Miller & Carter Herne Bay in Canterbury

This was our second time coming to miller and carter Herne bay. Admittedly our first visit was less than impressive, leaving very unhappy with the service given by management when we recieved a not so great steak, but we came back to give them a second try and I am glad we did, we was served by Riley who was an absolute darling, I ordered the lamb rump and camembert mash as an extra, my husband ordered ribs with brisket mac and cheese on the side, I also had a espresso martini (out of this world!!) Would reccomend on this experience and would reccomend the lamb with their amazing red wine jus

4th time of visiting and just as good as before 4 different staff members and all equally as good as was the good should be 5 plus stars

Ate here on 1st April 2025 as a walk in close to, as it turned out, kitchen closing time. Was told I need to order in the next 5 minutes. Had this place on my radar for a while having seen its highly rated on Google maps and read some of the 5 star reviews. This is by far, the worst steakhouse I've ever eaten at. Interior is shabby. Not terrible. But shabby. Toilet room was surprisingly low quality and no hand lotion either. Food is terrible. Refer to my uploaded images to see what I ordered. Sourdough was just OK. Nothing special. I ordered the 'award winning steak', as it says on the menu. Ordered it medium as is recommended on the menu. Steak was dry, overcooked, a third of it burnt on the outside and very very bland. Lots of gristle on one side of it. And only lukewarm. I make a killer steak at home from just supermarket bought steak, in comparison to this. They messed up their core product. The steak. Peppercorn sauce is not the best. Comes with a 'salad'. Except it's NOT a salad as it turns out. Just a lot of cheap lettuce. Layers upon layers of iceburg lettuce. The cheapest kind. I opted for the chilli with crispy onions option for the 'salad'. It's literally just sweet chilli sauce with crispy onions. I HATE sugar in my savory food. Doesn't say sweet on the menu I think for the sauce. Onion loaf is glorified onion rings. Deep fried. Not my thing. Tiny portion of some leaves on the side and a quarter of a tomato with most of the interior of it missing. Baby potatoes merely cooked with nothing added, then put into that serving pan with a thin layer of butter and I think parsley... Except there's not much of it, nor does it save these incredibly bland potatoes. Chargrilled veg is a joke. Mostly onion with 2 slices of courgette and some peppers. For £4.75. And guess what? Unseasoned. Bland. See the theme here? Peppers were cooked fine. Courgettes a little undercooked. I complained about the steak. My waitress was nice. Was told they would remake it that it'd take half an hour. Some minutes later a female manager came and said staff aren't really happy to stay for another half hour, that she can take the steak off my bill and I can have the steak. Not wanting angry staff, I chose to accept the removal of the steak off bill option. Manager not particularly pleasant. She seemed upset with me. I left most of the second set of potatoes I ordered because they're just so bland. Left all the steak that was burnt and had tons of gristle in it. Very slow service, unattentive staff. You'll see in a photo of exactly what I didn't eat. I left hungry. Would not recommend nor would I return. Very dissapointed with the food, and pretty angry I'm still hungry. I paid the price you see on the bill and STILL feel it was too much. That's how bad the food was. Yet the price it would have been had I not complained, would be £52.20. I didn't complain about the bland potatoes, and pathetic excuse for chargrilled veggies and the salad, for fear they'd think I was trying to get a free meal.

In the past I have always been happy with the service. I brought my mum especially to celebrate mother's day. I'm very disappointed this time. Booked the table at 8pm. We didn't get served until 9pm. Then the waiter made a mistake on my starter, I ordered one scallops. We were hungry at this point the waiter came back with just 'one scallop' on a plate! I couldn't believe that he would want me to have just one piece of scallop. Then the fillet steak was very chewy! If it wasn't that pricey I would just kept quiet about it but it was! Then when I came to pay, the waiter didn't even ask if I got a loyalty card. So again, this particular staff who served us was incompetent. So overall, I'm not very happy! Promising we will get a glass of bubbly or something for being a loyal member... it doesn't make me feel like I would like to come back again for a very poor service!

Had dinner here with the misses and kids. The food wasn’t bad but not amazing. Considering it took 1.5 hours to get a medium rare steak. After we asked where the food was we were told quite aggressively that some things take longer than others to cook. (We had 4 medium rare steaks). Then they brought us the food after an eternity and we had to ask for cutlery. Not sure why they couldn’t do that in the 1.5 hours they had spare. Then at the end they finally put the nail in the coffin by having the cheek to stick the vat on the final bill which you are not expecting. Everything is just really really slow there. They need a rocket put up their arse. Just get on with it mate. When I ask for the bill. I don’t want to have to wait another 10 minutes for you to go and get it. Food 7/10. Service 4/10. Do better, especially for £130

We were given a Miller and Carter gift voucher as a wedding present, I had never been before so after spending much time on Google I was dubious but excited for our evening. Having noted the "dress code" I was nervous about what to wear which was only massively exacerbated by the sms my husband received reminding us to "adhere to our dress code". So, uncomfortably dressed up for a dinner that we had to get a train to reach, I was mortified to find people in full tracksuits, leggings, trainers. I felt like an absolute fool and wanted the ground to swallow me whole. It ruined my dining experience, as all I could think about was how stupid I looked. However, the staff were knowledgeable and the food was nice. The dessert was the highlight for me.

A simply seamless, thoroughly enjoyable experience, from the food, our brilliant server, Debbie, the convivial atmosphere - it was crowded on the Saturday before Mothering Sunday, yet it was hardly noticeable because orders came out promptly and together, no delays, no drama. From the warm greeting of the manager at the entrance, through to settling the bill, it was smooth sailing. Our mother loved the experience, and Debbie was great in dealing with each of us. No lie: all of us agreed that this was one of our best dining experiences ever (and we have had more than our fair share!). Our thanks.

Lovely Mother's day meal, Shame the menu has changed since my last visit. That said, it was still very good. Special mention to Lee, she was our server today, my Daughter in law had a seizure (she is epileptic) she was calm and asked twice if there’s anything she could do or anything we needed, it was greatly appreciated.

I was initially hesitant to visit following a dreadful experience at the Maidstone restaurant, however, our overall experience and the food proved commendable. Our waitress, Courtney, was exceptional, ensuring our visit was both enjoyable and memorable. The high quality of the food, coupled with her attentive service, guarantees our return to this establishment in the near future.

Had a lovely meal out with family, our server Courtney was lovely, very friendly and fun, made the evening very enjoyable, food was amazing, very happy. Courtney even persuaded me to go for the cheesecake too, which was delicious.

Slow service with luke warm food for both starters and mains. Unfortunately slow service so unable to return food . Remember to always book a table on the right hand side of the restaurant due to it being so cold on the left ! Overall the food quality was good but the service and surroundings were poor . Not your usual standard.

Jess was happy and smiley and was very attentive throughout our dining experience. Made my Mother’s Day meal even more special. Food was fantastic!

Fantastic food. Our server was Rob and he was very friendly and helpful. My daughter was wearing a hidden disability lanyard and although he didn't mention it he was very careful with taking her order, asking if anything needed to be adapted for her meal. Thanks Rob!

Had Surf & Turf, lobster tails were over cooked and very chewy, the fillet steak was cooked to perfection and saved the meal

We had a family dinner here last night. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. Out waitress Riley was really friendly, helpful and gave us great recommendations for all of us including the young guests. The food was delicious and good size portions. We would definitely return and recommend this place to others too. 🙂

My favourite at millet and carter is the onion loaf ,we visit various Miller and Carters regularly and unfortunately the loaf seems to be very very hard to crisp so that it can’t be cut with a knife ,it used to be lovely but not any more ,please sort it miller and Carter

Cold. But probably more miller & Carter’s fault. Packed in paper bags not in heat retaining packages. Driver probably delivering others before mine.

Only ordered delivery because I am ill. Food barely tepid. Onion loaf soggy and cold. Steak cold also. Potatoes half dead. Shame. I really love eating in the restaurant. Food not packaged to keep warm. Paper bags and card containers left food cold and unappetising.

Had the Sunday Sharing Platter. Absolutely delicious, our waitress LEE was amazing, lovely atmosphere as always, highly recommend

Always visit Miller and Carter Herne Bay, our last visit Sunday 9th March was exceptional My husband had some dietary needs due to illness and the Deputy Manager Steve went over and beyond to make sure my husband’s needs were met, all the staff were helpful, considerate , attentive and made our visit a wonderful experience, thank you all so much for a wonderful lunch.

Fantastic food, service from Lee our waitress was faultless very attentive and personal even at busy times,loved the recommendations Lee made for our meal to be it's absolute best. Recommend the butchers block, we will definitely be returning.

This was our third visit. Lovely food - we ordered the Dirty Burger and T bone steak. Courtney the waitress was very friendly and attentive. She had a great sense of humour making us feel welcomed. We booked our table 30 minutes before we arrived and glad we did because it was very busy.

I chose the lunch menu but the salad I had with the fish cakes could be improved. Far too much green, the lettuce with the dressing and crispy onions would have been a better option.

The food here is always excellent, and I would have given 5 stars. However, this is the second time my ribs order has arrived without the chips and coleslaw. Once the food has been delivered, it’s quite difficult to get in touch with the restaurant to have the missing items sent. A bit more attention to detail with orders and an easier way to resolve issues would make the experience perfect.

I love it so much, we went for our brothers birthday, our server Courtney was amazing and very friendly. They gave my brother a little dish saying happy birthday at dessert. I loved the food i had the king prawns, ribs and sticky toffee pudding. They cater excellently for my gluten free food restrictions

Absolutely stellar service! Big shout out to Lillie, very bubbly and knowledgeable. I hadn’t been before and I’m not the best at reading. She was able to help me order exactly what I wanted. Food was unreal. That wagyu steak was nectar. Really liked the everleaf drink - the one with the raspberry dust. I could drink that by the pint! My only gripe is parking spaces (not enough)- I know there’s not a lot you can do about that so I won’t mark it down. 10/10 experience overall. Thank you for a fantastic evening.

Great steaks, lovely staff who were very accommodating, especially with the gluten free menu options. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Recommended.

We had the valentine sharer board and it was the best meal I’ve ever eaten. Very good value for money- £95 for two - (although it sounds expensive it is a lot of high quality food - large portion sizes). Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and we will be coming back.

I honestly can’t think of anything worthy of criticism. Everything from booking in early, waiting at the bar with an alarm for when our table was ready, to service, standard of food, speed of waiting for our meal, paying and exit. Everything was perfect. Thank you very much for a memorable Valentine meal!

We have always enjoyed Miller and Carter never had a bad experience, that is until yesterday Sunday26th January, we checked in and said we would have a drink before we order our meal we asked where our table was ( we had a booking) and was told by the manager " I don.t know yet I will let you know" When we did get to a table it was fine we had a bit of a wait for someone to take our order, when we got our food it was not very hot I had a fillet steak which I asked for well done it was black and tough the veg was cold the peas were black as was the top of the broccoli,my husband also had a tough steak and couldn,t eat it all so as you can imagine we were very disappointed with the food this time and very surprised at the standard of the food I think the waitress was the only saving grace of the evening.

We have been coming here for years. Unfortunately I will not go back to this establishment ever again tainted my daughter’s special birthday. We paid cash left it in their wallet to then have the “front of house manager” who thinks he is better than others come out and ask if I had paid. Their waitress had not checked the table and in his words “she saw you walk out!” Normally Chris and Rob are fantastic however neither were on. I have emailed head office and I have had an email from the area manager who I am sorry needs some customer service on how to be more empathetic! I have deleted the app, lost my vouchers and will never return. The waitressing team use to be so kind, caring and quite honestly a delight. We use to love the Tik Tocs they did. My daughter had had a wonderful day up until going here but was so upset with how they treated her and I. Would not recommend and I only did 1 if I could I would have not given any rating

Absolutely terrible service for the second time. Very disappointed, from time of taking our order to table we waited 2 hours, when we asked our waitress where our food was she was quite snappy and said sorry but it’s very busy and at least we had had our starters, Then a very polite boy came and spoke to us and apologised for the wait, and assured us that our food won’t be long, it took another half an hour to arrive, and then the meat was cold, the only thing that was edible was the veg. My husband only ate his meal because he hadn't eaten all day. This is the 2nd time we’ve had this experience and won’t be returning

We were served by Jack, he was lovely and very good at his job. We ordered a burger and steak, it did take around half a hour to arrive but the restaurant was fully booked. Food was lovely would definitely come again.

We were early on arrival so were kindly shown the bar area until our table became available. The place was absolutely buzzing and fully booked but you could see the staff and management were on the ball trying to please tables as fast as they could. Around 15 minutes after our original booking (not a moan) we were shown to our table and hosted by a fantastic and attentive waitress, she really could not have gone any further on how professional she was! The ritz would snap her up in a heartbeat ( sadly we forgot her name.) The food arrived quickly and was fantastic, tasty, well presented and value for money. We couldn’t have asked for more and are surprised to read some of the recent negative posts. I suppose some people don’t understand hospitality and having to wait when a restaurant is fully booked. Still at least we wont have to listen to moaning if they won’t return 🤣

I went out for a meal on the 25th January Consider the price that we had to pay I didn’t know I’d be paying the rent as-well, took nearly 4 hours to get our main courses couldn’t believe it when it arrived and it was cold! Butter hadn’t even melted on the steak it was had the chips even been cooked!! Awful experience never again don’t put yourself through it had to get a McDonald’s on the way home!

We came here as a party of 16 for a birthday. The table was booked for 7pm which was not ready on arrival, understandable as the restaurant was very busy. We had a hour wait for starters and then another two hour wait for mains. Luckily we had arranged for a birthday cake to be brought to the table, as i expect we would have been waiting until early hours of the morning for our deserts. Overall a three hour waiting for mains after a few of our guests did not order starters is not acceptable. Also the fact we had small children with us and the manager on shift was not able to give us an idea how longer our food would be is crazy. Overall a really poor managed place with average food when you could drive to London have a nice meal out and still get back by the time we had our bill. The only saving grace was our waiter Rob, he was so polite, apologetic and deserved so much better than his kitchen team letting him down so badly. If this restaurant had 10 Robs working they would be in a much better place.

Our server Lillie was amazingly friendly and helpful, which made mine and our partners night extra special as nothing was too much to ask for. The food was incredible and the red wine was just as good.

Could have watched all 8 Harry Potter films in the time it took for the main courses to come out … Joking aside, we would never go back. The table wasn’t ready when we arrived… then from ordering it took 1 hour for the starters to arrive and then a further 2 hours for the mains to arrive We were here for a birthday, it was a large table but several other small tables experienced the same issues… the manager offered no insight when asked how long our food would be, he just shrugged and said ‘sorry I don’t know’… pretty useless to be honest, especially when we had kids with us who were starving … The only saving grace was Rob, our waiter… he deserves a medal and a pay rise! He was lovely and faultless, we couldn’t have asked any more from him!

Amazing family meal, I loved the lamb & lemon tart. Debbie waited on us perfectly, was so polite, informative & friendly. The perfect waitress & I did the job years ago so I should know.😄

Came here for lunch for the first time today, we had holly looking after us and she was absolutely amazing, her knowledge of the menu and recommendations were incredible and she couldn’t do enough for us. Definitely recommending to everyone I know. And we will definitely be back as soon as possible Thank you again 🙌🏼👏🏼
