Emily's Byre in Highland

Fantastic! Awesome location and venue with a really relaxed feel to it. The food was very good and just the right amount, and the staff is lovely. Can highly recommend.

Tasty but very expensive. Wonderful friendly service and cosy atmosphere but seriously overpriced. Portion sizes are small and the meal cost twice what it should. Wine is overpriced too. An interesting experience but we won’t return.

We really would have given 4 or 5 stars for the food and service if it wasn’t for the extortionate prices. £4.50 for a can of Sprite?! £14 for a prawn cocktail as examples. They shouldn’t get away with this. If you don’t mind throwing money away or feeling robbed then go for it. If not then I’d highly recommend going to Fort William to The Geographer or anywhere else as when we compared prices it is very obvious the charges are ridiculous here. It is a shame as the food was good but just not worth the money.

Excellent hospitality. We were two weary travelers who hadn’t eaten much all day. We were looking to eat a very late lunch and we weren’t having much luck finding something open in the off hours between lunch and dinner. We stopped by and even though I don’t think they were open for lunch they asked the chef if he would cook for us, he said yes (he was probably on break). The service was excellent as well as the food we had. While we did not stay at the hotel, we would highly recommend this restaurant for their food and service.

Ate here with a group of friends whilst staying in the nearby hostel. There isn't much choice for eating out in Invergarry. All options are expensive and this is no exception. The food was very nice but I felt overpriced with few main courses less than £20, Beer at £7 . Put it this way, if the prices had been a bit lower, then we'd have probably had desserts or starters and more of us would have had a drink instead of several opting for water and us all going back to the hostel for dessert and a beer; in which case we would have spent more overall.

Na onze tour over Skye gingen we terug richting Fort William, kwamen we hier langs en hebben hier echt fantastisch gegeten, Vriendelijke bediening . Heerlijke Indiaans eten, we kozen verschillende dingen wat we met zijn drieën deelden. Zo konden we van alles wat proeven.

Initially we were not sure that we had found the right place as it was tacked onto a small hotel. Also The name Emily for an Indian Restaurant is to say the least unusual. However the service and the food was excellent. The menu is as quirky as the restaurants name and contained a number of non Indian dishes as well as the Indian dishes some of which we had not come across before. We orderedIndian dishes which were new to us and the Chicken Frankie was just wonderful. We ordered the main course from the specials course and cannot remember the name of it but it was a chicken dish cooked in a creamy spicy pepper sauce. The portion size of the main course did seem small but not a bad thing as Indian restaurants often serve too much. This left room for a desert which was also excellent. It was perhaps a little on the pricy side for an Indian restaurant but quality does come at a price and was not extortionate by any means. Well worth seeking out.

Lunched here when our intended venue nearby was unexpectedly closed. The restaurant is a pleasant enough environment and externally the building looks very neat and attractive with plenty of parking. At first sight the menu is extensive and the selection of starters was good. However, the choice for vegetarian mains was limited, especially if you don’t want curry. It wasn’t made clear, either on the menu or by our waiter that the curry mains were served without rice or naan unless these were ordered separately as side dishes. This made the price all the more shocking. The deserts were delicious but adding a ‘discretionary’ 10% to the bill was another low. We thought this was very poor value for money.

We visited Emily’s Byre with friends as a party of four when staying in the area. We booked a table which proved a sound move as the restaurant was busy when we arrived. There is a large car park with ample parking which is a necessity as the restaurant is located a mile or so outside Invergarry village. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a table in the rear of the restaurant once our booking was located. The restaurant was nicely decorated although the wood paneling does make it rather dark. When booking I would request a table at the front of the restaurant as there is more natural light from the windows. Once seated we were given menus and left to chat and discuss the various options. A drinks order was taken but when we visited there were no draft lager options on offer due to supply issues, though bottled was on offer along with an extensive wine list. Drinks were served fairly promptly and our order taken. For starters we ordered the Dahi Chaat and Samosas and Poppadums. The Poppadums are a portion of several quarters with dips and not individual items and one per person is more than adequate. For mains we ordered a selection to suit individual tastes and I opted for the lamb Rogan Gosht as my staple chicken madras was not available together with steamed rice and naan bread. Our server advised that all curries are cooked mild but can be spiced to individual taste. I asked for the lamb to be spiced as a madras Starters were served quickly and the Dahi Chat was excellent as were the samosas and poppadums. Mains were served after a reasonable time were attractively presented. Portion size was moderate, but adequate for an evening meal. My lamb was very tender but was under spiced for a madras curry. There was a reasonable balance between the quantities of meat and sauce. Rice was soft and fluffy and the grains separated easily. Nan was on the small side but again cooked as it should be. Throughout our meal service was attentive and all the staff were willing to take time and chat while not being in any way obtrusive. This is not a cheap restaurant to eat in with our meal being close to £50 per head when drinks and the 10% service are included. It is clearly pitched at the holiday trade and it would be interesting to see what patronage is like out of season as I doubt it will be a must go to venue for local residents. Would we visit again? Probably not as while the restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff are friendly the curry was disappointing and did not offer value for money. We will reserve our Indian experiences for restaurants in Glasgow.

We had two meals here and probably would have had a third if we were staying another night in the Highlands. The food was fabulous and the staff warm and friendly. We loved the Indian dishes, including the Butter Chicken, the Dal Makhani, and the chicken Tikka Masala. But for those who want something else, the Teriyaki Salmon and Vegetable Curry were both awesome. We were staying 15 minutes away, but this is far and away the best restaurant in the area.

We were excited to find an Indian restaurant in Invergarry. Our starters were lovely and the service very good. Unfortunately our mains were very disappointing. The plates were cold, the naan bread greasy, the lamb rogan gosht was more fat than meat and the butter chicken was too spicy hot. We did not order desert but got the bill and the shock of the price for the mediocre meal and also a 10% service charge added We asked for this to be removed. I would not recommend thus restaurant for indian food, it is too pricey and poor quality. We will not be back.
