La Lanterna in Glasgow City

Lovely cozy restaurant. My food was fantastic. Probably one of the best Italian dishes I've had. Definitely worth a visit.

La Lanterna is a lovely little restaurant in one of the roughest streets in Glasgow. Don't let that put you off, however! It is an absolute gem of a restaurant, the food is exceptional and the service is second to none. We ordered the pre-theatre and they did not let us down portion-wise. The lighting could be a little dimmer to create a better ambiance but that's neither here nor there. Up there with the best.

Nice little basement spot that was recommended by the hotel staff. Food was very good and the atmosphere was nice also.

The flavours are scrumptious, and the atmosphere brings back memories of our holidays to Italy. Five stars, La Lanterna, now book me up!

Gorgeous restaurant, food is INCREDIBLE and service is fabulous. I had the monkfish and prawn risotto + tiramisu for dessert and I cannot recommend enough!

Had a great meal here. The mussels were fantastic! Unfortunately, the monkfish in parma ham was a bit dry. Fantastic cheese board and great service. Will be back!

Went on a Tuesday evening and couldn't believe how busy it was. Good atmosphere, food and service. Would certainly go back if I am ever in Glasgow again.

everything was good other than the food poisoning, i ordered the rack of lamb with broccoli and got the creme brûlée for dessert, the broccoli was cold and lacked any seasoning, I believe the creme brûlée was undercooked as it was slightly liquid like, but the staff were nice and the restaurant looked nice, I hope this was a one time occurrence and not common.

Went for supper tonight. Had calamari Appetizer, Crab ravioli and linguine with smoked salmon & Prawns in cream sauce. Had the 4 mini dessert platter to finish. Absolutely amazing place

We went to dinner at La Lanterna in Glasgow, an Italian restaurant, with a very pleasant atmosphere, good service, polite people, but the dishes lacked flavor, you know that expectation of flavor? Well, it was missing. Dishes were well presented but very poor in seasoning, without any charm, we left there feeling frustrated that we had eaten delicious food, from the starters to the main courses, they could have been better prepared and tastier. We arrived without a reservation, we were very well attended to, we waited approximately 30 minutes, unfortunately we were not impressed. $$$

Hadn't been here for years, but came tonight for my anniversary and the food was superb.

Excellent seafood and pasta. Attentive service. Downstairs seating with restricted access. Sausage was dry and had no flavor.

A group of us visited the restaurant for lunch after seeing their lunch 2 course menu online. The menu given in the restaurant was quite different to the one published on the website. Many items are removed while a few had ingredients altered to cheaper alternatives. Was surprised to see such tactic by a restaurant rated this highly. Even let a staff know about this who shrugged it off without saying anything. While the food and service was good but just don't rely on the lunch menu they have on the website.

I’ve ordered with la lanterna a lot of times and dined in a few times as well. Their food is always outstanding and they have amazing gluten free and vegetarian options as I have a very limited diet. Today I ordered for my mums birthday as she is disabled she can’t get into the restaurant anymore and had previously gone for her birthday before her physical health declined and I left a note saying it was her birthday. The incredible team over at la lanterna left us this lovely wee note and sent over a dessert for my mum to enjoy. They’ve completely made her birthday and made her feel so special.

This is one of the top meals ever on my list. Fantastic place with all the best Italian foods you can get in Glasgow. Reservations are a must and the food, service And Atmosphere were great.

The food, atmosphere, and service were excellent. But the prices are about 50% more than shown on the web. It’s a nice restaurant and the prices are fair, just higher.

All the food was of a high standard and the service was attentive. They introduced a bottle of very delicious white wine. The manager was very talkative and treated us to dessert💗. The only thing was that it was too hot and the location was close to the kitchen. It was too hot to dine while there was no air conditioning in summer.☀️☀️ We strongly requested a fan.🥵

Second ever visit to La Laterna, the first being about 26 years ago! Both were memorable for the food, the buzz and the attentive service which I'm guessing is the secret sauce that means the restaurant is still busy, thriving and firmly on the "Glasgow dining institutions" list. Four lovely plates of pasta were enjoyed alongside tasty accompaniments, setting us up perfectly for a night at the Hydro. Will definitely be back and certainly sooner than 2050 this time 😉

Food was tasty although we could tell the chicken wasn't boiled today. Service was reasonably speedy but it would be nice to get napkins with the cutlery. No baby changing area in the bathrooms. Atmosphere is lovely and the staff very friendly and polite.

My partner and I visited here after seeing rave reviews online. For starters, we shared a "Fritura Mista" which is a mix of calamari, king prawns, white bait, and courgette served with a garlic mayo dip. It was flawless. Quality seafood, seasoned perfectly and so fresh. For our mains, I had crab ravioli in a lobster claw meat sauce. My partner had a seafood risotto. Again, the seafood in both were of a very high standard, fresh, and both were seasoned to perfection. For dessert, I had "passione cioccolato" - an award winning New York style chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, which was fantastic. Overall, we couldn't have been much more impressed with the experience. Staff were friendly and attentive, the service was prompt, and the food was outstanding. It's the best Italian restaurant we've been to and we will definitely be back

Loved it. Great Italian restaurant, lovely food, good service. Always busy, so book a table. Wednesday night at 8pm and people are queueing to get in. Highly Recommended

The restaurant is really nice when entering but we were seated at a table for two which felt very small. I ordered the scallops from the specials menu which when they arrived were the size of maltesers, I’ve never seen such small scallops. I then had the risotto which when it came the waitress asked would I like some Parmesan and proceed to dump a tablespoon full on top of my risotto. I found the staff to be surly and felt they were looking down their nose at us and except for a girl with a blond ponytail not once did anyone smile at us or ask if our meal was nice. We were clean and had our best clothes on not like we were tramps and stinking 🤷‍♀️ The service was quick and we didn’t have to wait long for our food, my husband said his steak was good but that’s about it. The establishment lacked finesse, the toilets were dirty and after looking forward to visiting we didn’t even stick around for a coffee and cognac after our meal

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with a real cozy feel. Service was outstanding, staff happy to help with recommendations and a real friendly manner. I went for the roast leg of lamb and this was one of the nicest meals I have ever had, followed by the tiramisu, amazing!! Great cocktails, highly recommend the hendricks fizz!!

I’ve been here many times before; usually the food is wonderful! However this time, the food was sub-par. The bolognese was freezing cold, I sent it back, and the waitress was so helpful, and they “made a new one…” the dish they gave me back was equally as cold. My friends dish (the chefs steak special) was rubbery and also quite cold. This is usually a lovely restaurant, but perhaps the business took a bit of a toll on them this evening. Drinks and service were lovely as always!

Superb steak. Loved the zabaione. But would have loved it even more with more fresh berries.

Had lunch x 13 for a special Family Birthday in the private dining room downstairs. Food was great, room was lovely, staff could not have been nicer and service was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend for a special occasion and will definitely return. Easy parking at Kelvinbridge Station too if needed.

Can’t believe I haven’t been to this restaurant before having lived in Glasgow all my life. Worth the wait though, very authentic Italian offering great food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We had the lunch menu which was excellent, best arincini starter I have ever had. Meal was great value. Treated ourselves to a bottle of wine, super choices available, we went for Sangiovese which was delicious and not over priced Can’t wait to return, now recommending to all our friends and hope invites to come with them

This is a marvellous Italian restaurant in the basement of the building. It gets very busy as the day goes on but we managed to eat early and avoid the rush. Pretty authentic Italian fare with pleasant, if not always the quickest, service. Price is not cheap but it is competitive. We would not hesitate to recommend it to any visitor to Glasgow.

For years my wife had wanted to come here and we dropped in for a pre theatre dinner. Great service from Franco & Juliano and atmosphere. Couldn’t fault the dinner or the value. Another visit required

A really good Italian restaurant in Glasgow centre. The entrance and door buzzer access doesn't fill you with confidence, but once inside the food and service speak for themselves.

Service was excellent staff are excellent nothing is too much for them. This is the first visit this year and notice that the set menus have changed now for this year. Always found these really good value for money in the past. Will be having to stick now to the a La carte menu if visiting again as nothing on the main set menu is to my liking any more. Had a lovely meal when we visited.

Went for a valentine's night dinner, and despite the high praises I have heard about this restaurant, the experience was pretty lackluster. The dinner service was restricted to their set menu for Valentine's day and one could opt for a 2 course meal for 27.50 each or 3 course for 35 each. My partner ordered a mains and a dessert sharing platter, and I went for a prawn starter and mains. The menu did not state that if you share the dessert platter it will cost extra and after we were reassured by the service staff that it wont be charged separately, when it came down to the billing time, there was an extra 7.5 quid added on top of our 27.50 each. There was also an added service charge, automatically added on top of that, both seems disingenuous to me. I don't mind paying service fee and having worked in the hospitality industry I will gladly hand tips to servers, but this was not acceptable. The extra charge for sharing dessert platter makes no sense, 'cos essentially my partner paid 35 quid for a bowl of pasta and 4 shot glasses worth of desserts. We were told that the server did not know and she explained it to us incorrectly that it would be included in the price, and only after asking for clarification was one given to us. She also quickly went on to say that she would be happy to take off the service fee, as if doing us a favor while admitting to the fact that she gave us misinformation while taking the order. The whole situation left a bitter after taste, although the main course pasta was pretty good. The dessert platter portion wise was very disappointing especially considering the extra charge. Food was decent, I liked my risotto but the whole billing experience did not leave me with a positive impression of the place.

Food was nice and lovely, little small restaurant though with not much space to move around and tables were quite small. They serve no pizza though and my partner was quite disappointed by that, which I thought was strange because usually Italian restaurants serve pizza. To enter you have to buzz to get in and go downstairs and it’s not for tall people haha

Wonderful, at first unassuming little basement restaurant very close to the central station. Many popular regional Italian dishes. Very fancy atmosphere with beautiful reproductions of famous paintings. Absolutely professional staff.

Set up a dinner date with my wife here. Thankfully the staffs are cooperative and their foods served were all delicious!
