Went to the Showmakers on recommendation of the host of the airbnb we were staying at. Delighted we did as we wouldn't have found it otherwise. Good value - honest food - real home made chips and proper locally made pies. It's a community pub and clearly appreciated by the local community. Definitely worth making the journey

We visited this pub three times during the week we stayed near Trecastle and thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the company of some local sheep farmers. Great atmosphere and delightful pub, would thoroughly recommend. They do prefer you to make bookings if you want to eat, so worth a phone call to make sure that they have a table for you.

We visited with friends one evening and loved it which was why when we planned to meet up with some family members a couple of days later we decided to return! Says it all doesn’t it! Meals were excellent, staff friendly and great ambiance. We haven’t visited for many years but can see the place has been very tastefully upgraded. The prices are extremely reasonable but the standard of food is excellent!

Was staying in a holiday cottage over the road, which I can’t find to leave a review but if I did it would be a 3, as got mugged for £40 for bringing dogs even though I’d ticked the box on Booking.com for pet friendly. But this pub is awesome, I cannot fault it, the landlord/manager is the most friendliest host I’ve met, the food is awesome, I had the chilli con carne one night and the bumper burger the next and left completely full. Would most definitely without hesitation come back to the Shoemakers.

This is a pub that was rescued by the local community in a lovely part of South Wales. A cream lime-washed longhouse style cottage of a building that you couldn't beat for atmosphere. It is now run by a very friendly landlord and a great team, has a good range of beers and really generous and tasty Sunday roasts. I have mainly stopped in for a drink, and haven't eaten here yet apart from Sunday lunches - it isn't a gastro pub (and all the better for it) so if you are visiting for the food expect to find pub classics like scampi and chips, lasagne, sarnies etc on the board; if anything like the roasts you will be delighted. A hidden jewel.

On the last day of our recent stay we visited The Shoemakers Arms. We walked the 3 miles from the cottage we were staying in.....and it was totally worth the effort. The Shoemakers Arms is authentic, traditional, genuine and homely. It treated us to the best of Welsh hospitality including a group of local farmers going through their repertoire of ‘drinking songs’. The food was excellent! His lovely wife made sure that we were well looked after, even calling the children in from the garden for us when it was time to eat. Though you won't find pizza and chicken nugget style food here, they happily adjust the menu to suit the children's tastes - which they can do as it's cooked from scratch. My 3 loved it and the only thing that defeated any of us was size of the portions - huge! Would really recommend it to anyone living locally or staying in the surrounding area. Enjoy!

The first view of the Shoemakers, after a few miles of winding lanes, sets up a suspicion that it could be the perfect country inn. The setting is beautiful and the tiny, daffodil yellow pub looks idyllic. Then once inside the welcome makes you feel sure you're in the hands of hosts who really know what they are doing - friendly, interested, warm, but not at all intrusive. Even my socially awkward teenagers thawed out, chatted, possibly smiled. Food was unpretentious, cooked with care and nicely presented; the house wine was great value and obviously chosen by landlords Gwyneth and Salvo because they like it. We left planning our next visit.

Id certainly go back and would recommend this place to anybody staying in Brecon.

We visited this pub in the summer holidays with our new puppy Chilli. It was the first time we had ever gone away and we're finding it tricky to find suitable places to eat. After a search on doggiepubs we headed for the Shoemakers Arms. Thankfully Salvo took pity on us as we went on a wet and windy Tuesday evening, arriving at opening time - the kitchen usually closed on Tues evening and for other days you need to book in advance. It was one of the most memorable evenings we have had on our holidays. it felt like we were eating with a long lost friend. The food was fabulous and very filling and we felt very cared for. I would definitely recommend this pub to all and we look forward to returning in February!

We had a warm & friendly welcome from Gwyneth. To start I had Gwyneths recommendation of the homemade leek & potato soup. The main course of roast beef accompanied by a good selection of fresh vegetables, all cooked to perfection. We both thoroughly enjoyed the meal, will definitely visit again & would have no hesitation recommending it to others.Salvo who is the chef even took the trouble to introduce himself & check if we were satisfied with our meal. What a find this country pub is! Just remember you do have to book in advance.

We stayed in the village in a beautiful holiday cottage for 2 nights. Unfortunately the pub was closed until Saturday evening as the owners had been on their annual holidays therefore we we were unable to sample the Fayre. We stayed for drinks for a few hours and were made to feel very welcome. The owners and locals were very hospitable and we had great fun in such a friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend a visit if touring the beautiful Brecons

Enjoyed a great meal in our local pub. We are so lucky to have Salvo and Gwyneth here and providing excellent food with an interesting and creative twist. I had the Sicilian chicken again, this time served on a bed of creamy risotto. Bellissimo! The fish and chips was yet again outstanding - second to none. Our neighbours both had steak - tender and delicious. All washed down with perfectly drawn real ale. Highly recommended, make the effort, you won't be disappointed.

We ate here on our last night in Wales before driving off to Heathrow. What a fantastic end to our trip, the place is an absolute delight. Tucked away at the end of a windy road, you will find this quaint place, and inside you will find not only a wonderful bar, but the best meal we had on the trip. The service was impeccable, and the food divine. It is a place we look forward to visiting again, hopefully in the not too distant future.

My partner & myself called in today for Sunday lunch after reading such good reviews on trip adviser about it. The building itself has loads of character, it's very cosy & clean with a log burner in the bar area. The food was exceptional, homemade and plenty of it. The couple running it were extremely welcoming & prompt with their service. We will defiantly be coming back here again. Booking is advisable as it can be busy to get a table and I can see why, it's fantastic, book here with complete confidence.Kind Regards,Carl & Amber~Rose

Lovely, small, friendly, welcoming pub and restaurant. There is nothing pretentious or showy about this place. I would describe it as the best home cooking you can imagine (and a bit more). Everything is cooked from scratch and is lovely and fresh. It is a bit of a wait once you’ve ordered but this is no secret and it is well worth the wait. Remember to book in advance. It's not a place you're likely to be passing unless you are from the area so make an effort to go, you won't be disappointed. So many pubs and restaurants boast home cooking and miss the mark. This place doesn’t boast. It doesn’t need to. It is REAL home cooking. The menu is delicious and reasonably priced and the welcome is very friendly and warm. I cannot recommend enough.

Spotted on Trip Advisor and had to visit. You must book in advance. Lovely drive to the pub and a warm welcome from the hosts. Great food, the steak and ale pie got great reviews and my mums gluten and dairy free needs were easily met. Will be visiting again for sure.

I can't describe how much you need to visit this pub if you're nearby (within an hour drive). The food was absolutely top quality, and the ambience and welcoming hosts were above and beyond what you dream off.

Entered The Arms to the warmth of a log fire and our host which reminded me of visiting my country grandparents and their glorious welcome. Within minutes we were feeling part of the local community of which this hostelry is the centre. As for food we has a varied menu and between us three we enjoyed different courses. All delicious and more than adequate even for the most hungry. The whole evening was a delight and as so often when on holiday one says we hope to return. But for us we are delighted to be booked in local accommodation and able to say we will be back in the spring.

We stopped here for a few drinks and sat in the pub which was lovely. Plenty of seats and warm cosy rooms. Also had a lovely fuss of Bailey the local dog :) The landlord was very friendly and very kind to give me a birthday drink :) also he gave us some beer and cider recommendations. Reasonable prices and a spotlessly clean pub and toilets. Especially the day after New Year’s Day!! Lots of bar snacks and the landlord told us they have a pizza oven which sounds lovely so shall we come back to have one. Very good atmosphere!!!! We are staying at a local lodge and have came in here a few times. Recommend if you're in the area.

Stumbled on the New Inn for lunch. This little pub turned out to be a bit of a gem - great, home cooked food and friendly staff. A good local crowd too to add some atmosphere!
