I've visited a few times in the last couple of months. Twice for dinner and twice for breakfast. Can't fault the service and the prices are unbelievable - a main and large soft drink for around £10, or breakfast and unlimited tea/coffee for just over £4. Pub was busy and lively too - I wasn't expecting Chepstow to have a vibrant night life.

We visit here on a regular basis. Great location. Recently they seem to struggle to clear the dishes off the tables so it spoils the atmosphere a little. Staff are friendly and helpful when they are available but they are so busy, i feel sorry for them, they obviously need extra help to keep on top of things. Food is always good, tasty and hot and great value for money. With a few extra staff this would definitely be 5 stars.

The waitress was polite and said it would be another 5 mins. Her duty manager by here was nothing but rude. Food was delivered 20 mins after order, drinks were a further 25 mins. Nipped into The Bell Hanger for a bit to eat before a gig and it was about as standard a Wetherspoons pub as you could ever hope to find. Saturday evening and it was pretty busy, pretty grubby and pretty ordinary. Almost as if somebody had sucked all the life out of the pub experience and replaced it with a steady stream of tedium, chips and half drunk youngsters. It wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience and the food reflected that fact. Two fish and chips arrived through the throng and was placed on our tables by an unsmiling assassin. The fish was something pretending to be cooked and edible and the chips were more flaccid than a pensioner looking for his little blue tablets. Not good

The place was a complete and utter mess. Dirty plates were just left on the tables while about five members of staff were just casually hanging around behind the bar. Our table was sticky. My friends and I had only came in for some desserts and were left completely disappointed. We know the place isn’t going to have fancy desserts but our ice creams were completely melted. It was like a soup. And we had waited ages for our desserts as well, so they must have just left it on the side waiting for someone to bring it to us. Our cutlery was dirty which had put us off our desserts. We had even waited ages for them to bring another ice cream out for my friend’s baby which never even happened. And when my friend went to change her child, she was appalled by how dirty the bathroom was and how the smell in there was overwhelming. The place is just completely unhygienic and has gone down hill. It used to be good and clean place.

The environment in the middle area of the pub was okay, although parts of it were quite dark. The men's toilets were difficult to find and identify but okay. The prices were surprisingly expensive - either all of Wetherspoons' prices have gone up or this one is just special in a bad way. The pasta alfredo was a small portion (although standard across the chain's pubs) and it was quite stodgy, although it tasted nice enough. The other meals were okay but not brilliant. Although, my dessert of a chocolate fudge cake was very tasty. Both the knives and forks, and the spoons for dessert when they came were dirty, and we needed to ask for clean ones on both occasions. These weren't much better and we had to wipe them off with the napkins. The menus seem old and grubby and the table wasn't clean. All in all not a gourmet meal but you do have to lower your expectations when going to a Wetherspoons.

Terrible experience here, on a recent weekday lunch, with my elderly parents and 23- year-old daughter. The fish and chips were good, but the curry was cold, undercooked, and the naan bread stale. However our real grievance is with the staff. Uncooperative and stubborn, they refused to serve my 23-year-old daughter a glass of beer to consume with us because she did not have ID. I pointed out that as her mother I could vouch for her age, but the bartender refused point blank. I therefore compliantly accepted that 1 drink be removed from the order. However, for some reason the bartender went on to serve my daughter's beer anyway. Assuming this meant that it was OK after all, I paid for it, and we took the drinks to the table. But a few minutes later the manager disrupted our meal to demand ID, again, and eventually took my daughter’s beer away. It was rude and embarrassing. The manager refused to apologise, nor did he offer to replace the drink or refund it, even after my father took him aside to express his outrage. All in all, and extremely unprofessional manner - the staff in this establishment visibly have no idea when and where to apply discretion with regard to their 'looking under 25' rule, and cannot tell the difference between a well-behaved young adult enjoying a beer as part of lunch with her family on a week day, and rowdy binge-drinking teenagers on a weekend night. All in all, this was a disagreeable experience that has left us a bad memory, and a very bad impression of this pub, and probably Wetherspoons at large. We will definitely not be returning here.

I stopped in after not being in a wetherspoons for the best part of 3 years after reading many reviews good and bad I thought it would be a good opportunity to drop in and see how things are running now.. I set myself at a table with my mug of coffee as I intended to get some work done whilst enjoying the "Spoons" Ambience. The pub was fairly busy being a Saturday just after lunchtime with a game of rugby being shown on the big screen. I did not have any food but had noticed a sizeable price increase including the one that shocked me £4.23! When did a bowl of Wetherspoons chips become so expensive??!! Anyway, I enjoyed the coffee in its unlimited form alongside the Pint of Thatchers Gold in which I sampled. The thatchers was ordered via the App and the delivery time was around 12 minutes, seeing how busy it was this is more than acceptable. All the staff seemed to be happy with a positive attitude, and even one of the staff stopping to chat with me which was a nice touch. As my laptop began to run out of Battery power I asked the manager if there was anywhere that I could plug in to continue my work, he said there were a couple of plug sockets but all those tables were taken. It was nice to see tables getting cleared and staff that seemed happy or that is how they portrayed themselves, which is a pleasant find in a wetherspoons pub from the usual grunt and nod. Things do have seemed to improve here at the Bellhanger and I will without doubt return in future for some food. Finally the Bellhanger have sorted the issues out and it was a very pleasant afternoon indeed.

Won't call it the most excellently staffed. But it does draw a crowd so. The meal though is surprisingly excellent for the price and there is a nice atmosphere.

Visited on a Sunday morning. All tables available, and there were quite a few, were still covered with previous customers plates etc. I cleared a table and asked at the bar, where there were 4 assistants chatting, as nobody waiting to be served, for something to wipe table and was given disinfectant and a cloth. No help offered or apology. Poor management and not something I expected from paid employees. We ordered breakfasts, and although brilliant for the price, it was luke warm. Sadly I felt that to mention it would be a waste of time as nobody seemed they would be particularly interested or bothered. The service was bad and the pub messy.

Very disappointed. We entered at about 11:30. There were plenty of empty tables but they were all dirty and had not been cleaned. There were staff standing around chatting to each other . They hardly moved when asked to clear a table. In the end we cleared a table our selves. They gave us cleaning materials to do the job!! Whoever manages the establishment clearly has no control over staff. We were relatively happy with the food but it could have been hotter.

My friend booked a table for six a good six weeks in advance, only to find on turning up there was no record of our booking. It was only by luck that as the customer foot print was low that we were able to get a table. When we asked what went wrong reference our booking, no explanation was given. This would never have happened under the previous ownership.

We’ve been in the restaurant a couple of times now. We especially liked the helpful young man who takes you to your seat. The food has been consistently good and would definitely recommend. The jacket potato with mushroom, bacon and Stilton is a winner with me!

Great staff and great food. Very good with my odd allergy.Would highly recommend it as it's the best Chinese in the area, I moved a little further away from abergavenny but still travel for this chinese takeaway as I have not found better! Thank you to the staff for their patients and professionalism, and the food is 👍

The chips wasnt all that bad. But the fish was a throw away - far too oily. It was topped by a total lack of a smile or some resemblance of wanting to be there. I was served by a young lady who was dressed all in black which was well aligned to a Halloween theme of doom and gloom.
