My wife and i enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at the Abbey Cottage today. The afternoon tea consisted of freshly made sandwiches of your choice , fruit or plain scone with clotted cream and jam and a choice of different sponge cakes along with a pot of tea. It may be advisable to book the afternoon tea in advance as we did. The Abbey Cottage has all the best attributes of a traditional tea room The staff were welcoming , conversational and friendly. The premises were very clean. The food itself was a treat. There is a convenient car park behind the cottage which also serves as the car park for the ruin of Sweetheart Abbey which is next to the cottage. In addition to the tearoom the cottage also has a shop selling locally produced goods. The Abbey cottage is very much worth visiting if you are in the area.

Went for lunch with two work colleagues, I have used the tearoom regularly over the last 10 years, but this will be the last. For drinks two of us ordered coke, one full and one diet ,which the waitress said came in bottles. They were served in a glass and both were flat, after telling the waitress she said the coke came from large bottles from the fridge. The communal bottles must have been opened the day before or even earlier, the coke which she exchanged them for just tasted of cheap cola and not Coke. My advice would be to serve cans of coke or small glass bottles, when you advertise Coke it should be Coke.I also had to pay extra for wilted salad for my panini.

This award winning establishment has been run by the owners for 42 years and remains very popular in its prime position right next to the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey. We called in for a light lunch and were impressed by the range and choice of freshly made food. We chose a smoked bacon and Brie panini and a chicken salad bowl with spicy mango dressing. Both were spanking fresh and neatly presented. Good quality ingredients and very pleasant service. The choice of scones, cakes and tray bakes was outstanding. Good quality coffee too made an excellent finish. Very clean and well presented throughout. Well done, we much enjoyed it.

We were staying in the area and wanted an afternoon tea, I sent a message via Facebook but didn't get a reply regarding booking a table so we popped in the day before. We arrived for our afternoon tea to find the cafe half full. We were given the choice of sandwich, fruit or plain scone and choice of sponge cake. We actually liked this as we got everything we liked. My cheese and onion sandwich tasted delicious. The scone was gorgeous and I ended up taking my coffee cake home. All very reasonably priced and nice atmosphere, will definitely visit again

Dog friendly establishment which is a positive. This is only in one side of the premises though which in high season I would imagine it's impossible to get sat inside. The food served was ok. The toastie doesn't come with anything on the side, it's not buttered prior to grilling which left it tasting bland. Due to the filling chosen, it was also soggy. From a cost comparison perspective of other menu items, that didn't seem value for money against other dishes and I wish I'd tried something else instead. Our order was mixed up but rectified later on which was welcomed. In the shop side, it would have been nice to be able to see some of the cakes that were on offer as they sounded nice on the menu. It would have been nice to be tempted to take something away with me for later!

This little tearooms is worth a visit, we went whilst on holiday in the area and have been before but this time it was very busy, but we were greeted warmly and the staff soon found us a clear table and served us very quickly, they even apologised for us waiting but we didn’t have to wait and considering they had just had a large group of cyclists in they made us feel welcome. The coffee was lovely too.

We had lunch here during a visit to see Sweetheart Abbey. We sat in the garden and enjoyed the wonderful view of the Abbey, and watched the Swallows flitting about on a glorious sunny afternoon. The staff were so welcoming and lovely, and the food was delicious. Our dogs were also made very welcome too. It was a shame the Abbey was partially closed, but the lunch made our visit worthwhile!

Great dog friendly restaurant beside Sweetheart Abbey. Great views across to the abbey. Had excellent panini's for lunch. There are three areas - a cafe at the front in the shop, a restaurant area and an outside dining area. Dogs are welcome in the shop and the outside areas. Very friendly and helpful staff - the rain came on as we were sitting outside and they quickly moved all our food an d drinks to an inside table.

We were staying at a holiday cottage in this lovely village, decided to call in the tea room for a light lunch and was not disappointed. I had the soup, cauliflower and blue cheese followed by panini filled with Haggis made locally it was alright but if I had panini again it wouldn’t be Haggis, I liked it but not in a panini. My wife had the Nachos and chilli beef, she enjoyed it. Ginger beer was very good, staff were pleasant, we would definitely go back

Set in a beautiful location at the entrance to the abbey. We sat in the well tended garden on a nice sunny day but sadly my positives end there. The service was poor even though the cafe was only ½ full. The couple on an adjacent table waited over 30 mins for coffee and cake. We were quite excited to order Haggis nachos but at £7.95 for a tiny portion they were grossly overpriced for the volume. What a pity this place offers so much potential. I hope I caught them on a off day

Now that doesn’t sound like much but I have had so many undercooked, shrivelled and tasteless baked potatoes in my time! The portion was very generous with a lovely fresh side salad. The topping was plentiful and they allowed me to mix and match. Also, individual butter in a wee dish! Yes, please! So delicious. Heaven! Everyone agreed that their meal was delicious. Good value as well. My final note is that the staff team take the Covid guidelines seriously. All tables, chairs (legs and all!), menus and even table numbers were thoroughly cleaned between guests. We dropped in to this cafe after a visit to the adjacent Sweetheart Abbey. We found the old-fashioned tea room ambience quite cosy and somehow appropriate with the historic ruins next door. The service was initially rather slow but once served the waitress did a fine job and the coffees and cakes were very good.

Popped in after visiting the Abbey opposite about 30 mins before closing time. Just one other customer there. Service was ok, not unfriendly but lacking warmth. Small gift shop selling some lovely items which I perused whilst the drink was made. Both the coffee and cake were nice.

We arrived late on Sunday afternoon having driven around the area sightseeing & stopped off for light refreshments, fortunately a larger table was available as there were 5 of us & we were accommodated quickly with menus swiftly provided.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat a late lunch. We had not been to Abbet Cotrage for some time. We ordered a couple of baked potatoes and these were served very quickly one with cheese and the other with chilli both served with a beautiful side salad with superb dressing. With coffee I had a piece of beautiful chocolate cake. Highly recommend will call again.

We've been visiting this tea room for many years and we're never disappointed. On a four day visit we managed two trips to Abbey Tea Rooms. My husband loves the haggis panini. The award winning haggis was equally good in the jacket potato I had. On our second trip it was for sweet potato and red pepper soup which was delicious together with a toastie. Thank you to everyone in the tea rooms for good food at reasonable prices. We will be back.

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts. Highly recommended.

Their food's always great, the service is awesome even when it's crazy busy, and they keep changing the menu but still have all the usual stuff for those who aren't feeling adventurous.

This is without a doubt the best place for lunch in Dumfries. The food just gets better and better. We ordered a selection of 4 dishes none of which disappointed 🥰
