Miller & Carter Herne Bay in Canterbury

It was our first time at Miller & Carter Herne Bay on our way to Reculver Towers. I've been to Miller & Carter Bexley and Maidstone already and this is the best so far. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Rob, who was our waiter. He made us feel welcome and was very attentive and friendly throughout our stay. The food was delicious, both mains and desserts. I had a fillet steak in M&C Bexley and Maidstone previously, and I must say, the steak in Herne Bay was the best so kudos to the chef! There is room for improvement though, please serve olives with some sort of herbs, lemon/orange peel or/and oil. Olives should not be served plain in a restaurant, IMHO.

First time visit, fabulous food and service. Our server Lee was excellent and on hand at all times. Such a lovely vibe, great prices and will definitely be back.

We went to Miller and Carter Herne Bay today for our anniversary meal. We were served by a very bubbly, professional and smiley young lady called Riley, Riley is definitely an asset to the establishment. She was so helpful regarding the gluten free food, and nothing was too much trouble for her. The food and service was excellent as was the surroundings. We shall definitely be returning to Miller and Carter Herne Bay in the near future.

miller and carter phoned me as courier had not showed up mu order had been sittung there for a hour and half, They advised me to cancel order. i did cancel order as i had paid 50.00 for order and was going to be cold and hard and over cooked. made a refund application as i didn't want this order. 50.00 for cold hard food. They cancelled order om there end aswell. Foid unexpectedly turned up at 10.45pm last night by which time was 3 and half hours. Refund denied discusting

Our first visit to this restaurant was a letdown, despite the lovely ambiance both inside and out. As a steakhouse, we had high hopes for their burger, expecting a well-cooked and flavorful offering. Unfortunately, we were sorely mistaken. The burger itself was completely lacking in flavor and, to our astonishment, resembled a child's portion. My wife and I both thought it was a joke when our plates arrived. For around £18-19 per head, we received a minuscule burger and a paltry handful of skinny fries – I counted just 22! There wasn't even a token salad garnish. I'm not typically a big eater, but the portion size was so shockingly small that I felt compelled to mention it to our waitress, who, surprisingly, found it amusing. For nearly £20, one would expect to feel at least remotely satisfied, but both my wife and I left feeling hungry and deeply disappointed. We also conveyed our dissatisfaction to other staff members. To add insult to injury, as we left, not a single staff member offered a "thank you" or "goodbye," which came across as incredibly rude. Given the price point, the quality and quantity of the food, and the lack of basic customer courtesy, we won't be returning. Very disappointed!!? ☹️

Absolutely amazing experience! The food was simply outstanding – full of flavour, and presented with great care. The meat platter was a highlight, with juicy, tender cuts and delicious sides, and the burrata salad was fresh and vibrant. The bone marrow was rich and perfectly balanced by the pickled onions and sauce. A special mention goes to Jack , who took incredible care of us throughout the meal – warm, attentive, and truly professional. Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back!

From the moment we arrived, her warm welcome, professionalism, and attention to detail made the experience exceptional. She anticipated our needs, made great recommendations, and ensured everything ran smoothly throughout our visit. It’s rare to come across someone so naturally gifted in customer service. Dining here was a delight, and Sophia played a huge part in that. She’s a real credit to the team!

We were on holiday and treated ourselves to dinner at Miller & Carter last week . Sadly I was a little disappointed. I ordered a burger (without cheese - my choice) and when it arrived all looked good. However, the burger was overcooked and difficult to eat plus the chips were not far off being cold. They also seemed to be an end of batch portion as a lot were hard and sharp. The dinner was also very dry - maybe my fault for not having cheese but sadly I am unable to digest the latter. It didn't help that the lights went out in the ladies and I was plunged into darkness in a cubicle in a compromising position. All in all as I said above, I was very disappointed as it wasn't cheap to eat there

My steak was delicious 😋 cooked to perfection, my husbands t bone was a bit over done but the waitress Courtney was so good and bought out a lovely dessert for him and reduced the bill accordingly. A thoroughly lovely meal with a fab waitress thank you....(I was a little cold 🥶)

This is by far the worst Miller & Carter experience I have had, and I have eaten at many of restaurants and even at Herne Bay many times. The service was just awful, very young girl Riley who’s constant referral of all of us at the table as ‘my love’ or lovelies was honestly painful. The service was quite slow and when we enquired about it she said ‘it’s not her fault and it was our fault for ordering lamb’ very odd response. They had no cod available and clearly had no goats cheese available which they never told us, I only found out when I noticed it was missing off my plate. The food was dry and poorly presented, the only meal that looked nice was the steak. The cheese board, as it was missing the goats cheese, just had huge chunks of Camembert (which had not been out of the fridge to warm to room temp, as it should be) and blue cheese, cut with the same knife as there was blue cheese all up the cut sides of the Camembert. The chutney was hideous and tasted like bbq sauce, this is not a nice combination with the cheeses and the fruit toasts it comes with. I really do wish that the brand stops trying to be something that it’s not with overpriced menu, inadequate staff being referred to as ‘steak experts’ and terribly cooked/presented food. Missing the staff with a bit of experience!

Where should I begin? We were seated and had Lee assigned as our server. She was incredibly cheerful, approachable, and supportive in choosing what to eat. Lee went the extra mile to make the occasion special and even included a small birthday wish, which I thought was really lovely.

I've had the pleasure of being served by Rob twice now, and I can confidently say he has provided the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. From the moment we were seated, Rob made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about every item on the menu, including the cocktails, and his recommendations were spot-on both times. What really sets him apart, though, is his friendly and kind demeanor—he strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. Rob has made each visit better than the last, and it's clear he truly loves what he does. I’ll definitely be returning, and I’ll be asking for Rob every time!

We were greeted by Lee who was lovely. Our server Lillie was amazing and was patient as we had 3 people in our group who had allergies.

Food took a while to come out even though it wasn't busy. Fish was overcooked so had a rump steak instead but was very chewy. Chicken was burnt and dry. Most of the food was cold. The starters and desserts were nice. Lillie was lovely and the best part of the experience.

Four people were in our party, our waitress was Debbie, she was brilliant. She guided us through the menu, she was very knowledgeable and helpful she definitely gave us first class service. Hopefully next time we visit you she will be our waitress.

Hadn't been there for a while. Pre-2020, it wasn't as nice as I remembered. Still very, very good. Maybe I remembered the first experience and then embellished it myself. Still absolutely worth a visit though.

Dined as a table of 10 to celebrate my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. Catering to a table of 10 on busy Saturday evening is never easy but our hostess Debbie made it look tremendously easy, professional and personal. Drinks, food and service all came together perfectly. So thank you to the kitchen, floor and bar staff.

Went to Miller & Carter in Herne Bay today for lunch. I was served by Max, who was friendly, professional and knowledgable. He even pointed out a pairing list, so that I knew which red wine to enjoy with my steak. Excellent service and meal, as well as great value for money!

We always feel welcomed by the whole team on arrival but we are always hoping to be greeted by Steve at the door who can never do enough for us and always brings a sense of warmth to the place. So we went here last night, have been a couple of times before and everything was great. But this time not so great, we arrived on time and was seated straight away. Our waitress was lovely, and very attentive, we got our drinks then ordered our starters, I had my usual the cheese and spinach with mushrooms, now the last 2 times I've had this it was more runny and hot, this was just thick with cheese and it was cold, we was out for my dad's birthday meal so didn't want to ruin the evening by complaining. We waited way over an hour for our mains, by this time we was all very hungry, our waitress did apologise, but them being busy shouldn't be a reason for us having too wait that long for our main course, this is something they should be used too. When we did eventually get our main course again the food was only warm, I like my food hot!! But where we waited so long we really didn't enjoy our meals, ( was 5 of us ), even my dad left a bit of his steak and he never does that, to be honest we all just wanted to leave, so we didn't have pudding, paid and left. The 2 stars basically are for our waitress who couldn't do more for us. But i will never go back here again , the price you pay for the food and what we got was totally unacceptable.

A Mother's Day gift from son for dinner. Absolutely faultless for the whole evening. We had booked in advance which was wise as being a Saturday evening, it extremely busy. Our waitress, Bonnie, was delightful, very knowledgeable, engaging and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent- I had the roasted cod loin which was delicious. My preference would have been less lettuce and more Marie Rose sauce on the prawn cocktail and maybe a few additional pieces of raw vegetables such as cucumber and tomatoes, but the prawns themselves were succulent, a very good size and plenty of them. The mini dessert of salted caramel profiteroles and coffee was the perfect end to a wonderful evening. Will definitely return

Was here yesterday for a family meal the food is usually really good however had the ribs and they were bland, the sauce didn’t taste of much however dessert was next level.As well we asked for custard as a dessert and when it was brought out they gave it to me in what only could be described as Stuart littles saucepan I’m not one to usual complain but I felt as if they was mocking me as they couldn’t even put it in a bowl and give me a spoon.

Sophia was mindful to check in with us regularly and was an efficient and attentive server. We're very grateful and this made it more likely we would come back soon

This was our second time coming to miller and carter Herne bay. Admittedly our first visit was less than impressive, leaving very unhappy with the service given by management when we recieved a not so great steak, but we came back to give them a second try and I am glad we did, we was served by Riley who was an absolute darling, I ordered the lamb rump and camembert mash as an extra, my husband ordered ribs with brisket mac and cheese on the side, I also had a espresso martini (out of this world!!) Would reccomend on this experience and would reccomend the lamb with their amazing red wine jus

Had dinner here with the misses and kids. The food wasn’t bad but not amazing. Considering it took 1.5 hours to get a medium rare steak. After we asked where the food was we were told quite aggressively that some things take longer than others to cook. (We had 4 medium rare steaks). Then they brought us the food after an eternity and we had to ask for cutlery. Not sure why they couldn’t do that in the 1.5 hours they had spare. Then at the end they finally put the nail in the coffin by having the cheek to stick the vat on the final bill which you are not expecting. Everything is just really really slow there. They need a rocket put up their arse. Just get on with it mate. When I ask for the bill. I don’t want to have to wait another 10 minutes for you to go and get it. Food 7/10. Service 4/10. Do better, especially for £130

In the past I have always been happy with the service. I brought my mum especially to celebrate mother's day. I'm very disappointed this time. Booked the table at 8pm. We didn't get served until 9pm. Then the waiter made a mistake on my starter, I ordered one scallops. We were hungry at this point the waiter came back with just 'one scallop' on a plate! I couldn't believe that he would want me to have just one piece of scallop. Then the fillet steak was very chewy! If it wasn't that pricey I would just kept quiet about it but it was! Then when I came to pay, the waiter didn't even ask if I got a loyalty card. So again, this particular staff who served us was incompetent. So overall, I'm not very happy! Promising we will get a glass of bubbly or something for being a loyal member... it doesn't make me feel like I would like to come back again for a very poor service!

Ate here on 1st April 2025 as a walk in close to, as it turned out, kitchen closing time. Was told I need to order in the next 5 minutes. Had this place on my radar for a while having seen its highly rated on Google maps and read some of the 5 star reviews. This is by far, the worst steakhouse I've ever eaten at. Interior is shabby. Not terrible. But shabby. Toilet room was surprisingly low quality and no hand lotion either. Food is terrible. Refer to my uploaded images to see what I ordered. Sourdough was just OK. Nothing special. I ordered the 'award winning steak', as it says on the menu. Ordered it medium as is recommended on the menu. Steak was dry, overcooked, a third of it burnt on the outside and very very bland. Lots of gristle on one side of it. And only lukewarm. I make a killer steak at home from just supermarket bought steak, in comparison to this. They messed up their core product. The steak. Peppercorn sauce is not the best. Comes with a 'salad'. Except it's NOT a salad as it turns out. Just a lot of cheap lettuce. Layers upon layers of iceburg lettuce. The cheapest kind. I opted for the chilli with crispy onions option for the 'salad'. It's literally just sweet chilli sauce with crispy onions. I HATE sugar in my savory food. Doesn't say sweet on the menu I think for the sauce. Onion loaf is glorified onion rings. Deep fried. Not my thing. Tiny portion of some leaves on the side and a quarter of a tomato with most of the interior of it missing. Baby potatoes merely cooked with nothing added, then put into that serving pan with a thin layer of butter and I think parsley... Except there's not much of it, nor does it save these incredibly bland potatoes. Chargrilled veg is a joke. Mostly onion with 2 slices of courgette and some peppers. For £4.75. And guess what? Unseasoned. Bland. See the theme here? Peppers were cooked fine. Courgettes a little undercooked. I complained about the steak. My waitress was nice. Was told they would remake it that it'd take half an hour. Some minutes later a female manager came and said staff aren't really happy to stay for another half hour, that she can take the steak off my bill and I can have the steak. Not wanting angry staff, I chose to accept the removal of the steak off bill option. Manager not particularly pleasant. She seemed upset with me. I left most of the second set of potatoes I ordered because they're just so bland. Left all the steak that was burnt and had tons of gristle in it. Very slow service, unattentive staff. You'll see in a photo of exactly what I didn't eat. I left hungry. Would not recommend nor would I return. Very dissapointed with the food, and pretty angry I'm still hungry. I paid the price you see on the bill and STILL feel it was too much. That's how bad the food was. Yet the price it would have been had I not complained, would be £52.20. I didn't complain about the bland potatoes, and pathetic excuse for chargrilled veggies and the salad, for fear they'd think I was trying to get a free meal.

A simply seamless, thoroughly enjoyable experience, from the food, our brilliant server, Debbie, the convivial atmosphere - it was crowded on the Saturday before Mothering Sunday, yet it was hardly noticeable because orders came out promptly and together, no delays, no drama. From the warm greeting of the manager at the entrance, through to settling the bill, it was smooth sailing. Our mother loved the experience, and Debbie was great in dealing with each of us. No lie: all of us agreed that this was one of our best dining experiences ever (and we have had more than our fair share!). Our thanks.

We were given a Miller and Carter gift voucher as a wedding present, I had never been before so after spending much time on Google I was dubious but excited for our evening. Having noted the "dress code" I was nervous about what to wear which was only massively exacerbated by the sms my husband received reminding us to "adhere to our dress code". So, uncomfortably dressed up for a dinner that we had to get a train to reach, I was mortified to find people in full tracksuits, leggings, trainers. I felt like an absolute fool and wanted the ground to swallow me whole. It ruined my dining experience, as all I could think about was how stupid I looked. However, the staff were knowledgeable and the food was nice. The dessert was the highlight for me.

I was initially hesitant to visit following a dreadful experience at the Maidstone restaurant, however, our overall experience and the food proved commendable. Our waitress, Courtney, was exceptional, ensuring our visit was both enjoyable and memorable. The high quality of the food, coupled with her attentive service, guarantees our return to this establishment in the near future.

Lovely Mother's day meal, Shame the menu has changed since my last visit. That said, it was still very good. Special mention to Lee, she was our server today, my Daughter in law had a seizure (she is epileptic) she was calm and asked twice if there’s anything she could do or anything we needed, it was greatly appreciated.

Slow service with luke warm food for both starters and mains. Unfortunately slow service so unable to return food . Remember to always book a table on the right hand side of the restaurant due to it being so cold on the left ! Overall the food quality was good but the service and surroundings were poor . Not your usual standard.

We had a family dinner here last night. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. Out waitress Riley was really friendly, helpful and gave us great recommendations for all of us including the young guests. The food was delicious and good size portions. We would definitely return and recommend this place to others too. 🙂
