Visited here as I do regularly, not sure why I thought it would be any different to any other visit. Last visit before this I went in for a coffee only to be told it wasn't possible as they had cleaned down the coffee machine, 20 minutes prior to closing - to me a closing time is a closing time to the public and up until that point you serve them, then cleaning down commences after, but I could be wrong. This time I asked for a plain cheese sandwich after checking the shelves to which there was only tuna mayo & egg salad (something similar) left. The lady behind the counter refused to do this for me, blaming Natasha's Law, now I take this very seriously and understand the reasoning behind, however this law regards pre packaged food & labelling. As this isn't the first time I have been refused by the same lady something other than what's on the shelf (which most of the time may I add is hardly anything because they only make a certain amount & have a "it is what it is attitude". ) I am putting it down to pure laziness. It is a shame as Usk doesn't have a decent bakery. It is hardly ever open due to staff shortages, they aren't willing to branch out on customer requests and the attitude is far from hospitable.

Lovely place for good, really friendly staff and food was amazing. They are very dog friendly, a water bowl was offered which was nice. We walked to it, so not sure about parking. Food was really good, we had a steak and also mushroom risotto, very good and recommended. Starters were whitebait and garlic mushrooms, both highly recommended. I had curry the last time I was there, I hope you have a big appetite as it was a generous amount served. Enjoy.

Called here at 14.45 for a quick drink when out in Monmouth after checking opening times on Trip Advisor which clearly state 11.00am to 22.30. Doors were open and walked in. Open fire was roaring. A gentleman walked out of the kitchen (clearly the landlord) and just looked at me. I smiled and asked if he was open to which he replied quite rudely ‘no 4pm’ I said oh sorry we just saw it advertised. He snapped quite uninterested’Not on our website you didn’t’ to which I said, ah it was Trip Advisor. ‘Nothing to do with me’ he says and walked off! Glad they weren’t open as I wouldn’t want to give him my hard earned pennies!

Run by youngsters without supervision. Very slow service, considering the place was empty. Tables left dirty with used mugs/cups/plates etc. staff decided to clean the air con unit about the service counter, which displayed food etc. Customers in and out and walking around a ladder and other bits. Disappointed we had chosen this venue to meet up with friends, so many other choices in town.

I recommend this place to colleagues following a site visit nearby, having been previously for drinks. When we arrived at 11.30 there were several tables reserved, so the waitress showed me to a table. At this point there was only 1 other person in the cafe. We ordered breakfast comprising of 2 full English, 2 eggs Benedict and a sausage and mushroom sandwich, together with hot drinks. The drinks arrived after about 10 minutes and then we waited. The other reserved tables also started to fill, and these took priority over everything else. After 30 minutes I asked how much longer and the waitress advised ‘not too long’, so we ordered another round of teas and coffee. Still no sign of the food, but the other tables were being served. Eventually at 12.40 ( 1 hour 10 minutes later) out came breakfast. Mine was a bacon sandwich- which I didn’t order and the others all just warm . The miserable lady said I could have the bacon sandwich FOC which I declined. If I wanted a bacon sandwich I would have ordered one. I had no time to wait for my sandwich to be cooked so left without eating. The others eat their Luke warm dishes. We were all stunned that no apology was given , apparently we should have been advised of the hour wait. Naturally had this happened we would have gone elsewhere. In other words our own fault My recommendation is to avoid this place - I also recommend the miserable woman learns how to look after her customers by simply saying “sorry that the wait is longer than expected, please have a refill on your drinks . The waitress at the front desk however was very nice, although she failed to tell us about the delay.

Wow !!!! Youth club with alcohol ! Avoid , avoid , avoid on a Friday night if you want a drink in a grown up pub. Kids and I mean kids were being sold alcohol , pub full of teenagers . Two of my friends were waiting at bar to buy drinks (old school) but both experienced hassle down to the kids pushing and shoving , trying to get served was stressful. Ladies toilets full up constantly with young girls sitting on sink area , blocking the toilets .

Visited on a Sunday evening. Noticed on the bar how they claim to be a 'pie pub' with pies crafted by a top celebrity chef. So naturally gravitated to having the ham hock and leek pie. Let's just say what a complete let down. The crust top of the pie and rim around the pie was as hard as concrete. Inedible. The underside of the pie 'lid' was black/burnt. It was as if the pie had been sat in the oven all day. £15 for a pie! I should have sent it back but instead just ate the filing. My mistake. Mentioned it to the server who cleared the table and she said "I'll mention it to the kitchen". We sat & waited but no recourse. No apology. We left.

Met up with friends - lovely quick service and meal as expected (witherspoons norm) very busy and all of us had to congregate round a small table as single people nursing a pint sat in booths!!! Major criticism was air conditioning blowing straight on us and freezing - all woke up with colds this morning

Hadn’t bothered to read reviews but cafe was busy when we arrived on our long walk from Chepstow. Needed to refuel so stopped here. We had lovely sandwiches, clearly freshly made on warm baguette. The staff that served were all very nice. Food arrived fairly promptly. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back. There were dogs wandering but we like dogs so no problem, all were well behaved. Possibly a little pricey but I don’t mind if everything else is good…and it was.

Used to be great here. It has now gone over to a dreadful buffet. Went for a celebration and it was not good at all. So sad. However, Three Elephants just down the road is phenomenal. Same owners as the amazing Hattis in Newport and Three Moghuls. Avoid this place and go to one of those instead.

Shocking. Myself and 3 friends ordered haddock and chips as takeaway. Server was surly, rude and disinterested. When food arrived fish size was small and poor quality. Fish was broken and half the chips were hard and inedible. No salt, vinegar or mushy peas was offered. Very disappointing.
