Lovely place for good, really friendly staff and food was amazing. They are very dog friendly, a water bowl was offered which was nice. We walked to it, so not sure about parking. Food was really good, we had a steak and also mushroom risotto, very good and recommended. Starters were whitebait and garlic mushrooms, both highly recommended. I had curry the last time I was there, I hope you have a big appetite as it was a generous amount served. Enjoy.

Had lunch today with family. Service was great, prompt and not over bearing. I had soup for starter and George burger. Both were amazing and hot, fresh and very nice. Daughter had whitebait and curry. She loved whitebait and said curry was nice. Our third family member had garlic mushrooms and club sandwich. It was huge! Overall. With 2 drinks each, I think it was a fine experience and very reasonably priced.

The food was really good 👍🏼 The surroundings were horrendous! Freezing cold, we all ate with our coats on! The music was SO!!! loud we couldn't talk. We couldn't hear each other when we were shouting, it was exhausting.I asked if the music could be turned down as we were dining and was told 'No' ...it was the busiest night of the year!.....🤷🏼♂️....😂

Popped in for a drink. Super nice staff. Sunday evening 6ish and it closed early. The top of town in Chepstow needs an injection of tourist and development money. The locals need to support this historic watering hole. Good pot of tea too.

Family birthday here, we had Sunday lunch here. Good service, good real ale. My aunt worked here in the 50's & 60's when it was full silver service. Changed a lot since!,😊

Me and my partner have eaten at the George a couple of times, once it was brilliant- nearly a year ago- but every other time has been terrible. I now won't go back unless I hear something has changed significantly. Last trip I ordered pork belly and dauphinoise potatoes. The service was very slow, yet confused. The pork was really overcooked, dry and chewy, and the potatoes were not dauphinoise - they were big chunks of undercooked potato swimming in runny cream. It was all gross. Literally one of the worst meals I've ever paid for.

This is always lovely for food and we like coming here but why are younger staff either great at customer service or some need to take a look at what they wear and the customer service.

Beer was OK. Prices OK. Food looked OK for a pub, we didn't have any so can't comment.

We visited for drinks and really liked the relaxed atmosphere. Wine and beer hit the spot. We visited another couple of bars and returned to the George.

Wednesday is steak night and we has 10 oz rump on a sizzle platter. Fantastic, one of the best I have ever had. Great, friendly service. Totally recommend The George.

Average meal. Service was good but very slow. Veg selection was missing broccoli and when I privately commented was told not to return to restaurant. I was wrong about the lamb comments but did not expect a hostile reply. Roast potato’s were not crispy and they were hard.

For the price the food and service are not great - real shame as looked promising.

Proper old style bohemian pub with multiple rooms of various sizes. Well worth a visit if you're in Abergavenny.

Called here at 14.45 for a quick drink when out in Monmouth after checking opening times on Trip Advisor which clearly state 11.00am to 22.30. Doors were open and walked in. Open fire was roaring. A gentleman walked out of the kitchen (clearly the landlord) and just looked at me. I smiled and asked if he was open to which he replied quite rudely ‘no 4pm’ I said oh sorry we just saw it advertised. He snapped quite uninterested’Not on our website you didn’t’ to which I said, ah it was Trip Advisor. ‘Nothing to do with me’ he says and walked off! Glad they weren’t open as I wouldn’t want to give him my hard earned pennies!
