Ka Pao in Glasgow City

We were here on Friday night for a friends birthday and the meal was absolutely amazing. We had the sharing menu with a few extras thrown in (the peppers and fried chicken) and everything that we got was super tasty and delicious. As always, never fails to hit the spot!

Four of us selected the sharing menu today and were not disappointed or left hungry. Fantastically tasty food - incredible vegetable based dishes of amazing corn ribs, hispi cabbage, brocolli and cucumber salad. Amazing fish and shellfish with beautiful Shetland mussels which I could have just drank the broth of, hake and incredible cod cheeks and not to forget the meat dishes with a beautiful beef green curry, pork and bone marrow sausage and a pork belly and watercress salad with ginger dressing. Service was fantastic, attentive and helpful. A wonderful lunch and definitely go back again

We arrived without a booking, and were kindly seated and given a 90 minute slot. The restaurant was busy with a pleasant decor. The restaurant had been recommended to me by a friend, and we thought we would give it a try. We were both unhappy with our food, but I didn't say anything until we had paid as we weren't looking for money off. I probably wouldn't have said anything but when the waitress asked how our food was, my partner said it was good, even though we had both been moaning about it. The chicken meat tasted cheap and the cod main was too spicy. I like spicy food but it just tasted overpowered by spice and not well balanced. I didn't try his plates of lamb mince and marrowbone sausage as I don't eat lamb or sausage. The staff were nice and attentive so I have no complaints with the staff or the decor/ambience which all was good. I am all about the food though, as I don't drink alcohol and it just wasn't good. I gave half my chicken dish to my partner and a lot of my cod dish to my partner. There was still food left on our plates and that usually doesn't happen when we eat out. The bill was really reasonable, only 59 for 2 cokes and 5 dishes plus a side of rice.

Superb restaurant. Food choice was plenty with great veggie options. Restaurant appeared to be completely full up so it must be a very popular spot. Drink options also good.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Every dish we ordered was delicious with each flavour being so tasty and different from the other. The Japanese fried chicken is a must have, as are the corn ribs. This is a menu that caters to everyone, meat eaters, vegetarian or vegan. The staff are excellent and so attentive and thorough about checking for allergies and making sure you don’t order the wrong thing. At Ka’Pao you’re in good hands!

Very disappointed. Quality of food has declined since it opened. It’s expensive for what you get. Too dark to read the menu. Service was good and staff lovely however.

Consistantly good in both the food, service and admosphere. This time around everything was perfect from arrival to service and the most tasty and fresh dishes

This is where I feel most relaxed when I eat out. Knowledgeable and extremely coeliac aware staff. Front of house and kitchen staff go out of their way to make changes that allow for the widest choice of gluten free dishes. Coeliacs should visit with confidence and the food is fantastic.

Great flavours in all dishes but....2 plates come- then 20 mins wait for others - which meant one of us ate whilst everyone else waited.. The cooking of the vegetables- there should be a bite on a carrot and cauliflower- but not virtually raw. The aubergine was inedible as it wasn't cooked. Nice staff but the food disappointing and I won't be back in a hurry.

Been to the Glasgow and Edin restaurants and had a great experience, kids included. But last night went back to the Glasgow restaurant and it was a very different experience. Had to send mussels back as they were all off, every one of them. Had the beef shin curry, fried chicken and haggis and chicken and all were poor, the curry had a few small pieces of beef and the haggis and chicken was very dry and salty. The fried chicken only contained a small amount of chicken each and they had been battered and fried to make them look bigger (so effectively eating a load of fried batter). This was our favourite place but it seems to be going downhill.

Nicely friendly greet upon arrival. Explained how the restaurant worked when ordering food. Food ordered was fabulous and really tasty. Busy restaurant even on a Wednesday night and we can see why. Our only slight gripe was the lighting just a little too ambient (dark) but otherwise couldn’t fault it. All I can ask is please open one in Shropshire.

This would be 4.5 stars, but I've docked 1 for a burning sensation... Excellent, imaginative fusion food selections, served in a vibrant, positively funky atmosphere. The sheer breadth of age range in diners, tells you these guys have nailed the attraction. Further, all the staff we encountered, were engaging and efficient...a real hospitality plus. So...about that burn. I expect some heat in fusion food. No bad thing. Taste, texture, temperature. However, if a dish contains fire brigade heat, a wee warning on the menu, would not go amiss. Step forward, Arbroath Smokie. That wonderful smoky fish flavour, followed by some complementary lime astringency, followed by...unexpected volcanic heat. I hate leaving good food, so I gently finished it, but my mouth was numb for 5 minutes thereafter. I get it. Some folks love that. Not me, though. I gather from our waitress, this dish is served that way. So perhaps just a wee heads up would keep diners informed. Other than that...utterly splendid...

This was our first visit following a recommendation from a friend and it was great. It’s a mix of all sorts of Asian cuisine so I had my doubts, but it works brilliantly. The lamb curry reminded me of a rich goat curry I had in America, and haven’t been able to get anywhere else, and was simply great. I really enjoyed the hispi cabbage in a cashew nut sauce and both of us were blown away by the cucumber and chilli salad - we want the recipe for that dressing! The lamb curry, the fish curry, the hispi cabbage and the cucumber salad (and 2 bowls of rice) was more than plenty for the two of us. We had a beer each and it was also astonishingly cheap, especially considering the quality of the food and the generosity of the portions. Despite it being a Tuesday night in October, the place was really busy without being loud (we were celebrating my wife’s 65th birthday, so we aren’t into ‘loud’ places!) with a mix of ages. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive, without being 'in your face’. They provided chilled table water and when it was running low, it was replaced without us even having to ask - that’s a mark of good staff - and all-in-all, it was a lovely evening.
