This little cafe serves amazing freshly made Vegan and Vegetarian food. We had delicious Thai dishes mine was tofu and vegetables in tamarind sauce with noodles- one of the best tasting dishes ever! They have a standard menu plus lots of specials. Also cakes and desserts Very reasonable prices with good service.

We stumbled across Pumpernickel last year on a visit to Dumfries. This year we returned to Dumfries because of Pumpernickel. The food is incredible (I can personally recommend the Satay Tofu). It is owned and run by a husband and wife team with the husband doing "front of house" and his wife doing the cooking (what a cook she is!!!!!!!). All of the cakes are vegan and the coffee is excellent. If you want stunning vegan/vegetarian food in a clean and friendly environment which is also dog friendly then this is the place for you. Sadly, being vegan, I can't comment on the egg sandwiches

I didn't really want to eat here but my vegetarian son wanted to give it a try.He seemed happy enough with his choice of meal.I struggled to find anything on the menu.I finally settled on an egg mayo sandwich. When it arrived at the table it was warm which turned my stomach! So for lunch i had 1 bite of sandwich,3 crisps and 2 wedges of tomato. To drink i had a banana milkshake which was passable. When we got the bill i was shocked-almost £23 for my sons food and my sandwich which i couldn't ear

The food sounded delicious with a selection of Thai and Vietnamese dishes listed on the menu. unfortunately when I tried to order some I was told the kitchen was too busy to prepare any hot food and so the only choice of hot food was soup as it was already hot. To be honest if this was the case I wish I had been told before being seated as I would have gone elsewhere.

We had coffee and nice cakes from a good selection in the cabinet by the till. Some of the (what looked like Thai) lunches looked good as they went passed, but we had a large breakfast, so didn't indulge. Perhaps next time?

I cannot rate Pumpernickel highly enough, the food was simply amazing. Catered fully for vegans with lots of choice, the tamarind tofu and veg & mushroom Bao buns were delicious. The portion sizes were great for the price & they made a great coffee too. When visiting Dumfries I would recommend this to anyone - It had options for everyone. The cakes looked great, if only we weren’t so full from lunch!! Maybe next time :)

Never did I ever think a vegetarian cafe would so quickly become our favourite place to have lunch but the food here is amazing. The Asian part of the menu covers everything from Thai to Vietnamese and not one dish is a disappointment. We usually order at least 4 different dishes at a time and the flavours are always so different. If you want guilt free fried rice this is the place and the best we have ever tasted. Try it once and you’ll be back again and again

This was my first visit to Dumfries, so I’d researched where I could eat as a vegan. Pumpernickle’s the only vegetarian/vegan cafe in the town…..but there were enough appealing vegan options on the menu to keep me coming back! The “fried tofu, tamarind and noodles dish” that I chose was amazingly generous in portion size and value for money - just £7.50 for as much as I could have eaten. My friend (an omnivore), really enjoyed her veg haggis baked potato too…..but did look on enviously at my plate of very yummy food! 🤣 Pumpernickel, the museum at the end of the bridge (can’t remember its name) + a walk along the riverside to a contemporary art exhibition at the Gracefield Arts Centre, made for a very nice Birthday day out! Why not combine all three options yourself? I hope you have as good a time as we did! x

If I could give more stars I would! We visited here on 2 occasions for food, as a family while holidaying along the road. My partner and I also enjoyed a few drinks in the beer garden on sunnier days. So impressed with the lovely, friendly, helpful staff. The food was really good pub grub, tasty and good value. I should have taken pictures, but I was too busy enjoying it!! Also, a special mention to the lovely wee lady behind the bar who got my rum & coke just right every time (1 ice cube 😉). If we lived locally, we'd be back for sure.

Food deliciously fresh, ambience warm. Lovely customer service. Menu quite small but great choices and very reasonably priced. Dog friendly (ours at home but met a few) We will definitely return.

Called in for a snack and a cup of tea and to be honest nothing startling. The staff were fine but quite expensive and the food wasn’t great.

Absolutely gutted to find this place had ceased trading, since our last visit in August 22. This hidden gem was part of our journey down south for the past 7 years, after stumbling on it by accident. It offered a hearty meal for a fraction of the price they charge, at a service station
