Staff were not welcoming on arrival, I had not been before and staff member assumed I knew where I was sitting, was also not told had to order and pay at the bar, tables are so crammed together, food was average at best, would definitely not go again, definitely not wheel chair friendly or anyone with s pushchair as there are lots of steps.

Great pub, have been coming here for years and will continue to. Only thing that's a bit disappointing is that (as far as I can tell) they've taken away all of the Jack and the Green photos that were up on the wall, and replaced it with a no vaping poster, which has removed some of the character unfortunately.

The place is lovely and the food is good too usually, but I had a nut roast that wasn't very nice, unfortunately. It was a sloppy mess of stuff and didn't have a nice taste. So I just ate the veg and Yorkshire pud that was with it. I wouldn't recommend it. The garlic bread was lovely and the chips are too. So I would not have the unroasted, nut roast again. And have something else instead.

Fantastic old pub with a great atmosphere. The Guinness and ale were spot on. The food was clearly not standard out-of-the-freezer fayre some pubs serve. All at a very reasonable price. The vegan options were plentiful and varied, not that I'd personally choose them. The staff were welcoming and helpful to a tee. To the point where, on our way out, a member came around from the bar to assist me with the door as I shepherded my 2 large dogs outside. When I told him it wasn't necessary, he explained that I had my hands full with the dogs. Can't rate the experience highly enough, or thank the staff enough, they clearly deserve a pay rise; kitchen and bar. I will be visiting again, when next I eat out in hastings. The only downsides I could find were; the pool table looked like it'd seen more drinks than the tables and wheelchair access seemed like it would be an issue (whichever way you approach the pub involves standard old-town steps), however it wouldn't surprise me if they had measures in place and would gladly offer assistance.

Absolutely awesome pub, you don't get many traditional buildings like this around. Alone, the pub has a lovely atmosphere. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and it's clear they work hard. I love how they have a muffin & coffee deal for £4 - very cheap for how nice the muffin and drinks were! They have many other little deals like this around so well worth your time no matter what you're looking for. How busy the pub was at a lunchtime weekday is a testament to their fantastic service and food.

My family and I visited Ye Olde Pump House in Hastings for lunch, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The charming Ye olde pump house ambiance instantly caught my attention, setting the perfect tone for a delightful meal. The highlight of our visit was the mouthwatering steaks that were cooked to absolute perfection. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and it's clear that the chefs at The Ye olde Pump House take their craft seriously. But it wasn't just the food that made our day; the impeccable service and inviting atmosphere truly stood out. A special shout-out to the bartender, Callan, who went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. Callan's friendly demeanor and extensive local knowledge added a personal touch to our visit. It's not every day that you encounter such a warm and knowledgeable staff member! As first-time visitors to Hastings, we feel incredibly fortunate to have chosen The Pump House for our meal. It's safe to say that we're already planning our next visit. If you're looking for a place with delectable food, exceptional service, and a charming ambiance, The Pump House is the place to be. A time-honored British tradition came alive at The Olde Pump House in Hastings as I embarked on a delightful culinary journey with their quintessential Fish and Chips. Nestled within the historic walls of this 15th-century pub, the experience was nothing short of a nostalgic escapade to the heart of tradition. Upon my plate arrived a beautifully presented duo – perfectly golden-brown battered fish paired with a generous serving of golden fries. The initial crunch as I bit into the crispy exterior gave way to the tender, flaky fish within. The batter, a harmonious blend of lightness and crispiness, was a testament to the pub's dedication to culinary craftsmanship. What truly elevated this dish was the quality of the ingredients. The fish, undoubtedly fresh, maintained its natural flavors, accentuated by a delicate seasoning that balanced the oceanic notes. The fries, a true embodiment of the art of frying, retained their fluffy interior while boasting an addictive crunch. In the heart of Hastings, The Olde Pump House keeps the spirit of fish and chips alive, paying homage to a cherished culinary heritage. It's a celebration of simplicity, executed with finesse and a nod to the past. Whether you're a local or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of British culture, this classic dish at The Olde Pump House is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Nick

Love an old historic pub and this one goes back centuries. Located in the old town in Hastings it is set back against the cliff and inside is a quirky set of levels and spaces. Food and beer was good. Busy at lunchtimes but quieter in between. Worth calling in for a drink. Obviously no parking there (but loads of car parks an easy walk away) and not particularly wheelchair accessible either as that wasn't a consideration in the 17th century.

Had been in for drink only some years ago but not eaten here before. Have to say it was very good. some nice vegetarian and vegan options and the portion sizes were huge especially the nachos that my granddaughter had. Couple of us had the Redbeard which was good and spicy, the vegan greenbeard got the thumbs up as it seemed home made and the pie and mash also went down really well. Will definitely be going back. Staff were very friendly and welcoming even though it was very busy (end of Hastings Carnival week). Food came quickly and was piping hot. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was great. Went in for lunch with some friends, our three year old and our baby. Initially told no tables so tried elsewhere. After no success we were standing outside trying to decide what to do and the barman had the decency to actually come out of the pub and grab us to let us know a table was coming free. The pub was family friendly and there was excellent communication re a longer wait on the food (busy Saturday at 1pm so totally understandable). Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Cheerful atmosphere and clearly popular for good reason. Unfortunately I didn’t get the name of the barman but he saved us having to deal with a hungry three year old in the pouring rain and we were all very grateful.

We had a great experience here. I went in around 1730 with my two little girls (5 and 7) and the staff were friendly from the off-set. After ordering drinks we chose food and I went and spoke to the barman and told him that I didn’t want to do children’s set menu as the girls had already had ice cream that day and I just got them a drink and so could they have adults sausage and mash and split it. He said of course and when I asked for an extra sausage so they could have two each, he said an extra pound and then said we could have it for free. The food was delicious and I had fish and chips and the veggies, salad an gravy were yummy too. We finished off with a apple crumble and custard and the barman realised we were sharing and gave us cutlery then when it came out, it was huge. I thanked you barman at the end and would definitely return.
