We visited whilst on our way down to Builth Wells. A family of 8. Food was fabulous very tasty. Staff extremely friendly and worked very fast to serve our Sunday lunch. Very large portions and a huge bowl of cauliflower cheese unfortunately only one of our party liked that so a lot went to waste. We would definitely recommend!
Diolch yn fawr/thank you very much
we went out for a family meal we ordered our drinks and food but the landlord was so incredibly rude and made us feel not welcome that we ate our meal which was not good we just left we shall not be returning think the landlord needs go learn sum manners
As always, the welcome and the food were second to none. We enjoyed a delicious and relaxed dinner with visiting family and local friends. Our go to place.
I’m a big Costa fan, but I always walk past this one when on the area as the outside is so unwelcoming. Dirty looking and lots of flaky paint. On this occasion we popped in for a coffee. The staff are friendly enough, but I thought the floors were very dirty , they could do with a deep clean not just a wash over. Not sure if I would call again.
We are staying in the area and have just had the steak and Guinness pie here at The White Lion Hotel.
It is the best steak pie we have found in the area....proper homemade pie, rammed full of tender meat with not a piece of fat or gristle in sight!
We are pie eating experts and this has gone to the top of our list!
Kudos to the chef 👨🍳 👏
Bloomin' scrummy!
Thank you 😊
I ordered a takeaway in store and was told it would be 5-10 minutes. 25 minutes later, having watched the chaos of the takeaway/delivery section and food. sat on the side for 10-15 minutes going cold, I was given my food.
Sure enough, I get home (a five minute drive) and everything is stone cold and needed microwaving. I phoned the store that night to see if the Duty Manager could help but he advised me to email Nandos directly. I received a prompt but pitiful response that only acknowledged the wait not the cold food and a woeful voucher off. I challenged the offer and was told it was to “go towards a more positive experience”.
Sorry Nandos, you won’t have the chance. I will just cook at home and save my money on what is simply over priced flavoured chicken and chips.
Very disappointed.☹️ dull boring deserted public bar. No prices displayed as required by law. THERE WAS A REASON.
SHANDY £5.90 PER PINT
Another pub on corner of Bridge St only £3.60, and much more lively atmosphere.
Choice of Thai or English menus in a roomy bar area with a small choice of beers. Pleasant service and the Thai dishes we had were very good - but it was clear that you have to book even if a resident in the hotel, and they do seem to severely limit the number of people able to eat at any one time and are very slow preparing the meals.
The food was good but that’s it , ordered Welsh rarebit but it wasn’t what we ordered, it was onion chutney and cheese on top, so totally wrong chefs need training in a dish that we all know so well in wales .
But it tasted really good, if we ordered cheese on toast it’d be 4.5/5 , 2 star as it was just cheese on toast.
The cawl was okay, but sadly the lamb wasn’t shredded it was blocks , so it just didn’t seem right. Like it wasn’t boiled for the amount of time it should have been and was slightly bland , tasted nice though but not that real cawl that we are used to. Once again tasted nice but a 3.5/5 .
We only stopped for a quick nonalcoholic drink and a bowl of chips, but the staff were polite and efficient, the chips were very good indeed!
The place was clean and tidy, including the toilets.
There is an outside area, but parking spaces are limited right outside, and limited to 1 hour only, but there is a large car park in easy walking distance.
Ordered the 3 meals for £14.95 chicken wings chicken strips chicken nuggets
The portions were very small 5 small chicken nuggets chicken wings think there was 4/5 embarrassing, then no sauces came had to pay for 3 selected sauces £2.45 so £17.95 all in not great
Waitress behind bar was rude again and signal for the app was horrendous
Will be carful what I order next
Good cosy spot for breakfast in central Hay-on-Wye for breakfast. We enjoyed terrific poached eggs on toast with sausage and avocado on toast. With excellent coffee, we were well set up for serious browsing in the many shops which constitute the world’s second-hand book capital. The bill came to £26.75 for two.
Went for lunch with family to celebrate a birthday. Chicken Tikka was one of the meals chosen . Half way through the meal two pieces of black plastic were found in the meal . So only half the meal was eaten . Went to the bar to point out the problem and the lady behind the bar was really apologetic and a refund of the meal was issued. Bit disappointing really 😕
