We stayed here as part of a managed walking holiday, unfortunately there is little choice! The room we stopped in was a decent size and was clear enough. The building is old and therefore some aspects you can't escape but we were happy with the room. What is odd is that the hotel reception and bar are separate although they are in the same building - you can't get from one to the other without going outside! The welcoming we got when we first arrived wasn't great. The bar area is akin to a village hall rather than a quaint country pub! The food was very disappointing, Wetherspoons do better food! The veg was out of a frozen packet, and it went downjill from there! But as I said at the beginning there isn't much choice, and that's how they make you feel. If you don't like it go somewhere else, oh but you can't!!!

Quaint little village hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the city , Room with a good en-suite and had the odd banging and water flushing noise occasionally from other room/rooms , the bed was very comfortable , the room had what looked and felt like damp patches on the wall and were cold to touch No WIFI as no signal was available upstairs but it was available downstairs in the bar /restaurant area , the price for the room was a bit steep at £135 per night B&B especially as there was damp and no wifi in the room . I was told the wifi problem would be resolved soon ,

A caveat for this review. We passed by while walking on The St Cuthbert’s Way, when we were hungry and we were wanting to eat anything, though eat quickly. We were disappointed in the service, with the slow speed of service and the quality of what we ate. So, while we were not the ‘average’ lunchtime clientele, at the outset we did state our needs clearly. Aware from others walking who also stopped to eat at Templehall that they shared our experience. As a constructive suggestion, try and put together a menu that is for hikers/pilgrims. Keep the offer simple and readily and quickly available. On the Camino De Santiago in Spain the Pilgrim Menu is very, very common and readily available along the route. Also suggest that a rubber stamp so as to validate the walker’s credential be made and is available. Would potentially give great advertising and promotion for your establishment.

Amazing little place. From the moment we first spoke (in the summer!) through to Christmas Day the owner couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. Christmas Dinner was excellent but what made it was the service from Hazel and the rest of the fabulous staff. And the private dining experience… wow! The space is amazing and so homely. It was exactly what we needed - space for children to run around while not annoying others plus comfy chairs and dining area. They left lovely gifts for the children and a welcome drink for the adults was also included. The price was very reasonable for all that was offered. I can’t recommend the private dining space enough! From start to finish we loved it. Thank you x

Where do I start with this gorgeous hotel and its wonderful owner, Kerry. It is a rare place indeed. Set in beautiful village of MoreBattle with gorgeous views over the hills. Peaceful, and beautiful. We recommend you put in Morebattle, and postcode into SatNav or you will end up in a tiny place on main road going into Kelso!!! We phoned Kerry to tell her we were lost and she was so helpful - nothing too much. She asked if we had eaten and we said no. I can prepare a meal for you in your room if that would helpful!!! At time of being there lockdown was still in force and eating inside stopped at 8pm. So we put down our bags in our lovely room and tucked into Haddock & chips for me and a superb chicken dish for my husband. Really brilliant. We finally arrived and were showed to our room. It was gorgeous. Superkingsize bed and everything we were going to need for our 2 nite stay. We had a couple of walks out of the village into the beautiful countryside. Just a fab stay. Breakfast and dinner was simply fab. The quality of food, service and helpfulness was second to none. Thank you Kerry and your lovely staff. We couldn't have asked for more, although if we had I am sure you would have done your best to provide it.

I have often been here for a meal and have been satisfied with the food. This visit, however was very different. I ordered Venison steak. It looked lovely when it arrived but looks were deceptive. I could not cut it no matter how I tried. I tried different parts of the steak, but could not cut through. I told the waiter who took it back to the kitchen. It came back having been cut with a kitchen knife and was presented back to me in large chunks. By this time the plate was covered in blood and not any easier to cut. I called the waiter over again. This time the chef came out with a very belligerent stance and tone of voice. He told me the Venison should be pink. I agree but not bloody. He told me he had been using that Venison all week and no one had complained ! He never apologised but took the stance that I was wrong. He stood with his hand on his hip and was confrontational. My family were amazed at his stance. He then he, very reluctantly, offered me another meal. My family had to them wait until another meal was cooked. I do not complain often but was embarrassed and offended that I would be treated like this. My family stays just told the corner from this hotel and often eat there, when they have visitors, we and they will not be back

We visited this restaurant as it’s the only restaurant in town.I should add we also ate at the cobbles, fire & salt (twice) , the Schloss & the waggon. The restaurant must have 60 covers & the tables are crammed in. Unfortunately for us we were seated in the middle with everyone pushing past us . The food was average , very 1990s . My venison main course whilst nicely cooked was such a small portion I could see more plate than food & was definitely hungry at the end. My lyonnaise potato was the smallest portion that could be cut without it collapsing. Plain boiled veg. The sticky toffee pudding was the same, looked very pretty but tiny. If you want to treat yourself & you’re in tbe area save your money & go the Schloss or eat in one of the pubs.
