A great wee cafe tucked away on the road to Peebles!
The food is as good as home cooked, it's always fresh and never disappoints. We're regular visitors, and it's always the first place we think of when heading out.
The staff are amazing, providing great service and a welcoming atmosphere - any requests are met if they can, which is handy with a fussy toddler!
Can't recommend enough, come by and try it
The food we had was good and really well presented. Unfortunately the rather indifferent service let the restaurant down. The wine we chose from the list was not available and was substituted by a bottle from Tesco. There was no offer to let us taste the wine or pour it for us, it was just left on the table. We waited ages for our dessert order to be taken whilst the staff chatted at the bar and in end just got our bill and left. And please don't say 'no problem' every time someone orders from the menu. It shouldn't be a problem!
This restaurant is an absolute gem! We visited there for dinner and the food was amazing! Huge portions and authentic American tastes!
Though the food should be the star and it was we have to send special thanks to Cameron who went over and above the fantastic service we received. He actually took us back to our hotel in his own car as we couldn’t get a taxi. He offered straight away to take us to our hotel which was over and above anything I’ve ever received in a restaurant!
In a nutshell if you want a fantastic meal with fantastic staff then do yourself a favour and visit The Hitchen Post you won’t be disappointed!
Once again thanks to Cameron for a wonderful meal and a very much needed lift home!
Absolutely wonderful! The best onion bhaji's I've ever had and the mains were to die for. Very great service and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend and already looking forward to our next visit!
Located at the edge of Morebattle, almost across from the shop, a lovely hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Undergoing extensive renovations, opening May 17, it was open for hikers only. From what we could see, this is going to be quite the establishment when completed. Very friendly host, who cooked up a wonderful starter salad and then chicken massala with rice. Absolutely wonderful. A bakewell tart for desert. Breakfast was very good as well. All in all, a perfect, quiet place to stay.
Our regular haunt to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. 🍾🥂 Our wedding meal was here 14 years ago. Since then Casa Mia has been the place we go to celebrate those precious anniversary moments. 🍾🥂
We live in Essex and drive 7hrs + to Dumfries to celebrate an Anniversary lunch with the people we have become very fond of and drive back the same day to Essex.
We always receive such a warm welcome. The food is incredible, thanks to an amazing chef and team. It’s seriously worth 14hrs in a car. The bustle, warmth and dedication of all the staff surpasses anywhere else.
Our recommendations from today: Starters -we had the Deep Fried Brie and one of the specials; Goats Cheese Tarte, absolutely delicious.
Mains- Flat Iron Steak and Roast Chicken stuffed with Haggis, divine, total explosion of flavours!
Desert- finished off with their awesome Sticky Toffee Pudding.
It feels personal for us, these lovely people made our Wedding Day incredible years ago and every visit it feels like we are coming home to family. An anniversary we won’t forget, thank you so very much 🥰
We had our wedding at the mill forge on Saturday, and it was amazing from start to finish. The staff were very helpful and they couldn't do enough to make sure our day was perfect. All rooms were lovely, spacious, and clean. We had a meal in the restaurant the night before and a few drinks in the bar, which was lovely. Breakfast was very nice too. Myself and my husband can't wait to come back in the future 😌
Really nice restaurant with friendly staff, i am here with my elderly parents, the staff couldn't of been more helpful with my dad who struggles with his mobility, food was tasty, restaurant in general was really modern and very clean, toilets were immaculate, i couldn't of picked a better venue for Sunday dinner, a big thank you for a lovely visit.
As it’s a small popular place booking in advance is probably recommended. We were looking for a table on a Saturday night during the Spring Fling event in the region so left a message with the restaurant whilst traveling to Kirkcudbright. The owner returned the call and fortunately, thanks to a cancellation, was able to arrange our reservation for dinner the following night - a promising start.
On the evening of our visit the bistro was busy however there was still a relaxed ambiance about the place. The sole waitress taking orders and attending to the tables was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable about the menu and the only other member of staff appeared to be the owner/chef. He popped out and chatted with us towards the end of service to allow the waitress to get home as a few diners like us were finishing off drinks and still to receive their desserts and settle their bills. He seemed sociable and relaxed and clearly hadn’t adopted the Gordon Ramsay approach to the restaurant business.
Being a small place we were not surprised at the outset that the menu was limited to about half a dozen items per course including specials however it gave a decent choice in our view. We both ordered a “special” for starters - Tempura Battered Prawns (£7.95). As was the case throughout the evening, the dish was served up to the table in good time. Six king prawns each with a sweet chilli sauce with a salad garnish and balsamic. It was a tasty start.
For mains my wife ordered the Seabass, served with king prawns, a white wine & tomato sauce and fresh vegetables (£21.00). I had Duck a L’Orange (£21.95) which was another item from the specials board.
Neither of the mains dishes would be winning prizes for presentation however most importantly they both tasted good. The fish was nicely cooked and my wife enjoyed the other parts of the dish. The duck was also good albeit the chef was later surprised I’d left the fat on the plate. I queried if people normally ate the fat and he commented that they often do and that he rendered it to make it more appealing. Thankfully this was not an overly fatty duck breast in any case but I was quite happy to leave the small amount I did on the plate.
For dessert my wife had Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream and I had a Citrus Tart served with a small selection of fresh berries and cream. The puddings were £6.50 each and both enjoyable.
Overall we liked our experience at the bistro and with our three course meal for two costing just under £72 we thought it was reasonable value for money. We had added a bottle of NZ Yealands Sauvignon Blanc wine for £25 only just keeping the bill under £100.
A walk to the harbour to watch the sunset as we headed back to our accommodation rounded off the evening well.
Everything was good about this visit. A warm welcome on booking and arrival. A couple of excellent real ales and lovely food served quickly.
The inn was pretty busy for a Monday in May so booking would be recommended.
