The Prince Albert was a Shepherd Neame pub for years, but is now is a genuine free house, selling up to 3 cask ales and 12 craft beers and (mostly) premium lagers on keg. They take part every year in Hastings Tap Takeover, and regularly have their own tap takeovers, and an excellent Oktoberfest every year too. The food always looks enticing, but I live too close by to not feel right eating there (this ain't Eastenders!), but they have specialist food too, for example, specifically for Oktoberfest, you can guess what type of food then. On my last visit I enjoyed their Oktoberfest, including drinking British versions of German beer, but also the real thing, including 3 beers from Bavaria, Hacker-Pschorr's special seasonal 6.0% Oktoberfest Bier, Hofbrau Munchen's 6.3% Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier, and Flotzinger Brau's 5.8% Wies'n-Marzen, brewed specifically for the Rosenheim Autumn Festival. In addition, check with the Prince Albert's website if you would like to catch live music there, because they do have live music sessions. The pub opens at 16.00 during the week, and at 12.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Decent pub. Came here as part of the Tap Takeover weekend & they had Cloudwater...but there was nothing 'new' from them which is a shame for the pub & not their fault so we didn't stick around.

Really fantastic. Well done chef Luca Mattia. We were here for Sunday lunch - and I chose Pork, a meat I would never pick in a pub because its too easy to spoil. I'm delighted to say it was the best pork I've ever eaten. Excellent - very moist and flavoursome. It came with a home made bramley apple sauce - a proper brown colour instead of the catering stuff that comes in bottles. My friends had the lamb and said it was also good. The roasts were proper good fresh roasted potatoes - instead of the usual reheated roasts you so often get in a pub or restaurant . We had honey roasted carrots and parsnips, cheesy sauce leeks and pigs in blankets. And to wash it down we had Pulpt cider - possibly also the best cider I've drunk. I can genuinely say that I'd rather not write this review because when people find out how good this place is I probably won't be able to get a table anymore.

Went here for a Sunday roast last week. The kitchen staff (and some of the bar staff too) seem to have recently changed and sadly it wasn’t a patch on the old team. It seemed pretty disorganised, despite not being particularly busy. It was also freezing cold with terrible music, played too loud. Staff really were miserable to the point of utter rudeness. Meals came and we were gobsmacked by the portion sizes now. Whilst this seems to be a trend for some pubs and restaurants nowadays to cost cut, this was at a p*ss taking level. The veg appeared to have been served using a teaspoon, was bland and tasteless. The meat (we both had beef) was highly fatty. Cauliflower cheese was extra - we didn’t bother. Half the plate was literally presented empty. Given this is currently one of the most expensive roasts in Hastings, it was laughable in terms of both quantity and quality. We both left as hungry as when we’d arrived and picked up a takeaway on the way home as we felt we’d basically just had a small starter and nothing like a substantial meal. We won’t be returning, it honestly was into ‘rip off’ territory.

Booked for Sunday lunch as they were doing roast dinners and this was meant to be a treat for our Anniversary. Warm and welcoming are not words I would use to describe this pub. It was freezing outside and inside (no fires lit despite it being a cold day) Menus were just dropped on the table with no explanation in regards to ordering. After 15mins or so of being ignored we went up to the bar and was told 'bar service as usual'...well how would we know that?? I wanted to leave then and there. Food....meat was beautiful (lamb and pork) but the veg was pretty much raw and bland - and I like al dente veg! Cabbage burnt, yes, burnt. The cauli cheese was huge but raw to the point we couldnt even cut it and no cheese in sight or taste. For £17 - £20 and £8 for the cauli cheese (was refunded for that element) I would rather stay home and cook. Really disappointed.

On Sundays and Mondays to now roast dinners are served and OMG Best roast dinner in Hastings! Probably East Sussex… probably the whole of the uk!!! So many great vegan options and VEGAN YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS! And the authentic smash burgers are🤤 too! My American friends said they’re possibly the best smash burger they’ve had ever! I don’t eat meat so I’ll take their word for it but again with all vegan options too I have vegan smash burger and my god it’s so good!

We have been regulars at The Prince Albert for approx three years. So were delighted when it re opened after being closed for about a year. The bar staff are lovely, so helpful and friendly. The new chef does a good vegan selection and the food is tasty. However after today's experience we will not be going back. We booked a table for 2pm, after an hours wait we were informed the kitchen had received a glut of bookings in one go. So we could either wait a further 30 + mins or have a refund. These things happen, right and we were looking forward to our meal. When it arrived the food was cold and served in a tin dish. We politely stated this and said it would have been nice to be offered either a discount or free drink as a good will gesture when asked if all was well. We were met with a torrent of abuse by the waiter, who among other things practically called us liars and drunkards. We had consumed two drinks each in an almost two hour wait. I asked him twice to please go away as we had not come out to be abused. He totally ignored my request and a lovely member of staff had to come and guide him away. It has been a dreadful experience and a sad end to what we considered our cosy local.

The online info stated all vegan, but most dishesl had meat or cheese. I was offered a ploughmans with vegan cheese but we were charged an extra £3.50 because a new pack would have to be opened. We decided to leave when we realised there was no logic to this but there was a lot of arguing about refunding us. Recent change of management apparently.

Went in there for the 1st time in years but won’t go back. No spirits that I drink and all the cider was high percentage, more than one and I’d be falling down the awful steps leading to the loo. The most off putting part though was the very strong “wet dog” smell. There were a few dogs in there when we went in. Despite only just reopening the place looked shabby.

Have not visited The Prince Albert since 2019. On that occasion they had no ales and not even Guinness (my fall back). As it happened, that suited me as, as I looked around I thought, 'this place is disgusting, I don't want to drink here' and walked out. I read that it had changed hands and had a complete refurb so decided to revisit on this Hastings trip. It is now very, very nice, great decor and great staff with an excellent range of ales. Alas there is 1 problem. the locals dominate the seats at the bar and will not allow bar access. Necessitating shouting and awkwardly reaching over for drinks. Please remedy this for perfection.

I've had a couple of very decent meals here before but I made the mistake of spending a tenner for food during October Fest week/month? at the Prince Albert. I would have gone elsewhere but was with friends, and I would have ordered something else but there was no choice, just the one meal. A giant hotdog, a tablespoon of sauerkraut, a large pretzel & some sauce. The hot dog was as revolting as hotdogs usually are (the fact that this one one vegan was no consolation), the kraut was ok, and the Pretzel was very hard & dry, and heavily coated in salt. The curry sauce was like sweet curry ketchup. Eating it was hard work. I had to keep swigging beer to get it down and to wash away the seawater flavour. It was the worst food I have had at any eatery for quite a few years. I left feeling culturally cruddy, nutritionally neutralized, and fiscally fisted. The Staff were lovely and professional & the IPA was very good. I will go again to eat, I like this pub, but not during its October Fest time. Finally I have to mention the fact that I checked the pub's menu on its website so I knew what I was looking at food wise before I got there; completely different menu, a very good looking one, with choices, and with no mention of it being just a sample menu. I see this a lot with eateries. Very irritating. The nice menu has since been removed from their website.

Transformed from the grimmest dive with a carpet caked with stale Watneys Red Barrel and the tears of miserable punters left uncleaned since 1975, the new-look Prince Albert is now a buzzing corner local tucked just behind Queen's Rd. With 3 hand pumps and 3 kegs, they serve Sussex ales including a zingy Brewing Brothers IPA created specially for them, and serve vegan pub grub of a burgers & chips variety. Deservedly popular with locals, you get a friendly welcome and a great pint. It was so good even the radio was smashing out some bangers (Disney songs, The Fall, the clash). Considering me and my partner only came to this pub as we exhausted the only other real vegan option in Hastings (The Hempest) it is simply stunning what the owner (very nice bloke) has manged to do in what essentially looked like a regular old pub in a housing estate.
