This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

We started to go back to the classroom after a break of about a year, we had two good visits recently but this time we discovered they had changed the menu not for the better, the starter main and dessert I enjoyed all had been deleted from the menu, so both of us had fish and chips they were both poor frankly, thick batter with little fish, the pea purée was strange the peas didn’t seem cooked and tasted weird. They had live music in a very small venue nice try but didn’t work. Staff are attentive and pleasant. They had patatas brava as a starter fried potatoes in a hot sauce Spanish tapas. Cried potatoes for a starter a strange one.

Disappointing. Didn't have the burger one of us wanted initially (pork and chorizo) so opted for the black pudding and haggis one instead... Cheek to describe it as anything but a plain burger. Not a hint of haggis or black pudding, and a whiff of a salad leaf on it. Better burger from McDonald's which is a shame. Chips pretty tasteless, though a nice texture. Also didn't have the dessert I had wanted either. Mediocre at best. Server could have told us what wasn't available from the menu at the start, but for both main and dessert they waited until we had decided what we wanted and asked for, to then be disappointed not to be able to get first choice when the kitchen told them they had none left. Poor service in that regard. Wish we had spent our money elsewhere.

The menu is uninspired with very little in the way of vegan / plant based food unless you love vegan cheese. We had to send our meals back (the were comped) as they were dripping with oil and the Mac and cheese tasted like rice pudding. The meals were comped with no fuss. Big let down since last time we were there.

Lovely place in Nairn, friendly staff. We ordered a simple steak each, Medium rare with a small side salad and a bottle of red wine. When the food came it was a mountain of food. Somehow they thought we'd ordered a steak platter each !!One plate would easily feed two people so we had enough food for four people! Plus a large mixed salad and a large Caesar salad (no chicken but anchovies?) this was after the seasonal veg was wrongly delivered. It did spoil the evening as we were both looking forward to a simple steak and a glass of decent red wine. It was a complete mess. The platter is a large salad with cheesy chips and chunks of steak all mixed together on a large wooden plate .I did say this was not what we'd ordered but was told that's how the steak is served. So we went ahead with it , but could barely eat half of it . And it really wasn't what we ordered or wanted. We did have a chat ,there was an apology of sorts and the bill was made out for what we actually ordered. Overall very very disappointed.

Food, service and atmosphere are all up there. The menu is typical for a bistro with all the classics being present. Prices are affordable and pretty good value, on par with what you'd expect today in the wider UK. Staff were lovely, very down to earth and easy to talk to. I had booked and would recommend that you book also because there aren't many other restaurants in the area so it tends to be pretty busy. This made my visit to Nairn worthwhile as I wasn't a big fan of the rocky beach or the town centre to be honest. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!

Visited 07/09/24..A lovely quaint bistro, well set out and clean and tidy.. We (my brother and I) were greeted with a smile by a young lady who was very welcoming and friendly..We had to wait a little bit for food but that was our fault for being in so early and food (main meals) didn't start until 12 (which we were made aware of) food came out soon after 12 and was lovely molten bowl of macaroni cheese cheesy goodness.. I was warned by the server lady it was very warm she wasn't wrong 😂..All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful it has lovely food and a good choice of drinks too.. Never been to the classroom bistro or Nairn before (we were only through to visit Nairn county) would love to come back and visit the classroom and next time stay a bit longer..

Booked dinner on Saturday 7th September for 4 people, service was terrible from start to finish, ordered drinks, vodka and coke but only got glass of coke when we complained the waiter adviced they forgot to put the vodka in , burgers were ordered and the meat was red under cooked so spoke to the manager who explained burger should never have been served raw, serving raw meats has the potential to be very dangerous! Felt staff were very inexperienced, We will not be returning and would urge anyone thinking about booking here seriously consider it,

Met the manager on entry….told us no tables but to try again later and only if we were lucky! Said, could we buy a drink and wait… told we could not. Although many people were drinking separately from the food tables. Outside many tables free….not cold …it’s August! Not sure why we were treated in this way because we went by about half hour later and many tables were empty? Face didn’t fit ? Clothes not trendy enough? English accent? Probably the blood trail leading down the High Street had him worried a couple of 70’s might just kick off!

The burgers were good, but just a bit dry - none of the opulence in the pictures. The just too eoon burger belongs - not enough sauces, not enough lettuce, onions, cucumber - in one the tomato has everything. missing. All patties deserve special praise for this, great quality! And: the pepper sauce that was ordered and paid for was ripped out, it was sensationally good! The Caesars salad didn't quite live up to expectations either, but hey, compared to what else there is in Nairn, it's certainly one of the best options for a decent dinner.

During our stay in town we sat in at the classroom for lunch once and supper twice. The food was fantastic 2/3 times. The third time the bun of the burger was stale and didn’t have any dressing on it, making the burger really dry. However, the server did get us additional condiments when we asked. We also got a Caesar salad that had way too much dressing. For anyone ordering this salad, I’d recommend asking for the dressing on the side. Despite these things, the rest of the meals we had were tasty. The staff were friendly and provided good service. For the issue with the burger, our server happily gave us a discount on the meal as an apology which was much appreciated. Overall we enjoyed our experiences at the Classroom and would recommend to others.

Had mussels for starters, the lamb burger for main and a cocktail for dessert, all very nice, especially the sauce and bread for the mussels. Only thing I'd knock is it seemed like the staff were really overworked. They were all friendly and professional, can't fault them at all, but my drink arrived after my starter and the waiter said the bar was backed up because there was only one person working on it. When I arrived at the time I booked, the person that greeted me said she still need to clean the table too, not a problem but she seemed a little stressed about it. Maybe the business could put one or two more staff on to improve the experience for the customer and to save the rest of your staff a little stress, they were all great and deserve to be well supported!

There is a lot to like about this place, the food is very good but I must say I thought the starters and puddings were not great value for money, the mains were though. Great cocktails and a good wine list with prices you would expect. Unfortunately we were put onto a small table close to the toilets door and although they are upstairs there was a smell of cleaning products. The disabled toilet was not upstairs or locked so people were using it a fair bit and they wasn't a great experience. The place was busy and the staff handled it very well, it's a bustling place so not for a quiet romantic meal, at least not where we sat which is also close to the bar.

Mac 'n' cheese was bland, as were the fries it came with. Mixed salad wasn't good (made of arugula? Not mixed). Everything else was decent to mediocre. Dessert was questionable— eton mess came with the rhubarb as whole sticks, rather than a compote? Was also not very flavourful, aside from vaguely sweet (meringue was broken up, rather than whole?). Drinks were good (though mocktail was very over-iced), service was lovely.

Came in here passing on the way to Inverness. Outside looked unique and nice so we went in. Firstly met by staff and felt judged that we didn't book a table. Once seen to a table, I ordered the battered haggis balls , which at £7 were in the expensive side for 3. When they arrived they were 90% oats, 10% haggis. Never seen this before and very upset to have paid so much for oats. Burger and chips were nice but if I were to guess burger was grilled ahead of time and then kept warm / heated up in the over later to serve which led to a lack of that flames grilled taste. For £17 I would expect to have chosen how I wanted my burger cooked but alas not. Would not attend again.

Service was very slow and inefficient. Multiple times we had to get up and go get a waiter. We were left sitting with plates stacked around us, we had to start moving them to the window sill and they still weren't cleared. 15 minutes AFTER I ordered they came back to say neither vegan burger on the menu was actually available and offered me what turned out to be a pathetic breaded, mushed vegetable patty instead (like the cheapest ones you'd get from Iceland) with a laughable two tiny bits of onion as garnish. Two people pushed their meat mains away while two others were bland, mediocre but passable. The vegan options are basic (curry, mac & cheese), the only decent thing being the £8 for 3 arancini balls. Beer menu is particularly bland but I needed something to pass the long wait between courses. Once dragged over by the ear at the end the waiter admitted that he hadn't given us good service but did nothing more to fix it. It was a stressful and unpleasant dinner with children that we eventually just sent home early because everything was so slow. Can't believe the 4.5 star reviews for basically expensive Wetherspoons fare while the service is this dreadful.

We booked into your restaurant for our Hogmanay meal with friends our food was lovely but service was extremely poor , the waitresses / waiters were all buzzing around but getting nowhere tables were getting wrong orders, getting desserts before main course, having to wait for drinks orders , we got a round of drink and a vodka and Diet Coke served in what I can only describe as a jam jar wasn’t the best to be drinking out of in a restaurant..after having our meal we were sitting enjoying our drink with the intention of staying for the evening to see in the New Year and listening to the music, but at 9pm we were asked to leave our table as someone else was waiting to sit on it. After spending £250 this is really not the service or the experience we expected for the Hogmanay party that you had advertised. It was clear in the classroom that there was a negative atmosphere due to tables receiving wrong or no orders. It is extremely doubtful we will return here. .

Battle of the Mushy Peas. We arrived and got a seat along with a few different menus. The waitress noticed the specials menu was wrong and changed it. My husband picked items from his menu to discover that this menu was wrong too. Ok so I ordered fish and chips without the mushy peas. The waitress offered normal peas if not available happy to go without. She came back and offered a salad instead. I was happy with that, then she returned and told me they didn't have enough salad and would I take a mix of salad and broccoli. 'That's fine' I said. Then she returned again insisting that her chef said I had to try the mush peas. I explained that I don't like mushy peas. I was now getting irritated. She came back again and said if I want peas the chef will get me peas. This was now ridiculous and unwarranted. Food eventually arrived. It was a nice piece of cod, but had not been seasoned. Chips came in one of those small metal fryers on your plate, the tarter sauce in a dish and peas in another dish all on the one plate. Apart from it looking ridiculous it was very outdated We had our food and just wanted to pay and leave. I had my coat on and the waitress approached me asking me if I wanted desert. I said I have my coat on!!!! Glad to get out of the place.

The starter of prawn cocktail ok but water at bottom of large whisky glass they served it in. They are taking expensive prices for low standard food to be honest

We've enjoyed a couple of very enjoyable visits here, with a good choice of tasty food on the menu. Being dog friendly is also a welcome attraction.

Just want to give a massive thank you to Laura and the two new members of staff for looking after us. Was a busy lunch time and we weren't the easiest of customers but Laura made our visit amazing from start to finish. A very warm and happy welcome from a new member of staff (gentleman with the glasses) was much appreciated and he did a fantastic job of looking after us also. Laura is fantastic at what she does, and does everything with a glowing smile. An absolute asset to your team.

Myself, my wife and our faithful 2yr old Border Collie ate here on the evening of Friday 17th November 2023 … great food and a good atmosphere and the staff were superb. Top marks to Laura, Josh and Georgia - who looked after us all …

Staff were pleasant. Nice setting and clean. Food however was average, and in my limited opinion, overpriced. £17 is a fair price for a fair size serving, especially if mouth watering. But £17 for what is essentially a bland child’s portion of fish and chips, in a coastal area, is over priced.

Really disappointing visit this week with a couple of friends. We used to live locally and would visit often. Now moved away so thought we’d come back and expected the same amazing food. Service was slow and our plates were not cleared between services of mains and desserts. There were only 3-4 other tables in with 2 bar/waiting staff so not over run. They were polite but as I’ve said slow. The carbonara was average but the cheesecake was almost frozen in the middle still and was tasteless. The menu was the first sign of possible change of owner. Now reading other reviews it’s clear that’s not done their reputation, quality and service any favours. The offer at the top was 2 courses for £15 or £19 depending on the time you went which was fine. When we came to pay they explained that it was only for starter and main not main dessert as was shocked how much the bill was. No explanation. No apology. Just clearly all four of us over sight. The food was adequate but not for the price of the food. (Especially with no offer) Real shame as we really talked up the place to friends and family and were disappointed with what we experienced compared to previous visits. Thankfully the company we had made up for the issues. We sadly won’t be returning. Shame as there are very few places in nairn of a good standard left for evening meals.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!
