This cafe is now under new ownership and is called THE KNOWES. It is open from 9:30 until 4 (3 on a Sunday). It has been under new ownership since February this year and has had a lick of paint and a fresh menu - albeit broadly similar to the old one. Having visited the cafe several times on visits to Kelso over the last few years, it remains my favourite venue to get a hot drink and a simple meal. The premises are kept very clean and presentable.

Came for breakfast on our way home to Edinburgh. The location is beautiful with gorgeous views, a duck pond and chickens and peacocks roaming the pretty garden. The welcome was warm and friendly. We both had a full Scottish breakfast and it was delicious and plentiful! Definitely no need for lunch that day! The service was quick and so helpful. Thyme Bistro is now on our ‘must visit’ list whenever we’re near Aberfeldy or Loch Tay. Highly recommended.

Wedding party held here 25 years ago and returned for a celebration for my wife's 60th birthday. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard but keeping the impressive features of a Highland Baronial House. The quality of the food was excellent, great service by friendly staff. The location overlooking Loch Sheil and the monument comemorating the raising of the Standard in 1745 is unparalleled. An overnight stay for dinner, bed and breakfast iis not cheap but worth every penny.

We stumbled in without a reservation on a busy Sunday morning. The staff accommodated us without a fuss. Delicious, well-prepared, contemporary take on a traditional Scottish breakfast. Pastries to die for. Very good coffee. And the freshly baked whole grain bread with the poppy seed crust...oh my. Bright, cozy atmosphere inside. Attentive staff. If we lived in Edinburgh, it would be our go-to bakery and breakfast place.

It was such a pleasure to visit this cafe and a welcome contrast to the pre-paid accommodation ran by some racketeer at Ivy Cottage. We took one look at what was on offer and fled to next ferry to Mallaig. I went to school in Inverie in 1948- 49. when the priest had an affair with our teacher. He wnt on to become bishop of the Westrn Isles while she became an un-married mother
