Pub grub with a gastro feel. Reasonably priced with plenty of choice. Atmosphere and service couldn't be better.

Absolutely amazing! Popped in for a drink, but ended up looking at the food menu! Plenty of vegan options for my partner! We both ordered nachos, and they were absolutely gorgeous. Massive portions, fresh and delicious! Friendly staff and cosy atmosphere!! :)

Sadly we waited 35 mins for our food which was then cold. Heard other tables also saying food was cold. Service behind the bar was not great as the staff were having their own conversations while serving. Won't have food again there.

Sunday lunch was really really good. Nice beef, plenty of it. Excellent crispy roast potatoes , plenty of nicely cooked veg. Yorkshire pud with a stuffing ball resting inside . Delicious gravy . Will definitely be back next time we visit. Some friends passed by as we were eating outside and ordered Sunday lunch too and joined us , it was soooo good .

Amazing food and excellent service. We booked to celebrate my wife's graduation. We had a table booked for 8 people. Our reserved sign said "Congraduation!" So cute! The food was exceptional. Big portions and lots of choice. We had family visiting from Italy who loved their British pub experience. Their first time trying a fish pie! Food all came at the same time. Super friendly staff and overall a lovely atmosphere. We can't wait to go back!

I went in on a cold wet day, and was hit by the warmth- of the staff, the other clientele and the atmosphere. Really nice pub. Next time I'll stop for lunch, which looked amazing

Didn't eat or drink in here. Was very busy so can't really comment on that but the atmosphere looked great in their. We were going too have a drink but noone really came over and said anything to us when we're clearly looking for a table. And multiple workers passed us, most people in service will say something or at least acknowledge it's busy. Probs would've changed our attitude to the place, might very stayed

Amazing food especially the ploughman's.

Bar man was very rude in front of my family on Christmas Eve. Totally unacceptable. Especially when I have been going there for 30 years. Shame

Nice pub on George St. Very pleasant staff which helped us pick out some good pints. The menu looked delish with reasonably priced including appetizers. This pub gets very busy during the weekends. So arrive early and enjoy!

As Beautiful from the outside as it is on the inside, this pub is an amazing place to grab a pint or two while staring at the rafters, all the details of its decorations. It can get pretty crowded but the overall atmosphere is nice and warm. Definitely a spot to visit while in Old Town Hastings. UPDATE : we finally had the opportunity to try the food and it was delicious! We had the Seadogs and the Steak and Ale pie and it was generous and perfectly cooked.

Loved this very old pub we came across in Hastings Old town. We went in around 15.30 and it was busy with a mix of friends and families but yet it wasn’t too loud which was so refreshing. We ordered the cod and chips and it was extremely tasty. Big portions, enough for one between two. Recommend if you take a trip to Hastings! Food was great and the pub had so much character and very cosy.

Stumbled across this place on our day out and was not disappointed the food was fantastic and service was great nothing seemed to much for the man that took our order large portions nice and clean and well presented never had any beer but coffee and tea was excellent along with the muffins. So this is our new place to eat on our monthly trip to Hastings plus the pub is dog friendly which is a big bonus to us.

Fabulous atmosphere in this very busy pub. We managed to get in early and found acorner table to accommodate us and space for the dog. Great food.

Reasonable prices, nice staff at the bar pool table upstairs 2 bars very busy and can see why well worth a visit.

Came here back in the summer and had the All Day Breakfast. Absolutely brilliant! Great tasting food, nice service and beautiful setting.

Love this pub, we had Sunday roast of lamb shank, beautiful cooked, lots of veg and potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. couldn't fault it. staff always great and atmosphere wonderful

Didn’t eat, but I saw the food coming out and it looked good. Great pub, good beer, good layout and the guys behind the bar were friendly, who could ask for more.

Has a small bar at pavement level but go up the side alley and a lovely bar there with a beer garden...very deceiving but older worldy as per the name. Definitely worth the visit.

Just a wonderful old pub in a fun seaside town. Went twice. Hamburger was great but Sunday roast is the real star here. The apple crumble with custard is also fantastic. I don't drink but my father enjoyed the beer on tap.Cool atmosphere and highly recommended. Clean modern bathrooms. They totally need to sell tee shirts or other merchandise here.

Very capable staff member under much pressure because of the number of customers coming in to avoid heavy rainfall. Managed to keep on top of the situation. Extremely helpful to us elderly customers. Top notch for service.

We love Ye Olde Pumphouse, every year we visit Hastings and always have a meal here. They cater for vegans too, I had chickpea curry then vegan dessert and a latte.

What a very welcoming pub.we went into the pub whilst on a few days break.they have a great selection of beers to cater for everyone's needs.the staff are so very friendly and very professional in every aspect of there jobs.we had an amazing plowmans lunch as well as a few beers.would highly recommend a visit if you are nearby.

This place isn't messing around when it comes to portion size we fancied Apple crumble and got the best apple crumble I have experienced so far. The venue is unique an old 1600 style pub and diner, the staff we were served by Miles great service...next time we are back in Hastings we'll rush back lol.

Historic pub with a good choice and beers on tap. One decent cider, but could have a better choice of beer in the fridge, which was very average. Attentive and friendly staff.

Very cool! Didn't know what a snake bite was. But a good time was had.

2nd time here, as had a great steak 1st time round. Sadly, it's not as good as 1st time, so I'm guessing different chefs, perhaps. Cold peppercorn sauce and meal looked like had been thrown on plate. Shame as we thought we had found a new place to go.

The 3 cheese ploughman's was 100% perfect, the atmosphere is amazing you can almost feel the ghosts x

Couldn't eat there with kids (11 and 13 yo). Even when we showed up earlier. The curfew rules kept changing like they made them up on the spot.

Only stopped in here for a drink while in the area. It's a lovely pub that l think is run by a family. I liked the atmosphere in here & the history that it had. The entrance is on the side & the roof is low, so be careful.

Pretty nice and at the same time quaint pub. The burger was powerful but tasty. The Ham in particular was outstanding. I liked that I was allowed to try all the IPAs before I ordered.

Stumbled upon while looking for something for a drink and pub lunch, during our mini break to Rye area. Travelling as a late thirty to early forty something couple, with Italian Greyhound in tow - we can be quite picky with our pub choices. On the last day of our trip we took a slightly blustery drive out to Hastings. Avoiding the pier, and rundown parts of town, we took a walk through the quaint Old Town with Luigi (the pup) trotting alongside. We spotted several Sheps houses along route, which surprised us a little being outside Kent (where we are from), knew they were in Sussex but didn't expect to see three in succession here. Looking for a lunchtime pitstop we were lured by both the olde-worlde charm of the exterior, and a chalkboard promising they were dog friendly. Up the steps to the main entrance round the side, we were not disappointed. A wonderfully warm and friendly pub, even on a blustery day most tables were taken and there were many hounds also there. Reassured by both a friendly welcome at the Bar, and the usual good Shepherd Neame choices on draught, we parked up on a cosy table round from the main bar. Comfortable surroundings and warm upbeat atmosphere, it didn't feel pretentious or rundown, just somewhere in the middle. An honest friendly pub welcoming lots of clientele, with a few quirks. The menu looked varied enough, with lots of classic pub staples too, and reasonably priced. Opted for a steak, and a pie and mash lunch. Good portions, homemade, well priced for this part of the world on the coast and couldn't complain. All in all very pleasant visit, good atmosphere, hearty pub food and dog felt very welcome too. Would come again if in the area, and bit of a hidden gem from it's unusual street side mock medieval or Tudoresque facade. Recommend dropping in if you're in Hastings.

Went here with my wife today for a Sunday roast and it was delicious, my only gripe was the beef was just a little too pink for me. The roast spuds are fantastic 😋

This is a great old building located in Old Hastings on George St. We popped in for a drink, saw someone else's meal, decided to order our own food and another round of drinks. Well the food was great, as was the beer. We ordered an Admiral burger (chicken burger) and a Green Beard burger (spicy bean burger). Both came with chunky chips. The Admiral had slaw, the Green Beard had guacamole and sour cream. The beer was good too, I recommend the Spitfire Amber Ale. Well worth a visit if only to see inside. The venue is very popular.

If possible, I would have given 6 stars!!! Lovely atmosphere/decor ... good value prices with EXCELLENT vegetarian option ( vegan also available ) and nice choice of keg beers (also one cask !!) All in all, a DEFINITE place to visit if in Hastings! Staff are smiling and attentive - GREAT!
