The Station in Highland

We held a very special event at the Station Hotel at the time of my dad's funeral in January, with a private dinner for around 45 family and friends. We also had many guests staying or eating at the Station Hotel in connection with family visits or the funeral. Jill and her team did an exceptional job, accommodating everyone (and their tastes) despite a blizzard raging outside and many last minute changes. The event management was so personal and supportive, despite the sad circumstances, and we felt really taken care of. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. All attendees were impressed and grateful. We could not praise the Hotel, the meal or the kindness and professionalism of the staff more highly. Thank you so much.

Lovely meal last night. The dining room was so busy but great atmosphere. New staff in training and junior chef but service was quick and staff very friendly and professional.

A one night stop on our Highlands tour. The hotel was very clean and maintained. It is ideally positioned and relatively quiet for being on the high street. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was the best we had on our tour.

Have not visited the restaurant for a while and must say it’s gone from good to outstanding.all staff were super efficient, caring and helpful.nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely, tried a meat pizza, superb. Portions are ample, in fact took a few slices home. Wife loved her steak pie and a happy wife is a happy life! Will definitely return sooner ,rather than later,good value for money and quality food. Give it a try, it’s great

Booked this for a 2 night stay and was not disappointed. From first entering the hotel till leaving the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and very reasonable and rooms very comfortable. As I say all the staff were great but we would like to give a special mention to Graham who was extremely helpful and treat us like friends

We(six of us) went for an evening meal at The Station Hotel after booking our table. There was a very large group celebrating a birthday, so we did have a bit of a wait for our food; but the owner was very apologetic. The food when it arrived was excellent, with good portions. Just what you hope for when out for a meal when on holiday. Most of us had the homemade cheesecake for desert; which was probably the best cheesecake I've ever had. All the staff were very friendly, as was the owner; and service was excellent. If you're visiting Alness, I would highly recommend you visit The Station Hotel for a meal and a drink.

We booked a table here for dinner . There was a full varied menu, including a list of specials. The food was excellent. The staff were very welcoming.

Excellent meal & great service. The dining room was buzzing with people. Such a lovely atmosphere and the food was so delicious and well presented.

On the plus side the bar & waiting staff were professional and attentive. The food was excellent. However, on arrival payment in full was requested rather than check out. Once in the rooms, we understood why! The room decor was dated, the carpets needed a deep clean/replacent in corridors and rooms. The cleanliness was not an acceptable level. In one of the rooms the main lights were not working and despite reporting this to the duty male manager, on a daily basis, he showed very little interest and this was not resolved during our 5 day stay. Not a place we would want to return you.

Lovely big room and bathroom. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Food is excellent. Nice outdoor seating area for drinks. Will definitely return. Thank you for a really lovely stay☺️

We were struggling to find somewhere serving a reasonable menu for dinner when we popped into the Station. It turned out to be one of the best meals of our holiday. Wonderful favours, generous portions and excellent service. I highly recommend the Cullen Skink to start and the duck breast main.

Lovely, warm friendly and not intrusive. Needs were catered for. Excellent cuisine, reasonable prices.

Hotel rooms are nice with updated furnishings. Restaurant staff are very polite and food is delicious! Would stay again even if not for business.

Spent two nights at this property (£79 per night for an economy twin room). We had booked for hotel but on arrival we were accommodated in a different property, Station House, a very plain building across from the hotel. The room was very small, a single room being let as a double. No wardrobe, no suitable drawer space, nowhere to put our suitcases without either tripping over them or blocking the exit from our room. We were horrified to find that we were locked in the property on the first night and then locked out of it on the second evening when we arrived back at 9pm. The staff who released us and let us in seemed aware of the problem, which seemed to be caused by one of our keys being faulty. Very noisy from 6am, we suspect the building was being used for staff quarters or workers accommodation. There seemed to be a general lack of communication and customer care at this property, very overpriced too, really not fit for purpose. Would advise checking whether you will be in main hotel and whether your room will have the normal wardrobe, drawers etc that is normal in other accommodation.

We visited the stretch tent garden last night and it was just fantastic to be out and yes it might have been cold (can someone tell the weather man this is May) but with jackets, scarves and blankets it was freedom (in my best Mel Gibson voice :-)) and we had an absolutely fantastic night. The service and staff were excellent and the food was just fantastic. I had the chicken sizzling fajita's which were just delicious and so well served considering the restrictions. Mrs Jock as well as my BIL and his wide went for the cajun chicken burger and they all loved their food.A big thanks to all the team at The Station for making our first steps to freeeeeedddoooooooom such a fantastic night and we will definitely be back.

Stayed hear many times and the food great and has never disappointed and nothing is ever a problem for the staff that are so helpful

Half way round a !tour" we stopped to stretch our legs and came across the inviting Station... glad we did. Very friendly staff, well thought out processes, carefully distanced and great food... ok we only had Carrot Coriander but it was not from a packet, fresh bread and ample volume.Significant Value

We chose the Station Hotel following a recommendation and because it was the N1 best place to eat in Alness. If that is the beat we then we won’t be eating in Alness again!It’s not a posh place and it doesn’t attempt to be. We had been told it did good basic meals which after a long drive is exactly what we wanted. However, it just did not deliver. My husband had a chicken burger which was super salty whilst I had a pie which really bland. On top of that the waitress served our drinks by holding the glass right at the top. I don’t really appreciate it normally however with COVID it’s the last thing I want! Would not return and would not recommend.

Stayed in the station hotel recently for two nights while working in Invergordon, the room was very good , clean and spacious. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful , very professional and friendly. Will definitely stay here again.

Went in and were lucky to get a table for Sunday lunch. Staff were delightful and roast beef for main was just heavenly. Probably best beef I have had in a very long time. Deserts were also fabulous. Staff make a place like this and they were great. And yes I started before taking photo.

Checked out the menu and decided on traditional burgers x2 for me and my wife. Lovely succulent burgers on lightly toasted buns with 2 home made onion rings side salad with potato salad and coleslaw and very nice crispy proper skin on chips. Got a massive teapot of tea for 2. £27 for the lot including service with a smile. Can't go wrong try it you'll like it. Won't hesitate to go again when in alness.

Went a couple of times to this attractive place for evening meal and found the staff friendly. The meat is locally sourced and my steak was very good both times. Good place for your evening meal if you are in Alness.

The title says it all, what else do you need.Hot meals on hot plates, it's simple, as it improves the taste immensely

Last Sunday we decided to visit the Station Hotel for the Sunday lunch menu and WOW, Was it good! :)The Creamy Garlic mushrooms are so tasty which was followed by Lemon Butter Chicken.The service was very quick, the food amazing and the staff are so friendly.We'll be back soon!

Was on a lunch date with a friend and decided to try the station hotel in alness after hearing such good reviews.On arrival we had a very friendly welcome from the waitress who showed us our seats and took our drinks order.They have a very varied menu with lots to choose from. My friend ordered the cajun chicken and cheese panini which came with a lovely big salad and coleslaw. My friend really enjoyed it. I had the cajun chicken burger which was topped with bacon and cheese which came with salad, chips and coleslaw. It was delicious.Thank you to the chefs for such a lovely meal that we both really enjoyed.We were far to full to try there lovely selections of desserts. But we will definitely be back again very soon to try some more delicious food. If you enjoy good food I would highly recommend The station hotel in alness.

Delicious food .. great service ! Live the soup the roast beef everything’s delicious! Can’t wait to try dessert one day ! Even let me take a takeout out box for my leftovers which I picked at and gave rest too the boyfriend ! Highly recommended and great Christmas atmosphere !

On a recent trip to Alness I was looking for somewhere to have a cup of tea and something to eat. I popped into The Station and asked if they did gluten free options and was delighted to discover they did. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly if they tried. My meal was served quickly and the ladies on duty had lovely smiles for the customers the whole time. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Very good food very reasonable prices. Extremely pleasant staff and a lovely atmosphere. I will most definitely be back for another visit

We'd been on a distillery tour nr Tain and were after some lunch..ok so it was November but all the same expected to find somewhere decent..were delighted to come across The Station Hotel very much open...offering a warm and friendly welcome, prompt service, excellent choice of food...we had fish & chips which were very good. Super to find Matthew Algie coffee being served. Good prices too. They were doing a good lunch trade which I think speaks volumes. Would recommend and call again if in area.

Over the last few years we have visited the restaurant several times a year as a family and as a couple. Service is always friendly and cheerful, a good selection on the menu and daily specials board.

We arrived just as good service had stopped, but they kindly agreed to serve us anyway - much appreciated. Food was good and plentiful, just what we needed after walking all day. There was a large group in the restaurant which added to the atmosphere. We’d happily eat here again.

Our group of 10 came in late and we were seated immediately with welcoming smiles. The staff was fantastic and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Several in our group ate there more than once and found the same service each time.

If you read my previous post regarding this hotel you may have avoided going.

We have been staying here and using the restaurant for three nights and everything has been perfect. We can not recommend it highly enough. The hotel itself has a wonderful character and is extremely well maintained. The food at breakfast, lunch and dinner is superb, and the staff are excellent. We had planned to stay in Inverness, but could not find suitable accommodation for all 3 nights, so started to look at places nearby. How lucky we were to find The Station. We will be back!! Also Alness is an absolutely charming town, beautifully kept, and everyone is so friendly. If you are a Parkrun enthusiast, there is a run in Crawl Park just off the main street. Beautiful scenery en route, and a really friendly group of people.

Typisch britisches Restaurant/ Pub. Wir hatten das Sonntagsmenü, Braten mit Gemüse, Kartoffeln und Yorkshire Pudding. Letzteres schmeckte ganz gut. Beim Braten und beim Gemüse mussten wir leider die völlige Abwesenheit von Gewürzen bzw. Salz feststellen, zum davonlaufen....

we stopped at this lovely hotel for a coffee and a scone on our way to Dornoch. The owner and staff were lovely and friendly. we will be back someday

After spending a lot of time in the car over the previous 2 days ( 650 miles ) and with 200 to do today a nice lunch was much required.

Took my daughters out as a birthday treat Food was great, staff very attentive and the atmosphere perfect for us to talk and laugh.

Have been here a few times now and has been fantastic every time. Good portions and good prices and the staff are absolutely lovely. Great with kids and people with additional needs.

We were staying just down the road in Evanton, and were struggling to find somewhere to eat. We passed this place, saw the sign and did a u-turn. So glad we did! It was quite quiet, and we sat in the window by the main road. Service was very friendly and quick. Soup and pate, followed by sausage and mash and a burger, with cheesecake and waffles for dessert. All so tasty! For quick and easy "pubish" food, I cannot recommend this place enough, and would not hesitate to pay a return visit. Go and try this little gem.

Had a meal for our sons 21st. The dressed the table and added all the extras for me. Service was as fab as ever we have never had bad service here. Staff are attentive and friendly. Food as usual was lovely and even brought out the dam wall lit including plates. Highly recommended. My parents stayed in the hotel and said the service in that area was brilliant too. Room cleaned whilst having breakfast.

Good bar...loved the Chicken Fajitas...good service ...fair price. Car park out back. Good noodle dish as well.

We used the Sandwich Shack for a business Lunch delivered to the Office.

Parked the car in the car park at the rear of the pub, there is a large dining area and a good selection of food is available, l had the 'roast of the day' which was pork, the meat, veg and potatoes came in a huge Yorkshire pudding, there was loads of pork, for the price l thought it was very good value.

With just having my 70+ birthday, and my family several hundred miles away in London, I decide that I didn't want to make yet another meal just for myself, so having a very nice and kind younger neighbour, who keeps an eye on me, I decided to take her and her children down to the Station Hotel for the Sunday Carvery Lunch.

You will never leave this place hungry, the friendliness of the staff makes one feel very relaxed.

We went out for a meal with family at Halloween and left absolutely stuffed. Food was good although we shouldn't have had starters as they were too big to allow us to finish our mains. Staff are friendly and helpful and food is good. Well worth a visit.

I have just had a one night stay in this lovely friendly hotel in the heart of Alness. I had a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Dinner was good I had the chicken starter as main course, ample portion and tasty. Slept like a log very comfy bed. Didn't have a cooked breakfast as I was still full from dinner, but it certainly looked good. Will definitely come back. Being on my own I felt safe and secure.

Having an old ex-RAF pal come to stay with me for a holiday saw me having to sometimes cook for him, but one Sunday I decided I would take him to the Station Hotel, as I have had several meals there, and he was amazed at the Carvery Meal we had to choose from.

He estado yendo a la estación por un largo tiempo y siempre fue muy buena, pero cuando abrieron el Sandwich Shack ha sido el pináculo de mi hora del almuerzo. Desde rollos de tocino patatas asadas puedes conseguir todo. Las mujeres que son excelentes y muy acogedor y amable, me niego a ir a ningún otro sitio para mi almuerzo de ahora. Debido a lo lleno que está el tiempo de espera puede variar pero si pedido la comida está siempre listo para ir al más alto nivel. Es absolutamente perfecto.

Mi esposa y yo nos detuvimos aquí para comer algo después de nuestra excursión whisky en Dalmore. La comida y el servicio fueron buenos para su precio y la camarera era sonriente y atento. Buena comida honesta.

Went here with a couple of colleagues from work for dinner. I had the steak pie, big portion, but pretty bland. One of my colleagues couldn't eat the steak, it was so gristly. We mentioned it to the staff and they didn't even apologise.

Just been to The Station and had a delicious leek and potato soup and baked potato with haggis absolutely mouth watering ...hope to come again !

me and my husband took my son, his new bride and our 5 month old grandson, along with 6 other family members out for dinner tonight at the station. the place was absolutely freezing cold, we asked the staff on 3 different occasions to put the heating up or even on!!!!!! we actually had to put the baby back in the pram because it was too cold for him. when the main meals arrived, my niece could not even eat the lamb, it was tough, full of fat and the yorkshires were full of grease, my lamb was disgusting, i had to ask for mint sauce. when my sister asked for more gravy the girl brought out a pyrex jug full of gravy, ridiculous!!!! my son had lasagne and it was so dried out, it looked like it was curling at the edges, absolutely shocking. i only get the chance to visit my family on family occasions, i WILL NOT be visiting the station again

This is a pleasant place to eat with a varied menu at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly, but under pressure at times. However, will gladly return!

Went to the Station for lunch, found it a smart place which has just been refurbished. had a nice meal at a reasonable price, warm and friendly staff.

A great meal. I had a beautiful steak. My family had stir fries, steak pie, chicken nuggets. All very filling

Called in to what looked a nice place to eat 2 meals for a fiver couldn't complain but seemed the deep fat fryer was the main cooking method even for the gammon egg and chips ordered 2 kids meals chicken fillets chips and veg please avoid my five year old actually choked on the chicken as it was so tuff after it was deep fat fried in batter not very nice at all when we complained nothing was done the food came with Ice cream which we never got after we complained the bar maid scuttled off and ignored us ... avoid like the plague children's meals cost a fiver each the chips where the only edible thing hope they read these reviews and give children less hazardous food

The food has much improved, I've been several times this year for lunch and dinner and I've not been disappointed yet, love the steak pie and haggis bites as a starter are stunning

Nice, clean. Really nice beer garden that is open until 10:00 pm. They have a Station beer which is quite tasty as well!I had the prawn salad and it was fresh with sides of fresh fruit and Cole slaw. My only issue is way too much Rose Marie sauce. And the Cole slaw has way too much mayo. Other than that it was good and the service was good. There was also a flyer announcing a band playing here Saturday July 30th, 2016.

My Nieces 18th Birthday Meal. Rubbish food, the worst Steak Pie I have ever eaten full of tomato puree and bay leaves, poor seating arrangement, got left sitting in the bar with the locals. Defo not going back.

I had a fantastic large room with a spacious bathroom, with double shower and full bath. Food was well priced and plenty with a good selection. Breakfast is a choice of continental or cooked either were fine. Hotel staff very friendly and knowledgable. A very good comfortable nights sleep. Overall a very pleasant stay.

We have been twice now for breakfast. The first time, the food was good but the see ice let it down slightly. The girl who was on didn't come over to check on us at all. She didn't explain where to get milk etc...However, we went back recently, and were served by Kayleigh. She was the total opposite. She was fantastic from start to finish. She told us that the cooked breakfast was all you could eat but it was cooked fresh to order instead of a buffet, which was nice! She explained where to get milk for the coffee etc..The breakfast itself was fab! A massive plateful! I didn't eat until evening, I was so full! The breakfast was a good price too for what you get.

I took my partner out for a Sunday Lunch and found that the carvery in the Station Hotel not only saved me having to cook our Sunday roast but was excellent value for money, plus the chef served out quite a large portion of meat before we then loaded our plates with the rest of the meal.This hotel has certainly earned my custom after it was one of the places where I'd once eaten and didn't want to try again until someone told me the owners had changed, so now the place is properly run and the staff very friendly.

Very impressed with my Prawn salad this evening very fresh and nicely presented with prawns assorted salad items and fruit Apple orange lemon and strawberriesCould do with more support of local eating out as it's very nice and lovely young polish lady serving behind the bar who is always happy to speak.My husband also loves the dry gate traditional beer

Just been for an all you can eat breakfast in the Station Hotel.The welcome was very friendly.Breakfast was served in the Lounge and bar area. your choice of eggs are cooked to order and your choice of toast made fresh.Fruit juice and cereals with Croissants and a large selection of freshly made well cooked hot food, topped off with a cafetiere of coffee made this excellent value for money. 10 out 10.

Restaurante muito bem organizado e com uma ótima estrutura, visual de dar gosto, funcionários simpáticos e atendem com bastante eficiência, comidas deliciosas,local de fácil acesso, eu amei e recomendo.

After been given the menu I was then seen by someone 30 minutes later to be asked if I was ready to order yet....?!Ordered Haggis Balls for starters and the breaded Haddock for main, nice and simple... Or so I thought.After over hearing the couple next to me complaining that they were still waiting for their soup starter 45minutes later, I knew I was in for the long haul. It then took a further 30minutes for the haggis balls which were more long the lines of battered ice cubes. The haddock came out promptly and can't moan about the time... But... It was also cold in the middle and very watery. Shame as its a nice looking building just struggle with more than 5 guests.

The room in the bar was like a gentlemans club. Clean, comfortable. Only 2 drawbacks, noisy MFR and slow food. Menu was excellent prices superb friendly staff food was beyond wonderful

We had a really good family dinner here. The starter of Chicken Goujons was the best I have had and a good portion. The other starters were also good. Service excellent. In fact everybody enjoyed their dinner. The mains very nice and the dessert was a really big portion of cheesecake. Will certainly be back.

Most excellent place for food, music, lively bar staff (Podeye)esp, and been refurbished to a high standard. All in all a great family oriented pub, a little quiet but deserves more customers.

Went here as a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon. The food was perfect had a great choice of both carvery alternative meals. The service was great and plenty for two young children to eat (8year old and 1 year old) went out of their way to accommodate the kids needs. Will definitely be back for more. Especially the desserts ;-)

My friends and I came here a month or so ago to try it out. We sat down and waited about 15 minutes for the menu, the waitress and bar lady were sitting talking to eachother and we seemed like an inconvenience to them. My friend and I ordered the nachos which were really disappointing, quite obviously from a packet and they were freezing. However my other friend had the mushroom soup and it was amazing! We then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes for the starter plates to be taken back in. The main meal finally came - I had the steak pie and it was ok but could have been warmer. Overall it was pretty bad and a waste of our money.

Went for the Carvery on Sunday just passed, had prawn cocktail for a starter, which was a plate full in itself, then the roast pork for my main, incredible. The choice of veg was lovely and the home made Yorkshire puddings were spot on, (I'd know, being from Yorkshire) along with the roast potatoes it made for a very enjoyable meal. For dessert I had the banoffee pie, which was easily one of the best I've ever had, the biscuit base was perfect, much better than Pastry than you often get! Will most definitely return there again!

My Partner and i went for the Cavery lunch at the Station Hotel in Alness.I went for the 3 course. Tomato & Basil soup, hot and delicious.A cross of lamb and beef for the main, a bit of both. The lamb was scrumptious and went down fast. The beef was equally good, the roast and potatoes cooked perfectly.I enjoyed the hot chocolate cake and ice cream and this was the perfect way to end the meal.The staff were warm and friendly, and attentive. The restaurant was warm in temperature and not drafty.A perfect Sunday lunch /dinner.Well worth a visit.We'll be returning again...and again..and again... (you get the picture )If anyone is wondering they do the cavery from 12 - 4pm on a Sunday

We had a few hours to kill in Alness, and were looking for a place to eat, and we stumbled upon this place. The building itself is very nice, and impressive. When we went in the decor was nice, and warm also. We ordered a different meal each, and the food quality was great, and the quantity was substantial for not a huge cost.The staff could have been a bit more friendly, but, given the nice sourroundings, the good reasonably priced food, I will give this place a very good review for the first one. Finally, the bar was also nice, and well priced also. A recommended stop over for sure.
