We arrived after walking from Craigellachie. Our walking instructions had said that the owners would pick us up at Ballindalloch Station, but when we phoned we were told that this was no longer the case, and we had to walk another 1.5 miles in the pouring rain. After a struggle to work out what direction the hotel was in, we contacted the owner again who didn't seem to know where we were. We eventually worked it out with google Maps. However the hotel was pleasant and the showers were particularly good. There is a set menu at £30 per head, offering only one choice for each course. We would have preferred to maybe have a choice of 2 menus. The rooms were good and the staff were lovely. We found the drinks to be expensive. Breakfast was nice and the lady who serves breakfast was lovely.

We stayed B& B for three nights to attend a family wedding. The staff were superb. We dined in twice. Angus the chef provided a well balanced and delicious set menu. It was truly “dog friendly” The staff are all dog lovers and committed to treating your best friend as well as they do you. Staffing discreet but friendly and attentive and definitely go over and above their duties. Well done. We hope to return.

A return visit to The Delnashaugh Hotel. A very different experience to our stay last year. The bedrooms and bathrooms have been freshened up. New electric showers, curtains and a generous tea coffee tray. The sitting room, bar and dining room also refurbished. We received notification of the set menus the week before our visit to allow any allergies, likes dislikes etc. to be considered. Dining each evening at 19.30 encouraged a drink in the bar first and a gathering of the diners so created a good atmosphere. The food was excellent, varied, local and I would be confident to stay for a week even though we only had four nights. Breakfast was a highlight with the elegant Joan, who greeted you warmly each morning and even accommodated us for an early flight on our departure. Denise the house manager was friendly and efficient and I felt our DBB rate was very keenly priced. We all look forward to visiting again.

Stopped for a couple of drinks after some walking in the hills. Decided to book a table for dinner as places open off season are few and far-between. The food was fine and on a par with the other places we visited in the area. The food was fresh and there was plenty of it. But what really set The Delnashaugh apart was the friendly owners who not only offered to pick us up from our accommodation but also dropped us off again after our meal. There are lots of clichés about Highland hospitality but this is a real case in point. Would certainly go again.

Stayed at the Delnashaugh Hotel with 9 other family members for a little fishing and general catch up now that restrictions allow. We cannot thank Fiona, Andrew and all the girls enough for their hospitality and making this break one we will remember and are already planning to repeat. The location is stunning and so quiet it is impossible not to completely relax! The food is outstanding and locally sourced, the atmosphere so chilled, none of us wanted to leave! Many thanks again guys, see you again soon!

No real welcome on arrival. Gentleman behind bar seemed not to bothered , but eventually we got some pre dinner drinks. The menu on a “whiteboard” was dumped down in front of us. Girls serving dinner much better. Xmas menu. Unremarkable pate followed by traditional Turkey but with mash potatoes , no roasted ones. Felt a bit like school dinner. Wine list poor, but those they had were too pricey for what they are. Very noisy group next to us , yelling on mobile phones. Very disruptive. This place could be really good but it’s not there yet.

We are fans of the Delnashaugh, we spend a week each year fishing nearby and either eat or drink there on most nights. The staff are friendly and attentive, the atmosphere relaxed and the bar area welcoming. The bar was as you would expect well stocked with whisky but also gin!! Which pleased some of our party. The food quality was high and portion sizes generous. Prices were also reasonable. We will certainly be back next year.

We just had to post a review of this hidden gem in Ballindaloch. After cycling from Aberlour on the Speyside way we got to the end of the bit we were doing. Came across this place about a mile off the track on the main road. A delightful small hotel. Great views. At 4pm the landlord kindly gave us lunch even though it was well past time. The food was fresh and tasty. The landlord also gave us a lift home with bikes as it was pouring down. What kindness and hospitality. We will hope to go back again.

My husband and I are in the area on holiday and popped in for lunch a couple of days ago. He opted for the Ploughman's and says it is the best one he's had for a long time - generous servings of good quality cheeses and ham with assorted salads and pickles. I had the omelette with cheese and ham filling (you can choose your own two fillings); it was beautifully cooked and came with a nice bit of salad. We had sides of garlic bread and chips - and the latter were delicious home cooked fries with skins. We were very impressed - not least with the very reasonable price, the total with drinks coming to under £29. (The drinks are good too - they have the excellent local Cairngorm Brewery "Trade Winds" on draught.) By the way, we visited Ballindalloch Castle a few years ago and would recommend that too.

We were driving back to our lodging near the evening meal time when we saw the sign to this place. It was late and we were hungry, so we decided to stop. We were invited to have a seat in the lobby to look at the menu. The host also mentioned that they were serving roast beef as a special. All four of us ordered the special. We enjoyed spending time by the warm fireplace until being invited to our table. The serving sizes were large and the food was delicious. The staff were very warm and friendly. One couple ordered the Banoffee pie for dessert, and the other couple ordered the Pavlova with fruit. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our desserts, as well. We would highly recommend the Delnashaugh Hotel for a terrific meal.

Found this place last minute looking for a nearby place for lunch. Definitely didn’t disappoint, well located just off the main road from Grantown to Dufftown perched on the edge of the valley of the river Avon. Comfortable fire side seating to peruse the menu and take pre dinner drinks, and shown through to small dining room when food was ready. We had the Cajun chicken (akin to chicken curry), with pilau rice, the roast beef (only one choice of meat available for Sunday roast) where it was great to see mashed potato included, alongside the usual selection of roast veg, and the fish and chips. Portion sizes were generous and food well prepared, although beef was well done rather than rare but in some peoples’ view this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Puddings were equally generously sized, we had meringue, chocolate tart and sticky toffee pudding. Would visit again.

Had read rave reviews of the restaurant so decided to give it a go. Wonderful setting and very relaxed atmosphere but have to say the food did not inspire. Well cooked but very basic. In fact nothing more than mid market pub grub. I went for the burger and was sorely disappointed. A plate turned up with some coleslaw and a few chips. The burger itself was just a burger in a bun with 3 very small onion rings. Nothing else at all. No tomato, or lettuce or anything. A dry burger in a dry bun. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Went to Delnashaugh for lunch with high expectations but was left disappointed massively. First off, I phoned up to ask about their menu because on the website it stated ‘winter 2017 menu’ and there was a early lunch menu and a main menu. I phoned and asked if the menu which was online was the current menu and got a rude blunt reply from the man (the owner) of yes if it’s on the website then it’s the menu. I then politely explained that it’s labeled as winter 2017 and it is no longer winter 2017. I then asked if the only lunch menu they had was the early bird menu and I got another rude reply of ‘yes we have a early lunch menu and OBVIOUSLY yes we have the main menu’. I was getting impatient with the rude owner and explained that I was uncertain if the main menu was for during the day as well as at night. I booked the table for 12:30 on the phone. Got to Delnashaugh and waited about 5 minutes to be greeted by anyone. Eventually got lead into the dining area and it was baltic! It was a cold day and they had no heating on at all, it was ridiculous! The dining area was only about 4 tables so they clearly don’t expect many visitors. Very old fashioned decor, wasn’t appealing at all. Looked at the menu, very basic and not a lot to choose from! Drinks came at 12:50, my brother ordered a coke which was very watered down, more water than coke. We ordered at around 12:50ish, I ordered the chicken and on the menu it doesn’t state that it comes with any sauce but it came with one which was misleading. Nice enough but very basic pub grub but the waiting time was so poor, we were the only table in at the time and our mains took 40 minutes to come, so poor. We ordered a few desserts and we all said that they were just shop bought desserts charged at £6 each and even they took about 15 minutes to come! Went and paid and got greeted by the male owner who clearly has never had any manners taught to him or ever has been told about presenting himself smart rather than dirty jeans and top (very off putting), he told us the price and then just stood there and after a minute we asked if we could pay by card then he snapped at us telling us to hold on then went through the back. He then returned saying that they had undercharged us and he corrected it by adding 3 desserts for an extra £20. Overall, this restaurant is bog standard food, very overpriced, bad location and the worst customer service. This restaurant was the place that my summer work night was intending to be but after my experience there, everyone was put off. The customer service really was so bad and the manner of the owner just cost himself a table of 30. Manners cost nothing. Don’t recommend at all.

We had already phoned ahead to let them know we were on our way. The service we received from John was second to none, he was superb and made a real fuss over our 6 year old Granddaughter. The food was superb and well priced. The cost for 4 adult starters and main courses, a childs main & pudding a bottle of fizz, 2 pints of cider and a few soft drinks came in at a reasonable £120. I have paid a lot more for less elsewhere.I would certainly eat there again and would definitely recommend it. We went to the restaurant for two times. The staff is very friendly, the owner likes to chat with his guests, the restaurant is very comfy, a mixture of lounge, bar and restaurant and the food was delicious. We had salmon, pasta and fish&chips! Very tasty!!

On our tour on the Speyside Way we spent three nights in a nearby B&B. There is not a lot of alternatives for dinner in Ballindalloch, but we came there with increasing delight. Great atmosphere, very friendly and supportive staff, food was excellent every evening. Tastes differ, of course, we'd come back more often if it weren't 1000 miles away...

Popped in for lunch in the bar and service was slow & underwhelming from barman. Landlord speeded things up! Good choice of local gins but no mixer to go with our choice. Not much point recommending it then? Baguettes were offered with limited fillings & when they arrived they were soft rolls and had no sign of any French background. We asked to sit on the sofas but were told in no uncertain manner to sit at a small table instead. All in all we left with a smile on our faces having had an almost Basil Fawlty experience.

We were passing by and arrived at the hotel. We were made very welcome and the ambience with the coal fire burning very inviting .Food was very quickly served and was good pub grub. The view is very nice. The friendly staff certainly warmed you to stay for " another" . We kinda wished we had booked in here , as it just had the " feel " of a nice place. Will book in the future.

We had heard good things about the hotel so as a group of three couples we decided this was the venue. Not quite what my husband and I expected, somewhat small bar with people eating at tables in the bar area. We were then taken through to the dining area. The menu was not extensive but I ordered duck with roast potatoes and vegetablesI did enjoy this meal, my husband couldn't settle on a meal so eventually had fish and chips. The rest of our party enjoyed their meals. The waitress was not overly attentive, we had to ask twice for the wine menu. When the bill arrived it was somewhat of a shock as we felt it was way overpriced for the service and food provided.I would recommend this hotel for a special occasion but be prepared to reach deep into your pocket.

Hi I visited your hotel yesterday as one of a party of twenty. We had a meal there which I must say was excellent, the food was not to be faulted. However the attitude of your barman left a lot to be desired. We wanted to pay our own meals as some had three courses, some had two and some one etc. Also there were drinks to pay for. When a male member of our party informed him of this he refused and said that would be too much bother and it would take all night. He wasn`t really rushed off his feet at the time. Consequently we had to spend another half hour or so sorting it all out ourselves. I don`t think this is service at it`s best or putting the requirements of the customers first and I will not be returning despite the high quality of food served. I think this incident should be brought to the attention of the management as if it was my establishment I would want to know how staff are representing it.I`m sorry I`ve had to use the enquiry form to send this but it seemed the only online means of contacting you.Thank you for your email. I (manager) was the person who took your bill yesterday. I am sorry you felt your needs where not attended to, however I cannot understand how you expected me to take individual bills when your party did not know what food/drinks they had, as you said it took you half an hour between you, all I had to go on was the bill. Changes were made to the original order and extra dishes were also ordered on top of the drinks. At the time as it happens I was rushed as there were other customers and I had other work to attend to.Once again I am sorry you feel you will not return but that is your choice.Thank you for your customNo apology for the inconvenience to us as customers. Very poor attitude.

Having visited this hotel's restaurant several times previously, we decided to drop in for a quick lunch. Previous visits to the Delnashaugh have produced mixed results; one fine evening meal in the restaurant area and another in the bar. This previous evening meal served in the bar we found puzzling, as the food was good but the bar area just seemed to lack for warmth and atmosphere. Our latest lunchtime visit produced equally puzzling results, as the bar still felt cool and atmosphere-less. I appreciate that this was not a busy day (only two other tables were occupied), but I think I can understand why.Initially, we were surprised by the lack of 'lunch' choices. The menu seemed to consist of big, calorific boot filling dishes, roasts, steaks and battered fish, etc. This is good if an active afternoon is planned, possibly followed by a late dinner. We, on the other hand, were having a late lunch after a lazy morning at home, a trip to the shops followed by our casserole (bubbling away in the oven) for dinner, and as such, didn't really want our boots filling with what seemed like a 'dinner' for lunch.Upon enquiring if there was a separate evening menu, our unsmiling waitress confirmed that they were one and the same.In my humble opinion, there should be some lighter meals available for lunch guests; why limit the menu to big platefuls? Would it really be such an inconvenience to the chef to be creative with crispy salad or positive with a panini? Perhaps the chef is above such things...?We decided to stay (first instinct was to head for the car) and compromise with a decent starter and a pudding, as the specials board looked more promising. After ordering our Cullen skink and garlic mushrooms, we settled with our soft drinks to watch the fire roar. Or not. As the fire rapidly sputtered out, having been suffocated with sawed whisky barrel ends, and I started to see how this was becoming a metaphor for our lunch treat, we watched the clock drag itself round to display the fact that we had now been waiting 20 minutes for our lunch to start. I wondered if the mushrooms were being picked fresh. When our food arrived, we tried to make light chat with our waitress about the struggling fire, hoping that she might take the hint and rescue it, and thereby save us from having to don our jackets indoors. This appeared to be a failure as she then disappeared with another staff member into another room and seemed to open an outside door, leaving us to shiver in a newly created draft.Whilst my companion's mushrooms were garlicky and, well, mushroomy, my Cullen skink was very thin in texture with infrequent flakes of fish. Not, in my opinion, a Cullen skink. Our waitress came back to battle with the unco-operative fire towards the end of my dissapointing 'Cloutie dumpling'; alas, too late to warm our toes.I use inverted commas above, as I strongly suspect that this was NOT a cloutie dumpling, more of a christmas pudding type thing owing to the orange zest I tasted within. I won't even waste any time on the 'custard', other than to describe it as warm milk.I would like to point out that the purpose of this review is several-fold; if the proprietors are reading this, can you please sort out a lunch menu and NOT use an evening one (it should be simple to do), can you make the bar area FEEL warmer (put some colour in there even, at the moment its all greys and browns- the dark green tartan on the curtains doesn't count). This is also to point out that the service and the food we have experienced there previously has been excellent, but was not in this instance. We will not be deterred from visiting again.Just maybe not for lunch...

After a day exploring the area the warmth of Delnashaugh was just what we were after. Lots of choices including all of the local whiskeys. The 3 pudding starter was really good as was the steak and ale pie. Local produce and big portions. We moved into the bar for a few of the local whiskeys. Excellent value

We based ourselves on the Glenlivet Estate staying with friends. We took them out for a meal at the Delnashaugh Hotel which was a short drive. The restaurant had only one other table with diners. As there was four of us the table we were seated at was rather small and we asked if we could move to a larger table. A table in another room was found, it was indeed a lot bigger although the room had nobody in it and devoid of atmosphere. We ordered a variety of food and wine. The service was slow and the waitress rather sullen, but once the food arrived it was fine. The same cannot be said of the wine which was some of the roughest I have tasted and both bottles were not house wine nor were they cheap. Would we come back again, probably not.

Great find, right on the bend, if you are going a bit too fast, go past, turn around and Go Back!Lovely bar with dining as well as a separate dining room, lovely staff / management, great mix of clients, locals, fishermen, whiskey trailers and highland lovers. Very warm welcome and a chat if you want. Menu is varied with daily specials with well thought options. quality is high and value good, bar also has a sensible selection of beers to cover most people's preferences. Very near to Ballindalloch Castle, Golf Course and soon to be opened distillery.Accommodation is also available but not used by me, members of my party stayed and were more than happy with the standard, value etc

Was amazed at this tiny wee hotels menu... The choice was amazing and they have a stunning whiskey collection in a tiny wee bar!!! We visited June 2014, the views of the hills were fab. We had a starter of a trio of puddings, haggis, white pudding and black pudding, all produced by local butcher served on a drambuie sauce garnished with deep fried kale - local produce at its best and cooked to perfection. For my main I had the steak n ale pie, a rich gravy with hearty chunks of tender steak served with chips and a selection of seasonal veg, again locally grown. Puff pastry I would normally put to the side, I amazed myself at eating half of it. My partner had the haddock and chips. The batter was light and crisp and the fish cooked well but not over done. The place was very busy, I would not just turn up and expect to be seated... Booking is advisable. Staff were fab, the owner came to check our food was fine and answered our questions on produce sources etc. looking forward to trying a Sunday lunch next time I am in the area... Highly recommended venue in a fantastic location. The only thing I would say could be improved with this meal is to make home made chips rather than frozen but not a big deal... Still get full marks with the frozen chips...

We had a really nice evening at the 'Shaugh - decent and straightforward food, reasonably priced, and a nice atmosphere (the refurb has improved it no end, and there's a good mix of locals, ghillies, tourists and fishing folk). Outdoor seating has fantastic views of the Spey valley and Glenlivet. Our only niggle was the waiting staff - neither seemed to know the basic etiquette of serving ladies first, and the waitress has to be the clumsiest in the trade - she slammed plates down (onto slate placemats), managed to knock a glass with the bottom of a plate, and generally lacked any finesse! They were pleasant enough, just in need a little training in the art of waiting at table!Booking recommended as tables are limited, and despite the plate handling (!) we will definitely revisit.

Just back from having our second visit since it changed owners, was very disappointed again, had to wait an eternity to get our food, simple stuff, prawn cocktails and steaks, prawn cocktail was average, my steak was supposed to be well done not cremated and the chips were still raw, my daughter had scampi and her beans were cold, asked to speak to chef and his excuse was he had a trainee, that's no excuse, always like to give places a second chance and they blew it

The new owners have clearly worked hard at the Delnashaugh, and it has paid off as it has improved so much since the last time we were here. Reasonably priced and lovely food, particularly the venison, which was cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, both in the bar and on the restaurant side of things, and all in a beautiful setting. I'm sure that the next time we're up we'll stop by again!

Ate here for the first time after the new owners took over, we were made welcome when entering the lovely lounge bar where we sat with a drink while looking through the wide selection of dishes on the menu, something for all tastes. We were ushered into the small cozy dining room & presented with our starters, we all had 3 courses & the presentation of them was superb. The prices were so reasonable & the staff a joy so will be returning in the near future. There are very few good eateries in this area, but id say this is one of the best now.

One of the highlights during the spey side walk was our diner at Delnaushaugh Inn.As most of the Belgian citizens, we have our preconceived opinion about the Scottish cuisine. Kevin surprised us with the total experience he gave us that evening.Beginning with the kind hospitality in a very nice interior of the Delnaushaugh Inn, we were amazed by his suggestions of the scottish Gins, the main dish and desserts. My son and I have tasted the Caorun Gin tonic. Main dishes were the T-bone steak and the shank of lamb.If by any change that we are in the neighbourhood, we certainly make a detour to visit the Delnashaugh Inn again.

Went last night and ordered large haddock supper single scampi two chips cheese curry sauce. Also a pickled onion. Waiting in queue the portions of food looked great getting boxed up for customers. Number 26 was called and we happily headed off to enjoy. Disaster! One not very large Haddock Supper! NO Scampi...another small single fish? NO pickled onion but a gherkin! Where did you guys get it wrong? Did you not understand Scottish? Or is it just another case of ripping off the tourist?

Our B&B host recommended the place so we give it a try. We started with the locally famous cullen skink that was one of the best we had in Scotland. My wife took the Scottish chicken and I went for the deep-fried Scottish prawns. Both were tasty and fine. Portions were generous so we skipped the dessert. Nice settings, friendly staff , reasonable prices.

I bought lunch here today and really wish I hadn’t bothered, the soup was supposed to be cream of mushroom but was anything but creamy. It was this with really large pieces of mushroom which were difficult to eat with a spoon. The cheese scone was a strange colour and had a really weird taste. It used to be a great place to eat but was sold recently and is to be avoided. I will not return!
