I came in yesterday for a quick drink, and was so impressed by the attentiveness and kindness of the server Charlotte. She was so sweet and her recommendations were spot on. We thought she was great! Thought the cocktail was delish and will be back !!!

El tiempo de espera para la comida y bebida era abismal, casi se pierde más reservas esperando en nuestra cena. El lugar ni siquiera estaba ocupado para poner la excusa de que se les corrió de los pies, vio a los dos camareros detenerse y tener conversaciones mientras esperábamos a que nos tomaran la orden. Lo había reservado para mi cumpleaños, nunca más iré.

Todos disfrutamos de un almuerzo encantador hoy, la comida era deliciosa y el personal increíble. Nos atendieron por Abi que no podía hacer lo suficiente por nosotros y el gerente (lo siento no consiguió su nombre) era servicial más allá. Han visitado este lugar varias veces y nunca han sido decepcionados. Ya tengo otra fecha para comer reservada.

I recently hosted a birthday party at JTT with food and a tab and wow. The staff were amazing, attentive and eager to help. They made the night memorable and still, weeks on, get many reminiscing about what a special night. I highly recommend this place for celebrations or just a wee get together with some friends. I had the BEST night in so long at this place, liv our help was the best server I’ve ever had (I’m a big review person) and truly I will always come back to this place because I had SUCH a good time

We had a fabulous evening at The Newsroom/Jackson the Tailor for our group of 4 on a rainy Tuesday evening. Our server Beckie was terrific, offering over and above the level of service expected, the food was delicious and the atmosphere relaxing. Our group had a variety of food, vegetable pakoras to start were tasty, the steak and Guinness pies just right and I had the vegetarian Haggis (oats as Beckie explained) which was wonderful. It was a comfortable, relaxing evening that we savoured for a lot longer than anticipated. Highly recommend this very convenient location for a great meal and drinks.

Booked for a work event for 40 people just for drinks and we were so well looked after by both Beckie and Claire. They were so friendly and knowledgeable about cocktails which were awesome. They made for a fun night and even kept up with the demand for drinks exceptionally well. They are both a credit to the place and we will return for another work night out if not just with a few friends to enjoy the atmosphere, drinks and of course the service. Thanks again

Beckie was a great bartender! She gave us good recommendations and made delicious balanced cocktails! Wonderful experience! Beautiful glasses and garnishes, dark beautiful and not too loud atmosphere.

We went to the restaurant and the waiter told us that sitting upstairs was only for an hour. I hope it is fair to all places. As for the style, it needs more experience.

We had known about The Newsroom but had never noticed this speakeasy, we were excited to visit on a Saturday night. Surprisingly, they said to order at the bar, which was fine by us. The lone bartender had a bunch of personal items cluttering the counter behind them, and my partner said they were following drink recipes to make the drinks. However, in the 2 rounds we had, my partner must’ve been up at the bar for 30-40 minutes total. The speakeasy itself was pretty empty, but they were clearly making drink orders for upstairs. So while we were one of the few tables downstairs, I ended up wondering what on earth was going on. Additionally, they offered the full range of food items from The Newsroom, and it actually got smoky and greasy in the bar from this. The decor and atmosphere was great, but it was ruined by the smells of greasy food. I think Jackson the Tailor should prioritize drink orders from customers waiting at the bar, not from upstairs. Perhaps customers wanting food should just be funneled to The Newsroom. Finally, I felt the cocktail list was a little too “classic” to make much differentiation, the bar is positioned as a specialty cocktail bar after all. I think they could be more creative and come up with more original drinks than a vesper or Hugo spritz. I enjoyed the vibe but unfortunately the wait in an empty bar was far too long to be worth it.

Looks cool, but with only 2 overworked staff on a busy fringe Saturday (only one bartender) service was slow but rushed. These staff need a pay rise.

Absolutely atrocious, a £12 "cocktail" that tasted solely of lime juice and sugar with a brown dried apple slice on top. Staff eating at the end of the bar, Half emptied bottle pack abandoned on the bar.

Spectacular space, came early so it was pretty quiet. It’s clear why the interior won an award. The Negroni was expertly made, service was stellar. Only drawback for me was the strong cigarette smell at the bar/front of the space as it was wafting down from the entryway above.

Drinks are really nice, chill place to sit and enjoy company as well as great drinks.

Went to Jackson the Tailor today for drinks. Lovely setting. At first bar staff were fab then when it came to us leaving we were told we had not paid for our first round despite me refusing a tab and paying as I go. I showed a Manager my transactions and he agreed there had been a mistake however the bar person was very rude and said we 100% had not paid our first round and was not interested in listening to us prove that we had by showing my bank transactions. Cannot fault the Managers as they were very very understanding but the girl behind the bar was very rude as were her peers and looked at us in a very accusing way stating we were out of order for being outraged at the accusations. I am not in the habit of not paying my bills so am extremely upset that i was accused of such in such an awful way. Security came while i checked my transactions with the Manager, very embarrassing when i had done nothing wrong. I won't be back in this establishment

We booked a table for 8 people for dinner having popped in for a quick drink earlier in the day and we were super impressed! Such a beautiful setting and great drinks menu. The food menu met the needs of everyone in our group whether meat-eater, pescatarian or vegetarian and the kitchen was able to cater for a neurodiverse very ‘picky’ eater with no problem. All the food we had was excellent and we couldn’t fault Megan and her colleague who served us. We would highly recommend and will definitely return if in Edinburgh again.

This was my first time here and it was great. The decor is lovely, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The cocktails were tasty. We ended up getting a bite to eat and it was delicious.

Lovely venue, with perfect staff. Becky particularly was very friendly, personable and professional. We had some cocktails and some nachos, after work and were so pleasantly surprised at the exceptional service. Will be telling friends about this place

Food was utterly delicious and the green haired girl Beckie was fabby. Great attitude and very attentive. Great atmosphere!

We needed a good lunch and found Jackson. It was a Saturday and the upper level was packed but they said the downstairs was available. The downstairs has a totally different vibe but definitely recommend. The food was amazing. I had the chicken burger and definitely loved it. We both got gin and mixers. Their drink menu is extensive and hard to choose what to get which is always a good problem. Roman was our sever and deserves 5 stars too! Before you leave check out the amazing toilets!

Gorgeous place and loved the music. Wasn’t sure what to order when I arrived and our bar tender was amazing, basically just asked me a couple of questions and helped me figure out what to drink! Pretty sure her name was Beckie/Becky so thanks so much to her!

Popped into the Newsroom for a quick lunch on my visit to Edinburgh. I’m solo travelling so I just grabbed a seat at the bar, and Tam was wonderful. It’s a busy place and he managed it impeccably. Fast service, friendly personality, and a great food recommendation. 10/10 recommend.

Beautiful, plush bar for a chilled evening. Popped in on Sat evening with a friend. We were greeted and helped to a table promptly as some tables were reserved. I'd suggest booking in advance esp if eating😉. Rachel, our server was friendly and attentive- thank you! We didn't have food on this occasion.

Nice decor, plush seating, cosy and warm relaxing atmosphere. Rachel was very helpful and informative. The food and drinks menus were enticing.

A chance conversation with a woman in a lift led to us heading into this little speakeasy across from the St James Centre. Downstairs from the Newsroom is Jackson The Tailor, a lovely little basement bar with a speakeasy vibe (and identity). We didn’t have a reservation but could sit at the bar and got a spot after just a few minutes. Great cocktail list, nice choice of wines, comfy seats and lovely, 20s style decor. The bar staff were efficient and quite funny (they had some, let’s say ‘challenging’ clients while we were there) and also made me a non-alcoholic version of one of their cocktails. The Bakewell Tartini cocktail was beautiful to look at and delicious. We also tried some loaded Philly fries - cheese, onions, mustard and tomato sauce - sounds random but we’re absolutely delicious! Food menu looks excellent. Lots of choice and good veggie options. Definitely give it a try.

Loved this bar, great aesthetic, friendly staff, very clean, good ambience, and perfect spot when you want a natter and a drink. My friend who introduced me to it described it as a "Speakeasy style bar" and he wasn't far off! Classic style, redwood panelling and mirrors, with great armchairs and booths. Somewhat Gatsby-ish, and just a great place to sit and loudly bemoan the notion of landlords and capitalism, much to the bemusement of passing staff!

A great place for a cocktail and a bite. We had a fabulous evening with fantastic cocktails that were very tasty and well priced. The service was great and the general atmosphere evoked the cocktail rooms of the past. Definitely worth a visit when in Edinburgh.

Another amazing visit to The Boujee Jackson’s found down stairs of The Newsroom, service was outstanding & didn’t falter at all in the 5hrs we where there, it was extremely busy but the staff were so happy to help & made sure every customer was attended too & gave 110% at all times - Huge shout out to our magnificent & extraordinary cocktail maker Gregor who kept us going with delightful cocktail’s ( The Bakewell Tartini 😋a must/ you have to taste to believe it’s deliciousness) & not forgetting the yummy food! OMG the Balmoral chicken & fries was indeed 👨🏻‍🍳👌🏻 - Can’t wait to go back. I’d highly recommend you pre book - lots of people gutted it was so busy & no tables available again staff bending over backwards to help. Massive thanks to the whole team especially the very talented Gregor - you all made our Saturday Christmas Day out 💯

Would highly recommend this spot for unreal cocktails !! After the day from hell and some dreadful cocktails at another location me and my mum thought we would give this cheeky spot a visit and it didn’t disappoint. A huge shout out to Rachel who was amazing and really made our time special and if you are going this Christmas try the Bakewell tartini !! Could have drank about 5 more. Will be recommending Jackson’s to friends and family and hope to be back shortly.

This place is just lovely. Although it's underground, the ambience of the 1930s style decor and lighting is so welcoming. Food and drink is reasonably priced and they were able to offer a gluten free menu. Food servings are massive, I felt bad for leaving food on my plate! Staff were so nice, Rachel was our waitress and she couldn't do enough for us, making sure the kitchen were aware of my friend's dietary needs. Yes, that is expected but other restaurants, staff tend to roll their eye's when a customer wants something not the norm. We had burgers and as i say, the portion was huge. If you go for the hell boy, be prepared, it's jam packed with jalapeños and piri sauce, you'll need the glass of water they bring to your table! This is the perfect place to go to if you are ending your trip to Edinburgh and are leaving by train. It's literally three minutes from Waverley station. Will definitely return to this restaurant and wil also try the newsroom that is the restaurant above which are the same company.

Our evening at Jackson the Tailor was truly delightful! We savoured a variety of classic and signature cocktails that were simply fantastic. The decor is nothing short of amazing, with opulent jewel colours that set the perfect mood. A memorable experience, indeed!

My boyfriend and I came here for my Birthday on Saturday, and we had a wonderful meal! The cocktails were amazing and there was so many to choose from (sadly we couldn't try them all, but we made a good attempt haha!). The food was amazing, I got the other half to try haggis for the first time and ended up having to share my starter of haggis fritters (booo! 🤣). I then had the Balmoral Chicken and he had the Naughty Piggy dog, both tasted so good! I'm so happy I booked this restaurant as it did not disappoint! The food was lovely, cocktails were lovely, staff were great and the atmosphere for a quiet, cosy evening was perfect for celebrating - thank you!

Went with a friend for a catch up and lunch. They do the best STEAK AND GUINNESS PIE ever, with lovely rough puff pastry. plenty meat, and a tasty gravy.. I don't like carrots in my veg and they accommodated this. My friend has the Nachos and asked for them minus the Jalapenos, which was also not a problem. I also had the Deep Fried MARS Bar with crushed Walnuts, delicious! JACKSONS is a separate room downstairs from main bar and was quieter.

This definitely is a hidden gem not far from the mile just across the bridge. We had a really great experience and meal, and the cocktails were amazing. Generally very good service and fantastic setting, and very reasonably priced!

Broad menu with pretty standard bar food (note Jackson and Tailor share a menu with the Newsroom upstairs). Food was good. Atmosphere great and drinks excellent. It reserves fast so either go off hours (i did late lunch Sunday as a walk in but was unable to get in anytime over dinner/evening on thurs or friday calling 24 hours ahead upon my arrival) or plan your visit. Worth the effort. Next time I would probably keep it to snacks and drinks for simplicity .. particularly if with a group.

Went for a date here, and the service from the bartender Abdul was fantastic. Lovely and chatty, gave a couple of nice recommendations and put up with my chat as the night came to a close. Lovely setting as well, the Jackson is a really nice, clean venue for drinks and evening conversation.

What a wonderful place! The decor and mood made me feel like I was in an elegant speakeasy. And the food was delicious! Next time I’m in Edinburgh it will be at the top of my dining list.

Not an obvious restaurant from the street but upon entering you’ll soon discover something quite surprising. Beautifully decorated, wonderful staff and amazing food! Music playing in the background was very nice too. I had the Beef Guinness Pot Pie which was incredible. I wish I was going to be in Edinburgh a bit longer just to enjoy another meal there!

My wife and I went to every major bar in Edinburgh on vacation and the basement lounge of Jackson the Tailor had the best drinks in the city by far! It's the only place we hit twice because we couldn't get over those cocktails. Thank you! 10/10

Outstanding. I reserved several tables for my wife's birthday celebration with our family and friends. I arranged the buffet with ease. Communications with the manager prior to the celebration was excellent and reassured that there was nothing to worry about. On the day, the staff, food and lounge area was honestly outstanding. The staff were professional, attention to detail, kind and friendly. We had the most amazing time and will never forget the newsroom. Big thanks to Karina (manager), such an amazing person and thoughtful. The buffet was on time, hot and tasty. No complaints for me or our party. Friends did comment on the amount of choice there was and said it was magnificent. I would highly highly highly recommend it.

A literal hidden gem since you must walk down the stairs and past the toilets to reach it. We had the haggis and steak pie with drinks. All were good! The only drawback was the cold. We and the staff needed to keep our coats on. Perhaps that was the reason it was shockingly empty when the Newsroom upstairs was full and turned us away.
