We st'ayed three nights at this hotel and ate breakfast and dinner 3 times. The food was largely tasty but portions very small and the dinners were expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful, but of course had no control over portions or preparation. I can appreciate trying to make-up for Covid loss of business, but I wish they hadn't tried to do it in one go. If you want value, this is not the place and the food just wasn't "pretty" enough to justify the price.

We ate here to mark the end of our Scottish holiday celebrating our joint 60th birthdays, having stayed here 10 years previously. This is fine dining and the food was very good as you would expect. There will always be a debate as to whether the food justifies the price in this sort of establishment, but it was a lovely way for us enjoy a special meal. Don't expect big portions or a budget menu. This is not that sort of experience.

This was an interesting experience. Before dinner you are asked to come into the lounge and have a pre dinner drink if you like (not compulsory). You are given the dinner menu and wine list. You are served a pre dinner amuse-bouche, then asked what you would like to eat for entree, main and desert. Also what wine you would like for each course. Once completing step 1 you can enter the restaurant proper. After being seated entree comes within seconds. Some time later your first wine arrives (in our case after we finished the entire). We had crab and I think the one crab supplied the whole restaurant I. E. It was a very small serve. There is a pleasant, but unnecessary palate cleanser served, and then main course. Again the wine comes some time after the meal is served. We both had sirloin. Not unpleasant but it required some chewing. Yet another palate cleanser - unnecessary. Desert was pleasant. The cheese plate was good but the cheeses had come straight out of the fridge. The Brie was like rubber. £55 each for the food then tea or coffee were extra. Only Australian or NewZealand wines by the glass and they weren’t representative of the high quality of wines available in those countries. They are trying too hard as they have excellent raw materials. In our opinion the process needs to be more relaxed and the meals less fancy.

Sehr empfehlenswert! Unbedingt vorher reservieren. Wir sind sehr zufrieden ins Bett gegangen!

The Iona Restaurant, a small dining room in the Toravaig House Hotel, is very nice and elegant with delicious food, excellent service, and a nice view but a little overpriced.  We had very nice bread rolls and two magnificent appetizers (scallops and roasted breast of grouse with a few vegetables and berries), followed by excellent venison steak for each of us which was perfectly accompanied by an Argentinian Malbec wine.  For dessert we shared a chocolate torte with white chocolate ice cream.

Had an evening meal here whilst staying in a local B&B. Menu is above average in cost but the food was excellent and the surroundings were really nice making it worth the additional cost. We had lamb and cod followed by apricot pudding and raspberry panna cota. Portions are not too large so you can eat several courses without feeling too full. This is important as the desserts are excellent and not to be missed.

Stayed in the Hotel, and ate 2 dinners and 1 breakfast. Shocked at some of the other reviews, if you don't want fine dining, don't go to a place that serves fine food. There are a lot of average, places to eat, this place isn't one of them. Food, presentation, were incredible. Only knock, is there aren't a huge selection, of entrees. Enough, but maybe 4. I had the Sirloin, done to perfection, as well as my wife. The best thing were the Haggis Bon Bons. Chefs attempt to get Haggis to the masses, even my wife ate one. The Haggis is excellent as well, as I had it for breakfast as well.

My favourite was the crab risotto. So many complaints about the price!!! If you want microwave fish chips and peas then go for a pub lunch. If you want freshly prepared food to die for, cooked by a top chef, and professional silver service waitresses who make you feel like a valued customer from the moment you step through the door to the time you leave, then please expect to pay a bit more. Highly recommended for that extra special evening out.

We stayed at Toravaig house for 2 nights, dined in the restaurant once, and breakfast twice. First, the place is decorated very elegantly, yet comfortable. The colors are very relaxing and enjoyable. The staff is equally warm, friendly, professional, and work together very well. I am lactose intolerant, so we always have to work around this issue and some places are willing to work with, and others not so much. I'm thrilled to say that the chef at Iona restaurant will go above and beyond to make your dining experience amazing! My starter, a baitfish, was delicious and required no changes. The next course however was a cream soup. I was all ready to skip this, and wasn't upset because hey, that's my life. But then I was concerned when they brought us both soup spoons. To my surprise, they brought my husband the cream soup, and the waitress explained to me that since I could not have the soup the chef made me a leek and vegetable broth. What? It was amazing, so flavorful that I want to copy it and make it at home, and I truly felt honored. The chef just proved his awesomeness with this gem of a broth, which wasn't even on the menu, and the steak that followed just solidified his skills. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Breakfast was equally delicious. In casual conversation Rose had suggested the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and then leave off the hollandaise sauce. It was so good, that I had it both mornings, and continued to recreate it whenever I could for the rest of our vacation. (Honestly, I'm still making this for breakfast at home). So, wonderful friendly place! You will be taken care of, in a bit fancy setting, yet so warm and friendly you will feel right at home. A unique blend that is worth your time for sure. Many thanks to Rose, Mary, the chef, the waitresses....when we make it back to Scotland we're coming for a stay!

The menu was varied, and made the best of locally-sourced ineredients. Both of us had special dietary requirements, notified in advance, and these were provided for.Waiting staff were very helpful, and the different courses were served at a good pace: not too fast, not too slow.Although portions were quite modest, there were a number of courses on the set menu, and so more than enough to eat.A recommendation for the future would be more choice for vegetarians, and perhaps a larger portion of side vegetables to accompany non-meat dishes.Overall, though, a good experience and breakfast was excellent too!

We ate at the Iona Restaurant at the beginning of Apr and loved it. The lounge / reception room feels cosy and sumptuous at the same time with an open fire, chaise longues, crisp decor and a piano - perfect for a aperitifs, pre dinner drinks and a look over the menu. The dining room is along the same lines. The food was awesome, I had the sea bass and it was probably the best Ive had - great quality and perfectly cooked. At £50 for evening meal, its not cheap but the quality of the food does the price justice and you get aperitifs, an entree and a pre-desert course too. Its decent value for money; the same standard in a big city would be much more. The whole place is nice and quiet, relaxed, certainly not pretentious and the staff were very friendly. A lovely night out.

We decided to splurge and have a fancy dinner in what looked like a lovely manor house not far from where we were staying on Skye. Toravaig House is indeed quite lovely and the rooms inside where the restaurant is located were very beautifully appointed. We had been told that the restaurant would fill up quickly as it was not too large and it was best to reserve -- which we did. When we arrived, we were shown into a lounge area -- very nicely decorated with a fireplace -- for a cocktail -- it seems that they do this a lot in Scotland, whether or not you want to have a drink before dinner or not. But so we did and it was enjoyable. But we were getting hungry and this was now way past our reservation time.I explained to the waiter that we were hungry and still it took a while to be seated. The rest of the service was just as poor. The food was nicely presented but with a supposedly famous chef, the food itself was not remarkable and in some cases actually disappointing. What was mostly of concern was that when I made the reservation, I specified that my husband had some food allergies -- and when the meal came -- it was as if I had talked to the wall.Hopefully the restaurant will try to fix all these issues as the place is really pretty --but you don't eat the scenery.

We booked a meal here to celebrate joint wedding anniversaries with our friends. We were looking forward to a relaxed, enjoyable evening. The young staff were a little over keen and we felt, lacking some training in terms of coordinating service and, at times, we felt a wee bit pestered. The food was lovely, although some of it could have been warmer and the wine could have been cooler. I, personally, did not like the furnishing style. The very standardised, 'boutique' look, doesn't seem to suit Skye. To my eye the furnishings, whilst expensive, were rather garish and unoriginal, the lovely old building deserved something more sympathetic and imaginative.

They also had no American Dry Ginger so she put Ginger Beer in the Gin without asking first if this was ok!! Not impressed, time to leave so we asked for the bill....£35...TWO GINS ONE TONIC ONE GINGER BEER and a glass of PROSECCO we were dumbfounded! We were sleeping at the Toravaig and dined there 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there. The first night we weren't really hungry so we had a 1 course dinner with a shared dessert. The fillet was juicy and very tasty, clearly high quality meat. Only down: it looked like the waiter wasn't that happy that we weren't having a full dinner. Second night we did have a 3 course dinner: chef's aperitif was very good, as were the scallops, venison was overcooked. The downside was the fish fillet in parma ham: nice try, i normally love these contrasts.. but the result was way too salty. Average wine, service was a bit better this time, the waitress was lovely, in discordance with other members of the hotel staff.Honestly i'm not sure if i'll visit again next time i'm on Skye Island.

We had a late lunch, called ahead and were greeted warmly and led to the cosy reception room. We were the only lunch patrons at 1:45. We had a pre-meal drink-a martini and a Talisker. Don't order the martini The rim is sugared (!) and my wife thought it was made with sweet vermouth. The appetizers were spectacular-a Puree of Celeriac soup with vanilla bean and hazelnuts for her, bacon wrapped scallops with a carrot/turmeric puree for me. Both perfect.. I got the recipe for the soup from the chef. We both had breast of local pheasant for our main course. Unfortunately it was a bit dry. We had dessert - I had Cranachan Mousse, which was too sweet for my taste, and my wife had fudge brownie, which was more fudge than brownie and too heavy for her. The desserts were well made, just not for us. We had a reasonably priced bottle of wine with the meal. When I got the bill it was 118.90 pounds (2 courses about 55 , dessert 16, drinks and wine 48). I handed the girl a credit card. Being a US card I had to sign, so maybe I noticed the total of 188.90 pounds more easily than if I punched in a PIN number, When I questioned the amount, I got a very weak "Oh, sorry" and a credit slip for 70 pounds. So was it an honest error, or an attempted scam? (At the end of the day, receipts are totalled and compared to cash and receipts. Cashiers have been known to pocket the overage.) If I were the cashier, I would have been mortified and very apologetic, but perhaps I would have been whether the error was honest or not, So just leave this as a caution for both this restaurant and all others-check your bill.

Not at all the level of service we would expect from a hotel of such high calibre. We noticed the fire was not on in the sitting room either on a fairly chilly and driech day which certainly did not give any sense of welcoming or warmth. The entire experience was quite literally , flawless. All the interfaces from the way our inquiry was initially handled and the manner we were met on the day, to the ambiance and presentation of the lounge and subsequently the dining room itself spoke of quiet and understated professionalism. The well crafted choice of menu and the impeccable quality of the ingredients combined seamlessly with the flair and skill with which they had all been meticulously prepared and presented, frankly leaving us all quite speechless. It truly was "Edible Art" ! We also thankfully chose to take the restaurant's choice of wines to accompany each course and agreed that they were all well up to the mark and sensitively priced. The experience was rounded off by being allowed to meet the remarkably young team of chefs and have an enjoyable interface and exchange with them . If you find yourself within a hundred miles of this quite exceptional hotel and restaurant it would be real shame if you were unable to partake of their hospitality and cuisine. We both had the Sunday Roast which was ok but we had to order extra gravy which is the 1st time I’ve ever been charged for extra gravy. The restaurant was very quiet only a couple of tables in and the service was ok

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!
