The Dean is a great place to go for food and beverages before or after a tour of the National Mining Museum in Newtongrange. We had their special house pasta and pizza. Both were very tasty and service was quick and friendly. This is a local place, so prices were very reasonable.

On a Monday the premises host a quiz (no entry fee) the atmosphere is to the least convivial The staff today in no particular order were 1st class Laura Ellie Amie and last but not least Sam were excellent not only serving drinks and food but clearing tables and still taking time to converse with customers If you you are traveling on the A7 pop in well worth a visit

Love this place , don't go as often as I would like to go. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Food is very good and a reasonably price.

Came here with my Aunt for lunch. The food was really delicious - succulent chicken in a rich Diane sauce. Service was truly outstanding - our server Mhairi (?) was extremely attentive and caring, even pointing out I could save money if I chose a very similar dish but I stuck with my first choice. Very nice experience all round. Lovely private setting separate from the bar area of the Dean Tavern.

We were at a function recently and really the menu was atrocious. We gave a month's notice that I was vegan and my husband has celiac. The only option we got was gluten free pasta in a tomato sauce and bruschetta for starters. So effectively tomato followed by tomato. In this day and age that's really beyond poor. The excuse being that the chef is Italian so was having to buy in specifically as they don't cater for vegans or celiacs. If a chef can't cater to a vegan or celiac diet then they really aren't up to much. So we both had to eat gluten free and vegan. Whilst others at the function had numerous options but we also paid over £25 per ticket. Really quite shocking and certainly won't return. IKEA have better options.

Had an arranged family gathering after a much thought of Uncles funeral. The tea provided was so nice. The staff were there but left us to chat and help ourselves to the food. And the food was fresh and tasty lovely pizza and the soup was so good warming and delicious. A very professional and comfortable tea.

We visited Dean Tavern Lamp Room for valentine's lunch and it was amazing! Staff very friendly and helpful and food was outstanding! Even my 4 year old fussy eater ate all meal! Kudos to the chef! Totally recommend!

Having frequented the Dean Tavern many times over the years, I met with friends for dinner one night. I wouldn't say the food was exceptional but it was lovely and I wouldn't fault it. The portions were definitely satisfying.

Reading a recent review I would like to say the covid details are prominent everywhere and staff take every precaution to keep the Dean Tavern free from Covid as possible. If this means prompting someone quickly to put their mask on to deter the spread they have ours (and other patrons I'm sure) full backing. Well done team 👍

We had a very lovely meal here today, the food was really good. The staff were really friendly and very welcoming. We stayed for a drink afterwards and felt the COVID measures were easy to follow and were satisfied with our visit. Would highly recommend as the food snd staff were both excellent. Will be coming back again.

I would not recommend going to the dean tavern, the staff are extremely rude, demanding to see your phone to make sure you've checked in, screaming abuse at customers if they stand up without a mask on, they don't bother telling you about the one way system or that you can't go to the bar for your drink, as a first time visitor I didn't know about any of this stuff but being screamed abuse at from the bar I won't be back. tried to complain to the manager who just didn't bother getting back to me. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
