Stayed at Mabie House recently and enjoyed dinner and breakfast there. Excellent food, well cooked, well presented and reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again
We ate twice at Scarista House Restaurant during our recent trip to Harris. We have dined here before on previous visits over the last 20 years and this year it was better than ever. Beautifully prepared local food. First menu - Twice baked cheese soufflé, followed by Stornoway landed hake in a delicious sauce and some delicious vegetables. and then a chocolate roulade!. Second menu - goats cheese, courgette and cheese raviol with a nettle pesto (amazing!) followed by local hand dived scallops and the most delicious lemon tart with excellent pastry, lemon verbena ice cream and a strawberry and pink peppercorn coulis. Fabulous! Highly recommend the cooking here! An absolute delight!
The Dean is a great place to go for food and beverages before or after a tour of the National Mining Museum in Newtongrange. We had their special house pasta and pizza. Both were very tasty and service was quick and friendly. This is a local place, so prices were very reasonable.
We found this Cafe using Trip Advisor on our way to Girvan. Just 5 minute detour from the main road, was worth it. No parking by the premises, so parked just around the corner. 2 minutes walk. Cafe was welcoming, light and lively. Coffee for myself and Wife, and my daughter had smashing mango smoothie. Our waitress was nice and friendly. Recommended for a quick stop from Coffee or a snack.
We arrived after walking from Craigellachie. Our walking instructions had said that the owners would pick us up at Ballindalloch Station, but when we phoned we were told that this was no longer the case, and we had to walk another 1.5 miles in the pouring rain. After a struggle to work out what direction the hotel was in, we contacted the owner again who didn't seem to know where we were. We eventually worked it out with google Maps. However the hotel was pleasant and the showers were particularly good. There is a set menu at £30 per head, offering only one choice for each course. We would have preferred to maybe have a choice of 2 menus. The rooms were good and the staff were lovely. We found the drinks to be expensive. Breakfast was nice and the lady who serves breakfast was lovely.
It was awful. The steaks, one half raw and the other was burnt, all 3 steaks were the same. The chips and onion rings were burnt. We were so disappointed and when we sent them all back all the manager said was "well they looked fine to me!" and offered us a magnanimous 10%off. £100 not to eat!!! Never be back, wouldn't even take them home for the dog 😡
Restaurant du Rokeby manor, joli cadre façon saloon,
Bonne cuisine indienne et écossaise, bien servi produits frais
Excellent kullen skink

El mejor restaurante italiano de Edimburgo. ¡La comida está fuera de este mundo, fantástica selección de vinos! Ambiente estupendo y el personal no puede hacer lo suficiente por usted!
Found this place after to moving to Dingwall and it's become our favourite place for breakfast. Always cooked really well and the staff are friendly. Big plus seeing all the lovely dogs that come in!

Mixed experience at The Moorings , initially quite pleased with my room until realised I was right next door to a 19 team little girls gymnast team. And had also walked into a huge wedding party on my arrival . Little sleep that night and the next. My window to open or close I had to stand on a chair it was so high up and very small no outlook. Very dark little natural light . Furniture looked right out of recycling . No hand rail in bath/shower . And a 150 degree turn from toilet seat to toilet roll holder. Nice staff . Food portions very small as in half a scoop of ice cream , roast dinner was a chunk of steak, one thick slice but rather tasteless , nicely served and hot but way too much mash. Vegetables raw. Sweet was a tasty one but I’d asked for ice cream and custard and got an incredulous look. Really? Burger arrived with no cheese and onions (not ordered) after waitress checked 4 times. Disappointing quality on two meals the next evening , refried chips, and steak in mix grill not freshly cooked , small portions . Mixed grill single sausage , no egg …sounds petty but not when £20.95 and £18.90 respectively and was suppose to be a special treat . The one breakfast I had was lacking mixed fruit all gone substituted with berry mix. Not hat I expected for fruit breakfast. That was the only breakfast , Then charged for full continental breakfast for four mornings when I only had one. My one slice of toads, two spoons of berries was £10. Overcharging. Lucky I checked my receipt and spotted £39.80 for 4 . Did get a refund for 4 . .Asked for a cup of tea last morning and told to find a staff member , waited but staff member doing other things . Meals on menu not available earlier in the stay even though I could tell they were catering frozen classics. Orders given for burger was checked 4 time and still came wrong. Hospitality lacking and resident service poor . On the plus side location close to other eateries which I used. Bed comfortable, kettle with small choice of tea bags. No bottled water . Only water available pedestal hand basin tap . Dining area lovely spacious and bright and you are shown to a table. Overall got the feeling food was prepared and left sitting or in fridge and recooked, presented well but alternative request ms left staff confused . Maybe I came at a bad time. Cannot recommend sadly.
Since we have been blessed with good weather recently, my partner and I decided to venture across to Newport to get ourselves a fish and battered sausage supper and sit at the beach. Both tasted good, however we have both been feeling extremely sick for hours, as if a load of grease is lying on our stomach. Such a shame as we have heard a lot of good reviews about this place.
I got mcallums crunch and mango sorbet. The mcallums was nice nothing special but the mango sorbet was horrible. Tasted like soap. More creamy than most sorbets. Disappointed
