Every year, during the Silverstone GP, we go to this restaurant for dinner because we loved the atmosphere, the service, and the food. This year we were somewhat disappointed with the limited and substandard first courses (shrimp and calamari). Fortunately, the main courses (steak and sirloin) were cooked to our specifications, and the meat was of good quality. The service was still attentive, but the restaurant was quite empty for a Friday night.

It was our first time at Miller & Carter Herne Bay on our way to Reculver Towers. I've been to Miller & Carter Bexley and Maidstone already and this is the best so far. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Rob, who was our waiter. He made us feel welcome and was very attentive and friendly throughout our stay. The food was delicious, both mains and desserts. I had a fillet steak in M&C Bexley and Maidstone previously, and I must say, the steak in Herne Bay was the best so kudos to the chef! There is room for improvement though, please serve olives with some sort of herbs, lemon/orange peel or/and oil. Olives should not be served plain in a restaurant, IMHO.

The food was exceptional, cooked to perfection, and the Rioja wine was an excellent value for money. However, the service was disappointing. Our waiter was visibly intoxicated and engaged in inappropriate behaviour. During breaks, he consumed large quantities of beer and crisps without washing his hands, and then proceeded to cut our bread manually. After the meal, he left steak juice on the table for several minutes without cleaning it up. When the waiter returned with the dessert menu, he used my wife’s napkin to wipe the table without applying any disinfectant, and failed to replace it. Consequently, we decided not to have dessert and requested the bill. We had to request the bill a second time before it was presented. The bill included a 12.5% service charge, which I found excessive given the unsatisfactory service we received. I did not feel inclined to tip, as my experience had been deeply marred. The waiter responded dismissively when we declined to offer a tip, and he promptly bid us farewell by throwing the receipt tray onto the bar top in anger. Overall, while we would consider returning for the exceptional food, we would not recommend the establishment for its service.

A surprisingly spacious and comfortable venue with very enjoyable food, created by what was clearly a talented Chef, who ultimately cooked my desired meal to perfection. Unfortunately, the standard of "Front of House" did not mirror the excellence in the kitchen. In particular, the Restaurant Manger/Maitre D' - or however he styled himself - soured the evening utterly. Much as I love meat dishes, I have a total abhorrence of bloodied, red and pink meats and will always ask for my steak to be "well done". A personal foible but, if I'm paying, then it will be cooked my way. The episode began with the waiter taking the order and suggesting I have my meat cooked medium or medium-rare. I refused. We went through the malarkey at least once more and I explained. He scuttled off. Shortly thereafter, the Restaurant Manager popped up at the table and the discussion about the cooking of my steak began again, only this time in a voice so loud as to make people from other tables look over, his bullying onslaught reaching the point where I felt completely humiliated but unwilling to budge over how I wanted my food cooked. He was absolutely insistent that I could not have the steak well done. It was like being harangued by Walton's answer to Pol Pot, ramming his so-called "professional expertise" down my throat with a shovel. My partner intervened, gave him a blunt delivery, told him to drop it and do as I asked. After attempting to argue with my partner (an ex-Chef himself) further on the matter he finally walked away having caused me extreme embarrassment, made a spectacle of himself, offered no apology and attempted to impose his will on his paying guests - those self-same guests who keep him in employment Not acceptable. Would I recommend? The food absolutely "yes". The bumptious little dictator on Reception? Absolutely not.

Pros; Cheerful Customer Service, Reasonable prices Cons; Mediocre food Went for a family get together. Starters; Halloumi (8/10) & Calamari Main: Salmon(Steak) & Chicken Schnitzel. Starters & Salmon were good. Chicken Schnitzel: Awful Firstly appeared with an over abundance of mushroom sauce used to disguise a grossly overcooked, Rock hard, dry chicken Schnitzel clearly the kitchen thought they could get away with as part of a large order. Overall: Wouldn't go back to a restaurant that on a Saturday night had no other customers at 9.30pm than our group especially when better restaurants available locally.

I visited here with my brother and dad for a spot of lunch, warm friendly welcome by the publican , great selection of beers on tap, lovely food we had the two course lunch special for £15. It's a warm cost pub with a great beer garden perfect for the summer, I would visit here again and recommend it to friends and family
