Spice Tandoori in Highland

Dropped in for an early dinner and we were blown away by the incredible flavours of even simple things like freshly prepared dips for the poppadoms and marinated onions to go wild. Our main courses, Pallak and Balti chicken were perfect. With all of this came an extremely friendly service. We really wish we could come here more often.

Had a nice Indian meal here, staff were very pleasant, if visiting Thurso it’s worth calling in if you like a curry, I would certainly call again

Amazing dining experience! So many options to choose from, especially with a separate vegetarian curry and sweet curry ❤ Service was really quick, the food was perfect and delicious! Such a wonderful way to share small plates of delicious meals! Staff were lovely and friendly, eventually thanks for him ( chef) who made this kinds of curry.

Absolutely recommend this place! Perhaps the best Indian Restaurant I have been to. You find the regular Dishes, but also some rather special (if not unique) ones. Will definitely come back here again! And a big plus: lovely staff, great to talk to! :)

Very good food but I suggest you organize yourself better, the wait is definitely too long. There were 2 of us, we waited about 15 minutes to sit down and it was full, but they hadn't told us that for the main course we would have to wait almost 1 hour and a half, of course they brought us the starter first but waiting that long to have dinner is definitely too much and, above all, they didn't even bother to warn us or tell us anything, customer service should improve. When they served us we were nervous so we didn't appreciate the food adequately, we had to eat quickly because we were now late for check in at the B&B where we were supposed to stay. During our trip to Scotland we have always met very kind and courteous restaurateurs, here we felt like we were just a number... the one at the table. Sin.

Best curry I've had in a long long time and first class service the only negative was the entrance could do with a tidy up I almost didn't go in.

Apsolutely disgusting waiter and boss. Came in with my assistant dog to accompany me due to having disabilitys. The law states under the equality act 2010 it is illegal to refuse an assistant dog accompanied by their handler. We walked in and got told to leave or get a takeaway and even after stating that it is illegal to refuse her they still insisted we leave. Glad to have taken business somewhere else

When choosing from the 2 Indian restaurants, we opted for Spice Tandoori. The popadums are wonderfully fresh and have even been reordered. It was busy around 7 o'clock, all tables were full and that's why it took quite a while before we got our food. People who came in at 8 o'clock could eat relatively quickly after ordering. The food was of very good quality. The Tandoori butter chicken and also the Biryani were delicious with enough chicken. The food could have been a bit spicier and we were not asked in advance how spicy we wanted the food. It was also very busy at the takeaway counter, which says something about the quality of the food. Highly recommended, but indicate how spicy you want the food.

I came here after a long day and it was not the best restaurant around here is why: we had to wait almost an hour for our food, my rice and my father's entire dish came out luke-warm and after all that our card declined. First we thought it was because of that we are tourists but later we realised everyone had that problem. Over all the food was fine but still not recommended.

We thought the food was exceptional. The pickle tray was better than most as the three dishes were in larger than normal pots and very tasty. The Rogan Josh was very good as was the Pilau rice. My husband had chicken tikka and a vegetable dish with a curry sauce and he loved them all. Unfortunately we ordered a Nan bread but never received it. The staff were very nice and welcoming. We had to wait a while between servings and found the price a little on the high side, however we would definitely recommend this restaurant and would go again.

Do not get irritated front of the house or the entrance. Go to the first floor an you will find a nice decorated room. The service was great and the food also! Colourful and delicious!

Great Indian restaurant, lovely food and polite friendly service .

We spent 2 days in Thurso and one evening at Pride of Bengal and one evening here at Spice Tandoori. The food at Spice Tandoori is worlds better. You could taste the spices and ingredients and it was well seasoned. Really extremely good Indian food. Unfortunately, all the dishes in the Pride of Bengal were very lacking in taste. That's why we definitely recommend Spice Tandoori if you want to eat good Indian food.

A great Indian/Bengali restaurant. A pleasant environment, with attentive, not pushy and very friendly staff - and GREAT tasting food. I like it extra hot - I mean Indian hot - and this is one of the very few restaurants that I’ve visited, all around the world, that actually listened when I asked for EXTRA hot and made my North Bengali dish (with lamb) nice and spicy! The Tiger Khan, my lighter dish (chicken) was also excellent, with the cashew nuts and real mango taste. The chicken was tandoori cooked chicken and lovely and soft, as was the melt in the mouth lamb with a plethora of lovely green finger chillies. Dish sizes are also very generous (I had to ask for a doggy bag - no way I was leaving it behind). They also do a slight twist on their garlic naan, which was presented well and very tasty. If you’re in Thurso, you will not be disappointed getting your curry fix here.

We went there twice during our stay in Thurso and received very friendly service both times. The food is fantastic. It's been a long time since I've had such good Indian food.

My new favourite restaurant. I had the west bengal local curry and a garlic naan. So tasty! And I asked for it mild, as I'm not keen on a lot of chili. It was beautifully spiced, just not with chilli, what a perfect experience. 3 adults, mains, naan and rice and 2 drinks each came to £94. Clean and comfortable restaurant and a nice atmosphere, with a few other tables dining at 6pm on a Saturday eve. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs, but mother in law managed them.

We were holidaying in the area and went there on the recommendation of a local friend on a Thursday night, sitting in. The menu variation was fantastic, and the food quality was excellent. So good that we returned on the Saturday night and had another excellent meal, sampling different dishes. Everything was freshly cooked too!

Very good cuisine with Bangladeshi touch

We stopped in on our way back down to Inverness from Dunnet’s Head. The food was phenomenal with very large portions. The staff were incredibly friendly! I would highly recommend.

Staying just a night in Thurso and fancied a curry. Waitress very friendly Food very good. Side dishes can be upgraded to mains, we did this with the Sag and the Tarka Dhal, very good portion sizes. Chicken Choley was lovely Naan breads are large and one between the 2 of us would have been enough Anyone with mobility issues should avoid. Restaurant is on 1st floor and is accessible by a set of very steep semi spiral stairs, helpfully toilets are on ground floor, so even if you managed the climb you’ll need to do it all again if you need the facilities Can’t speak for atmosphere as it was a very cold and wet night with only four diners. Take away was fairly busy.

It was the only one open in the entire area in early January. The restaurant was cold. But the service was nice and the food was very tasty!!

We visited on a dark stormy night to be welcomed by friendly staff and delicious food. Nothing was too much trouble, even serving special coffees to round off our meal. Thank-you we will be back.

This was bad! I paid online, then came to collect as despite saying it is on the website, delivery wasn't an option at checkout. The place was pretty gross and dirty when I walked, in which was the first red flag. The guy at the bar/reception area thing was super miserable, basically asked me what I wanted then went off to get my order. When I did get the food back home my starter was missing and the food I ordered was full of peas and sweetcorn which I can't eat (it didn't say it had either of these things in it on the menu). This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but if I had had a severe allergy it could have been dangerous. So I just didn't eat any of it. Which is lucky, because my wife did and she was then up all night and the next morning with diarrhea. Really wish I hadn't gone here, but so glad they messed up my order so I couldn't eat it. I just wish they'd messed my wife's order up too! Probably the worst takeaway experience I've ever had.

Wide choice of dishes. Depending on the type of cooking or the region, we compose the plate by choosing the sauce, the meat or fish, the rice, the accompaniments. Copious dishes, very good and served with a smile. I recommend ! NB: the restaurant is on the 1st floor without elevator.

Great Indian food! I tried the house special chicken tikka starter which was great and then the Mirchi Kurma (asked for extra hot) curry which was brilliant. Sides and drinks were good too and prompt service. Close to a 5/5 but the premises let’s it down as it looks and smells old and damp

A decent spot for indian. We found most of the curries to be on the sweet side, even though the descriptions did not say that (many did). The naan, rice and appetizers were all good.

This is the second time I have bought a takeaway from this restaurant in 3 years. 3 years ago I swore blind that I would never go back as the curry I had 3 years ago was bland and the chicken tough and stringy. Decided to give them one more go this evening (three years later) and went for a vindaloo with Pilau rice. The Pilau rice was half decent but the vindaloo bordered on "inedible" the chicken was stringy and chewy and the sauce was pretty much more akin to a Rogan Josh. The menu described the vindaloo as "very hot" but, in reality, it was mild "at best"....... very disappointed..... my main concern was the chicken, what on earth are they doing with it to make it so tough and stringy? I can appreciate that "possibly" the majority of reviews on here are from people who have "dined in" and were "possibly" under the influence of alcohol (which would explain the positive reviews) I would literally eat deep fried road kill after a night on the town and think it was the best culinary experience of my life but, trust me folks, get a takeaway at 5pm in the evening (perfectly sober) and I guarantee you that you will throw most of your "spice tandoori" curry into the bin. It's edible when you're pished and you wake up the next day thinking "best curry ever" try doing it sober, I can assure you that it's a different experience;) great place for drunk people to eat substandard food but don't expect anything special if you are sober. These people are serving up crap to drunk people.

No one will go even if I write this post. Do you think so? ? ? The location is Salsoul, the northernmost station in England. It's about a 5 minute walk from there. My sons graduated from middle school and high school here. Visiting the graves of my ex-wife's parents I went there a while ago. I went to this store for the first time, but in front of the store When I arrived, I told my husband that it was dirty so I decided to leave. When I went there, I was told that I had made a reservation and that I should go. When I entered, I noticed that there were so many customers. thought. I thought the taste was really delicious. The curry in particular is exquisite.

Das Spice Tandoori war eine Notlösung, weil in allen anderen Restaurants kein Tisch mehr für zwei Personen verfügbar war. Im Spice Tandoori war es unproblematisch einen Tisch zu bekommen. Die Bedienung ist bemüht und freundlich, doch hoffnungslos überfordert, weil einfach zu wenig (geeignetes) Personal vorhanden war. Das Essen hat dann auch lange gedauert, bis es auf den Tisch gekommen ist (spricht aber für die frische Zubereitung). Das Essen selbst war jetzt nicht aufsehenerregend. Bei mir waren lediglich drei kleine Stückchen Hühnchen in der Schale, ansonsten nur Soße. Richtig satt bin ich davon nicht geworden. Als Notlösung war das Restaurant in Ordnung, aber als erste Wahl würde ich es defintiv nicht bezeichnen wollen.

We had a takeaway from here tonight and it was just unreal. Loads of food, including extras on the house. The food was full of flavour and big portions, not bulked out by vegetables but full of meat and paneer in the veggie dish. The best Indian food (balti) we have had in ages and we are from the Midlands.

Similar to the last review, no idea why this place has such a high score. Food was medium to be honest when it arrived, but everything leading up to that was extremely poor, and would not recommend.

My name is matthew and I have to say there is no words to describe the quality of the food and service. Firstly we had soup and prawn cocktail the soup was perfectly heated and unbelievably delicious the prawn cocktail was extramly well presented and the taste was fresh and delicious. For main we had chicken korma and tieka masala no please if you can go and try it and please try there mince nan it's the most delicious food ever. Epic service and service really good prices also. Coming from PERU, I definitely know about excellent food and this restaurant has great good.....!! My husband and I have visited more than 50 Indian restaurants and this is the best of all of them...!!!! And today celebrating our honeymoon we had the best dinner...!!TH

On our route through SCOTLAND we tried this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Exquisite attention and delicious food. One of the best Indians we tried.

I cannot understand the many star reviews for this place, it is really terrible. First off the food is very poor. It is theoretical standard meat of choice + generic sauce from their supplier, microwaved up for a few minutes. Even the pickles with the poppadoms lacked taste and freshness. Nothing I saw served to us was cooked by a human, all was bought in pre prepared rubbish. So no stars for food. Service was by a young lady probably on her first ever shift, fine. But it was so rapid. 'Are you finished?' the moment after someone put their fork down. This is what she had been trained to do, and it sucks. The restaurant is upstairs and the toilets are downstairs, neither are terribly well looked after or nice. Thurso is a small town but surely someone can do better than this. I'll stick to fish and chips next time I'm in thurso, or ride on and find somewhere better.

Who would have thought that I would eat the best curry of my life in Scotland. This restaurant is an absolute recommendation, my husband also really enjoyed it. Among other things, there are also an incredible number of different rice variations. Don't be put off by the exterior, just go up to the first floor and you'll find an amazingly large and beautiful guest room.

Don't let the entrance stop you. It goes straight up the stairs and then it gets surprisingly beautiful. The food is super tasty and the menu offers plenty of choice. Service very friendly and helpful. I can only recommend.

A little late review, but I made a point that I will write a review when I got a chance. Nothing stood out in our experience. The main person at the entrance had a very condescending tone. Not sure the guy only wanted to deal with locals or what. He was in a rush to get our order and make us sit aside when there was nobody behind us. The food was no where close to authentic or even good. Not sure why you need to put edible colors when Indian cuisine is already so colorful. Do not recommend this place at all.

We are regular customers of this restaurant both sit in and takeout. Tonight, after picking up my takeout and driving home( I live a few miles out of town) we discovered that my husbands Balti was missing and he had been given a Pallak, I called to tell them and was told that was what I ordered, very blunt, no apology, no offer of a replacement or recompense. I hadn’t even heard of a Pallak and my husband hates spinach, no ordering mistake was made by me. My husband ended up with no curry as he couldn’t eat it. Very disappointed with the complete lack of customer service. In this regard this restaurant has clearly gone down hill.

We were in Thurso only for one night on Sunday evening when most of restaurants are closed. Found this Indian restaurant open till late (10 pm). It was a good surprise. Lovely staff that took the time to explain us the menu and suggested what to order. Good food, welcoming people and good prices. More than recommended!

Great service and really good food! We had popadoms and pickle which arrived promptly together with 2 cold beers. Then an onion bhajee to share. For our main course we had a chicken dhansak and a chicken chasni - both very tasty. Less than 50 GBP fot the two of us which I don’t think was too bad. We’ll come again!

Had a great meal here. Friendly staff, good menu. Little choice in beer and wine, but that is common in an Indian restaurant. Hard to see from the street that this restaurant is open. Tip: at least hang a menu behind the window.

This is a favourite restaurant of ours that we also use for takeaways. Each and every time we are treated courteously, welcomed like old friends and given the best service. The food is top notch and always presented promptly but once you have it no rush to leave. The staff are so friendly but not intrusive. My son who has eaten in many cities rates this as the best in Scotland.

It's one of the best Indian restaurant, not just for the area but in general. Ingredients are always high quality, with tender meat and tasty vegetables. They know how to cook, very capable chef. We go here often with absolutely no intention to stop!

Really rate this place, I had the King Prawn Makkani which was cooked to perfection, as was the wifes Chicken Korma. The staff were so nice & couldn't do enough for us, if we're ever up in Thurso again, will absoloutly re-visit.

Google sent me here by chance, up the stairs to a pleasant seating area. The food is spot on, and can highly recommend the lamb( leave your knife to the side it’s not needed). Staff are welcoming and accommodating and the menu is well priced....
