Lovely place to sit and have coffee but relatively quite pricey especially for a student environment.

Okay little place for a coffee. It doesn't appear to care must about recycling as there was so much waste from our coffees and cake. Was cheap in price.

Fun little cafe on University of Glasgow campus. Fabulous coffee, hot drinks, beers, wines and snacks. All fitting in a student budget!

Een prima gelegenheid voor ontbijt, lunch, of gewoon een kop koffie/thee tussendoor. Heel betaalbaar, heerlijke cappuccino. Enige nadeel: er stond een nogal fors airconditioning apparaat met gewoon een afvoerslang door een open raam (en dus niet heel effectief) en dit zorgde nogal voor wat achtergrondkabaal. Het was niet eens warm die dag. Maar verder prima locatie.

The Gilchrist is a cozy cafe that's perfect for a quick lunch or catching up with friends or colleagues. They offer a great selection of food and drinks at an affordable price. The only downside is that the space is limited and it can be tough to find a seat during peak hours.

Love the price, but this place is hardly ever empty. Still a very good place for a good break from your campus activity

Nice food and even nicer staff. Lots of space and there was a deal on with the food. Buy one sandwich/panini etc get one free!

Fine for a coffee and a sandwich .

The Gilchrist does what it does very well. The staff are friendly, the soup is a great deal and other cafeteria meals are available, and the coffee is great! It can be a bit crowded though, so expect to wait in line and share a table.

I was not ready for this kind of service when I first visited, but the cafe waited on me with 3 servers even wiping my mouth between bites of a very fine Huckleberry caviar, lobster and blue freshwater swimming crab sandwich. They ordered me a taxi home on completion of my meal and have bought me new socks every week since! Beat that Gregg's?

Basic cafe/restaurant atmosphere Hot chocolate is what I usually buy - not the authentic type... Just the common type of hot chocolate u get around... Would rate a 6.5/10 Service was Great

A student dine in or take away cafe in the main building. A large variety of food options on offer. Clean and welcoming, hot drinks were good.

During exam time, I would start my day with a coffee which I bought here each morning. Staff very pleasant coffee good. Lots of nice cakes on offer but I resisted😊

Excellent coffee and very reasonable prices. Wide range of preprepared sandwiches, heated sandwiches and soups. Fresh pastries and fresh fruit also available. Super space for meeting, studying or just relaxing.

An unexpected find - good quality fare at budget price.

Got charged twice on my credit cards for two large iced lattes and two fruit slices. All the staff did was ask me to check with my bank even though I showed them the real-time receipt send to my email from the POS provider and transaction in my bank APP. I would avoid this place at all costs. Update: After disputing this transaction with my bank, it appears that they have been able to track and refund this falsely charged money. However my personal ban to this cafe would not be lifted.

Excellent value lunch, had the Lentil soup, delicious. Staff are very friendly.

It's a wonderful cafe. Very spacious with a wide variety of hot anf cold beverages, snacks and sandwiches to gormandize.

Good coffee, especially the sugar free hazelnut cappuccino, and nice friendly stuff. Also top-notch paninis for a very modest price👌🏻

Good quality and value food and drink; nice surroundings and atmosphere. Staff excellent. Only fit University of Glasgow staff and post-grad students, however.

This is my go-to place to get food on campus. It's far less noisy than the Student's Union across the way, and has a nice relaxed vibe. Staff are friendly, and always make time to talk - and they seem quite happy in their job which is always nice to see. The usual mix of cold drinks, pre made sandwiches and a limited selection of hot food is available and all quite tasty. Space is quite limited, and the canteen portion seems to be lacking sanitation stations which is a bit concerning. Other than that, I quite enjoy having my lunch in the Gilchrist.

Great university atmosphere in this bar: good tea, animated chatter, large tables for work, ideally located in beautiful historical Glasgow university.

I was away for a while and was delighted to see how they've fixed up the placed so nicely. Now there's more space to dine as the classroom now doubles as an additional eating are. The ambience is great! Very cosy. Also, happy to see that patrons can now choose their sandwiches etc. This makes for greater efficiency on the part of the staff. Love, love, love the panini with vegetables and crisps. Perhaps more meal deals could be made available.

Great place for post grad students to meet and get a bite to eat and a coffee.

Gilchrist is where my classmates and I and almost everyone I know likes to spend their free time. The staff is very friendly and always greets students with a pleasant smile, somehow making the hectic student life a little better. I even appreciate the music they play during the evening, which is quite soulful. Moreover, the place grants easy access to all areas of the university. Food wise, I appreciate the offerings they have on their shelves. I usually go for a coffee or maybe a meal deal (which is £3.5).

Great staff, talkative and very good service. As a PhD it is nice to meet and spend time with students in my similar demographic as an upperclass student in research. It's nice to run into our professors when I'm taking lunch or snack.

Best place for coffee (and decent range of liquors if you feel like it) in the UofG premises. It's a shame the paninis are no longer what it used to be (which was so good)! Can get very crowded at times.

Small cafe within the Main building of University of Glasgow. Small size means not a large choice of hot food, however the panini's are very tasty. Cold sandwiches are also available. Also has a bar. Pretty good for it's size.

Great place for post grads and staff of the University of Glasgow. Service is quick and the coffee is decent. Student rates . Not a lot of seating space unfortunately, bit a good place to work/study/socialise if you do manage to grab a seat. They do a variety of snacks and sandwiches as well as soup quite often.

Fanstastic really nice cosy place for meetings and coffee break after lectures or any other time. Very good prices and very cheap ideal for students. You should definitely try the paninis which cost only £2.88 and also the orange chocolate cake as well !

I'm so glad the Gilchrist exists, it's one of my favorite things about Glasgow uni. The prices are really good and they have a good selection of food and drinks. They even serve alcohol. It's a great place for meeting or just studying alone and it has designated spaces for group work and a meeting room.

The coffee here is bigger and better than the one in the library or the Fraser building. Staff is friendly and their soups are alright. If you're lucky and snatch a space by the group study tables in the back of the cafe, you'll get a great study space. What I like about it the most are the long opening times.
