Me encantó.

My hubby was given a voucher as a thank you so we had lunch today and it was just lovely. Just have to point out we've both passed this place often and although it's at a very prominent location we never noticed it. The place is immaculate and certainly attention to detail. The lady who served us couldn't have been more courteous and friendly without being invasive and nothing too much bother. Started with cauliflower soup with curried oil and then cheeseburger and sweet potato fries all delicious. The shining star for me was the sweet potato fries we got to share ... they were fabulous and best I've tasted. I'd have liked more but couldn't sadly too full. Very good value for quality food from a chef that clearly cares!

We used to live nearby Redwood Bistro and would often dine there, it is absolutely one of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. It is what a local neighborhood restaurant should be, and we were always welcomed so warmly by the lovely Irish waitress who we got to know so well but foolishly never asked her name! Everything about it is fantastic - the food, wine, atmosphere, and the staff. It is a real welcome addition to the area as well, although there are other good options nearby, Redwood really stands out as somewhere a bit more special, but still somewhere you can just pop in to mid week when you don't feel like cooking (which was normally the case for us)! We have recently moved to Australia and are so disappointed that we can no longer drop in for a great meal and a chat. We look forward to returning next time we are in Edinburgh and wish them all the very best!

I love Haloumi, however the same level of reverence is not always displayed by the various kitchens from whence it has emerged. This one was really spot on, as were the sweet potato chips and garnish. Okay, so in theory this isn't rocket science but many a past experience has demonstrated that it at least requires a degree in aeronautical engineering. I may have also experienced time-dilation at work, as one person managed, without fluster, to keep the whole show moving along with patience and an indulgent smile. My colleague enjoyed his steak and the Malbec flowed. No hesitation in recommending.

My boyfriend and I were staying in Corstophine for one night during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and went out looking for the one Italian restaurant the girl at our hotel told us was nearby. We didn't find it, but as we were about to give up and succumb to the McDonald's Golden Arches, we spotted the Redwood Bistro. So, so glad we did! What was apparently once a family house has been converted into a seriously welcoming but cool little restaurant, offering Californian fusion food that was by far the best meal we had in Edinburgh! We both had the ras el hanout spiced flank steak with bulgar wheat salad and the kitchen also very generously let me have a side of broccoli that was on the lunch menu (we were there in the evening). Pretty much everything on the menu has gluten free/vegetarian/vegan variants too. While we ended up spending a little more than we intended to that evening, the meal was reasonably priced, especially considering the standard of the food. If you want something a little different for a special night this bistro would be ideal too. I didn't catch the name of the lady who served us, but she was so accommodating and lovely. She recommended a red wine to my boyfriend that he really enjoyed (I don't drink red, so I'll have to take his word for it) and was very attentive. Would 100% return if we're ever back up in the area.

People have been talking about Redwood because of the gaudy exterior paint but took a gamble with a friend for lunch as there is really nothing in the Corstorphine area. (Bit hairy getting into the car park as the entrance is so close to the Drumbrae roundabout so would probably park in Tesco car park next time). We were welcomed by a lovely, friendly Irish waitress and seated in the calm, clean and comfortable restaurant. The service was great - prompt and the right mix of chatty and helpful. Great varied menu and overall reasonable prices. We took a while to decide as there were lots to tempt us. I had a chicken wrap which was delicious - garlicky, interesting flavours fresh and crunchy. Tasty side salad and scrumptious sweet potato fries. The wrap was reasonable at £6.25 but we felt the fries were a bit steep at £3.25. My friend loves her houmous tostada too. I then had the gluten free/ vegan chocolate cake which was fresh, moist and generous. I left half but this was not a reflection on the chef's evident skills in producing such a great flour/ egg free cake - it just wasn't something I was used to . My friend loved her pecan loaf. We will definitely return and I have been raving about Redwood to family and friends to try it. (I hope they have replaced their tea pots for next time as the cute design was not functional and spilt boiling tea allover the place when you try to pour).

Have passed this place a number of times on my way home from work. Today I decided to let my curiosity lead the way. This little blue restaurant didn't let me down. Most times when I dine solo am given one of the seats away in a corner. However I was offered a choice to sit at a lovely table for 2 by the window. The hostess for the evening was lovely and we'll informed. Food (bread with dukkah and olive oil and vinegar and a seafood pasta) was delicious. The noise of the busy roundabout stays out of the restaurant and you feel tucked away into a nice cosy spot. A nice enterprise by the Chef who is Californian ad her support staff.

We chose the restaurant because of its proximity to our B&B but we'll make a point of travelling to eat here when we are next in Edinburgh. It is that good. The front of house staff are charming, the menu offers plenty of choice and the cooking is exceptional - but be prepared for spice! We loved it. The wine list is lengthy and reasonably priced and all wines are offered by the glass. The atmosphere and service were laid back and smoothly professional making the evening a really pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

The Drum Brae roundabout on the road into Edinburgh used to be famous for the pink hulk of a building that houses PC World and had somehow escaped the planners which has fortunately now changed to a more sympathetic shade of grey. The junction now had two great assets. The first is the Redwood Bistro and the second is a stop for the airport bus so, with planning, it is possible to have an enjoyable lunch or dinner on the way there. (There is also car parking available). The outside of the building is blue, hinting at the warm Californian sunshine in contrast to the cold of a February day in Edinburgh; inside the contemporary interiors have a wealth of posters all linked to the theme of California, reflecting the name “Redwood” the origins of the chef and the cuisine which is American with an occasional and not unexpected Mexican twist. The food was well-presented and delicious. Try the unusual nibbles such as the spicy caramel bacon popcorn or grilled bread with a tasty spice mix, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The starters include soup of the day, grilled baby squid, cheese soufflé and prawns & mussels, followed by main courses including harissa-rubbed salmon fillets, Mexican spiced duck breast and marinated lamb chops, all with a Californian fusion of ingredients and vegetables which are unexpected in Edinburgh but work beautifully. The courses were a good size so there was no room, I’m afraid, for the dessert or the IJ Mellis specialty cheeses, but they too looked delicious. While the menu is predominantly meat or fish, vegetarian options can be ordered in advance. An excellent wine list, including a few wines from the USA, and mostly available by the glass plus good Scottish beers and one from the Sierra Nevada. Definitely worth stopping off here on the way to the airport.

I remember his establishment as a former bed and breakfast. It sits on one of the busiest roundabouts in Scotland's Capital city.Basically, it is the roundabout where many L drivers come to grief on their test. Speaking of tests, Redwood passed all ours with flying colours. My only gripe was the décor, a tad drab, but the scatter cushions helped lift the environment and the music, an eclectic mix of American, past and present was an added ingredient. The traditional San Francisco tomato-based shellfish stew was so good I used my spoon to remove every last drop from the plate. My Asian marinated flank steak arrived on a bed of soba noodles and the dish was interlaced with vegetables. The soy-sesame sauce had, for me, a tad too much ginger, but the dish packed a real punch. For sweet, I adored the coconut cake with lemon curd filling.Don’t drive past. Park somewhere – if you can find a space – and walk it even if you can’t get into the bistro car park. It is worth the effort.

With home renovations in full swing my sister and I went to Redwood for our dinner after work. On arrival (after having parked - very handy to have private parking in Corstorphine) we were greeted and quickly shown to our table. The restaurant decor takes you away from the wet and wild Scottish weather we have been having and reminds you of warmer times with sunny California vibes. Once seated we were offered drinks and menus. After a good catch-up with my sister we placed our orders. It was nice not feeling rushed into ordering as soon as we arrived and the staff could see us sisters were busy talking and not enough menu reading. We ordered the cheese souffle to start which we shared between us. My sister had never had souffle before and I only once and we were both so impressed with it. Particularly liked the side salad with poached pear and nuts this really added to the flavour of the cheese souffle. It was devoured in minutes! For mains we ordered the chicken skewers with asian fusion veg and rice as well as the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. Unable to choose between the two my sister and I split them. We were given extra plates by the staff to ensure we could split the food easily and enjoyed tastes from both. This worked so well for us and ensured neither missed out. For us we enjoyed the fresh tasting food which was presented in a great way and variety of options on offer. Portion sizes suited us perfect too and we cleared both plates! Staff were attentive and friendly to us.We toyed with having a dessert and spotting the cheese board too we nearly indulged but decided not that night. Instead hot chocolates to finish before we braved out into the wild and cold weather again. We will definitely be back and already recommended to friends who have booked in. Also keen to pop by in the afternoons for coffee and cake - this is a great addition to have in Corstorphine.

I love Tripadvisor and use it to choose all my 'special occasion' restaurants so was really excited to go here. Visiting with a friend who was having her first lunch out after having her beautiful wee girl. We were looking forward to good food, a glass of wine and a great chat. Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Actually it is!!The waitress ran around like a headless chicken the whole time, managed to order a bottle of wine which arrived prompt. We ordered lunch, chilli almonds for nibbles, cheese soufflé, chilli squid and a portion of sweet potatoes. Sadly she didn't write it down. Almonds arrived quickly, followed by Chilli squid, sweet potatoes and quiche. When pointed out we didn't order quiche but soufflé we were asked if we wanted it instead, erm NO!! Told the soufflé would arrive quickly I started my squid which was rapidly going cold under its Rocket camouflage. We asked to have another portion of Sweet potato fries and were assured they would arrive quickly. 25 minutes later the soufflé arrived, again with a very generous helping of Rocket - I guess it is the cheapest accompaniment?? Still no fries, which arrived 10 minutes later, these were removed from the bill (although to my mind should never have been on the bill.)Food was decent, although far too much Rocket but the service was awful, wouldn't return if I were paid let alone spend money here!!

We had our Thanksgiving dinner here, so it was a special circumstance, but the food was an entertaining and excellent interpretation of the usual turkey and the trimmings, and the service was friendly, if at times a little slow (but then the restaurant was packed given the occasion). The setting, a converted single family home on the cornere of a main road in a suburb was a little idiosyncratic, but this was more than made up for by the attractive interior and the excellent food.

I decided to treat my wife to a surprise night out, booked here that day for two which was a good start to things, we arrived and had a delicious glass of good quality prosecco whilst we hummed and hawed over the simple but lovely menu choices. My wife had the fig salad to start, i went for the pigeon breast, we also ordered a more unusual bottle of red that we drink otherwise. To say that the food was delicious would be a disservice to it, it was way beyond that, perfectly executed, wonderfully presented, and a boatload of flavour in every mouthful, we tried little bits of each others and were also suitably impressed. We opted for the 5 spice duck as a main, again beyond description other than heavenly. My wife had the cheeseboard to finish, i could not resist the double choc torte, the cheeseboard had a really good selection of biscuits and oatcakes, enough for all the cheese, which we liked immensely as it is Mellis cheese, nice chutney too,and my choc dessert was bordering on the sexual it was that good. We will be going back LOTS now we know this is here, we plan to work our way through the ever evolving menu, and the rather interesting wine list. I have already recommended this place to 4 other people today. Prices are bang on, not expensive for what you get. This restaurant is on its way up, and rightly so, outstanding all round. We booked the Thanksgiving dinner for our trip to Edinburgh. First off, the place is pretty far from Old Town and the taxi driver had no idea where it was, but no big deal we made it just fine. The restaurant is in a converted house. The hostess/waitress was obviously very busy and overwhelmed by their busy night and we had the last seating. She graciously sat us and took our drink order. The place is bright and covered with California posters (which made us laugh since we are from California). We obviously knew we were choosing to do something very American on vacation which is unlike us, but we wanted to celebrate the holiday. Unfortunately, this place was so loud we could barely hear each other speak, whether it was the clientele or the acoustics I'm not sure. My poor husband was so irritated he kept having to go outside to escape the level of noise and the young man behind us talking so loud. Of course not the restaurant's fault, but they could add some fabrics to help absorb sound etc. It was a set menu for the holiday. The food was average. As I said though, we were the last seating so it may have been great earlier in the night. After our initial attendance, we had a tough time getting plates cleared and refills on drinks. It wouldn't have bothered us so much if we weren't just dying to escape the loud atmosphere. I am giving this a 3 because maybe it was just a poor night to have gone. The regular menu looked very California. We really wanted a romantic, holiday dinner and were disappointed it didn't turn out that way.

A great addition to the area and we wish we had found it sooner. We look forward to eating here again.

Visited Redwoods last night with hubby for the first time, so wish I'd discovered it sooner. Top marks for everything particularly the service. Beautiful cosy restaurant that is great for couples or groups. Menu is really unusual and quality of food and presentation was spectacular. Only matched by the quality of service from the 2 staff taking care of us front of house. So good we booked our return visit before we left. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

My wife and I went with a close friend yesterday evening and the food was really excellent. For my main I had hake in a light coconut curry sauce on a salad bed with black rice and it was just delicious. The panacotta with ginger biscuits I had for dessert was so good also. The ladies also were delighted with their food. Wine list excellent too.The only disappointment was that the restaurant was very quiet. Cannot understand why unless Halloween and fireworks affected bookings. All I can say is that there are fireworks aplenty in the food here.

A friend of ours recommended this restaurant, and we are grateful for it. We were there on a quiet evening (we ate around 5:30 or 6:00 - so early) but the atmosphere was great, the waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful and the food was fantastic! The menu clearly spells out options for vegetarians, dairy free, and gluten free diets which is helpful if you need that. We were staying downtown, so a ways away - we had to take the bus out and back, but the bus networks work very well and it was absolutely worth the trip.

Having lived in corstorphine for around 6 years and for 5 of those years moaned about there being no good restaurant, I'm ashamed to admit it took us a year to go to Redwood. Having finally gone this weekend we were very impressed. Menu looks quite strange because it isn't standard generic dishes, but the food was different, fresh, tasty and good portion sizes. Wines and beers good too. Staff very pleasant and nice relaxed bistro atmosphere which was great. The lemon thyme Panama cotta was one of the best desserts I've had in a while! We will definitely be back!

Excellent dining experience. Lovely setting. We were staying in a flat nearby and walked to this delightful bistro, which we chose based on other reviews. If I find myself back in Edinburgh in the near future, I will be visiting Redwood again.

We went to Redwood on a Wednesday night for our anniversary dinner. I used to visit Redwood when it was in Stockbridge and at that time it was one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. I was therefore interested to see if anything had changed since it closed and now reopened at Costorphine. I am happy to say it is still just as good. Food tasty and fresh. Nice light dishes which allows you to have 3 courses and therefore a very well balanced meal. Good service and reasonable prices.

It has a very pleasant atmosphere with very knowledgeable staff, they have a small but clever menu that has is something for everyone, the wine list is extensive and there is also a good selection of ales. The food was of a very good standard and served in good time and on warm plates. We had booked a table but there was some tables available so you may get away without booking. There is limited parking (6 spaces) but there is plenty of parking in the retail site over the road (50m)I would fully recommend this restaurant, and I will be back.Enjoy

My daughter and I had a lovely meal at Redwood Bistro in late June 2015. The staff was very friendly and made great recommendations. We decided to do it "tapas" style and ordered many small plates, starting with the Spicy Caramel Popcorn (perfect sweet and salty combination!), Grilled Halloumi and Sun Dried Tomato Bites with Pesto, Roasted Red Pepper-Aubergine dip with Feta and Balsamic Glaze, and the Mini Tortilla Cups with Smoked Chicken and Mango Black-Bean Salsa. All were very tasty and presented perfectly. We followed that with the Chipotle Prawn Tostada (for me) and Mixed Greens with Strawberries and Goat Cheese salad (for the daughter). We topped it off with the Double Chocolate Mousse Torte (decadence!) All ingredients were so fresh and flavors so well balanced. Also a great wine list! Would recommend to both those who know California cuisine and those who are new to it. We will be back!

Visited Redwood when it first opened and although the food was excellent, the atmosphere and the decor was not!We returned last night to give it another try and so glad we did.Great atmosphere, lovely colourful décor, tables not too close, service excellent from two very pleasant young waiting staff, and the food was superb. As reported by previous reviewers, the standard of food is first class and the presentation is excellent, so tasty and so unusual. Its hard to believe that such healthy ingredients can taste so good!We had the pleasure of meeting Annette, the owner, and enjoyed chatting to her about the restaurant. I hope it continues to do well as Corstorphine lacks a good quality restaurant. We will certainly be back!

I've been here a handful of times now, and it's definitely my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. My constant. We've eaten at so many different places in Edinburgh, including Michelin Star restaurants, and although they've all been lovely, the Redwood is top of my scran list. The staff are so bloomin friendly, and the food is amazing. Mainly as I had no idea healthy food (not a chip in sight!) could taste so amazing. A quick bus ride from town, so don't let the location put you off. You have to go.And try the spicy pecans!!

We had dinner here last night and it was absolutely fantastic. Started off with a glass of wine on the deck in the sunshine, before moving indoors to our table for a delicous crab & mango salad starter, followed by cumin spiked lamb skewers for main course. All very well prepared and tasted lovely. Every dish on the table looked & tasted great. Service was good too - we were busy chatting the night away and never felt under pressure to leave. Pleasant atmosphere & decor and would totally recommend it to anyone. Will be going back!

Decided to try Redwood in Costorphine having passed it several times in its prominent position off the main Glasgow Road. We had been to its previous incarnation in Stockbridge and were not to be disappointed.Bright airy decor with plenty of room between tables. It was not busy for 7:30 on a Friday. We were explained that the menu included starters that could made to main course size to extend the choice. We had the caramel bacon popcorn whilst we decided a must have. We chose the chipotle prawns and crab and mango starters. Both sized perfectly and very tasty. A lovely bottle of Chardonnay from Sonoma accompanied dinner. Mains of smoked chicken and lamb skewers accompanied by couscous and quinoa were delicious with not a chip or fried thing in sight. Such a treat to enjoy the flavours Of everything on the plate. We shared cheese and chocolate dessert with large glasses of Pedro Ximenez, how they do that gorgeous wine for the price I don't know. The service was excellent with nicely timed breaks between courses and the bill paid before our Our taxi home arrives

Disclaimer: I know Annette (not well, but we've been acquainted for a few years). She did not ask me to review this, and does not know I am doing so.I'd been meaning to try Redwood so when I was in the area I stopped in for lunch. Very pleased with the way the menu allows vegetarian/vegan substitutions for many of the choices - it's so nice to be able to order something other than The Veggie Burger or The Veggie Wrap (though the burger is on offer as well). There are also well-signposted gluten free options. My broccoli/chickpea/halloumi fritters were tasty and I only wish there had been another of them, but it was a perfect snack. My hungrier husband had the chicken wrap and would have it again.Nice posters - vintage California, so keeping up the theme without being too in-your-face about it.When I'm in the area again, I will go for dinner.

My wife and went out to celebrate our wedding anniversary we had been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened. We both had a really good night. The restaurant was not really busy there was a bit of a delay between courses, but the food was worth waiting for and the waitress said that the chef had phoned down to apologise. The menu is limited, but you can choose to have one of the starters as a main course which does increase the choice. I have to comment on the waitress, a lovely lass originally from Gallway in Ireland, who was very friendly and attentive without being overpowering. Would I go back, definitely and as they are now open for lunch and afternoon tea I have noexcuse not to.

This new restaurant is local to us in an area of Edinburgh not known for its cuisine. Fashionable modern style decor with room for around 25 diners, it is welcoming and although it was quiet with only 6 other diners, it had a nice ambience helped by choice of music playing in the background. We started with a snack of Bacon flavoured chilli popcorn - delicious, skipped started and followed with Duck breast with parsnip crisps and Sea bass with quinoa. These mains were inventive plates with nice combinations of ingredients, portion size was just right for us, and very tasty. Can't remember the names of the dessert but we had a delicious chocolate cake and a lovely creme caramel/brûlée. We couldn't resist the cheeseboard to share afterwards either. Wine choice was good though tad expensive for local dining. Bill was around £70 which is more than we would pay for out of town normally, but it was worth it for quality and originality.

Visited for a second time. First time being a set christmas menu. So a slightly different review this time.We started with some of the snack items - beware if you don't like spicy, stay away from them, apart from the pecans which were safe but salty. I liked all of them but I am partial to a bit of heat in my food. I do however think they should provide some of these free while you review the men and make your choices. This visit I started with the fish soup (tomato based shellfish stew) and it had the right amount of spicy heat for my liking. For my main I had the duck breast with seasoned puy lentils and parsnip crisps which was lovely. As we were a group I cannot comment on the others choices but there was nothing left on any plate, which i think says it all.The wine was good, a few different ones sampled and also there were a few rather lovely sweets also round the table.Service was good however the food was quite slow when it started to come out. This would be fine for a small group but when others are waiting they need to make this snappier. I think the problem might be that the kitchen is upstairs so they are are the mercy of the speed of the dummy waiter.Good - will be back.

We had a lovely meal here last month (sorry for the time taken to write this review). The menu was well balanced with seemingly enough choice for everyone's taste and a lot of thought into the ingredients and combinations. The resulting flavours and textures were delicious. The wine list was similarly thoughtful and very good value. The waitress was delightful (sorry I cant remember your name). And we were able to say hello to the chef/proprietor (Annette). Thanks again for a lovely evening.

Tried redwoods after reading local reviews for a family meal. Please try surprised by the great internal decor, staff and unusual menu. Menu is small but judging by the starters and mains we had; all excellent. It's a great alternative to a typical steak or fish night, as all the dishes seem to have an extra twist and ours all had a great fresh tasting result. If you like to taste the flavor give it a go.

my partner and I started with the cioppino fish stew which was lovely- i could have had that with bread a lone as a great meal- the tomato based shell fish stew had the right amount of spicy heat especially on a cold night, I had the duck breast with seasoned puy lentils and parsnip crisps - just perfect and my partner had the sea bass with bulgar wheat -so delicate and fresh. We drink a bottle French Malbec IGP Pays D'Hérault, Mont Rocher 2013 - which went very well. my partner finished with the lavender vanilla creme brulee which was gorgeous. I had the cheese board served with chutneys and fruit- presently nicely - went down a treat. My partner had an after dinner Nelson's spiced rum liqueur from Demijohns and I had the Pedro Ximenez, Glotonia, Los Pescados a rich fruit plumy sweet red desert wine. all for about £85 It was a wonderful treat. The staff were delightful hard working friendly and attentive. The atmosphere comfortable not overly trendy and unpretentious. It was our 19th yr anniversary. We will be back way before the next anniversary.

Very casual place for a burger and a pint. Burger was ok, nothing special. I got the classic. I was expecting more flavor from the patty but it was a bit dry. The fries were delcious and crunchy. Otherwise, still had a good meal. Staff was very friendly, welcoming, and kind of enough to provide hot sauce.
