Shabby entrance belies the warm and plush interior where the welcome is warm and hospitality generous. Members only.

Went here with a friend and had some nice whiskies. Place is very nice n swanky. Its members only. Did sit in a little closed section and seating could have been better. Did ask the waiter what Malt of the Month was. To be greeted with I really should know that. As my friend said Yeah well there is only 12 of them..lol

One of the best bars... I suppose I have to add, in Glasgow, and that it's a member's bar... But it still is one of the best bars. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, great food, AMAZING whisky. And good beer thanks to West Brewery too. Fab times. Thanks to the team.

Had a great tasting experience with Lamb curry today and it was excellent.

Place to go to experience true whisky, if not a member,ask for a day membership, all staff are true experts, just ask.

Brilliant visit this evening - dinner and ambiance were first rate but it was the patient and attentive service we got from Tim that was the true highlight of the evening. He took time to discuss our preferences in whisky and help guide us towards the right drams a Glen Garioch 19yo and a Blair Athol 15yo - these went down a treat and were reasonably priced. Looking forward to a return visit the next time we're in Glasgow.

They should have a day pass. £85 to get in if you're a visitor to town is dumb, particularly when it's a Saturday night and the place is deserted. If it was £30 and you got something to drink, we'd probably have done it and spent twice that.

An oasis in the middle of Glasgow. If you didn't know where it was you'd walk straight past. A very cosy yet spacious bar / restaurant with really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Either pick a whisky from the magazines on the table, or tell the staff what your taste is and see what is delivered, you won't be disappointed! Hundreds of different whiskies to choose from. Had dinner there too and the food was spectacular. Started with the smoked salmon mousse and whisky smoked salmon slices. Easily the best smoked salmon I've had in years. The ox cheek bourguignon was spectacular. Unbelievably tender meet, creamy mash potato and perfectly balanced flavours.

Wonderful bar with a lovely atmosphere. Staff are always very welcoming and knowledgeable on whisky - staff members Tim and Chris gave us some great recommendations. We also saw them deal very well with a group of 12 people last night who didn’t have enough memberships and then became very rude and aggressive with the staff. A lot of bad reviews seem to be because guests turn up without memberships and expect to be allowed in with no questions asked - it is called a “members bar” surely it’s pretty obvious that you need a membership! Takes a few seconds to check this on the website. Would highly recommend.

Awful. Staff are pretentious and rude and not a reflection of Glasgow at all. I would be embarrassed if foreign visitors think this a true representation of Glasgow or Scotland as a whole. Absolutely negative experience on the 3 separate times I have visited. I believe in 2nd chances but sorry 3 strikes and you're out. I will not be renewing my membership and will never set foot in any of their premises again!!!

My first ever night in Glasgow I have reserved a table for dinner through the app provided in Google. During the reservation process, When asked, I had the option to state I am not a member and the app confirmed my booking. Only when I have arrived at the SMES I was told that I MUST first pay the annual membership fee to enter. They should be clear about this both in their site and their booking platform. So my bad vote is for not providing their services.

The best SMWS location bar none! Worth every penny of the membership cost if you don't already have one. Whisky, bourbon, Armañac, cognac, rum, etc. Barrel proof and exceptional service. A must experience!

The SMWS bar … what else is there to say? Many unique choices by the dram, as well as other spirits and food if you are so inclined. I’ll take my cold barley soup thank you!

Fantastic little gem. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Was quite shocked at the experience as I was told this location was the best. Only had one pour as my server barely came by to check on me, didn't seem knowledgeable, or chat about recommendations. Was quite attentive to the gentleman's table next to me though. Been a member for over 3 years so was sad this was my first experience here.

Came here for the first time because my friend had a voucher for a whisky tasting. A couple of wee hitches on our side but we're quickly sorted by the staff! Amazing team there, friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable. I've had a membership for a wee while but it was the first time actually going, regretting not going sooner now! Will definitely be back. The decor is amazing and the place clean and tidy. When I think about a great place to drink whisky, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Glasgow ticks all the boxes. Might have to get along to the Edinburgh ones and see how they match up.

Visited the Bath Street venue for the first time on Tuesday - a beautiful yet casual members bar. Service was superb. Tim led our tasting and was brilliant - a credit to your organisation with some great suggestions of drams to enjoy.

If you love whisky this members only club is a must! I went as a members guest and it is the bougiest place I have ever been. The whisky is phenomenal, the snacks are tasty and the vibe is "very fancy old man in his study" but in the best way. Prices range from pretty standard bar prices to insane once in a life time. I drank middle of the range drams which were £13 each

Fantastic place to chill and enjoy a few of the best drams of your life. I'm not sure it's open to the public or if it's members only, but if you can it's well worth a visit. There is no better place to sample a fine selection of the finest whiskies.

Absolute disgrace of a place pre booked a meal and flight tastings for my partners birthday, arrived and was given the tiniest table ever to eat at ,It resembled a lamp table, as i have an essential tremor i need a proper dining table was told basically that everyone books and that was all that was available unbelievably appalling attitude by the bar manager, now trailing town for somewhere to celebrate

This is such an amazing hideout in the middle of Glasgow. The Staff, Alan, Ellie, Reece, Duncan and company are very welcoming and know their craft. This is not a pub per se (as you have to be a member), however if what you want is an amazing place to have a deep conversation on a payday friday... this is your place!

My first time at smws and it didn't disappoint. We were looked after by the most fantastic member of staff called Reyce. His knowledge was outstanding and he certainly is a credit to the company. Great day thank you.

Amazing place to learn about whisky. The bartenders are great and knowledgeable.

Did not sample the whisky but the wine & snacks were delicious (croquettes sausage rolls). Beautiful ambience. Lovely little separate booths

Loved this location. By far the best of the 3. Ambiance was perfect. Service was spot on. Super friendly and helpful. Enjoyed every moment there.

Superb first experience at SMWS BATH Street after joining the society. Attentive and friendly staff, all the whiskies we tried were interesting, also enjoyed a sharing platter and bought a bottle at the end of the night. Will definitely be back and hoping to try some of the other branches soon!

The only place to go for lovers a Malt Whisky. You have to be a member of the society but it's an investment worth making. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly, happy to recommend or just take your taste buds on a journey

Cosy and quiet on a Saturday night in Glasgow. Outside on the streets it's like a Hieronymous Bosch painting, inside the SMWS it's an oasis of whisky.

Nice basement sympathetically converted to its present use. Superb staff willing to impart their knowledge. Also serves a limited menue of well cooked food at a reasonable price. (Un)fortunately only for members.

Very nice place with an air of sophistication, I was invited along as a guest, the staff are very friendly and attentive and are really good when it comes to describing and suggesting different whiskies to try. I also really enjoyed the little booklet describing the different selections which contain some amusing names and descriptions, well with a visit.

Had lunch with a member of the society and had a great time. Food was excellent and the choice of whiskies simply unbelievable. Well worth a visit.

Love the SMWS and the selection is mind blowing. Take time to ponder and ask the staff for help.

City centre location, a fantastic range of whisky and friendly, knowledgeable staff to guide you to the right spirit. What more could you want? Very much worth the membership fee even just for the access to the city locations. Also serves well-prepared staples like haggis, neeps and tatties...but you'll want to stay for the cozyness of it all and of course a top class dram.

SMWS is a great place in the city centre to go for a quiet drink or meal. As their name suggests they specialise in whisky but don't worry about inviting friends who are not into whisky as they offer other drinks. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable if you are interested in tasting different whiskies.

Well was a surprise birthday present from my wife .I didn't have a clue as what to expect arrived and were met at the door with a great welcome taken through to a small snug area where the girl who was looking after us explained what the place was all about asked what was my favourite whiskey and made a few suggestions.she certainly knew her stuff first one was absolutely stunning as were the rest of her selection ,we decided to get some lunch food was delicious (whiskey was better)can honestly say best two and a half hours I've had in a long time so much so I became a member so looking forward to many more visits.i would suggest if you like peace and quiet to enjoy a dram or two look it up .

Great wee place to get in out of the weather or the hustle and bustle. Have a dram or something to eat and chill in the relaxed surroundings. Linzie and Anthony are very knowledgeable and will put you at ease. Excellent. Private club so you do have to join although they do have a public day on a Tuesday.

Fantastic to have the Members' Rooms open in Glasgow. The SMWS have made the most of the space available and the venue has the sort of understated, refined atmosphere familiar from the Edinburgh venues. The staff are excellent - highly knowledgeable and friendly. We had a fine selection of drams and were impressed by all of them.

It's a great venue, but not quite to the same level of knowledge and service as its Edinburgh counterparts. At least on my single visit, anyway.

First visit, lots of seating, some excellent advice from the staff there and of course amazing whisky to drink. The food menu looks tasty so we'll be back tomorrow night!
