I was cycling from Tomintoul to Bridge of Cally when I got caught in a biblical downpour and then the temperature seemed to suddenly drop about 10 degrees. This was in June! I couldn’t feel my hands and despaired of ever making it. Then I saw The Lair as it is now called. I stopped and the lovely ladies made me hot chocolate, gave me cake and dried my gloves on their Aga. A lovely, warm and welcoming place that saved me in a dark moment. Highly recommended.

Very dog friendly. Staff super attentive. Lovely food and nice atmosphere in the cafe. Prices reasonable. We loved that out dog was made to feel super welcome. Thanks!

Went for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. Service was very good and friendly and afternoon tea was fairly standard stuff. Good selection and tasty. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and only when we got our bill did we realise that we had been given the most expensive bottle (£39!) and not the standard house bottle. With a difference in cost of £10 we were very annoyed that we had not been asked if we would like the dearer one but just given it. We assumed we would have been served the house Prosecco and not the most expensive one. When challenged the very friendly server soon changed their attitude and said this was the house one! We paid our bill and left and we will not be back. This left a very sour taste in the mouth and was extremely disappointing from this venue.

We had an excellent lunch yesterday at a more than reasonable price. Two of us had the meal deal and the other a wrap but it was a difficult choice as everything looked so good and fresh. The meal deal included a delicious bowl of soup, bread roll, piece of fruit and a hot drink. A little off the main town as it is on the lower floor of the Toll Clock Shopping Centre but well worth the effort. We were served by lovely staff and a good chat with one the owners. Would highly recommend.

The absolute worst lunch I have had in many, many years. I was charged £6.50 for a tuna and cheese (allegedly) panini that looked like it had been given the last rights four days before, and £3.00 for a *small* dish of incinerated chips. The cutlery wasn't sparkling (to a point where I preferred to eat with my fingers) and the tables were sadly lacking a good wipe down with disinfectant. And don't get me started on the two pint pots on the window ledge with what appeared to be cider vinegar in it covered partially with cling film to trap flies presumably as there was one lost soul already in it's tardy grave. Had I not been with friends and didn't want them to feel uncomfortable, I would have asked for my money back. Would I recommend going to this bar? ... I leave you to answer your own question.

This is the restaurant review (there is a separate page for the hotel review). We were delighted to pay a first visit to this rather special place, its secluded and beautiful location befitted the tranquil and refined luncheon we experienced. Impeccable and memorable food. We noted more casual bar food also available. Booking essential.

We had a wonderful meal here from starter to dessert, the menu is very well put together. I had the scallops to start, beef fillet for main and Delice for dessert, all highly recommended, the beef main course was one of the best pieces of beef I have ever had. Simply outstanding!!

Gyros is a great little Greek restaurant/café in Ayr. The atmosphere is chilled out with relaxed friendly service. The Greek coffee is excellent and you won't find a cheaper coffee in Ayr. My partner and I have been twice for a light meze lunch and will be back again: a new favourite.
