expensive. Not very warm inside

It was our first time attending this place after wanting to for quite a while. I wish we never bothered. Menu is pricey for the amount of food you actually get on the plate, we both left still feeling hungry and begrudged paying more to fill up. The dishes weren’t the tastiest either or I wouldn’t have minded paying those prices. The service was good although there were only 2 other tables dining. It is a beautiful location but unfortunately that’s the only thing River Thai has going for it.

Food was fantastic but given wrong meal not eating thai food before started eating only thing that let it down was management's attitude to rectify .just walked off .but did enjoy my duck .(not meal orderd)note it was a stressful night for staff as we was a large group of twenty and to get us all eating at the same time must have been difficult. But a little time with the customer and not chasing the staff will help .will come again as ribs melt in mouth and presentation was good. Staff friendly nd worm .

We wanted to try something different to remember my Mum who passed recently & thought about River Thai. Fabulous food, lovely chilled Atmos, the service could be a little slow but more non-rushed really. So a lively evening & a fitting & lovely remembrance of my dear, sweet, missed already Mum

Decent food, slightly overpriced and not much atmosphere. Only two tables taken on a Friday night. Two long hairs found in rice and not particularly well handled when mentioned.

I have to start by saying our party of four did not actually eat at this restaurant.On a lovely sunny Bank Holiday Sunday we arrived just after 6pm wanting to have a meal.We sat outside, and noticed there was only one person who seemed to be serving. We were informed that we would have to order drinks and food inside at the bar. We could not set up a tab, so would have to pay on each visit to the bar.We were told there would be a wait of approximately 30/45 minutes if we did order food. There was no-one at the tables inside and the outside did not look particularly busy.We had a look at the menu and as it didn't seem that varied or interesting, we decided to leave without finding out what the food tasted like.I have to make a point of saying the young lady who did serve us was very friendly.
