Mangrove in Highland

I visited for the first time for a birthday in November. From the moment we sat down, we were rushed and the staff were rude. The waiter came over 4 times in our first 5 minutes to ask if we were ready to order. We ordered the platter for 2 and requested to upgrade the naans to garlic rather than plain and were told no. We were more than happy to pay extra for this which we emphasised but they said the chefs do not like when people request changes so it's either plain naan or no naan. We removed the naan from the platter and ordered them separately in order to have the food we wanted. As soon as we finished our meal, the dessert menu was thrown in front of us, we were immediately asked if we were going to order anything from it and then the bill was put down. We paid the bill and started putting our coats on and the owner asked us if we were going to order anything else AGAIN, even though it was clear we had paid and were leaving. A large booking came in halfway through and the people seemed to be friends of the owner so I got the impression nobody else was important to them that night. The food was fine, but due to the terrible treatment of their customers and their inability to accommodate simple requests (especially for a special occasion which was exceedingly disappointing), I will not be returning and would certainly not recommend.

Pathetic, worst indian food i ever had in the United Kingdom. Would never ever come back. Service was the only good thing in the restaurant for me.

The Mangrove restaurant was very spacious and well laid out,food was very authentic and tasty. I thought the pricing was fair,the service was attentive, but I felt a bit rushed between courses, and after I finished my meal, I felt rushed to pay my bill.

Food is great. Service and people are even better. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Inverness.

Had a dinner at this place and I must say that the place is oberprices according to the portion size. The food was good, but was not contented with the portion size as it is not upto the mark with the price.

Visited late November on a Friday night. Amazing atmosphere, I've never been in an Indian restaurant with such a bouncing and boisterous atmosphere, but it really suited the mood. We had pre-booked and were seated within seconds of arriving. The service was truly excellent, super attentive staff and the owner even came and spoke to us a couple of times. The absolute highlight was the food though – without doubt the best Indian food I have had in the UK. We went for a selection of items: Popadoms and dips to begin with, then king prawn chilli garlic, the Mangrove Thali and the Tandoori Mixed Platter. We also got some extra rice, a peshwari nan and some chips. For the 3 of us this was almost too much food, but it was so delicious we scoffed the lot. We took our own alcohol and paid a very affordable £2 per person corkage. Overall the meal worked out at less than £30 per head and I consider that great value for the quality and taste of the food etc. We will definitely return.

Terrible experience, had guests over for a meal... original time 630pm , time then delayed til 700pm,... driver was shown to be waiting, but food didnt arrive until 810pm.. won't be using restaurant again

Samen met vrienden een weekje Schotland. Daar hoort een bezoekje aan een indiaans restaurant bij. Heerlijk gegeten. Het gezelschap was goed, de bediening vriendelijk en het eten van goede kwaliteit. Een gezellige drukte in het restaurant maakte de ambiance af. BYOB was even wennen voor ons. Nog niet eerder meegemaakt. Maar prima bevallen. Bij het reserveren werd dit al aangegeven, dus hadden een lekkere witte wijn bij ons. Absoluut 4 sterren waard.

Stopped off for food after someone had mentioned it was a good place for a meal - it wasn’t good it was AMAZING , food was perfect and staff were very attentive - even spoke to the owner who was such a nice guy

Took a takeaway. The pulao rice and paneer curry was absolutely tasteless. Felt like all the items were prepared without any salt and spices. No flavour whatsoever. It was huge disappointment. I don’t think they do justice to Indian cuisines.

Great service and delicious food. I especially appreciated the variety of vegetarian options, including the veg thali, which can be ordered solo or as a shareable dish for two people. The restaurant is BYOB for anyone who wants a drink with dinner, but there is coffee, tea and various mixed non-alc drinks. Would come again!

Spicy prawns on white rice. Just what I needed!

Sorry, but I had to mark it down because of the dreadfully loud singing that started up as we were eating. We couldn't hear ourselves think and it ruined any chance of conversation. Maybe it wouldn't have been quite so bad if she'd been able to sing in tune, I don't know, but is this kind of thing really needed in an Indian restaurant? The food was okay, but nothing special if I'm completely honest. The portions were far too small and not worth the price. The fried rice arrived in a tiny bowl that, if it was me, I would have been embarrassed to serve to anyone. The staff were very nice and welcoming, and very attentive - a huge plus - but that girl singer (and I use the word lightly - she was awful and off key) just has to go. She cannot be good for business, surely. Our dinner experience was ruined, unfortunately.

Visited Inverness from Newcastle. Walked into Mangrove after a long day and without the usual research. Was incredibly surprised by the quality of food and atmosphere at Mangrove. The owner himself went out his way to make sure each customer was happy. Very impressed.

Without a doubt, the food here is excellent and has an authentic Indian taste. The chicken tikka, naans, and daal makhni are must-tries. I was very impressed with the staff, who recommended dishes based on our preferences. Special thanks to Nisha for her wonderful suggestions. Highly recommend!

As a first time visitor to Inverness. I came upon the Mangrove because it looked welcoming and inviting. The staff were so very welcoming and the food was simply delicious! So much so that after 8 days on the Isle of Skye and Glencoe and my night before heading home to the south coast of England. Where did I want to eat? Here. I was shocked that the owner and staff remembered me. Such great Customer Service alongside great food! Highly recommended.

The food and ambience are really great with a bunch of lovely host and kind supervisor . It's a happening vibe place where the host were welcoming where other restaurants required reservations, but they were most welcoming to accommodate new guests, though they were on a busy night. Gave a classical feel and touch to the restaurant and certainly my best place of choice for the restaurant in Inverness. The food we ordered also was very good , tatsed well and they customised as per our choice

WOW!!! Got the Mangrove for 2 and it did not disappoint. Every dish was amazing.

We were glad to find an Indian restaurant that looked promising however our experience was disappointing. We were waiting for over 40 minutes for our food to arrive and when it did, it did not look appetising. The “biryani” tasted more like fried rice with a raw onion taste. It was bland and unauthentic. If you’re looking for authentic flavours, might be better to avoid this place!

Wow, what a find in the middle of Inverness! If you’re looking for good Indian food and wonderfully warm, hospitable service, look no further. Had a wonderful dinner here during our weekend visit to Inverness and the Highlands. Everyone was so nice and attentive, despite it being a busy Friday night! We were seated right away with no reservation. Everyone we had the pleasure of interacting with was generous with their warmth and smiles, we even spoke with the owner, who was very present throughout the restaurant all evening! Highly highly recommend! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

We had a lovely meal at Mangrove, one of the best curry’s I’ve had! Onion baji’s for starters were delicious, and both our mains were fantastic. Highly recommend.

Chicken Tikka Masala was okay but didn't really taste authentic. It was missing some spices. Was more like a simple tomato sauce. Chicken Korma was really bad. Haven't eaten anything that bad in a long time. The sauce was just sweet and grainy coconut milk without any spices. The meat was also lacking spices. So it was just coconut pudding with plain chicken. The naan Bread was also not good. Didn't taste like naan at all. Service was also mixed. The female servers were mostly friendly, but the male server (maybe the owner?) was just unfriendly and left us with the feeling of not being welcome at all. We observed that he was friendly to people who seemed to be locals but very unfriendly to tourists like us. I can't recommend this place.

Food OK/not great, service good but very slow as they were busy. Restaurant very cold, I noticed other diners in coats. Staff not allowed to put a tip on my credit card .. no cash, so no tip...management really should allow tips on cards.

I waited over 1hr and 15 minutes for my order. I contacted the restaurant after waiting an hour and they told me that the order had been ready for delivery for 30 minutes but no driver had turned up yet. By the time my order was delivered the food was cold.

Last minute dinner in Inverness. Wish we hadn’t spent it here. They lost our order and the food just didn’t taste like my beloved curry. Also, very small portion sizes. Not a lot of choice in Inverness but there has to be better than this.

The food was delicious, and the hospitality was exceptional. Highly recommended for both the food and the genuine, friendly service!

It was Saturday night & full of crowds. Waiting time was about 45mins to get a seat. Anyways atmosphere was really nice with amazing service. Ordered Vegetable Bhaji and it was so so. Chapati as it was mentioned by staff machine made though tried and not good. Naan also ok. Recommend dishes : Garlic Naan

Starters garlic mushrooms far too salty/onion bhaji rock hard. Main course chicken Tikka masala full of red food dye/fish curry very oily. We spoke to the manager who was very unhelpful and we were asked to leave for complaining

This is the second time I have ordered a delivery meal from Mangrove. Both meals were excellent and this will be my "go to" Indian restaurant for delivery meals from now on.

Amazing experience..where everything from start to end is satisfying.. and food is yummy... You might have to be patient if you come without reservation.. but you would be treated nicely and staff would set your expectation right away...

The manager of the restaurant did not show any hospitality towards us despite being aware that we had just arrived in Inverness and therefore had no choice about timing of our arrival the restaurant. We were only 5 minutes later than their closing time but they were only prepared to give us a takeaway which we would have to eat in our hotel room. The manager was very rude and so we left and found another a very nice and hospitable restaurant. I don’t think we would go back to Mangrove again during stay here in Inverness

Stopped here for dinner with family , the restaurant was brimming with people enjoying their food. They have a vast menu to offer but we settled for main course which included tarka daal, aloo dum and veg jhal farezi with breads and veg pulao. Food tasted fresh and satisfied my craving for somethinf indian! We were greeted very well and the hospitality was commendable! Do Try Mangeove out if you're in Inverness! Good food good vibe

Certainly one of the best tasting curries I’ve had in a long time - this restaurant has a great feel about it and the food was impeccable. Value for money was excellent for a centre-of-town curry house. There were issues along the way with wait times etc but the staff were amazing and kept us updated, and sorted it all out at the bill too. Cannot fault the experience, definitely would recommend a visit.

Food was absolutely disgusting. Everything went in the bin. Chicken was either under cooked or like chewing a piece of rubber. Definitely won’t be wasting my money here again!

Amazing food, very clean, staff are very polite. They didnt have a certain curry that i wanted on the menu but they went out of their way to cook it for me. Will defiantly be coming here again when i visit the area again.

Absolutely excellent. Generous portions, LOVED the mocktails (especially the virgin colada), 10/10 there. The Mangrove sharing platter is bordering on enough for 3 adults...or two on a mission in our case. 😀 Delicious chicken Tikka, the best I've ever had. Tasty naan, succulent king prawn dishes.
